Private War Games, Part II

Months before, Gress had offered an open challenge on Christophis. Today, he offered it in a more private sense.

Laphisto Laphisto had accepted the original challenge, and had offered quite the interesting puzzle for the walker commander. Given that he was a neutral party, the Davronion had felt a bit more welcoming in inviting the man back to Coruscant for another round.

The table in front of them was the same as before, though this one looked much more personalized, given it was in Gress's apartment. "Alright Dragon-man, let's see what new toys you got. You load in first."

Coruscant is the once bright and vibrant home of the Galactic Republic that he had once served many years ago. Granted, he had never truly found time to visit Coruscant during his time in the Jedi order when it was still a sight to see, living up to the stories he had heard. When he was originally called to Coruscant, he was surprised to hear from the Davronion again. Pulling himself before the terminal, he chuckled gently "Same rules as before, or should we add a little more spark to this fight?"

"I think we keep it the same rules. Just a...change of scenery." He clicked a few settings on the holo-table, changing it to an open forest, with two cleanings for each of them to set up, but a deep canopy between them, a river slipping them up, and a set of hills that made direct line of sight at the start impossible.

Laphisto would give a small nod; covering this was much better than the previous scenery walkers would have a harder time navigating, but at least it provided better cover. And with better equipment provided and created as a result of the previous war games Laphisto propped up the same number of walkers and infantry as before " alright then sounds good"

Gress had learned quite a bit since their last little game.

The Hellstompers had once been a small battalion of men, organized in small formations to support the walkers.

Now they were a formidable fighting force.

Once again, the center of his formation was dominated by Two massive Sphinx Walkers, now surrounded by Six newly upgraded Thundercats. Around them, six newly upgraded Wildcats alongside Five new Cougar Tanks, his new armored fist. In the back, three Lynx APCs held the assault force, 60 marines ready to charge forward when the signal was given, the rest of their men inside the Sphinxes. Finally two scout walkers headed up the pack, his hopefully, ace in the hole. He couldn't see the enemy now, Gress having activated a form of Fog of War that would allow neither of them to see each other immediately.

Normally, he'd also have a support and artillery platoon alongside his men, but for now he know it was an even playing field. He wouldn't need it...

tapping away at the computer, he again brought up twelve AT-AE MKII walkers. However, this time, four walkers had a different configuration instead of hosting their usual E.M.D.C with four sporting LO-24/AT turrets. His next move would be to load in eight AT-SW walkers and four AT-MSW walkers. with a single battalion of troops[576] forming up in the rear of the formation. After a few more calculations, he would look up to the man before him with a small chuckle rolling from his throat " alright then it seems like we are both set and ready "

Gress had a gut feeling. A second guess that he knew he'd regret if he didn't take it. He summoned up his artillery and support platoon. Six new Artillery Walkers set right in the back of his formation, while 2 TT-48s filled with support personal kept the back of the lines secure. He had 3 Cheetahs with sniper teams form up on the sides with the Bobcats, while the remaining 10 men, normally operating the Roc drop ships, he split through the rest of the formation. Assigning a pair of each to both Sphinx, as well as two per pair of Thundercats.

With the battle set, Gress's first move was simple. Each Thundercat and Bobcat fired off Recon droids through their built in mortars, the droids pushing ahead into the trees and over the immediate hill. If he could get a sighting of the enemy before they did him, he could start raining down hellfire...

* Laphisto raised a brow, looking at the man before him with a small chuckle." I must have scared you pretty well to increase the amount of units on the playing field." * looking through his armament, he would punch in a few of the buttons on the console, dropping down six more AT-AE MKII walkers, two bearing EMDC cannons, loading two more with LO-24/AT and the last two with LO-21/AAA turrets. While he didn't plan on facing air targets, the speed and target precision could be used to target missiles or even oncoming ballistic rounds. he also placed down three teams of Trace Xyston Trace Xyston 's elite Elghaseki in their new LO-90A MKII armor *

pushing his units forward, he splintered them into nine AT-AE walkers heading to the right and nine to the left, two on each side carrying LO-24 and one with LO-221/AAA cannons, dividing both columns evenly. Meanwhile, the AT-SW and AT-MSW walkers would spearhead forwards down the center. Each walker would be 100 meters apart from the other to ensure collateral damage wouldn't be a worry. Spacing the main forces in between the main walker groups, he would send the Elghaseki teams forward, allowing them to use their LO-PD1 scout drones to provide ample guidance and detection should they come across any enemy forces. as well as to try and locate the enemy Sphynx walkers

"Not scared, just a bit of intuition. Good commander trusts his gut."

The bobcats pushed forward around the sides of the hill as the Ravens flew up above the trees, and over the hill on his side. Even if they couldn't see anything yet. He knew he had to keep them at bay if he was going to press his advantage. As far as he knew, he had arty, and they didn't. The Bobcats pushed up to the River, hiding just behind the trees to keep out of sight of scouts, but controlling the Ravens to scour the ground below for any enemy formation. LIDAR scanners sweeped the forest floor, first spotting the enemy Elghaski teams as they came towards their own hill.

Rather than engage them with artillery, Gress took the cautious route. The third Cheetah came to the top of the hill on Gress's side of the river, the sniper team ditching their speeder at the bottom of the hill before climbing up and to a tree at the top, giving them overwatch over the whole riverside, and the area between Laphisto's hill, and the river. Using their Nemean armor's adaptive camo system, they blended into the canopy of the trees.

With the enemy in range, shots from the Spot rifle range out, aiming for what the sniper identified as an enemy sergeant, while the assist aimed an the enemy drone, his Claw blaster paired with the several accuracy enhancements meaning his ability to spot the small probe droid was enhanced.

as the shot rang out, the elghaseki sergeant was hit, the man hitting the forest floor from the round's velocity. One of the man's teammates grabbed him and pulled him behind cover. The drone spun towards the sound of the shots before eventually being shot down, broadcasting the last few images to the team it served. Using the sound of the claw blaster and the sniper rifle, the team's own sniper would begin to fire back with his LO-600s while the rest of the team engaged with their LO-44R blasters, laying down suppressive fire on both parties depending on where it was needed, with two of the snipers focusing on the enemy sniper while the other two aimed at the claw user. The sergeant that was hit remained lying down, his armor healing itself. one of the members working on checking on the sergeant, as well as calling in where they had engaged the enemy to the rest of the Lilaste forces

Overhead, the Ravens marked the enemy squad's position on the map, relaying that info back to the command walkers back behind the hill.

The snipers slowly climbed back down the tree, their adaptive camo patterns keeping them visually hidden, but that didn't prevent them from getting hit with a lucky shot or two. by the time they were back to the ground, retreating back down the other side of their hill, they were riddled with marks on their armor, their camo pattern glitching slightly.

Behind the lines, the Thundercats slowly moved up just behind the hill, out of sight, but now in range. The Mortars opened up on the enemy squad, the Cougar tanks moving out of the way and pushing into the woods behind the hill, and moving around the hill, keeping themselves hidden by the woods. Anything enemy armor that moved up would be lit up by Turbolaser fire...

the Spec ops teams would continue to move on the left and right, while the team in the middle pulled back and fell back to the main force. the teams on the left and the right would begin to scout, sending the LO-PD1 drones forward while remaining in the foliage. hearing a word about camo-cloaked snipers, the drones would cycle through various forms of visual data from thermal, infrared, etc., etc. the spec ops teams would begin to relay the information they found on the bobcat and tanks hidden on either side of the enemy side of the river.

the Walker columns on the left and the right continued to move forwards with the center collum remaining in place, pulling back to get out of range of the oncoming mortar fire the AT-AE walkers would hault at least a hundred meters from the break in the tree line, slowly lining themselves up with exactly 50 meters between them aiming at the directions of the bobcats and the tanks. meanwhile, two of the AT-SW walkers would rush forwards down the center of the forest pushing past the treeline and into the open air. triggering the trap laid out before them from the Galactic alliance tanks and walkers.

the moment the enemy began to fire - and even if they didn't within two minutes of the walekrs rushing out- they began to open fire sending a barrage of EMDC cannon shells with a mixed belt feed of LO-EIS7 [ION/EMP] LO-TCTS [Thermal/Cryo] LO-R6 [APCBC] the ION/EMP shells smashing against trees, hull, rocks, and dirt still sent thier EMP field into the surrounding air jamming communications and sensors leaving the effect to linger for upwards of thirty seconds - which didn't do much to negate the effect as the shells continued to fire in rapid succession leaving a perpetual effect in the area - mixed into the fray was the LO-24 AT cannons that fired har hitting turbo laser bolts that exploded against hull and trees. with a mix of the LO-34R rotary guns firing high-velocity SLug rounds that splintered trees and foliage on both sides of the river.

the moment the Lilaste forces began to fire on their unsuspecting prey, the rest of the middle collum marched forwards, spearheading forwards from the center, aiming to overtake the hill. though as they broke the tree line they would begin firing at the walkers and tanks on either side of them as they marched forwards.
