- Advanced targeting computer
Rapid Fire: Twin rapid fire cannons can shred enemy fighters to pieces, but experience a damage dropoff against well-defended targets.
Shrieker: The TIE Shrieker is deafeningly loud, inflicting both psychological terror and capable of rupturing unprotected ears during low passes at high speeds.
Breakneck: The TIE Shrieker is capable of almost unprecedented speed and maneuverability for a starfighter of its class, more comparable to a racing ship than a starfighter.
Advanced: To prevent the need for highly trained pilots, the TIE Shrieker comes installed with a flight assistance suite and a sophisticated targeting computer.
WEAKNESSES
Fragile: A thin hull and a lack of shields make the TIE Shrieker a very fragile fighter that can’t survive anything more than a glancing blow.
No Hyperdrive: A lack of a hyperdrive limits the interceptor’s engagement range and leaves it vulnerable should its carrier be destroyed or unavailable.
Very Loud: All that noise in-atmosphere comes at a cost, and the TIE Shrieker can seldom leverage the element of surprise.
Light Fire: A lack of concussion missiles robs the TIE of “up punch” capabilities that many other interceptors have.
DESCRIPTION
“Like cyclonic winds being forced through a narrow pipe.” - An engineer describing the sound of a TIE Shrieker.
THE TIE/L-IN or “TIE Shrieker” is a light starfighter designed with fast-strike capabilities in mind by the Eternal Union, most often for interceptor and escort roles. Though light ground assault has become a more common role due to the fighter's namesake.
It shares a lineage with both the TIE/LN superiority starfighter and the Alpha-3 Nimbus-class V-wing. The Shrieker combines the powerdrive and familiar form factor of the TIE with the unique foldable wings and rapid-fire cannons of the V-Wing. However, the Union's own philosophy is seen in the design with its advanced features, including a highly-responsive flight assistance suite and a snappy targeting computer.
Its namesake comes from the unique and deafening “shriek” produced in-atmosphere whenever the starfighter moves at high speeds. A sound which is capable of rupturing unprotected eardrums in low passes, and inflicting a terrifying psychological aura on enemy ground troops. As a result, it is often used in a terror role--conducting strafing runs at high speeds simply to confuse and frighten the enemy.
At its best, the TIE/L-IN is a light interceptor trading survivability and firepower for best-in-class flight performance and numbers to overwhelm a slower enemy.
