As they had agreed on some sort of class Mantic started to ponder about how this could be handled.

"Well lady Annesley," he began testing his words. "How about that I get to mention your name as a reference to that there is an interest as I approach army educational centre? I know that the final call will be with your ruperiours regarding the class. But after the jedi moved their main temple away from Republic space there is perhaps a need to strengthen our bonds in other forms." he continued, speaking to himself as much as to [member="Sofia Annesley"]

"As for the moment I have perhaps taken up too much of your time my lady?" he realized that the gala evening had gone by surprisingly fast during their conversation. Around them the many people were mingling and enjoying the gala.

"Considering the double role you represent I would guess some of the guests will consider me rude for having you al for myself." he gave a smile.

Objective: Be James. Always be James.

When she extended her hand, James gave it a soft kiss and a sly smile, "Believe me, miss, the pleasure is all mine."

He was nothing if not enigmatic. And he saw no reason in the worlds for pleasure to not be intermixed with business. He took another sip from his glass and a quick puff from his cigarette. They were Tattowine Reds, designed to have a scent when smoked as pleasant for those around as the smoker themselves enjoyed. He let the intoxicating smoke wreath around them, like a business curtain of sorts. Unknowingly, he drew on the Force enough to keep it condensed around them. His connection with the cosmic energy was--a strange one.

What could he do? Well--

"Miss, that be like asking what can air do for a human," he said with a wink. "I have me connections who would be willing to buy ye supplies. And I personally would be willing to have a hand in things," he said waving the cigarette around, "What exactly do ye have in mind for ye clintel base? Any that ye are not desirous to see ye working for?"

When he saw her bid the spacer smiled slyly himself. Well played miss, he thought. Well played indeed. He wasn't in the mind to get into a bidding war with a potential client and business partner. That, of course could come across wrong.

He took the opportunity to lean in slightly to the youngling behind him and murmur, "I may also have some workers that might suit more delicate needs ye may have for our little meeting."

"That sounds like an excellent idea." Sofia said in reply.

"I didn't realize how much time had passed," she was surprised how quickly time had gone by while she conversed with [member="Mantic Dorn"]. "It was an enjoyable conversation and the same could be said for me. I know quite a few nobles who have voiced their interest in meeting you, Master Dorn. I apologize for taking up so much of you time and excuse me as I see a friend of my late fathers who I have yet to greet."

With that Sofia gave the Jedi a small nod and took her leave of the man to head towards the man she had mentioned only moments ago to greet and speak to him regarding her late father's company that she wished to revive.

No worries, it was fun :D

Vulpesen let out a small yawn, his one good ear flicking as he listened to the bids. "Heh... If I could throw away that kind of money, then I wouldn't have to bid for a date." He picked a drink for himself and took a sip, his eyes still scanning the room while a clawed hand clicked his comlink. "Vitae, report." He heard a short response. Apparently, most things seemed all clear, though the republic forces seemed a bit on edge about something. "Hands ready boys, but don't cause a fuss. Let the Pubs move or speak first. We don't want any unnecessary incidents."

As [member="Sofia Annesley"] said her farewell Mantic took a deep formal bow.

"My lady." he replied.

When she was moving away Mantic felt a sting of hope. He had few friends these days. Most were dead or gone missing over the constant attacks on the republic from every direction. It was truly a challenge for everyone not to let hate and vengeance get the upper hand for any member of the Galactic Republic these days. But the conversation with [member="Sofia Annesley"] had brought new hope to the jedi.
With reason, education and the iron will of those who remained there just might be a bright future somewhere in the future.

Taking in the athmosphere of the gala anew Mantic turned to make his own way into the crowd.

It was time to make those rich and powerful to open their purses a little bit more...

And there it was again, like a freight train full of explosives ramming into Lusk's heart the man felt that strange feeling of knots and an increased heartbeat. Though this time he was able to use what training he had to keep it down, he focused in on the objective and would accomplish it. And the objective here was to converse without making a complete fool of himself.

But when [member="Lady Kay"] uttered the word's of what the date was followed by the coup, Lusk's heart dropped as his eyes flashed back to the Moff he had murdered. To the nine other prisoners he had executed, and then to the students of the imperial academy he had killed. They were just kids, kids right out of school training to be an officer. They had done nothing wrong, yet Lusk had his orders to slit their throats and leave their bleeding bodies on the ground. People had died, a lot of people.

"Yeah." He said with a pause as he looked away for a moment.

Kay had only helped vote gen into power by backing the PM, she had only used words. But Lusk, Lusk was stained with red and left a trail of bodies behind him. Sons and daughters who just wanted to live their lives for what they believed in.

"I'd like that." Lusk said with a nod.

"But I am just... I just.." Lusk let out a sigh and took off his white dress hat to run a hand through the flat warrior mohawk on his head.

"Never mind. Senator I am sure you have guests to see, I should return to my duties." Lusk wasn't one to hide emotions. Kay would be able to see the pain splashed across his face over what had happened.

Aquila reached the hangar bay doors, which stood open. Fighters were visible, their pilots clearly going through pre-flight checklists.

She’d seen action in a few places now – but the Republic needed her, so she was here. It was ever that way.

She ran up to ship she’d been assigned and stepped onto the ladder. The footsteps of other pilots clanging around her.

A technician gave her the nod. "Fuel at max. All systems A-OK."

She quickly sat in the pilot's seat and strapped herself in.

Movement on the other side of the bay drew her eye. A rookie had climbed on top of the one remaining ship and raised its boarding hatch. He was now clambering down into the cockpit. They all had to start somewhere she mused.

She performed her own tests and said to the technician, “Checklist complete, by the way."

"Hello, Mr Dysar." Sofia greeted the man. Mr Dysar was the same age her father would had been had he still been alive. The two men were inseperable in their youth and were each other's best man at their respective weddings and godfather to the other's children. He had also been one of the first to offer up their home to Sofia when news of the tragedy spread.

"Oh, Sofie. How you've grown. You look so much of you mother but you have your father's eyes. Tell me, dear child, how have the years treated you?" The man beamed at Sofia. She was the last connection he had left to his old friend.

"I'm doing rather well, thank you. I am now a soldier in the Republuic army." Sofia smiled back at the man.

Mr Dyser looked at Sofia a bit disapprovingly. "A soldier. Why, that is too dangerous for a child like you. What would your mother say? If you like, I can take you in and allow you the life you should have had and find you a fine man."

"I quite like my profession Mr Dyser and I have no intention to marry soon. Aside from catching up with you I would also like to speak to you about reviving my father's old business." Sofia did not beat around the bush and went straight to the point.

The man shook his head. Sofia was too much like her father who was also a proud member of the Republic's family. It could not be helped. Like father, like daughter. "Oh, what a wonderful idea, child. I will offer my support anyway I can." Perhaps if she was to become a business woman, she might leave the army he thougnt hopefully.

It was then that seem with the initial bids place and slight feeling of apprehension wash over him. For as much could be said about him the newly recovering Jedi once lost to the order. Was that he wasn't much use to being on the spotlight seem kinda show at first as he stood there. That is until the first big came in and glance on the sideline he came note his friend Damon give him a thumbs up. As if in way sort of encouragement that he was doing quite well with things that he slightly seem to loosen up as began to less and less fidget. Then began stand tall and specially when from the sideline another bid came in.

"Five-hundred thousand credits."

Thought this one seem quite a bit more decent than the last as a he then out of curiosity turn his head. Slightly strain to lift one hand over his face. As he tired take a quick peek at the bidder whom at first glance seem not to disappoint. As her voice spoke ever so bluntly and a sly smile seem to form in her face. At which time seem feeling a bit confident that for what its worth seem he was not doing a decent enough work. Of perhaps aid in getting the gala some good funding for the refugees to say the least. Though feel a bit still apprehensive about revealing his face out in the public specially with the idea. That as far he knew for now was that to the world at large he was for the most part. Dead and with slight shake his head as the idea sort cross his mind. Of how crazy it would be if this was to be proven false thought the danger to him was no less great still. Now that he had yet to piece together the event behind his alleged death. But then again he figured with his presence in the force somewhat masked and tone down by some the earlier session with Master Coci. Along with the fact his face was hidden well behind the mask Ronin sort figured himself be safe. At any rate as he turn to the bidder Ronin then took a flute of champagne from a passing waitress and raised it to a salute towards her (Aleysa). As he with bit more confidence held and kept it for later drink ....just as the emceed then in turn spoke.

"Well now i guess were off to a good start then and it seem Mr. R approves so call the bid out again. That would be 500,000 credits to the Milady Alyesa from the house Organa .....so any more takers then....come on now folks i am sure some would have quite an interest in having this nice gentleman for a whole day....to talk or very least converse with...seeing lets face it.....we don't get much of a chance to generally speak with openly and freely with any of them....do we so i guess come on fold if anything else think of the great many good deed your donation and bid will do for the betterment of the gala's main benefactors.....so i ask again.....do i hear 900,000....so at least we can have the guys not seem be least left out in this....thought have admit the earlier bid was quite a generous one and should do quite well with aiding tonight intended benefactor cause."

The guilt that [member="Commander Lusk"] displayed was so easily seen and felt. Kay had no idea as to the extent of harm that the Commander had done personally. Such details were never reported on to the Senate. She reached over and touched his arm again as he held his hat. "The remorse you feel, like it or not, is a good thing. It shows your humanity, gives strength to your character as a person." She gave his arm a bit of a reassuring squeeze before letting go.

Kay switched the topic to something he might be more comfortable with. "So, what's the situation that your team is dealing with concerning the gala? Is it anything that I should worry about?"

At least she had friends here to watch her back like [member="James Justice"] . The scoundrel was starting to feel like an older brother to her, though they weren't related in any way.

Lusk felt the comfort of her touch and words, but as nice as they were to hear, they didn't fix the hurt. They didn't make the faces go away, and there were a lot of faces. Lusk followed his orders, there were things he wanted to tell Kay before they went on this date. There were things he had done that made him sick, and even though he liked her he didn't want to paint a picture that he was some fallen knight covered in the blood of necessity. No, the thing he had done would make Kay sick, and she deserved to know before they went.

So ignoring her topic change the man let out a heavy sigh and grabbed a chair that was near them. He didn't know why, but he felt the need to sit down when telling her the thing that haunted him.

"I don't fully understand what a date is, but I want you to go on one with me. I'm going to tell you something, and if you don't want to do the date with me then the money will still go to charity." a Lusk said as he took his seat.

"Yuuzhan'tar wild space sector. We had a job to eliminate a Yuuzhan Vong domain who was in charge of the capital. Me and my team raid their mansion at night and I'm on point, We have orders to leave no witnesses. So the servant comes around and I put two in his head. He's gone, then we make it into the master bedroom where the couple is sleeping. I move in and I'm going to kill them, pull back the curtains and nestled between the two of them is this little Vong girl. Maybe five, six years old." Lusk said with a pause, his eyes reddening.

"And she woke up, and gave me this look. Like she wasn't afraid, she had never seen anything like me. She just looks at me and I wanted to scream, I wanted to run, I wanted to walk away from all of it right then and there. But you know what I did?" Lusk said with hurt and pain across his voice.

"I killed her. I killed her, her parents, her uncles and aunts, every single member of her extended family and the people they were with. All of them." Lusk said as he put his free hand against his forehead.

"So this regret or remorse I feel isn't because I have good character or humanity, I lost that when I killed that girl. it's because I have to live knowing that I gunned down child and her family while they slept and then continued to kill the innocent in the name of the greater good. I followed my orders, and every part of me wishes that I hadn't, but my family needed me." Lusk then looked over to [member="Lady Kay"]

"So you still want to go on that date?" he asked her knowing that she'd see him as a monster.

These events were fascinating for the very unique mix of people they attracted.

Case in point, the princess and the bar brawler. High society and low brow. What a stark contrast between the woman and the man now flirting for her attention. When she'd turned her attention to the teenage youth, the boy had merely bowed slightly again. "I've had the honor of visiting Alderaan on several occasions," the boy recalled.

Which, was not a lie. He had been to Alderaan. Just not in the last 844 years or so. "You have a beautiful planet, Princess Organa."

He stayed quiet through the bidding, but did take note of the starting bid.

The Princess of Alderaan would be a good customer to have. Of that, there was no doubt.

"Thank you, I appreciate your support and I have faith tha with your help I may be able to restore Annesley Corp to its fromer glory." Sofia beamed. She needed something, anything to distract her from her hatred that would consume her if she did not control it.

"Anything for you, little Sofie. Your late father was a dear friend of mine and I would like to ensure that your needs are looked after." Mr Dysar had a slight sadness in his eyes when he mentioned the late Lord Annesley. The man gave a small sigh. Sofia was no longer the little Sofie he had known and bought trinkets for when he returned from his travels. She had changed and become a fine woman which made him a bit sad. If only he had a son the man thought, then they would be able to unite their families as he and his late friend had wanted. "My child, if you do find the time please do pay us a visit. Our little Reney has missed your company. The two fi you were always such good friends as children.

"I will, Mr Dysar. Thank you but I regret I must greet a few more people first. I was glad to be able to meet you again." Sofia maintained her smile.

"Very well, I will not keep you any longer my dear." The man gave Sofia a breif nod of his head as she left.

Well her change in topic didn't work. But she remained standing after [member="Commander Lusk"] sat down to tell his tale. Kay watched him, studied him as he spoke, her own brimming with tears at the thought of what he did. Of course she had no doubt that he was telling the truth.

He was a soldier, there is no doubt about that. It was what he was created for. Orders are given and he followed them, no questions asked, even if he doubted the morality of it all. And now it seemed that he wanted to know if she was okay with that, giving her the opportunity to back out if she wanted. But a promise was a promise....

"Commander, I can't say that I agree with what you did, but the real monster is the one that gave you those orders. Everyone has skeletons in their closet, some darker than others. I have my own....But what matters now is, if you get put in the same situation again, would you do it? Or would you handle things differently?"

As for his question about the date, she was witholding that answer for the moment.

"I try to rationalize it by the slaves we freed, they were going to sacrifice them. Even though I know killing them was wrong, the people we saved in the process... some of them were kids. So to make sure a scared child didn't die alone on an alter, yes. I'd do it again without a second thought." Lusk said with a fierce precision in his voice.

He regretted more than anything killing that child, but he knew she'd of grown up to be like her parents. She was a Vong, they killed innocent people and although she had not wronged anyone, it was what had to be done. Kill a few to save the many, the party guests, the butler, the lives they took that day ensured hundreds maybe thousands would survive. But no matter what it still didn't feel right.

"Our objective wasn't to free the slaves though, maybe some part of me had to give myself an excuse to why I did it. But that's not important anymore, what is done is done." Lusk rose from chair and looked down at [member="Lady Kay"]

"I thank you for your kind words Senator, forgive me for speaking too much." Lusk then placed the hat back on his head.

Maybe this was a start, Kay accepted what he had done and still wished to go on this date. Though it was the tip of the iceberg of what he had done for the republic. Commandos, especially clone commandos were sent on the missions where their hands got dirty. It wasn't like they were held in high regard anymore, so when the republic or the former prime minister needed something bad done they sent the clones.

Sofia, who was unused to wearing heels, was very tired. However, that was something she couldn't let on. One of the reasons why she did not care much for these type of events were the amount of care one had to take. If you were not careful, you could easily become the laughing stock of the social scene. Sofia couldn't wait to return to the hotel where she could remove the maskof Lady Annesley. Unfortunately, to her great displeasure, she still had a few more people to speak to before she was able to leave the Gala.

With a big smile Sofia or rather, Lady Annesley, approached those who she still owed a greeting to, becoming increasingly tired after each encounter. After an hour, Sofia felt a great sense of relief - as if a great burden was lifter off her shoulders - when she realized she only had only a couple left to greet. It was times like this where she would wonder why anyone in their right mind would envy those who were of high birth. The upper class had so many formalities that they had to partake in and the slightest mistake could result in ridicule if found out.

The evening was shifting into a later hour and Darion started to feel his mind go a bit number. He had not taken his nap today since he had pressed himself at the desk working hard to be finished in time to bea ble to make it to this gala event.

Now was the time for the younger generation to have their fun, besides he had made an appearance, shaken a few hands and even caused a few eye-brows raise when he had cast a bid on the date with [member="Lady Kay"]

All good and in order he figured and started to take his leave. Tomorrow was after all not that far away...

Sofia was preparing to leave this had been an eventful night. She had met and had a pleasant conversation with a Jedi, saw Mr Dysar again and spoke with nobles of other families but there was still one thing left to do. There was still a donation she had to make. Eager to leave, she wandered the venue looking for a member of staff to enquire about making a donation. As the night was nearing its end, many were busy or otherwise engaged. After 15 minutes, she had finally found someone she could ask.

"Excuse me," She said meekly. Although she was forced to engage with people on many occasions, she could still be somewhat of a shy girl. "May I ask where I may make a donation?"

"Of course, my Lady," The man replied and pointed at a table. "You can make a donation over there."

Thanking the man, Sofia headed towards the table he pointed to as she took a cheque book out from her purse.

She smiled and took off and was soon flying in formation in the direction of the pirates. Her R2 unit announced the appearance of three TIE bombers with a low tone, then brought the sound up as two TIE fighters joined them.
"R2, tag the bombers as targets one, two, and three." As the R2 unit complied with that order, she pushed shield power full to front and brought her laser targeting program up on the main monitor. With her left hand she adjusted the sighting calibration knob on the stick and got the two fighters. Good, looks like three klicks between the eyeballs and the bombers.

She took a deep breath, exhaled slowly, then settled her hand on the stick and let her thumb hover over the firing button. At two klicks the heads-up display painted a yellow box around the lead TIE fighter. The box went green as the fighter's image locked into the HUD's targeting cross and her R2's shrill bleat filled the cockpit. Her thumb hit the button, sending three bursts of laser bolts at the lead fighter.

"Telepathy it is then," Corvus said, glancing around. She spied a family of rodents, scavenging for leftovers under some nearby benches - clearly a place crumbs from snacks were regularly dropped.

"The best way to start is to close your eyes and connect to the Force. Meditate briefly. Then search with the Force. Look for emotions. I suspect the small creatures here will be a good start. Animals are easier to begin with with Telekinesis. I suspect hunger might be something you'll sense. Once you've found that emotion, follow it back to their mind. We are all different and so do it a different way. Some imagine it is like following water upstream. Others tell me it's like following data along a cable. Whatever works for you. And once you've reached the creature's mind, be gentle and tell me when you're there."
