STRENGTHS
- Heavy firepower for a craft it's size.
- Excellent speed and agility.
- Scanner baffling systems.
- Lightly defended.
- Can only use smaller models of astromech, like the BB-series and the V-2 series.
- Both Nightshadow coating and IJ-X1 engines are highly speed dependent, meaning that in combat stealth could be less effective.
The Viper "Blackbird II" is an interceptor designed specifically around special operations units and limited fielding. While keeping the traditional layout of other Viper models that CST has made, it has some major changes. For one it lack the typical reverse engines, and features an additional cannon in the upper wing. The main firepower is provided by a trio of PC-3 Urr particle cannons and a pair of universal launchers, giving the Blackbird II a hefty amount of firepower for it's size. Along with this, it has taken on stealth characteristics like it's namesake, the Blackbird Stealth Scout. Featuring new IJ-X1 baffled ion-jets and a coat of Nightshadow, plus a pair of jammers. They allow this Viper variant to handle stealth missions if needed, and be harder to hit in general.
Despite the upsides, the interceptor isn't without it's drawbacks. The defenses are light, and while it does have an astromech slot it's use is limited. The more important concern is the limits to it's stealth. If operated too fast, or with the baffles deactivated, the Blackbird II can be spotted on scanners, as the energy signature of the engines can then be traced. Along with this the IJ-X1s have to run slower to when their baffles are on anyway, meaning in combat, or if speed is need, the stealth of these craft can be broken.
After some time, and with the use of advanced systems having to be looked more towards defense and closer to home operation, use the of the Blackbird II has shifted over time from the SJC to House Solus. While those still in the Concord are theirs if they want them, use and production has shifted the bulk of the Force to House Solus.
