Without Expectations (GR Dominion of Saleucami)

Objective 1
Location: East side of base in forest
Allies: Republic
Enemies: Threats to the Republic

As we moved through the forest the sounds of blaster fire and explosions get louder and louder. It seemed like the droids had not picked up on us yet because they were doing normal patrol routines. I whispered to the commander beside me and said "Spread your men out and pick targets. Then wait for my signal". He saluted then snuck back to a different position talking over the radio. I used the force to increase my speed but also keep me silent as I got to the tree line. I saw a few pirates but the position was composed of basic droids.

I used the force to pick up a sharp stone on the ground and fling it against the metal wall. It made a clanging sound loud enough to get the droids and pirates attention. They all looked at the same point of contact at the same time. I gave the signal hand motion and my troops came out of the forest and fired. They hit droids and pirates dropping at least eleven of them before they knew we were there. I ignited my lightsaber and charged the position. I blocked and reflected blaster bolts back at a droid destroying it. Then I force pushed a human mercenary into a wall knocking him out cold.

Blaster fire was all around me when I went for cover. A captain came up to me and said "That bunker is ripping us apart. We can't get close to take it out". I said "Pull your men back into better cover, I'll handle the bunker". He gave me a thermal detonator and ran back to his men. I gulped and said to my self "I only have one shot at this".

Objective: 1
Location: Republic Command Post
Allies: Republic forces
Enemies: Malcontents in the fortress

There was something charming about the boom of heavy guns unloading their payload on enemy forces, she had to admit. A sort of musical quality to them, like big drums thundering out a crescendo.

"Ma'am, requests for barrages in two locations," a gunnery officer said from his station. "Locations are here and here."

The requests came through on the holo table, one from [member="Solan Charr"]'s unit to the north and one from [member="Valkren Calderon'"]s unit. Nodding, the guns readjusted their targeting systems. A few seconds of silence followed then the boom sounded again. A whistling sound and an explosive barrages of shells would fall across the enemy formation near the sergeant's position, devastating their entrenchments and the fortifed position pinning him down.

Reloading.

Another wave of fire flew out, striking the enemy line in front of Solan's forces, breaking anything that might be stopping them from advancing forward. With those done, the guns once again turned to open up on the fortress's actual defenses, cannons exploding into metal fragments from direct hits, permacrete smashing through a guard tower.

"Air cav has arrived, awaiting orders now."

And now they had air superiority. Excellent.

With the alarm sounding and the rubbish flying all over Ka-Aver was surprised that the defending mercs stayed behind. Realizing that it was very likely that these Nikto enforcers considered their leader something more then just an employer, the weequay was impressed by their proud yet somewhat foolish last stand.

It was almost impossible to walk straight up with the constant bombardment raining down and so Ka-Aver staggered forth through the corridors. the screams of mercenaries ordering each other around mixed with the sound of the first sound fo blaster shots being fired revealed that the republic forces were on the brink of breaching the fortress. Soon this place would be a place of close quarter combat. Ka-Aver prefered to not be part in that and so he decided to go to extreme measures.

Turning down the last corridor he found the guard in front of the door.

"Get out of here Weequay! This is the bosses private hangar."

Ka-Aver pretended to stagger a bit more to gain within range, then he looked up with a crooked grin.

"Zure thing man. I have no intentionz of zticking around..." he replied dryly and pushed his glaive through the guards torso. He casta quick glance over his shoulder. No one seemed to be around. Or at least no one bothered with it.

"righto... " he mumbled and placed his back pack on the floor beside the door. He started to pull on the wires he had brought with him.

"Itz boom time..." he told the door and started to plant the explosives.

Objective 1
Location: In the trenches, litteraly
Allies: Republic
Enemies: Criminals!

01/20

RC was in a trench as soon as the shelling started. His team of commandos had inserted among the north perimeter and waited for the inevitable bombardment. As the shells rained down on enemy positions the small four man team of elite professionals slipped into the trenches with a sudden four hundred meter dash that made his chest heave.

For a second he found himself face to face with a stratle youngin'. Looked like a rookie, barely holding on to his rifle. It was merely a second though, because his life was cut short as RC punched him in the throat, ejecting his hidden vibroblade and twisted, literally cutting his windpipe to shreds. Blaster fire began to erupt across the tench as the commandos posted at both ends, laying down a blanket of particle beam fire superiority. Blood, mud and blasters. The smell of scorched flesh, and the sounds of broken bodies. Just how RC preferred it.

He kicked the body with his Katarn plated boot, and it fell back into the mud.

"Alpha team report."

"All up Cap'n."

"Reform on me, explosives at the ready."

RC wasn't interested in dragging this out. They weren't here to play godlike soldiers or to kill scores of criminals in the name of justice. Justice be damned, RC was here to kill things and get a payheck. Mission parameters stated the leader of this little org had to be taken out. The most direct route? Blast a tunnel in from the trenches and up through the floor of his palace.

"All right first charge go."

RC nodded, tapping his helmet twice and motioning for the team to fall back. There was about to be a roaring explosion.

Objective 1
Location: East side pinned down by bunker
Allies: Jedi and Republic
Enemies: Scum

The blaster fire was getting heavier as the turbo-lasers were focus firing on me. They must have realized I was a Jedi and put me on the priority one list. The soldiers took cover in the tree line behind me a put down suppressing fire on the bunker so it slowed its firing on me. When a opening appeared I ignited me lightsaber again and charged forward. I used the force to sense incoming fire and deflected it. The light of my blue saber as I deflected the red blaster fire was quite a sight but I had to pay attention to the battle.

As I got to the front of the bunker I concentrated the force around my legs and jumped forward boosting myself into the air. I used the force to slow myself down as landed on top of the bunker. I then stabbed my saber into the roof and made a small hole then dropped the detonator into it. I heard what sounded like a scream but it was muffled as I jumped away to safety. I landed back into the tree line just as the explosion went of turning the bunker and anything in it into scrap metal.

The rest of the droids were destroyed and the pirates retreated back into the base. The ones that were knocked out awoke just in time to be handcuffed and arrested. I pulled out my holocom and called Master [member="Taeli Raaf"] and said "Master we have cleared the east side and are in need of transports for wounded and prisoners, over".

Objective: 1
Location: Vesyr's base
Allies: Jedi, Republic Soldiers
Enemies: Vesyr and his cronies

[ 2 / 20 ]

Explosions to echo from all around him.

They must have started their attack.

He watched as a Republic starfighter streaked overhead; Travot guessed that it was performing some sort of strafing run on the base's defenses, but it could well be pursuing one of their enemies trying to escape by speeder or starship. He shook the thought away. I've got enough to worry about just like this without thinking about flying....

Travot peeked out from his impromptu foxhole to view the base's perimeter. Smoke and dust billowed out from where the Republic guns had hammered the enemy's positions. This looks like as good of a time as any.

He closed his eyes and began to concentrate on the Force, merging his will with its vast currents of energy. The air around him seemed to shimmer briefly before he disappeared from visual sight. He gingerly stepped up out of the crevice and slowly walked towards the partially broken wall in front of him. It seemed almost ridiculous to him, to be moving so slowly among such destruction and violence reigned around him. Yet he knew that his skill with concealing himself with the Force would be at its peak the slower that he moved. He swat that errant thought from his mind and focused on manipulating the particles and light around him until he crossed through the shattered wall into the outer edges of the base itself. I feel something...someone...

He turned his eyes to the left to gaze upon a pair of Vesyr's guards, huddling up against the wall, trying to use it as cover from the impending Republic advance. He quickly glanced around and darted into a small recess between a pair of structural supports of one of the buildings. Looks like they won't see me from here. The padawan crouched down and stopped concentrating. If anyone could have saw him, it would seem that he had appeared out of midair. he unslung his borrowed rifle, ensured that it was set to stun, and leveled it to point directly at the nikto's back. He pulled the trigger, sending a flurry of blue bolts into their backsides. As the two slumped to the ground, Travot heard voices. Well, looks like that did not go unnoticed...

Objective: Infiltrate and destroy enemy communication station.
Location: Dropship over the communication station.
Allies: Members of the Republic
Enemies: Anybody who opposes the mission.

Soon enough the drop ship had lowered it's altitude so it was only a few hundred metres above the main building of the small compound. It was almost guaranteed that the guards defending the base were now aware of their presence. The infiltration and destruction of the base would have to be very quick to ensure that no reinforcements would be sent to Visyr's compound, risking the life of the Republic soldiers on the ground. Until the point where communication station was completely out of action, a temporary jammer was set up to stop any information being sent to and from the area.

After much anticipation the doors of the dropship opened and the artificial lights of compound flooded into the dark cabin. All of the soldiers sprung into action. They jumped from the ramp of the dropship, their weapons were drawn and they were ready for combat.

Valkren would reach over, pulling an rifleman from [member="Daren Silvari"]'s platoon down into cover just because he was the closest man to him at the moment. Just then, the second stage of shelling started. Not only did the two bunkers ahead of them take a brutal reign of high explosive rounds, but so did the trenches that were only meters away from the dropship where his platoon was at. Talk about danger close. Out here, Valkren didn't care about rank..He'd put his own life at risk if it meant saving the life of a single man, not matter his status.

Rocks and pieces of metal pelted the surrounding men, leaving scuff marks on their dirtied white and blue armor (Valkren's Platoon's colors.) If any soldier that was in his surrounding area didn't have a helmet on their ears were probably ringing from the bombardment that fell around them. He'd look up as the fire began to lighten up, reaching to [member="Daren Silvari"] and pulling him over. He didn't recognize the soldier personally, but he was in command of another Assault element, and that's exactly what Valkren would need. "You the PL? If you are, listen closely! As soon as [member="[/FONT]Taeli Raaf"]'s artillery ceases, we take the west trenches. We move fast and hard, try to keep assault specialists along the top of the trenches to provide support. Any riflemen you have, get them down in the dirt and get them to work! I won't lie to you, Sir..There will be casualties!" As the Sergeant said this he turned back onto his stomach, pulling his rifle back up infront of him, getting himself ready for the moment when the shelling stopped. Ofcourse, Daren did not have to listen to Calderon, for he didn't have any authority to tell him what todo. He just wanted to make sure they limited the casualties as much as possible.

Just then, the air was silent. There was a moment of peace in the air, only broken by the sound of wounded allies moaning as they cowered in the dust.

"We get through the trenches and to the edge of the crater, there we either climb down into the fortress or hook up ropes to rappel down."

At that moment, Valkren clambered over the top of the wrecked dropship, rifle in hand. He'd launch himself from the top and roll into the dirt below, beginning his stride toward the first line of trenches. Soon after, his own team of commandos followed after him, then the rest of First Platoon. As the smoke cleared, a wave of whitish armored men and women emerged from the graveyard like they did before the oasis. The marines and commandos moved up the hill, with Valkren in lead. They reached the crest of the first trench, where most of them had turned into small craters that were caused by the previous shellings.

A bolt suddenly slammed through Valkren's shielding, piercing the higher part of his shoulder. A gasp escaped his lips as he stumbled into the trench. His back slammed against the rear side of the defensive position, looking down to his shoulder as he cursed himself. The rest of his men got into position as the Nikto prepared themselves again.

This is where the real warriors were found and where the real fighting began.

While the two trooper units in the close vicinity started to move out under orders from their respective commanders Mantic had finished his guarding shield around the senator and was silently hoping that he would now decide to find cover and perhaps take a more defensive role in the operation he knew that was not going to be the case. He instead turned his attention to the dug in positions ahead. Two heavily fortified bunkers that seemed to be the target of Saber Team.

A barrage of fire opened up in both directions.
Mantic exhaled through his nostrils and let the flow simply take over. The blue lightsaber flashed to life and Mantic rushed forward a few meters, striking away one, two blasters shots that could ave been hitting the senator. Far from perfect he missed a third shot but it only found the surface of a grayish rubble behind him. Standing like this might give him a heroic pose but it was really very stupid in the long run. He did not have to give this any further thought as the experienced soldiers all suddenly darted into the trenches seeking cover and [member="Daren Silvari"] was himself pulled down by none other then [member="Valkren Calderon"]

Mantic followed suit, his saber deactivated, by making a long roll into the trenches where he landed softly beside the two officers. Catching his breath Mantic knew that the effort of the concentration was taking its toll. He needed to lerarn how to focus over longer period of times without loosing the ability to act upon his instinct properly. Taking this opportunity to decide on how to act during the plans being discussed was a welcome respite for him.
Mantic did not speak or act otherwise with the two officers talking and as [member="Valkren Calderon"] left for the advance Mantic remained behind keeping his head low as long as the senator remained in cover.

Daren nodded in affirmation at the advice that he was given by Sergeant Calderon, and turned to his men to issue those very same orders. He waited a few moments as First Platoon charged from cover and followed their commander, before turning to his own platoon and nodding slightly.

"I can't promise any of you that you'll escape the day with your lives, but if we survive this, drinks are on me." his words weren't inspirational or awe inspiring, but they spoke to the deep rooted nature of all men and women who were not strangers to battle - the familiarity of inebriation to take to edge of a rough day in battle. He smiled slightly at the resounding cheer, and then looked to his Jedi protector, and nodded - indicating that the same offer applied to him as well.

In the next moment, he followed Sergeant Calderon's action and charged from cover, his own platoon of white and blue behind him in a hail of cover fire so that Calderon could get to safety. He instructed his assault specialists to take point and carve out a gap in their defenses, while his demolitions experts fired a volley of missiles towards the fortress walls. It probably wasn't the most adept use of his demolitions team, but it would serve to cause a distraction to allay some of the blaster fire coming from the Nikto forces towards the Republic soldiers.

It was in that moment that he watched Calderon take a hit to the shoulder and fall back to cover. He quickened his charge forward and ordered his platoon to join the Sergeants in firing against the Nikto. He listened intently to the options being presented to him, while he retrieved a bacta patch from his own supply and placed it over the wound on the sergeants shoulder. "That should provide a little comfort to that wound. As for climbing down the crater to get into the fortress, I believe that it would take far too long. Rappelling down the side a few at a time while our riflemen provide cover fire would be the swiftest way down - and should provide less casualties. But, I defer to your judgment in this endeavor Sergeant."

It was then that he turned his attention back to the Jedi Padawan accompanying him, "I realize that I am not the easiest person to work with Padawan Dorn, and this request is likely not going to make it any easier. I'm going to need you to abandon your order of protecting me momentarily once we descend into the fortress, you will need all your wits about you, and worrying over my safety will do you no good. Besides, you've already done enough for me." he finished, indicating that he was very well aware of the fact that the jedi had used the force on him in some way, even if he did not know exactly how it was used.

Mantic panted from the rush laying next to the both officers. He followed the senators direct attempt in giving medical aid to [member="Valkren Calderon"]. He knew what he was doing so Mantic assumed the senator was no rookie or wannabe soldier. He had seen battle before.
Still, when the request came to ignore his mission Mantic could barely keep his thoughts to himself.

Decide what you want, senator or soldier? They come with different aspects.

But he kept it to himself and instead he answered.

"Senator, if you are a soldier then you know how this works. Get on the radio and request my superior to recall me. Commander [member="Taeli Raaf"] is the coordinated commander in charge of this joint operatipn. If she deems my protection unecessary, then I will leave my mission. Not before that."

"But, while we are here...
"
Mantic turned to [member="Valkren Calderon"]

"Are you familiar with the force Sergeant? I am off the jedi order and could try to ease the pain if you would be comfortable with it." Mantics voice was dry neutral. Typical emotional jedi talk, albeit still a bit interrupted by heavy breathing from the recent rush.

"Acknowledged, transports enroute to evac wounded," Taeli said, nodding over the officer coordinating the air forces present. With their forces advancing further on the fortress, at a good pace too all things considered, the artillery had shifted its main focus from destroying the enemy fortifications and bombarding the actual fortress, weakening the defenses there and opening up additional holes for Republic forces to slip into.

Republic gunships were moving in to insert other special forces teams on the roof of the structure, the holes there being the perfect infiltration spots. One gunship went up in flames from a concealed AA position ... which didn't stay concealed for long. A barrage of artillery hit the area, reducing everything into a large dust cloud and pieces of debris.

Solan watched from the tank he was in as the north part of the fortifications were lit up by the artillery strike and for a moment he grinned and was about to order the cannons on the tanks open up to blast a hole in the wall when the voice of a commando appeared over his headset. [member="RC 212 "]was in the way it seemed and how he just survived that much firepower thanks to the barrage it amazed him but even more so was how Solan looked at it now. "Soldier, you are about to recieve six antimatter missiles right on your head. Get out right now before you cause my men's own death for stalling our advance..." He glared across the field as he had to halt the strike and looked towards his men. "Find cover, we are going to be hit hard if we are stalled for too long..."

His plan had worked on the fact of being able to hit hard, fast, and get in before the northern defenses could recover from the amount of firepower used on them. Now he was stalled because of the tactic 'genius' of this soldier who decided to get in the middle of first an artillery barrage and now was stopping him from blowing a hole in the enemies defenses. If he had been someone of greater rank in the republic he'd have been even more annoyed that someone under him acted like such. But he could not help that, his troops were his own and not the republics which still caused him to stare for a few moments from the cover of the tank. This man had thirty seconds and if he could not move before then, then Solan would not let his own men pay the price for the problems caused by this man.

"Republic command, did anyone bother to think of informing me about a commando on the north side?" He questioned over the comm, not sure if this was going to be something simple or not.

Travot let the blaster rifle clatter to the ground as his eyes darted around for an escape route. He could hear voices growing louder through the occasional pauses in the din of the battle. He unhooked his lightsaber from his belt and tapped its secondary activation stud. A short turquoise blade sprang up to life. The padawan glanced at it briefly before turning around to drive into the wall behind him. Time to create a door...let's hope that there isn't anything ridiculous on the inside....The blade burned through the brick creating the outline of his new door. The man shove against it, toppling the bricks over into the building.

Almost immediately, a horrific scent flowed out to assault his nostrils. Instinctively he wrinkled his nose and turned his head to the side. But out here isn't safe, no matter how horrible smelling it is...He plunged into the dimly lit interior, watching as his blade illuminated angular shapes across the room. What is this place? Before he was fully conscious of it, Travot found himself rolling to the ground a quartet of blaster bolts surged over where his midsection would have been. I guess inside isn't much safer...He turned his eyes to view the attacker, quickly realizing that it was a remote, not unlike the ones he trained with at the academy. But this isn't the Academy. He reached out through the Force, grabbed hold of the spherical machine, and flung it onto the floor. It's exterior armor crumbled under the impact and it began to make unnatural mechanical whining sounds as it staggered back up into the air. He grabbed hold of it again, and tugged at it. The sphere flew towards him to impale itself on his saber tip. It faintly warbled before it went dark.

Valkren cursed himself as he felt the skin being seared below his shoulder plate. The bolt had pierced his low level of shielding, the armor plating, and barely made it through the layer of protective mesh-like material underneath his armor. "Keep up the fire! We need to keep moving, keep the hostiles on their heels." He said into the group comms' as he looked to [member="Daren Silvari"] as he approached the Sergeant with the bacta pack.

"Ropes will do fine then; appreciate the pick me up, Sir." He stated as the bacta was applied to him, he'd turn over lifting his rifle up as he continued to crouch behind the cover of the first line of trenches. He'd turn his helmeted head to the side ever so slightly so that [member="Mantic Dorn"] could recognize that he was speaking to him. "Bacta will do for me. When that wears off, I've still got the adrenaline pumping." Valkren grinned behind his illuminating visor before standing up and going to maneuver himself through the maze of trenches. With Saber team and the support of Republic first platoon, plus Silvari's assault element, there was no way that the Nikto could slow their advance.

Valkren was right, for the moment. The republic forces went through the first few rings of trenches with some ease. They'd reach the edge of the massive crater in no time. "Young, radio back to the stragglers and tell them to set up a casualty-collection point at the shipyard! Wounded and medics should be safe there!"

The blaster shots were still hammering down from the Nkto defenders. While they were fighting a loosing battle they still held the main fort in their hands and from here it was a huge advantage when it came to controlling the heights with cannon fire. Luckily the mercenaries mostly operated smaller fire arms and their canons were no match for [member="Taeli Raaf"] and her far superior fire power.

"Very well Sergeant." he replied to [member="Valkren Calderon"]
It was not uncommon for troopers to be a bit suspicious about the jedi. And who could blame them with all the force users running about claiming the title using the force as they see fit. the force was a danger in most hands and Mantic could onlu guess what sorts of evil these men had seen executed by by force users lacking the necessary guidance of the order.
"May the force be with you." he offered after the sergeant who seemed to prepare to move forward once more. For a moment Mantic was attracted by the thought to rush with him and abandon his current mission, just like the senator had wished for. But he pushed that notion aside very quickly. instead he bent down in the trench beside his objective [member="Daren Silvari"] and awaited the senators next move.

Kiyron deactivated the binocs in the helmet of his Havoc armor, white and gold already coated in mud and blood, same with the old short-sword. It was a very efficient tool at these close quarters. Much better than either the Republic sniper rifles or his preferred Mandalorian rifle. Not much good having a two kilometer range when your line of fire was only ten meters. Not that the rifle was inefficient at that range. In fact, it was absolutely brutal, but it could be better used in other ways. He needed to get to the lip of the crater and establish an observation and sniper post. With him were a handful of hand-picked members of Rogue Regiment currently operating under a loose recreation of Havoc Squad, since Kaiden Rohn had disappeared.

There was an anti-air emplacement thirty meters ahead of them, currently engaged in watching the sky, with infantry pickets around it. It was quiet on this side, with most of the attention focused on the primary Republic assault force. He set his rifle on the edge of a rock and adjusted his HUD. Two fingers up and a flip forward of the wrist sent two of his troops shifting forward. No yelling. No running. Quiet, slow, and deliberate. A mercenary appeared in the distance, looking their way.

Everyone froze and Kiyron looked down his scope, settling the cross-hairs on the helmet. Looked to be an old defunct Sith Empire model. He waited as the mercenary drew closer. His two advance troops waited, crouched among debris until the enemy was in range. They leapt out and plunged a vibroknife through his throat. The solider crumpled before a sound could come out. Kiyron gave a curt nod and slithered forward through the trenches.

The last few fell in behind him. They were close to their goal now.

She stood quietly as she observed the Jedi master issue orders and otherwise coordinate the Republic forces. Her glacial blue eyes soaking in everything they could. The deep purple eye sacks under her eyes contacted slightly as she felt her usefulness waning.

Her simple tan cloak hung over her violet glistaweb tank top and skirt. The living fabric of the skirts slit up to her thighs for ease of movement and showing ample skin at the top to allow her racial tatoos to show and not for the drawing of male attention.

The small yorik coral hilt of her light saber hung on the wide belt around her narrow waist. She would await orders as was her place and hope that casualties were few.

Finally, the word came though.

"Master dorn, you are asked to step down from current position, the senator has his own security. Proceed toward the fortress and enter with the ground forces. Over and out."

Inclining his head toward [member="Daren Silvari"] he then went low through the dust of the trenches that had been partly dug, partly blown into the soil. He had seen republic striek teams heading toward the fortress and meant to trail them toward a side entrance that apeared to be their objective.
Passing [member="Ulu Rin"] he stopped momentarily. There was something off about this one. For a brief moment images of past battles with the Vong flashed through his mind and he flinched at the sight of her.

He hesitated as he believed she was looking upon him. For a moment there everything stood still, what was this creature? It was partly carved from the monsters but also partly beautiful, in its own way.

Having come to a halt he paused and gave [member="Ulu Rin"] time if she indeed did seek contact with him.

To say that the planet Saleucami was the bright spot of its system meant merely that it alone, among half a dozen airless and desolate worlds, was capable of supporting life. Its own bright spots were not, as one might suspect, those areas that hadn't yet been victimized by meteor bombardments, but rather some of the impact craters the ceaseless celestial storm had left behind. For there the meteor strikes had conjured mineral-rich underground waters to the arid surface, turning the craters into caldera lakes, and the environs into oases of orbiculate flora.

Blue-skinned, yellow-eyed bipeds from the far side of the Core had been the first to colonize Saleucami, which apparently meant "oasis" in their tongue, for the world was just that among those they had visited during the long journey from Wroona. Since then had come hearty groups of Weequay, Gran, and Twi'leks, in flight from conflicts or in search of hardscrabble isolation, and up to the tasks of farming the colorless ground for moisture and subsisting on tasteless root crops that withered in the midday heat and froze solid at night. Eventually the planet had given rise to a city and a spaceport, constructed in the shadow of one of the calderas nourished by geothermal energy.

Saleucami's more recent immigrants were of a different sort: young beings from worlds as distant as Glee Anselm and Arkania, dressed in tattered clothing and carrying their possessions on their backs.
