What a Piece of Junk! [Sandrow/Vani]

Examining the datapad she picked up on Ord Mantell, she just said, "Whatever."

Then she got a notification.

Her face turned into a frown.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"Crispy it is, then," he said, continuing to drain the oil the strips produced.

He noticed something slightly different in her posture then. Something shifted.

Letting the bacon fry, he peered over her shoulder. "What's up?"

"Hmm. Nothing. A setback." she smiled again, "Nothing to worry about!"

The rest of breakfast was uneventful, besides the eating of food.

"So. What first?" she asked after the dishes were cleared. Re was curled up, content in a corner with a blanket.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"Paint job," he said. "We need to get this bucketa bolts looking respectable, no? I was thinking.... green..."

He hit the ramp button and headed outside, paint jar in hand and painting tools in the other.

Emily waited to go outside. She walked to the kitchen, grabbing some water.

Outside she gathered the necessary materials and began working.

Every once and a while, she'd glance at Jak.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
He was contentedly whistling away, turning the glaring orange of the ship's natural colors into a more soothing green, taking extra care to stay within the lines.

Every now and then, he'd sneak a glance at Emily... but he hadn't caught a return gaze yet. Was that good? Bad?

Many hours passed and the ship was done. She never noticed Jak look at her the entire time.

Was he really into her or...?

"It looks good Jak!" she says excitedly, examining the ship.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"Yeah," he agreed. "Now just to let the paint dry."

He hopped off the ship, then, landing gently with a puff of dust. "Did I ever show you the Farce?" he asked her.

Emily ran a hand over a dry spot.

"No, what's that?"

She noticed that Re was just sneaking back into the ship.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"Well, c'mon, I'll show you," he said, waving for her to follow him inside.

-----

"This is the Farce," he said, holding up what looked like a futuristic skeleton. "As you can probably tell by the name, it's not the Force, but something similar."

"Well. Uh. It's interesting. To say the least." she says, eyeing the odd mechanical-y thing in front of her.

"What's it do?" A poke accompanies her question.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"Here, help me get it on," he said, putting the back portion on like a backpack.

Once it was on, he flipped a switch. The contraption came to life with an unearthly blue glow.

"See, what I do is I - here, set that box down. What I do is I pull the mini-bar back like this, and then voila!" The box began to glow itself, and rose smoothly into the air. If Emily were to look into the Force, she would see no evidence of it being used - because it wasn't being used.

"Interesting... Is it just a bunch of controlled electromagnetic pulses?"

Emily kicked the box for fun.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"No... it's more like the tractor particles are controlled, and then they move the object in question. The reaction creates a blue glow when lifted, and a red glow when lowered." He demonstrated by slamming the box down right beside her foot.

"It's not very precise, but it does the job it needs to."

"Huh. Well, that's pretty nifty." In response, she closes her eyes.

Soon a replica of the device Jak is wearing appears on her own body.

"Do I look as sexy as you?"

"It's a fun trick. Not real. But still fun to play with."

She lets the image disappear. "What now, hon?"

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
He nodded, understanding coming back to him. "Ahhh... yes... Circe liked to do that... with her clothes... Ahum," he said, turning briskly away for a moment.

"Well," he said, "you could help me get it fastened to my slicing suit."

He pulled out what looked like a grey helmeted bodysuit.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
He shrugged. "I just wanted to combine them, that's all." He took the now-combo suit off, hanging it up.

Checking his chrono, he saw it was getting on for nightfall. And on Tatooine, that meant it was late.

"I need to hit the hay. Tomorrow? We head to... probably Naboo or somewhere. They've got good engines."
