Game Your Character Traits CK3 Style!

So I've recently bought Crusader Kings 3 and am enjoying it quite a lot.

I was curious how people would fare today.

How they work in game is that you get:

• 3 personality traits, none of which can be opposite of another one.
• An education trait reflecting their upbringing and skills before adulthood.
• Potentially physical and congenital traits depending on your character.
• Lifestyle traits for working towards a specific goal for ~10-15 years to master that situation.
• Others if they suit.

So I'll start with Valiens Nantaris:

He is:

So overall someone who specialises in battle and fighting...not so good with the organisation or diplomacy!

I didn't see it reasonable that she had mastered a lifestyle goal yet. However, with the amount of time she's been in the field, I thought she had earned some Commander traits. The "holy"-type traits would be from the perspective of the Sith and the Ember of Vahl, building on the zealot personality trait and her theological education.

In summary, Joycelyn is a woman with much martial prowess and deep faith, but and a poor diplomat, disinterested in wealth and personal schemes.

 

[AMCO]

Always a fan of anything Crusader Kings related, so here's Adrian:

• Personality: Gregarious, Arrogant, and Cynical. ('nuff said, though an argument could be made for Gluttonous and Vengeful.)
• Education: Charismatic Negotiator (Considered something Learning-related, but this is more in line with his actual upbringing.)
• Congenital: Beautiful, Robust... and Sterile. (NB! They are all because of tampering with his own body. A shame that isn't something you can do in Crusader Kings III... yet. Who knows, given the Secret Societies DLC in II.)
• Physical: Shrewd. Leaned back and forth between Intelligent and this, but landed on this one.
• Lifestyle: I don't think he's been at it long enough, but he's on his way towards Scholar.
• Levelled Traits: Famous Reveler - he's been known to travel to enemy territory to attend parties, for crying out loud.
• Commander Traits: Cautious Leader... is what he would be if he had any military competence whatsoever. He doesn't.
• Criminal Traits: Oh boy. Adulterer, Fornicator, and Witch, quite possibly Deviant and Sodomite too. Yeaaaah, the Pope wouldn't approve.
• Coping Mechanisms: Rakish and quite possibly Profligate. What, he's been under a lot of stress lately!

Bonus Round: He arguably has the "Disinherited" trait, but it's more of a mutual agreement with the head of the noble house he belongs to to keep ties with Sith Empire within the plausibly deniable in case it's ever toppled by its numerous enemies.

CK is just powerful, I've started using CK traits for my characters' personalities:

Oh, I love this! For Sakadi I'd say:

Personality: Calm, Fickle and Chaste
Educational: This one's difficult... I'd say Astute Intellectual, but Adequate Bargainer could also be applicable.
Congenital: Beautiful, Quick, maybe Delicate?
Physical: Shrewd.
Lifestyle: Theologian, because of her blind faith in the Force.
Levelled: Wise Woman
Commander: Reckless without a doubt.
Criminal: Fornicator, in the dim and distant past.
Coping mechanisms: Reclusive
Health: Maimed, her vocal cords are permanently damaged.

 

[Inanna Harth]

I'd like to do this with all my characters (or most - I don't think Nimdok would work, seeing as he's two very different people depending on the situation), but let's start with Inanna Hoole.

• Personality: Stubborn, Compassionate, Trusting (Also considered Generous and Just, but those are more background traits.)
• Education: Conscientious Scribe
• Congenital: Beautiful (when she wants to be) and relatively Slow, as those who have written with her have no doubt noticed...
• Physical: Scarred (But all the scars are on the inside, a la "Veteran of the Psychic Wars".)
• Lifestyle: Seductress? (Could be Architect or Gallant as well. She usually fails at everything she tries to do. wink)
• Leveled Traits: Again, tough... but I'd go with Aspiring Blademaster, I suppose. If she had her way and was stronger in the Force, it'd be Wise Woman.
• Commander Traits: Reaver, which may surprised those who know her.
• Criminal Traits: Fornicator; while I'd say this trait doesn't necessarily mean much to SW society at large, it does mean something to Inanna herself, and she doesn't consider it a good thing or an excusable vice.
• Coping Mechanisms: Contrite, Drunkard (formerly), Improvident, Rakish, Journaller

 

[Salamander]

Arrius Messala is a newer character of mine, so he's more easy to classify.

• Personality: Ambitious, Patient, Deceitful (Also considered Temperate, Just, Diligent, Cynical, and Vengeful.)
• Education: Intricate Webweaver
• Congenital: Hunchback, Sterile, Hideous
• Physical: Disfigured
• Lifestyle: Schemer
• Leveled Traits: Physician (Could also be Mystic, idk.)
• Commander Traits: Cautious Leader - combat isn't really his forte and he will avoid any direct confrontation if possible.
• Criminal Traits: Witch... and possibly, secretly, a bit of a Deviant.
• Coping Mechanisms: Flagellant (I'm deriving this from his habit of deliberately depriving himself of the Force whenever he's at home), Reclusive

 

[Val Drutin]

Ah, Val Drutin! One of my first characters, and quite difficult to pinpoint at times.

• Personality: Chaste, Content, Wrathful (Also considered Brave, Lazy, Stubborn, Forgiving, and Honest.)
• Education: Formidable Banneret
• Congenital: Lunatic, Possessed, Herculean
• Physical: Strong
• Lifestyle: Gallant, Celibate
• Leveled Traits: Blademaster!
• Commander Traits: Reckless
• Criminal Traits: Kinslayer

For Kaida Taldir.

Kaida is just and fair and without mercy. The law is an iron bar society bends to, not the other way round.

• Strong (for an Eldorai, she's not superhuman, but tough)

• Personality: Brave, Stubborn, Greedy (also Honest, Arrogant, and Zealous.)
• Education: His education was that of a street thief, so perhaps he is somewhere between a Flamboyant Trickster and a Thrifty Clerk?
• Congenital: Spindly, Hale
• Physical: Shrewd
• Lifestyle: Gallant
• Leveled Traits: Novice Hunter
• Commander Traits: Holy Warrior, Unyielding Defender, Flexible Leader
• Criminal Traits: Believe it or not, none of the traits listed in this category apply to him. If there was one for stealing, that's his chief vice.
• Coping Mechanisms: Profligate? He really hoards money and valuable items, that's his coping mechanism. Materialism.

 

[Kai and Gerda]

I said I was gonna do this with all my characters, didn't I? Alyosha Drutin is next. He shares a few traits in common with his brother Val.

• Personality: Callous, Cynical, Stubborn (also Paranoid and Impatient)
• Education: Formidable Banneret
• Congenital: Herculean, Handsome
• Physical: Strong
• Lifestyle: Whole of Body
• Leveled Traits: Hunter, Blademaster

• Criminal Traits: Witch; being a Light Side Sith makes him an outlying FU, not fully accepted by either the Jedi or the Sith.
• Coping Mechanisms: Confider, Athletic, Irritable, Hashishiyah (more broadly, he has used drugs to cope and is a chain smoker.)

Stewardship: 4; The Thrifty Clerk is adequate when it comes to investments and administrations, but blunders in the art of stewardship are still the norm.

Intrigue: 4; The Flamboyant Trickster has received an education in the art of intrigue, but still has a lot left to learn before mistakes and blunders become exceptions rather than the norm.

Learning: 4; The Insightful Thinker is adept at most matters theological, but sadly both actual skill and dedication seem to be lacking.

Prowess: 2; The Confident Knight is familiar with the ways of their culture's traditional combat, even fighting a few actions against recalcitrant peasants as a teenager.

Unlike in CK2, the character's sexuality is not a trait, it's an inherent part of them; a/hetro/bi/homosexual.
The sodomite thing is a criminal label for religions opposed to same sex relations.

I'll do some of my other characters later, I'm finding CK3 a much better means of showing the traits than CK2.

So if you want a min/max person for prowess and some martial, she's your girl. But she's not a good leader of a country!
