Strengths & Weaknesses:
Skills:

  • Military Mage: Like every Angelii, Kaida is a trained not only in the use of space magic, but in the use of conventional weapons, military tactics and such, which makes her a capable soldier. She's very experienced in small-unit tactics and small command of groups of soldiers. During the Netherworld Crisis, she was briefly in command of all Angelii after all officers higher than her disappeared. However, she's best utilised at Company level. She is also a fast learner and capable of thinking on her feet. As a commander, Kaida is calm, composed and methodical, and does not scare easily. She works in a team with her battle sisters, instead of charging off on her lonesome to 'get the glory'.
  • Mage Marks(wo)man: Trained in the use of conventional firearms to supplement her skill as a cryomancer. Particularly fond of using the Mark One Bolter. Served as an instructor to train Angelii in the use of modern weapons after leaving the Pyre.
  • Elemental Warrior: All Force-Sensitive Eldorai, or Sciians as they call themselves, are gifted in harnessing the elements. Kaida is no different and thus has an aptitude for Alter Environment. Her specialisation is the manipulation of ice and water. This enables her to do things such as freeze opponents in a manner similar to how a cryoban weapon would, create massive ice spears, muck up a droid's power cell with water, freeze someone's blood and summon blizzards. It is obviously easier to use cryomancy productively on a snow planet like Hoth than on the desert world of Tatooine. In hotter climates she can, for instance, generate superheated steam. She is also proficient in manipulating the earth and the air, though less specialised in both. Her command over the earth covers magnetism as a subset of terramancy. Creating a massive whirlwind, generating magnetic fields to crush metal and summoning blasts of elemental lightning are part of her repertoire. Her affinity for all things arctic encompasses the ability to summon avalanches and glacial quakes in the appropriate terrain.
  • Mind over Matter: Kaida is very good at telekinesis. She tends to favour applications such as ballistakinesis, which is often combined with her aptitude for cryomancy by summoning a storm of icicles accelerated to railgun shot level. Also fond of Force Grip, Choke, Push, Crush and so on.
  • Glass Cannon: As with all Eldorai, Kaida is physically weaker and less tough than humans. She also has an increased metabolism, meaning she requires more calories than the average human. She is strong and robust for an Eldorai, but can be at a disadvantage when it comes to contests of raw power and stamina.
  • Weak but Skilled: Well, she cannot be considered weak at all, but in combat she focuses more on precision and cold, calculated strikes than raw power. As an Eldorai, she is more nimble and dexterous than a human. This is reflected in her sabreplay, since Makashi favours precise parries, fluid riposts and light, accurate cuts to redirect and intercept an opponent's blows. When pressed and forced on the defensive, she will also use Soresu. Tying in with this, she is able to camouflage herself by bending light and manipulating sound waves, along with masking her aura.
  • Barrier Warrior: Proficient in defensive powers such as Protection Bubble and Tutaminis. She's also good at shielding her mind from mental attacks.

Personality Traits:

  • Ice Queen: Let's not mince words, Kaida's a queen. She's blunt, tactless, abrasive and very cold to most people. Truth be told, she finds it awkward to interact with most people in social situations outside of the job and often falls back on being fallen. There are a few exceptions to this rule though. As an officer, Kaida is a bit of a martinet who demands strict adherence to set rules and metes out punishment for failing to follow them. On the flip side, she is very disciplined and has very strong nerves.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: She's a complete queen to recruits. Not out of sadism, but because in her opinion they need to be treated harshly to get toughened up. Considers it a legitimate training method to freeze an Angelii recruit and expect her to be able to escape the ice encasement. Same with dumping recruits in a cave far away from the base and expecting them to make it back with few supplies while being hounded by droids. The Angelii demand disciplined soldiers who can work as a well-oiled machine, not death charging fools. Ergo they have to be treated harshly and turned into mean fighting machines. So far Elayne Saedaris, Elincia Alanis and Galina Kerrigan-Alcori have been on the receiving end of her training methods. However, though she's harsh, Kaida is not a hypocrite. She doesn't order her soldiers to do anything she wouldn't be willing to do herself, and her living conditions are rather spartan both in and off base.
  • Married to the Job: Kaida is a workaholic who never takes a vacation and probably wouldn't know what to do with herself if she somehow ended up going on one. Presumably after being ordered to do so. Suffice to say she lives for her job and doesn't conceive herself as being anything else than a soldier. Not because she thinks she can't be anything else, but because she doesn't want to.
  • Good Is Not Nice: She's rather prickly at the best of times, even to her friends. Also a big fan of corporal punishment. She is not a people person, but on the flip side those sorts don't usually make good drill sergeants or long level officers.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Has a thing for poetic justice. Particularly against pirates, slavers and so on. Tends to have a no prisoners policy when it comes to them. Kaida has a violent streak in her personality that was particularly apparent during the Kaeshana exodus, when the planet spiralled into chaos due to the imminent impact of a massive asteroid. The exodus fleet had only limited space, panic broke out. Kaida ended up shooting desperate civilians to preserve order, then later executed captured rebels who'd risen up in the belief that the Goddess would save them if they cleansed Kaeshana.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: See above. Kaida is rather scarred by the events that took place on Kaeshana. Firing on your own people, especially since many just wanted to escape and live, will do that. Likewise the first battle of Gehenna, where she lost friends and herself almost died when Kerrigan tore down a good chunk of the Bando Gora capital, mucked her up, though she got over it. Was deeply affected when her older sister Lavina vanished during the Netherworld event and never returned. She's extremely averse to talking about her issues, seeing it as an admission of weakness.
  • Determinator: Both physically and morally, Kaida is a brave individual. She is not afraid to risk her life for things she cares about, is very loyal and has a strong sense of duty. She's also extremely resistant to mental manipulation. She was extremely loyal to the Tygaran Alliance, her battle sisters and the Star Queen of the Eldorai.
  • Took a Level in Cynic: Young Kaida was a lot more idealistic, cheerful and naive. Also annoying. Discovering her race's true origins, travelling across the stars and fighting in a couple brutal wars, not to mention losing her homeworld, changed that. Views the world through jade-coloured glasses. Silly Rabit, Idealism is for Kids applies. On the positive side, she's not racist like she used to be, since she discovered that the Eldorai's pretensions of racial superiority were bogus. This does not stop her from having a somewhat condescending attitude towards Tygara's natives because they're 'less advanced'. After becoming disillusioned with the Eldorai Matriarchy, Kaida has left the Angelii and joined the Shadow Knights. She is a gruff, deeply jaded woman who lacks empathy.

Biography:
Kaida Taldir was born in a family of lower caste Eldorai, though they were not mere commoners. Her family lived in the city of Naldasa, a minor town about 100km from the capital city of Santaissa, the city most open to foreigners. Both her parents worked in the local administration, but while her mother Diya had a good job as chief of accountancy, her father had the less significant position of data entry clerk in the department of master data maintenance.

Kaida was born shortly after her elder sister Lavina started school and the two were quite close during their childhood. This was a period of great changes and upheavals for the people of Kaeshana, who had for millennia lived in splendid isolation, secure in the belief that they were the only intelligent and most developed race in the Galaxy. The Plague and the Four Hundred Year Darkness had been conducive to such notions, but now outsiders were finally finding their way back to Kaeshana. Some came as merchants, eager to trade their goods, with the resultant culture shock that they possessed superior technology, but others came as pirates and raiders, eager to murder, pillage and enslave. However, at this stage the Taldirs saw very little of foreigners. For one the monarchy was eager to keep them at arm’s lengths, though it eager to adapt their tech to its own use to strengthen the kingdom. Moreover, most foreigners congregated in Santaissa and the Taldirs were more focused on their own survival.

Much like Lavina Kaida was in a rather traditional system of education, learning how to read and write from a male servant – having one was a way for the monarchy to make all Eldorai women feel united in their superiority despite the fact that there were strong class barriers – and later beginning junior schooling at the age of ten. As a student Kaida was quite gifted, one could say precocious, though her bossiness and due to her having a bit of a know-it-all attitude did not exactly make her win popularity contests. Her powers first manifested at the age of sixteen when Naldasa was hit by a flood.

Kaida, who could not swim, watched her parents get swept away by the tide and was caught in it. Seemingly helpless and in an act of desperation she unconsciously drew on the power inherent to her and froze the water in front of her to create an ice floe and subsequently managed to crawl onto it, effectively floating on the water for several hours before she was picked up by a rescue team that had been searching for survivors on a ship. Lavina arrived too late, but took Kaida to the Academy as they were two members of the family left.

As the dictates of fate or perhaps changed would have it, this event would lead to a profound change in Kaida's life. Force-users were highly valued in Eldorai society. Indeed, being able to harness these powers was the best way for lower class elves to rise up in rank. However, control and use of the Force was highly regulated by the government, which was mindful of how dangerous uncontrolled force-users could be. In this way Kaida was no different from other Sciians, or force-users, and quickly found herself taken away from her school by official edict and enrolled in a government academy meant to train Sciians and make use of them. She was shaken by this tragedy, feeling isolated and lost in the government school. For a certain period of time she was resentful and not a particularly good student and as such risked disciplinary action because she seemed reluctant to use her power.

However, eventually she drew strength from the tragedy, using it as a spur to become as good as she could be in her studies. Once Kaida was brought to the ‘Academy of Four Powers’, she also got a stronger bond with Lavina, who took a bit of a protective role in regards to her. At age thirty she joined the Angelii Istrai, the young angels, and underwent training in the use of weapons and how to use her powers for combat purposes, specifically a support role, and she displayed great enthusiasm at her training. However, her training in the Young Angels was not without its share of trouble.

Kaida had a habit of frequenting the Foreign Quarter, even though the trainers at the academy tried to keep the sorcerous soldiers in training on the straight and narrow of Eldorai orthodoxy, along with a few friends she had acquired. Alas, tensions between foreigners and natives often tended to boil over. Rather ironically, given her xenophobic views, Kaida ended up in a public brawl with members from the Nebula Front, zealots who believed the Eldorai people were being morally corrupted by contact with ‘foreign devils’, especially ‘human monkeigh’, and the import of foreign holomovies and music. She wounded one of them severely though not fatally with ice shards before the fight was broken up by palace guards. Needless to say this was a bit of an embarrassment, especially since some elven aristos covertly backed the Nebula Front, and as a consequence she was put back a class. Later after becoming a full Angelii she started her tour of duty at a remote garrison in a mountainous region.

Much to her disappointment, she did not get the chance to face actual combat against the ravenous groups of pirates and slavers that dared to attack the chosen people. Over the years she rose to the rank of Wing Leader, the Eldorai equivalent of Corporal. She quickly picked up a knowledge of Basic as more and more outsiders came to Kaeshana, bringing foreign tech and in some cases foreign ideas with them, as dangerous as those could be.

She did some voluntary work in the palace archives in her off-duty hours, taking an interest in the tale of Malya Hendilan, one of very few Eldorai to leave Kaeshana and become Jedi Knights and, as far as the elves knew, the thief who had stolen the Ardithae Codex, perhaps the most sacred of tomes the elves possessed. Alas, her rather low rank kept her from interacting with foreigners at length, aside from at times performing guard duties when visitors arrived.

Her life underwent a profound change when Jedi Master Phylis Alince and Omega Colonel Siobhan Kerrigan travelled to Kaeshana in search of the Codex and Lavina wound up getting embroiled in what could be called the Codex Conspiracy. When Lavina decided to go with the offworlders and see the stars, after little hesitation Kaida decided to come with her. Time would tell whether this was a decision for good or ill.

Like her sister, Kaida joined Omega Pyre, becoming a Corporal. Adapting to the new world was quite an experience for her. For one, men were treated as equals here! On the positive side, there was far less of the stultifying conformism that she'd hated so much on Kaeshana. Same applies to stomach-churning punishments for infractions.

Kaida fought on several battlefields to advance the cause of the Protectorate, such as on Sluis Van, where she took down a Dark Knight. When Queen Tirathana VI died and a struggle for power erupted on Kaeshana, Kaida accompanied the Protectorate delegation led by the exiled Princess Anya Venari. Civil war broke out when the archconservative Princess Nalia tried to seize power, and Kaida battled her Angelii, helping the decadent, but more progressive Princess Silaqui take the throne. As a reward, she and Lavina were pardoned and their exile was lifted.

However, Kaida still felt like a stranger on her home planet, and elected to stay with the Protectorate. Her faith in this nation was tested during the Battle of Gehenna, when Omega invaded the Bando Gora homeworld. Fighting her way through hordes of Bando Gora Reavers and other abominations, Kaida narrowly escaped with her life when Kerrigan's power brought down the mountain upon the Chaos cultists' subterranean city. Badly injured and shell-shocked, she needed some time to recover after this. It was the start of her animosity towards Siobhan Kerrigan, then the Protectorate's Exarch.

When Lady Protector Tegaea Alcori stepped down after being mortally wounded by the evil Sith Assassin Kaelin Isandros, Kaida was left adrift. Having no connection to the new leadership and needing some time away, she left the Pyre. After a brief time as a mercenary, she returned to Kaeshana, accepting an offer from Princess Anya.

The Angelii needed soldiers who understood modern warfare since they sought to advance with the times, and so she was promoted quite fast, though this also led to resentment. After Silaqui was murdered by rebellious Angelii, Kaida helped put down the revolution. Anya took the throne as Tirathana VII, ushering in the so called Venari Restoration. A compact was formed between the Eldorai and the human-led corporation Firemane Industries, which was run by Kaida's former superiors, Tegaea and Siobhan: The Kaeshana Confederation. From this day onward, Kaida devoted herself exclusively to the defence of her homeworld and her people. She might still be apart from them in many ways, but they were her people.

Her attitude became more conservative and rigid as she rose in the ranks. The formerly brash and somewhat naive, adventurous young woman became a rigid disciplinarian. At the same time, she helped introduce modern tactics and weapons to the Angelii, despite meeting significant institutional opposition from the old guard. She fought Bando Gora Reavers during the second exterminatus on Gehenna, slavers and the Lost Kar'zun when the Legion of the Damned tried to burn Kaeshana in retaliation for the near-genocidal campaign Ariane the Great had unleashed upon their people centuries ago. On a personal note, Kaida was part of the strike team that accompanied Coryth Elaris when the Jedi Master ventured to Malachor to vanquish a malevolent artefact that was killing her through vile magic. Impressed by the Jedi's strong resolve, the cold Angelii ended up crushing on her. During these campaigns, she also struck up a friendship with Tempest, regarding her as a fellow battle sister. She also participated in the Omega Protectorate's failed attempt to liberate Coruscant from the One Sith. Fortunately, she wasn't at the palace when the Starfall crashed into it!

During the Second Akala Crisis, so many of Kaida's superiors were whisked away into the Netherworld that she was temporary commander of all remaining Angelii. With the Protector
