GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Unit Name: Chaldean Mystics
  • Affiliation: Chaldean Potentium
  • Classification: Elite Sorcerers
  • Description: Chaldean mystics are adherents of the Chaldean Potentium who choose to keep their connection to the Force, but focus all their effort on resisting or disrupting the connections of other Force Users. Despite this, they are not fully accepted by Chaldean society, being generally viewed with suspicion, and so many of them live and operate in relative isolation from the rest of the Potentium, perhaps even outside of civilization altogether. Like most Chaldeans, they wear clothing which covers up most of the body, with the most devout leaving only the face, hands, and feet visible. The more combat-oriented ones may wear armor made from dragon hide and carry weapons or special talismans, depending on personal preferences. They are often described by non-Chaldeans as striking in appearance and eccentric in behavior.
COMBAT INFORMATION:
  • Unit Size: Small
  • Unit Availability: Rare
  • Unit Experience: Elite
  • Equipment: Depending on personal need and preference, mystics may wear casual clothing, robes, or armor. Some have been known to wear light, flexible armor made from the hide of the native Chaldean dragon. A mystic who is able to use the Force effectively may likewise forego weapons, but it is more common to see them wielding vibroblades, slugthrowers, and other weaponry.
  • Combat Function:
    • Dependent on individual skills and specializations. Typically those who carry weapons will choose them based on the needs of the situation. For instance, if they are going to be fighting Jedi, Sith, or other Force Users, they will bring melee weapons that can handle clashing with a lightsaber (vibroblades or blades made from a lightsaber resistant material, such as cortosis, phrik, or songsteel), or ranged weapons that cannot be easily deflected by a lightsaber (such as slugthrowers, flamethrowers, dart guns, beamers, and stun weaponry).
    • A mystic is separated from a typical Chaldean soldier by their ability to use the Force. They are limited in the manner in which they may use it, however. The bulk of their skill is concentrated on resisting the offensive abilities of other Force Users, protecting their bodies and minds from outside influence, and on disrupting their opponents' connection to the Force, whether by making their opponent feel as if they have been cut off, or literally doing so. Because severing even one being's connection to the Force is incredibly taxing, a mystic requires a period of preparation before the process, and a period of rest afterwards. Otherwise, the mystics claim to have "perfected" the process as far as establishing an effective method of cutting off the Force, whether willingly or by force.
Strengths:
  • The Best Weapon Against the Force...: ... is the Force. Mystics use the Force against Jedi and Sith, turning their power back on them and seeking to disrupt their opponents' connection.
Weaknesses:
  • On the Outside: Mystics are often ostracized and must get used to being on their own, without support from others. For some, this may suit them just fine; for others, they may struggle with loneliness and depression.
  • Questionable Loyalty: While by nature they can be expected to follow Potentium doctrine, mystics tend to view their loyalty to organizations and individuals as much more tentative.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Originating in a society which seeks to restrict use of the Force, Chaldean mystics are a compromise. Their primary function is to sever the Force connections of willing adherents to the Chaldean Potentium, in the event that the individual cannot sever their own connection. They are also called upon to deal with exceptionally power and crafty Force Users who threaten Chaldea and her people.

Despite their value, mystics are looked upon with suspicion by the Chaldean public. It is often presumed that they were unwilling to give up the Force, an accusation which carries grave significance in Chaldean culture, implying that they are weak-willed or secretly crave sorcerous power. For this they are often ostracized. The popular image of the mystic may be similar to that of a sequestered monk or nun, a "wild" man or woman who dwells in the wilderness, or an eccentric recluse, but they are always outsiders.
