Though facing little personal conflict in the moments before a kill, Malanves is by no means ruthless, killing only to meet objectives and taking no effort to guarantee suffering. Precision, in the admiral’s eyes, is key to success. Torture, punishment, destruction should only be pursued in the interest of the Eternal Empire’s continued stability. With this philosophy in mind, he controls his temper well, diligent to suppress outbursts and to mask his anger with a thick layer of professionalism.

Takodana had been the wrong place to cultivate a military mind. Perhaps its distance from Nelvaan had been too great. Perhaps its roots in jedi teachings had torn through the ever-looming influence of Imperial propaganda. Or perhaps his father had been a mere fluke of creation, a failure chosen by the universe at pure random. Speculation was pointless, of course, in the long run. The fact was simple, crystal clear in its consequences; Malanves grew up the son of a disgraced coward, The unfortunate progeny of the late Commander Jallen Lagrange.
His father before him, by some miracle of deception and luck, had weaseled his way into military service and an officer’s commission despite his soft inner-nature. For this, he paid the price in blood, in disgrace. For, on one fateful day, Jallen elected to abandon his defensive position over a crucial Imperial station.
His crew shot him dead for it.

And by the age of sixteen, no longer did he carry the gentle nature of his father, nor the man’s cowardice. Seeking the notion of power, his standing amongst the rest skyrocketed. Extremes, he made himself a part of on two fronts. Enemies saw him as their most dangerous antagonist. Allies considered him the far opposite. And while the two sides were pitted against each other, Malanves used the distraction to rise even further.

As an Ensign, Malanves’ debut assignment placed him aboard the ENS Ardent, a lowly weapons officer aboard the nimble cruiser, while under the constant supervision of an appraising group of superior officers.
For another year, their judging persisted, the ensign now secured a position as a lieutenant, tasting his first true command as the chief gunnery officer. His reputation among his subordinates only increased in the meantime. Mistakes were scarcely punished under Malanves’ command, rather, it was incompetence that brought his wrath to view. In light of that simple rule, they remained compliant, but by no means rebellious. It was only fair, however, that it all be put to the test.
The Ardent rocked, electrical conduits churning under the weight of the Sith Empire’s guns. The rest of the fleet burned alongside, in a bright flame that began to overtake the Eternal Imperial cruiser. It wasn’t long after that the command staff met their gruesome ends, the bridge unceremoniously vented into the cold vacuum.
Upon receiving the report, Malanves spent no time panicking; instead he slaved the vessel's primary controls to the gunnery deck, and from there took command. Under his direction, and after an hour of bloody fighting, the Eternal Fleet’s aggressors were reduced to ash and chrome. And in his refusal to retreat, he defied the memory of his father before him, denounced his doubts alongside.

| Strengths: -Tenacity: To defy his father's legacy was not a simple feat, for breaking free of the invisible chains required a tenacious, determined mind. Maintaining, even cultivating his attitude till the modern day, Malanves is not one to simply give up. -Heart of Plasma: Owing to his tenure within the Ardent's bustling gun decks, Malanves' aptitudes toward the coordination and operation of a plethora of cannons lead him toward success within the battles he is drawn within. | Weaknesses: -A Warrior Not of Swords: While his abilities on 3d planes devoid of the limits of air resistance are scarcely surpassed, fighting within the confines of gravity proves to be the vice admiral's most undesired prospect. -Some of You May Die. But That is a Sacrifice I am Willing to Make: Though cautious in his spilling of blood, especially amongst his subordinates, Malanves has few qualms with the use of their sacrifices. And while advantageous within battle, it commonly brings him at odds with newer, or more conservative officers. (Note. This may count as a Strength aswell.) |
