Notes: Thread will be serving as development for Improvised Designs LAAT-gunship and MAT-TE tank.

The squadron of CSAF T70 X-wings providing air support for the area pulled around to escort the Republic dropships toward the next objective, their S-foils deployed and their weapons ready for enemy ground and air targets. Alena watched them roar overhead as they swept across the city, distant explosions and firefights drowned out temporarily. Gathering herself, Alena jumped back up onto the side of Whelmer 1-1 and ordered the cordon to reform at the North end of the city block before moving out. The LAAT gunships carrying 1st Battalion's Commandos reacquired their PAX and pulled into formation behind the Republic dropships. The MAT-TE tanks would move much slower than their air forces, and as such the CSAF gunships maintained a slower pace. CSAF would arrive just behind the Republic ground forces to provide flanking support as needed. LAAT/c's were en route to airlift the MAT-TE's to the next objective in the wake of the maneuvering Republic dropships.
::Commander Lusk, we're in position behind your forces. We've plotted flanking avenues against the next objective; let me know where we're needed once you engage and we'll be able to maneuver.:: Moments later, the carrier gunships arrived and quickly secured the four MAT-TE's via their mag-lock lifters. Alena secured a short line to an anchor point on Whelmer 1-1's plating as it was pulled into the air, looking down at the city from above. Their forces were sporadically engaged by pockets of USS soldiers throughout their maneuver, which were quickly dealt with via the heavy weapons of the LAAT gunships. CSAF's ground forces maneuvered swiftly to clear these locations; their own pickup would be ensured once the hostiles were eliminated.

The people standing around the Elder's beds stepped back and walked past Kay, some of them giving her glares while others gave her a look of hope. She wasn't sure what to think. The Elder that spoke earlier spoke up again. "The battles rage on above us. The USS will fall. We have a small force down here. Coordinated, we can defeat the usurpers. But first you need to help us here."

"How?"

"We are sick. One of our sources told us that you could help. Were they wrong?"

Kay shook her head just a little, as she wasn't entirely sure what was wrong with them.

"Then come and do what we know you do best."

She looked back to the stranger who smiled and bowed his head before leaving the room. Now she was alone with them. Kay nodded as she approached the Elders. "Okay..." It had been a few years since she had dealt with poisons before. If it was too far advanced, then she could do nothing for them. But if it wasn't, then there was still hope....

How they knew about her skills, she didn't know. But she set about to work, starting with the weakest of the three. At first it was difficult as she had to try to figure out their anatomy and pinpoint the poison. Kay had no idea what poison was used or how it was administered. The easiest way was through ingestion, so she closed her eyes and concentrated on the Force, sending her own energies into the Elder and using her mind's eye to try to find the intruding poison. It took a while, but she found it and then followed the different paths that it took while it was dispersed through the body. It was weird how it clung to the Elder's cells. Kay just sat there, still and silent while she worked on breaking the poison's grip and flushing it out of his system.

Now the Kiribian capital ships made the jump to the Charros IV, appearing above and perpendicular to the main body of the USS fleet. Noses were pointed straight down at the topside of the USS ships to minimize their own silhouette while maximizing the amount of surface area they could hit. Agile interceptors would begin to pour out of the frigates and corvettes, assuming defensive formations around their carriers. With many of the USS fighters knocked out by Republic forces already in orbit, the interceptors were tasked with shooting shooting down any incoming projectiles like mobile turrets. The fighters also hung back in formation, as the Kiribian commander didn't want them to get caught in artillery fire from the Republic strike.

The Kiribian warships proceeded to pound on the the USS capital ships from afar with their long range turbo laser fire and missiles. The range gave the fast Kiribian warships ample time to maneuver as needed to avoid enemy fire, but they found the USS's attention divided in the multi-vector attack conducted by the Republic coalition.

Within the center
of the formation lay the single black ship. Aside from the burst of cronau radtion from its jump to Charros IV, it still gave off no discernible emissions of energy. However, the appropriate sensors could begin to detect intense gravity fluctuations near the craft, centered along the length of its superstructure. Dozens of large dovin basals based along the corridor of the 200 meter main guns buried within the ship were now flexing as they were being calibrated for use. At beginning of the barrels, dull red light emanated from the active Yaret-Kor brought out of stasis. They pulsed as the rocky creatures began processing ingots of dense alloys.

Inside the CIC also situated deep within the ship's superstructure, the commander had set their sights on a large USS cruiser. Its surface was a splash of intense lights as its shields were being constantly lit up by Republic and Kiribian attacks. Plugged directly into the ship's mainframe with the use of cybornetics, the commander wasn't burdened by the tedious of task of relaying her commands down the line of subordinates. She herself could simply direct the ship to take aim at the cruiser with no middleman involved.

The three Yaret-Kors now connected to the barrels belched their feed of molten metal down the barrels. During their flight, the metal was accelerated to hyper velocities by a row of dovin basals pulling them forward by a series of micro-singularities, not unlike the operation of a coil gun. They exited the barrels of streaks of white plasma fire, easily penetrating shields in a single burst. Sections of the hull where the bolts of metal plasma had struct now glowed bright red. It was probably pure hell within, as the force of several tactical warheads had just been transferred to the hull and interior of the ship as heat. It would melt apart from within, its crews incinerated.

The black ship rained another salvo of heavy plasma bolts down on the USS cruiser, causing its super structure to nearly tear in two. Eractic energy fluctuation could be detected from the damaged cruiser, indicating that a reactor overload was imminent. As its engines were compromised, nearby ships broke formation in their attempt to escape the blast radius of the ship before explosion. Some escape pods rocketed away from the ship, carrying the few remaining survivors of the protoype's devastating attack.

About a minute later, the reactor overloaded, and then the whole ship momentarily disappeared in a flash of light. When the light faded, there was just molten shrapnel and glowing particulates flying everywhere. The Kiribian warships would all shimmer as their shields stopped the shrapnel. As for the black ship, there would appear pinpricks of light over its hull as material collected in the singularities of its dovin basals was safely vented away.

At least in the case of basic starships like the USS cruiser, they didn't fare well against the power of the black ships's main guns. Yaret-Kor on their own could be pretty destructive, but when coupled with an accelerator, they became overwhelming. There were few defenses against kinetic platforms like these, so vessels with low mobility could be punished pretty handily.

With the cabin of the dropship shaking from flak going off all around them Lusk looked down at his rifle and popped out his spent clip letting it fall to the ground before slamming in a new one. He would then look around at all of his brothers and sisters who had fought with him over the course of his time in the Republic, he had been defending this nation for so long now and he was just tired now and thought there had to be more to life than this.

"Thirty seconds!!" An Isard pilot shouted back towards Lusk.

"Set us down in their perimeter! We have to fight our way to clear it before the main battalion comes through!" Lusk yelled back to the pilot.

"Roger that sir!" The ship would then dip down along with a few more and would get within the bases perimeter.

It was time to go. Another fight to win and more watching his brothers and sisters die for a cause that they were sworn into believing.

The door of the dropship opened up and blaster bolts immediately started to fly towards the cabin. A few clones up front were cut down but the rest hit the deck and made their way out of the various emergency exits until their boots were on the ground. Air forces were softening up the enemy here and there but it was their job as the shock troopers to take the enemy out from inside their perimeter while the main invasion force hit their outside.

"Siclet! Hit that E-Web!" Lusk yelled as he dove out the dropship and checked the pulse of a downed trooper. Alive but weak.

"Medic!! Dove! Over here!" Lusk yelled over to one of his medics who quickly ran over under fire to attend to their brother.

Picking up his rifle he looked over to see his brother Siclet hit the gun emplacement with a grenade blowing it and the crew manning it to pieces. Siclet have a nod and Lusk returned it as they began to rally forces and move up to attack the USS forces.

"Hit their emplacements! Pincer! Pincer!" Lusk yelled out to his men.

About a good fifty meters from their current position Lusk spotted a large artillery emplacement that was firing off rounds into the distance probably giving everyone hell. It had to go, but to get there they would have to clear trenches dug in order to approach it without being exposed, which would be a sniper's delight.

"In the trenches! Move move move!!" He yelled out to his men.

Lusk and his men would jump down into the trenches and his mind would flash back to Balmorra, where they had destroyed a company of stormtroopers and slaughtered them. They had lost that battle, but that company was decimated by their force. And today wasn't going to be any different, today they were going to win this battle.

"I'll take point Lusk! Shotgun!" the captain and brother of Lusk said with a smile beneath his helmet.

Siclet took his vortex shotgun and started to blast USS troops in the trenches to pieces as they proceeded down the line, Lusk bringing up the rear with his pulse rifle finishing off any wounded or shooting ahead without his brother being in the firing arc.

As they were clearing the trenches Lusk could look out and see the incoming battalion of clones charging their way towards them taking advantage of the gaps in fire they were providing giving them avenues to assault the encampment. They just had to keep this up and get towards the big gun. And that's what they did, they kept fighting through the fire and smoke killing man after man and burning through ammo.

"Twenty five meters!" Siclet shouted as he loaded up the shotgun with more shells.

Lusk charged forward as his brother reloaded to take point. Turning the corner the man came across the line within the trench that lead straight towards the gun and with that came an entire squad of men that looked up at him in almost shock. Not wasting any time the clone gunned them down and before he could reload he felt a stabbing pain in his side. A USS soldier caught his plate with a knife and punctured his side. He'd live but he couldn't say the same about the man who just stabbed him.

Quickly turning around Lusk elbowed the enemy trooper in the face causing him to fall back, he would then quickly attempt to raise his pulse rifle to fire but would be blocked by the man regaining their composure and striking at the rifle. Lusk cursed internally as his eyes tracked the knife and could see he was going for a throat stab.

Quickly bobbing out of the way like a boxer Lusk grabbed the man's extended arm and with a swift blow he slammed his open palm into the soldier's elbow causing a complete fracture along with pure white bone to stick out from his body. He'd then take the knife the man dropped and ram it into their face.

The man dropped over dead and Lusk let out a sigh as he picked his rifle up then looked over to Siclet who was just watching.

"What? You had it covered."

The USS fleet
was a mess of an organization at the moment. The core of their formation had been broken as ships had scattered to avoid being hit by the debris of their destroyed cruiser. All the while, they were all still subject to a hail of missile and turbolaser fire from the combined groups of the Kiribians and the Republic.

The black ship would adjust to target the fleeing capital ships as they scrambled to reform. Fire was focused on the engines to leave the ships drifting helplessly while other Kiribian warships finished up the job. The ship was able to adjust rapidly, able to tilt and pitch easily by the use of its dovin basals and internal drives.

Droid fighters were finally released from their holding pattern, deployed to picked off the smaller capital ships at the fringes of the group.

"What does it feel like?" asked the placid voice.

Ravenna kept his eyes closed, stretching his will into the life forces all around them. His consciousness flitted among the passive presence of the spikey grasses of the tiny island. He felt the slightly more aware presence of if a native caterpillar as happily chewed down on the grass. As he probed out further and further, his presence swept across a multitude of life forces, and their presences pressed back on him. Most of them seemed almost inconsequential to him, but one pressed back far harder when he focused on it. The other jedi snorted.

"I've been with you for how long now, and you're just going to sense my presence now?"

Travot's green eyes flashed open as he turned his gaze to the diminutive cerean, "Sometimes it's easily to lose things just by the sheer scale of what's a round you."

"And we are giants here," admitted the alien, "but still, as you look up into the sky and starry void...we are even less than a single grain of sand on this island's beach."

Ravenna nodded, "So is life."

"I think you are done with your meditation practice right now...are you not?"

"I am."

"Good, let us begin."

Travot furled his brow, "Begin what?"

"You asked why I wanted to come here, besides to meditate, didn't you?"

The creases on Travot's forehead became slack. He's speaking in riddles again. Why is it always in riddles? What exactly did he say then...something crazy...wasn't it? The line reverberated across his consciousness.

"And you said that it was a great place to catch some spray."

"And so it is."

"Surfing?"

"What? What does surfing have to do with the Order's training?"

"I've heard of weirder tasks...you have met old Master Peko and his pack of padawans?"

Yua ruefully shook his conical head, "I've only heard the stories. But no, this is something far more practical. I wanted to become attuned to the environment and his life energy before I thrusted you against it. Come...walk with me to the beach."

The two jedi began to stroll through the grassy waves of the island for little over a minute before Travot felt the squishiness of the beach's fine, pink sand. As curious as a sensation was to him, his eyes dwelled on the crashing waves as he realized what he was about to do. He felt some negative thoughts rise up within him, which he promptly acknowledged and began to resist. Half of a jedi's merit was not only in the mastering of arcane Force arts or some flashy lightsaber moves, but in training and steeling his mind. A facet made all the more important by where he thought the Force was going to guide him. Yua stopped and turned to him.

"We should take off some of our attire."

Travot mutely nodded as he began to strip down to his undergarments. Off went the finely woven tabard, the ornate lanvorok, his utility belt, and the rest of his other accoutrements. He felt naked without them, yet he knew that a jedi should not depend on such things. He carefully arranged them on the sand before wading into the shallow water. Instinctively he recoiled at the coldness of the water, but he quickly plodded further and deeper into the sea. The current began to lap up past his knees before Yua came to halt. The cerean pointed towards their moored watercraft.

"This world's people...they were tossed around the political seas like our boat over there..."

Travot's eyes widened. Not again...He felt a wave of amusement flow from the cerean before the knight flashed a knowing smile.

"Just kidding."

Travot's jaw slackened. I'm not sure if I should be irritated...or if I should have expected that...you never seem to know what's going to come out of his mouth...watch...next time he'll go off on one of his sermons again...A wave of water smashed into his face before it suddenly engulfed him. Instinctively he closed his eyes and felt the coolness of the water caress his sunburned skin. But that feeling of pleasure quickly turned to irritation as the currents robbed him of too much heat. He felt a tug as the water receded back to the depths, unearthing him in the process. He wiped a hand across his weathered face before he turned his gaze to Yua. He was equally drenched, but his focus was not his trainee, but on the beach. Travot turned his head to see a pair of humanoids that were shorter than his teenage cousin. At first, he might have thought that they were kids, but one had long-flowing beard and both wore rather ornate clothes. The newcomers eyed the two jedi warily. The clean shaven one reached for his holstered blaster pistol and rested his hand on it. Yua turned to him.

"We must go to them."

"They don't look that friendly...are you sure?"

Yua sent him a look that in no uncertain terms affirmed his previous stance. The cerean began to trudge through the water towards the two, causing the second Bimm to fully draw his blaster. I better go with him...combat might be the one area where I'm better than him...The two jedi waded into the water and towards the pointed barrel of the blaster.

"Stop right where you are," demanded the bimm, "and don't move any further."

While deep in her concentration, she discovered a way to flush the body of the poison. Through sweat. Wasn't that what fevers were for? To increase the body's temperature to kill viruses and flush them out with sweat while also cooling the body in the process. That had to work. Although she didn't want to give the Elder a fever, she nudged the sweat glands into action with the Force and sent the poison along for the ride.

The process took a while, though she had no concept of time. She didn't want to worry about it. The vitals of her patient were still the same as when she had started. It was better than it getting worse. Kay was very still while she worked, almost looking like a statue, though her breathing gave it away that she had life within her. The other two Elders just watched and waited.

After 15 minutes, droplets of green appeared, moistening the clothing that covered the Elder up. When she was sure that she flushed all of the poison out, Kay opened her eyes and wavered a little, as the process had drained her. "I think I need some tea...."

The Elder that she had worked on opened his eyes while the stranger that had brought Kay down to them was preparing her tea. She sat herself down in one of the chairs and watched, not really wanting to say much at the moment. One down, two to go. At least she got to the weaker one first.

A knock was heard at the door before the stranger arrived with a tray, carrying both some tea and food on it. "Well done, Lady. I have news from above that with the Republic's help, we are gaining back control of our worlds. Seeing the Elders alive and well will only encourage our people even more."

Kay drank her tea as soon as it was brought to her. The warmth of it was soothing, as always, like a warm blanket. She took a bit of the meat and started to snack on it, her eyes moving to the Elders to figure out which was next.

"We mean you no harm," said Yua softly.

"They do not seem like Sith to me," murmured the bearded one, "are you certain?"

The younger one stared hard at Yua before turning his gaze to Travot, "I do not know, but the Sith are cunning, if nothing else. They could be trying to deceive us."

"Perhaps," said the elder one, "but I think they would have shown their hand by now if they were. Tell me plainly, travelers, who are you?"

"My name is Yua, and I am a jedi knight. And this here is Travot, one of our learners. We come from the Republic."

Travot bobbed his head up and down in silent acknowledgement.

"Your people are currently fighting a war up in space, and on the ground..." noted the elder, "yet you are here, frolicking in the ocean, not there with your comrades."

Yua frowned, "A war?"

"You are unaware."

"We have been secluded from the outside for some time, I'm afraid."

"So I see," said the elder, "let us talk for a bit. Juon, you can lower your blaster. I am certain that neither of them are here to hurt us..."

When she was finished her snack, as well as her tea, Kay headed over to the Elder that spoke to her earlier. "You're next."

"I'm next? Aren't I the lucky one. Are you sure that you're up to it?"

"I think so. You're the stronger of the two, so that should help."

"Then by all means, let it begin."

She nodded and sat down at the edge of the Elder's bed, closing her eyes as she placed her hands gently over him. She tapped into the Force as she did before, and began the search for the toxins from the poison. This Elder was stronger, and so the poison wasn't quite as spread out as the other one, but they were started to attach to his organs. Kay focused on doing the same as before, nudging the sweat glands to start producing while she sent the poison along for the ride. It took less time than before, but that didn't mean that she didn't get drained from it. She was already weaker than when she had started, but at least this one was a bit easier.

When she was finished, she opened her eyes and gave herself a moment before going back to the chair and indicating that she needed more tea. "Thank goodness I don't do this every day....But it is worth it." Oh yes, it was worth it. Good deeds usually were. Two down, one more to go.

The End.
