You did it again, didn't you? [Vani/Sandrow]

Jak Sandrow

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
He looked down at her, holding her up by the arms. "No, no, I don't think you can. Here, uh, could you call Re?"

He intended to use the kitty to help her get to his ship. If Re was willing.

"Pfft. Re ish gonna be asleep. Beshides, 'e dunt know da way." she knew her cat. It wasn't gonna do much to help anyways. He was lazy at best.

"I c'n try, jusht help me." She got back on her feet, putting her arm around Jak.

"Lesh go."

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"Fine, fine." He helped her up - carefully - and put a supporting arm around her waist. "Right. This way."

What was a 10 minute walk there turned out to be a half-an-hour walk back.

But they made it. Jak got his bedroom cleared out, and made her a comfortable bed. Helping her into it, he closed the door to his room, locking it from the inside. Then he plopped down onto a couch, exhausted.

Emily fell asleep soon. The first part of the night was comfortable, sleep came easy. Then it happened again.

The screaming.

The terror.

She had had bad night terrors for a while. She thought they had gone away. Apparently they hadn't. And now she was screaming in fear on Jak's bed.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
He woke up sometime after two, according to the chrono.

What had woken him up?

Then he heard it. Screaming. Coming from Emily's room.

He checked the door. Still locked.

Not good.

He began to ram at the door, but it wouldn't budge.

Taking a spare key from a hidden cubby, he unlocked the door and rushed in, to get the assailant - To find her screaming on his bed.

He had to wake her up.

"Emily. Emily! Wake up!" He shook her, trying to get her awake.

It took five minutes of nothing but screaming. But she calmed down and eventually woke up.

"Jak..." she whispered, while crying.

She looked at him with tears in her eyes. She had no idea what the terror had been about.

But it shook her. She felt afraid and alone. As she always did after an episode like this.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
He gave a faint smile. "Hey Emily. You... I think... well... you were screaming... sorry about the intrusion..."

Aw kark it all.

He sat down on the bed beside her, just there for comfort.

"Can I help in any way?"

"Just...come here..." she said.

She needed comfort. Re was something, but sentient warmth and comfort was different.

And she felt comfortable with Jak.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
He sat closer and put a protective arm around her.

Saying nothing, he just... was there for her.

She needed someone to be there for her, and, well, he volunteered.

"I'm here," he said.

Emily wrapped her arms around Jak, trying to pull him close. She was still crying.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry...." she felt bad for being a nuisance.

"I didn't mean to...to be so annoying..."

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"You're not annoying," he said, hugging her back.

"And it's not your fault. From the sounds... you couldn't help it."

He just sat there, fine with being a plushie for a while.

Soon, sleep fell again. This time, peacefully.

She slept all night and the terror left her exhausted.

There wouldn't be any waking up unless someone were to do it for her, lest she sleep til the day was over.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
When sleep eventually claimed her, he put her back in bed, and left her there.

Collapsing back on the couch, he was conked out till the next morning.
-----
"zzzzzgnck. Unh..." He got up, wiping the sleep from his eyes. Doing a quick check, he saw Emily still in bed. Leaving her there to wake on her own time, he made breakfast - nerfbacon and eggs.

Sometimes, things other than people could wake her.

Bacon. In any form, from any animal, did just that.

She stumbled into the kitchen, hair a mess and makeup smeared. "How do I look?" she asked with a grin.

"How many you got?" she asks, grinning.

"Also, while you're cooking, where can I refresh myself?" Picking up her bag she looks at Jak.

What an interesting man.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"Enough to feed a starving Wookiee," he said honestly.

"Ahh, right around the bedroom is the bathroom. That way," he pointed.

What an interesting woman...

He shook the thought away and concentrated on bacon.

Emily took her time to shower and reapply makeup.

Emerging from the steamy bathroom, she hopes the food's ready.

"Eh chef Jak! Got that food ready? Re'll need some too."

She went back into the kitchen barefoot, padding on the floor.

She flashed a smile at him.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
He grinned. "Yep, just a minute, let me set the table. Well... the holoboard, anyway..."

Clearing a spot for both of them, he put an extra steak on a plate on the ground for Re.

Where had Re been, anyway? Eh, no matter.

Getting two more plates, and some cutlery, he got the food on the table. "It's ready. Come and geddit!" he yelled.

A huge grin instantly came across Emily's face. Food. Might as well be her significant other.

"Looks dandy!" she said, sitting down.

No time was wasted in eating everything on her plate. She sat back, feeling quite content.

"Y'know, I'm not used to this good of treatment."
