After an incident on the planet Bardotta, Professor Nimdok received a vision in which he was told to travel to the planet Chaldea. While visiting the world, he became interested in the planet's history, which remained largely unwritten. In this book, he recounts and examines recent Chaldean history, tracing a narrative path through the Chaldean Civil War, arguably the most significant event in Chaldea's history within the past hundred years.

Timeline of Events: 850 ABY: A group of three students attending the Chaldean Academy began studying Jedi and Sith texts in secret. The group expanded, gaining more followers from among the Academy's ranks. These disciples called themselves the Children of the Force. Upon discovery, many either dropped out or were expelled from the Academy for their beliefs, which were in direct conflict with those of the Potentium. Later that year, one of the Children planted a bomb in the Academy, destroying the West Wing and killing several people. This was the inciting incident of the war, as all Children of the Force and those connected with the group were arrested. Those who managed to escape arrest fled into the wilderness, where they began to draw large crowds of Jedi, Sith, and other Force Users who had been lying dormant among the general population of Chaldea. They were also approached by political activists who resented the Potentium's power and wanted to make Chaldea a free world governed by a secular republic, like other worlds in the Core. These three groups banded together against the Potentium, and over the next few years they would participate primarily in guerilla warfare against Potentium forces, beginning with the Battle of Lakhish, a skirmish which occurred near a small village settlement. The war was bloody and vicious. Preexisting conflicts which had been simmering since the foundation of Chaldea as a colony were exasperated by the open hostilities. The Potentium sought to expel anyone who did not follow their beliefs from the planet; if they refused to leave or convert, they must die. The insurrectionists believed the Potentium and its followers were dangerous, deranged zealots who needed to be wiped out completely so that the planet could be free. Jedi who were drawn into the conflict on the side of the Children and other Force Users quickly realized they had made a mistake and retracted their aid. Sith mixed with the Children and provoked them with promises of incredible power once they had destroyed the "mad puritans" who had tried to keep the Force out of their grasp. Lurid stories abound of how it became dangerous even to travel from city to city, as the roads were fraught with both Potentium and insurrectionist forces who had taken to stopping civilians and demanding to know where their allegiances lay. If they said they followed the enemy, they could be killed on the spot. In the end, public opinion sided with the Potentium. The Children and their Sith allies utilized far more brutal tactics than their opponents. Even the secularists who allied with the Children were frequently appalled by their actions and resented the influence of the Sith among their leaders. The turning point of the war occurred in 852 ABY, when the Children of the Force and their allies occupied the coastal city of Pirivena. Much of the city had been evacuated, but the local Mer remained living in the underwater ruins. As military activity in the area increased, the Mer joined the fighting, attacking anyone who dared to venture into their waters. Most of the casualties of the Mer were insurrectionists. The Potentium quickly saw an opportunity, and they met with representatives of the Mer, agreeing to recognize Mer sovereignty in exchange for their continued assistance. The Mer continued to pick off insurrectionist forces until the occupation of Pirivena ended in early 853 ABY. The Children of the Force more or less ceased to be relevant in the conflict after this incident, leaving only the secularists and the Sith, the latter of whom suffered heavy losses from Potentium forces armed with anti-Force weaponry and technology. The secularists, under the command of a small group of remaining Sith/Children leaders, acquired a small fleet of starships and launched an orbital bombardment of the city of Mizeget, occurring simultaneously with a ground invasion of the planetary capital of Nezamiyeh. This attempt at stretching the Potentium's forces thin backfired when several secularist crewmen defied the command to fire upon the city until it was evacuated. Mizeget was only partially destroyed, Nezamiyeh was successfully defended, and the secularists were forced to retreat. |
