Time Stands Still

Having finished an assignment for Commenor, Jairdain was given some time off and she wanted to go home. Well, not her original home, but the place she had lived at longest since her planet had been destroyed. She was on the way to Iridonia in the ship that had been given to her by a past lover when he died. His ship was far better than her previous one and she kept it up.

She was still getting used to it and hadn't changed anything from how Karl had it. As long as it was clean, kept in order and nothing got in her way, she was fine with it. Beyond making sure everything was in order, there were nothing for her to do it. Being blind, she couldn't see what the interior looked like.

Jairdain knew about the amount of time that was needed to get from her starting location to Iridonia and went to sleep for the night. Especially since she was travelling alone, she did not go to bed weaponless. In this broad galaxy, one never knew when something might happen.

Wearing her shirt and pants, she did kick off her boots and wore her saber on her hip. She slept soundly and didn't feel anything through the Force indicating something was about to happen.

Vanessa had made arrangements with some pirates to attack a certain single ship while it was in transit. What these pirates were, in actuality, were Sith commandos, operating a false-flag operation in order to assist the Sith Lord with her acquisition of this Silver Jedi. There were several programs that Vanessa had gotten started for the Sith, based around her laboratory on Malachor. All of which were intended to play the long game.

The project in question that was being fulfilled here was simple - it was nothing more than an attempt to corrupt the Silver Jedi and break them in as Sith agents, hidden within their order and awaiting an opportunity to rise up in the name of the Dark Side against all those they knew and loved, spreading corruption like rot on a piece of lifeless meat.

A squadron of fighters - Y-Wing derivatives - entered the immediate area around Jairdain’s ship and began to fire copious quantities of ion torpedoes and ion cannon fire at it. The goal was straightforward - disable the Jedi’s ship, then smoke her out, incapacitate her, and take her and her ship to Malachor V for experimentation. She would serve as the testbed, the prototype for these infiltrators, once Vanessa was done with her.

[member="Jairdain"]

The apparent pirate attack came out of nowhere and disabled the ship of Jairdain easily. Her systems disabled, there was nothing she could do to get away. The purpose for the attack was unknown to her and she shut down her ship. Real space now surrounded her and she waited.

It would take them a few minutes to board her craft, that gave her the time she needed to put her boots and cloak on. Her ship held nothing of value, but they wouldn't know that. The ship displayed surrender and with the ion, even if she wanted to, Jairdain could not bring her weapons online.

What these pirates planned or wanted, she couldn't guess at, but time would tell on that count.

Closing her eyes, she would reach out to the pirates and their minds. Suggesting they leave, go away and forget about her, she meditated. Not having control of these guys, she couldn't know if they were trained to fight mental suggestions or not. No matter what happened, Jairdain was confident she would escape this situation and be able to continue on her way with no further harm.

[member="Vanessa Vantai"]

The pirates were Sith commandos, well-trained in the art of mental techniques, and though they felt something brushed against the back of their mind, they continued onwards as Vanessa commanded them from her shuttle. She latched atop the vessel - the Gypsy was an electronic warfare ship, so she would not be sending any distress calls - and began the process of drilling a small hole into the ship, through which knockout gas would be passed into the vessel at concentrations high enough to overwhelm the Jedi within.

Even as she did this, the shuttle began to tow the disabled ship away, the Y-Wings providing escort against any potential forthcoming threats. Once they were someplace safe, she would more securely incapacitate the Jedi and transport her to Malachor.

That was where her work would be beginning.

There was nothing Jairdain could do to prevent her ship being captured and the trained commandos moved in on her ship. The sound of gas being injected into her ship was enough of a surprise that she came out of her meditation and put a barrier up around her head. This would allow her to continue breathing fine and not be affected by the gas coming in.

What is going on?

This thought was to herself, but it wasn't kept hidden from anybody. So if Vanessa could pick up and read thoughts like that or emotions, she would sense Jairdain was clearly confused and at a loss.

Not again...

It was time for Vanessa to stall. Getting comfy as she was in her shuttle, she began to focus on the gas-filled void within the shuttle, humanoid wisps of white light seeming to step out of the smoke as they swarmed about the cabin, floating around the figure of Jairdain. Distorted echoes of a woman’s voice would resonate through the vessel, not discipherable at all - as though they were but mere fragments of a completed sentence. Vanessa’s past experience had allowed her to craft illusions far more realistic and of a more grandiose scale than this - the seeming haunting of her ship was likely going to be an effective distraction as one of the Y-Wings floated beneath her, docking underneath the ship as a pair of commandos floated outwards towards the ship’s airlock. They were able to slice the outside door open, then shut again once they were inside, the inner door opening by response. Their stun rifles were ready to engage whoever was inside, multispectrum visors allowing them to peer through the fog that filled the ship’s interior.

Meanwhile, one of the seeming wisps moved right in front of Jairdain, waving its arms frantically as though it was struggling to get her attention, the mournful actions of a being trapped in the spirit realm.

[member="Jairdain"]

If the illusions were of a visual nature, they had no effect on the focus of Jairdain. Being blind she couldn't see them. The voices she could though. The bubble would remain around her until it faced an incoming attack and she was able to focus on the voice she heard. It didn't take more than a heartbeat for her to know it wasn't a real spirit, but something else. What that something else was, she didn't know and didn't reach out.

With her ships systems out, there was no gravity keeping her to the floor or those of the people that boarded. They were likely trained to be under such conditions, she was not and floated freely.

She moved freely through the wisp in front of her, propelled by her own momentum of movement. Its struggle went unnoticed by the blind woman.

"What do you want?"

Speaking out loud, she knew her unwelcome guests would hear.

[member="Vanessa Vantai"]

The commandos swiftly moved through the almost deathlike void of Jairdain’s ship, heading to where life signs were detected - the command room. Vanessa knew she had to find a way to keep Jairdain distracted while the commandos readied themselves to stun her.

“You have come across my resting place. I am Xelthina Pierce, a former member of the Jal Shey Force Order. Thousands of years ago my ship exploded, and my spirit was lost here. I ask for an opportunity to be taken away from this place by you.”

The story was... sufficiently believable. At the least it would buy her commandos a few seconds.

[member="Jairdain"]

Capture was going to happen, but Jairdain wasn't going to allow it to happen without a struggle. The voice of the unseen and unfelt apparition spoke to the young woman, but she ignored it. She was a spirit walker and if it was real, it would have been felt. Nothing was there, not within her own form of sight or felt within the Force.

Tilting her head, she listened to the sound of the approaching men and knew one more trick to attempt before they reached her. Embracing the Force once again, she went stealth. Both on a visual spectrum and within the Force. Only something that could see body heat would find her now. Even that she could control, but chose not to stretch her focus too much.

The barrier around her head remained and now she couldn't be seen with regular vision.

"Come and find me."

[member="Vanessa Vantai"]

The commandos entered the room she was in to find... nothing. One covered the entrance to the bridge as the others grabbed their weapons - figuring that there really was only one option to “smoke out” someone hiding through stealth. With that, the rings of blue energy would go flying around the room, a full sweep shot at effectively every place they could shoot. The process of elimination was always the best one, and the stun weapons would more than likely not damage the bridge.

Well, Vanessa hoped it wouldn’t. She still wanted to at least examine Jairdain’s ship when it was all said and done. Still she searched for some sign of the individual’s presence - the Force was her only long-range means of detecting the Jedi, and her commandos did not have multispectral visors on. Not yet, anyways.

[member="Jairdain"]

Being aware there was no way for her use Tutaminis to block or intercept the stun shots from their weapons, Jairdain was able to avoid the first few wildly aimed blasts. However, the spray and pray tactic used did the trick and one of the blasts hit her. Now instead of an empty bridge, there lay in front of them the stunned form of her laying on the floor.

The shots they fired were meant for organic beings so there was no real damage done to the systems of her ship.

The commandos were quick - they were dealing with a Force-Sensitive woman and had no idea as to how much of an issue she could be were she to recover from the stun bolts quickly. One quickly grabbed the Force Containment Collar at his waist and firmly clamped it around her neck. The ixetal cilona would begin to flow into her system, slowly choking at her ability to use the Force - by the time she was brought to Circe's laboratory, she would be nothing more than an ordinary blind woman.

Malachor V, Trayus Laboratory

When [member="Jairdain"] awoke, she would find herself first of all strapped to a table. She was bound at the wrists, elbows, knees, ankles, and waist. The collar was still around her neck, dampening her Force sensitivity, and there were needles... plugged into her. Something was over her eyes too.

"Ah, good... She's finally coming to consciousness again." The voice of Vanessa would resonate throughout the laboratory. A bit of pressure would be felt on the back of Jairdain's mind - not real, physical pressure, but psychic pressure, like someone with the Force gently prodding at her mind, looking to begin the process of unlocking her secrets. "You know, it's been a lot of work to subdue you - and to prepare this little experiment."

After the stun blot hit her, time meant nothing to Jairdain. Not knowing what was happening to her, the capture went through without any further issues or troubles from her. The collar was applied and she could do nothing to prevent herself from being severed from the Force again.

Conscience started to return to her and while she was waking up, a voice came to her. A pressure was felt on her mind and a knowing little quirk came to her lips for just a moment. As the probe continued, a natural defense Jairdain had constructed when she was a child reared its head. An attack went off and it would cause whoever was probing her mind to be blinded for a few minutes.

The attack was something she had done before she ever learned of the Force so it wasn't related to it at all. Just because she was severed from the Force didn't mean she was defenseless. However, tied up like she was like, she was pretty helpless. Without the Force, she was a simple, blind human. This wasn't the first time being in this type of situation.

As she became more aware of her body, she wondered why there was something over her eyes. She was blind, they wouldn't prevent her from seeing anything. Maybe her captor didn't know that. Attempting to struggle a little, she found her hands were free, but otherwise bound from her elbows down. Not able to sit up, she laid on the table and remained silent.

Her attack would only last a few minutes and there wasn't anything she could do to escape...yet.

Vanessa recoiled back before regaining her footing. She closed her eyes and began to focus, trying to find a way to counterbalance the sudden blindness placed upon her by the mental barriers she had just rubbed up against. She slowly walked towards the table - there was a Force power for this, wasn't there? She could feel the trickles of everything around her, but nothing was clear and distinct. "Clever. Very clever. Whoever tries to break your defenses suffers your... penalties as well." She thought for a moment. "I did go through the trouble of having you weighed before preparing this experiment, you know. You'll be strained to precisely the limits your body can afford to be strained to given that you are a female human." She touched the controls gingerly, not wanting to make a mistake and letting instinct take over. "Let's see here... 130lbs... So based on standard formulae that's 5.91 pints of blood. Set the leeching mechanism to... 2.36 pints of blood."

Stepping gingerly over to the captured Force user, Vanessa smiled, a hand patting Jair's head - except she accidentally was stroking Jair's hip. "This may hurt a- Oh. This isn't your face." Her hands crawled along Jair's side and the side of the table before she was able to actually pat Jair on the head. "This may hurt a bit, but don't worry. Your survival is scientifically assured." With that, she slowly walked back over to the console and hit the button to begin the blood-draining process.

"You'll feel much better when I'm done with you."

[member="Jairdain"]

If Vanessa actually decided to look at how she was blinded, she would realize she wasn't really as blind as she thought. Yes, her vision was gone, but through the Force, she saw as Jairdain saw and emotions were on vibrant display. However, nothing would be seen in terms of writing or images. If she 'looked' at Jairdain, she would see the woman was actually rather calm and maybe even a little detached from the whole situation.

If she was empathic at all, she would feel that at the moment Jairdain was calm. She had been captive more than once now and in far worse conditions. One difference here were the words and actions of her captive.

The faceless voice said she was going to be strained to her limits and that pain was going to happen. As she spoke, the voice moved around haltingly. Patting Jairdain first on the hip until she realized it wasn't her head. Her hand then went up her body and patted her on the head.

"I feel fine. Just tied down. If the bindings were removed, I would feel much better."

Knowing it was a pointless request. She still gave it a try. Following the footsteps of her captor, she heard a button pushed and felt her blood being withdrawn. While there was nothing Jairdain could do to prevent Jessica from doing whatever she was going to do, she could make things difficult.

Focusing on her heart rate, she slowed it down. It was nothing Force related and if she was lucky the woman think she actually died. As time progressed, her heart slowed down enough, her skin grew pale and for all intents and purposes, appeared dead.

[member="Vanessa Vantai"]

Vanessa continued to wait for the machine to drain the exact amount of blood. A ding signaled that such was done. "Ah, yes... She's surviving." She waited a few minutes before the vision issues cleared - as did her ability to further perform Force Sight. When her eyes opened, she noticed the monitor. "That... that's not right." She looked Jairdain over and poked her, trying to elicit some sort of response to determine whether or not the woman was in fact biologically dead, and chose the simplest method - she acquired a reflex hammer, of the sort that children's legs were tested with. Gently bringing it over to Jairdain's left knee, she tapped it - and the leg twitched. "Okay... she's still alive. Barely. Or maybe she's playing dead, I don't know. We'll find out."

Heading back to the console, she began the mixing process - it was a nine to one ratio of Sith Poison to her blood - less than a quarter of a pint would be returning to her circulatory system, bringing with it slightly over 2 pints of Sith Poison. Once the mix of liquids had occurred, she hit the button to inject the blood-poison mixture into Jairdain through the tubes previously used before - all the while moving to take out the bag containing the Jedi's blood - she would make sure it was donated to the Sith's blood banks. Jair's body would regenerate the blood in time.

"I hope you feel alright. The injection should be finished soon."

Having had the forethought to go into this meditative state, Jairdain was totally oblivious to what Vanessa was doing to her. She was in control of her body's functions. Nothing she could do to flush this poison out of her system in this state however. The pain of it entering her body was subdued and she really didn't feel it in her current state.

How long she could remain in this meditation or trance, Jairdain had her own name for it, she did not know. Her mind registered what was happening, but her control of her body prevented it from reacting to the stimulation. The pain, if she was awake would not have been as bad as the poison Krest had given her. Her body being pushed to its limits though did finally give enough of a fight to Jairdain's control and for just a moment she came out of her meditation.

In the moment that happened, Jairdain just passed out. Due to the loss of blood earlier, the sudden pain she felt was just a shock to her system and rendered her unconscious. The amount of time she was in this state was unknown to her and the next thing she would know would be when Vanessa woke her up.

[member="Vanessa Vantai"]

Vanessa's looks of happiness turned slowly to frustration as Jairdain fell into shock. She immediately began removing the fully injected tubules that had passed the Sith Poison into the woman's body, moving to flush the system as she went over her medical chest. "Think... Ah, saline solution!" She grabbed a bag full of the sterile salt and water solution before putting it into the machine and reconnecting the injectors, feeding life-giving saline into the woman's bloodstream. "And while she's recuperating... Let's work on fixing that eyesight of yours, shall we?"

The visor in question was a nervous system stimulator. Following the concept of 'active stimulation promotes growth,' the stimulator would forcibly run an electric current through the long atrophied system connecting to the optic nerves at the back of Jairdain's unused eyes. The constant current, the flow of information to her brain, even artificially induced, would begin the process of repairing the neurons connecting her eyes to her brain - with time, at least some semblance of vision would be restored. For now, she would, were she to awaken, 'see' flashes of color as the cones and rods in her eyes were repeatedly triggered and activated, creating a drug-like haze, a whirlwind of color that would seemingly surround her.

With a quick shot of stimulant, Vanessa moved to awaken the woman. "So. I assume you must be wondering what it is you see."

[member="Jairdain"]

In her world of darkness, light started to come in. The shot of stimulant brought her awake, even though she was weak. There was a collar around her neck and the ever present Force was deprived of her still. The bindings remained, but Jairdain could turn her head just fine. It wasn't blinders over her eyes but something else.

In her mind and in front of her face, she could see at least to a degree with real visual sight. She had been granted this a few times in her life by other Force users that knew how to project vision into her mind. This wasn't the same though and she was confused.

The voice of her captor spoke again and assumed correctly. All Jairdain did was nod and even though she knew she was still strapped down, did attempt to sit up slightly. Only able to manage about six inches before being stopped, her upper torso was up and she turned her head in the direction of the voice.

"Only partially. I really want to know why I've been taken captive...again. This isn't my first time. I swear, I will rip your throat out when I get free."

This was of course, the poison speaking on the last part. Jairdain wasn't the type of person to normally seek out vengeance.

[member="Vanessa Vantai"]

"Wait, really?" Vanessa asked. "So you're telling me someone else already kidnapped you previously? Damn. I'm almost sorry for using you as a test subject now." She shrugged. "Well, given the position you'll be in soon, I might as well spell things out for you. You see, I'm currently trying to plant infiltrators within the Silver Jedi Order. Darksiders or their own corrupted members, it doesn't really matter to me. I just want to get them in there so they can rot the Silvers out from the inside. Of course the process to turn individuals into such beings is not exactly something that's been tested - so I'm testing it using you as a subject." She answered. "I'm also giving you your sight back given that the collar prevents you from using the Force. It seems fair given that your... other way of seeing is no longer in effect."

With the threat, she smiled - even laughing a bit. "You wouldn't be the first, you know. I've had dozens of people try to kill me. Some of them have actually succeeded. But dying doesn't really mean much to someone who can come back from death." She slightly increased the power to the optical stimulator. "There was that time an apprentice of mine destabilized my body and caused it to blow up. There was of course that time I got bisected. Oh, and who could forget when I got roasted alive? Fun times, that." She came over to Jairdain. "All I need in this galaxy is to stay alive and continue accomplishing what I can. Immortals have to pass the time somehow, after all."
