This Time It's Not A Fight! (Lords of the Fringe Dominion of Yalara to 175 posts)

The world of Yalara, primitive and forgotten, lies a considerable distance from Omega Protectorate space. It is the only real direction in which the Fringe can expand before running into the interests of others -- the Omega Neutral Zone, or the territorial ambitions of the Atrisian Empire. One decisive move will stake a claim that should reserve a decent amount of territory for the Fringe's expansion.

And yet, amazingly, astonishingly, this will not be much of a fight. There's too much to do. An initial survey ship has been lost, and the search and rescue effort must secure not only the pilot but his geological surveys -- which are absolutely crucial. Others will set up a base. Still others will embark on an archaeological dig. And a few, if they seek out violence, may find it necessary to kill some beasties.

But for once, this isn't about fighting.

The Chimaera dropped out of hyperspace over Yalara, along with an immense fleet.

"You have your orders. Go."

A quintet of immense Finality-class supertransports exited hyperspace along with the fleet, and began to disgorge dropships containing roughly one million people, along with their supplies, heavy equipment, and so forth. Colonists, soldiers, explorers, technicians, experts -- all of the above were crammed into the nearly five thousand small dropships.

"Lord Admiral Lussk, this is Rave Merrill. The dropships are en route. You'll have your labor force."

All Sargon felt was pain. Another scientific mission another crazy ending which lead to him bleeding. At least most of his men were alive but the ship was dead in the water, or in this particular case dead on some prairie. Switching on his suits distress beacon he knew it just be a matter of time till the Fringe showed up. If they didn't well at least he needed the hope. "Squad, lets get the surviving science boys to work setting up a camp. I want every piece of hardware off that ship and a defenses set up. We may be here for a long haul."

Spencer knew her orders of course in her hand a small rock that was found on the planet’s surface after they landed. The girl needed to flow walk to find something interesting on the planet, there had to be something. Grasping the rock, she looked at it as flecks of something reflected in the lights under the ship. Raising an eyebrow, she returned the Chimaera’s meditation room and sat down.

The Astral Horizon dropped out of hyperspace, its flanks guarded by a pair of Dominance-class Star Dreadnoughts. Lord Admiral Dranok Lussk nodded in acknowledgement as Shira Karrde issued orders over the fleet-wide com unit. Moments after his own trio of ships lurched out, hundreds of dropships surged forward alongside his fleet as they rocketed towards the plant.

"Copy that, ups. Dispatching escort crew and extra personnel at the moment." He flicked his gaze towards the bridge crew, who also nodded and sent out the orders.

Velok settled in behind Spencer, in the Chimaera's meditation room.

"It's been too long," he said, "since I got to flow-walk with you."

He'd been the one to learn from the Aing-Tii, and Spencer had learned from his student.

Their dropships merged. Rave, personally, had no command ship, certainly not anything the size of the Chrysalide-class Astral Horizon. Instead, she rode one of the dropships, along with about a million of her best friends. "Copy that, Admiral," said the alchemist. "Preparing to enter atmosphere."

The ships fanned out across the world to a number of predetermined landing sites.

Spencer smiled as she felt the Dark Master fall in behind her. It had been a bit of time since they had done this.

“It has, the last time I was weak and unable to help. We should get a bit more this time around Master Velok.”

The girl held up the rock, the piece of the planet they would use as an anchor. Looking at it, she frowned.

“There has to be something of interest here, especially since we are already planning to build a base of operations.”

Dranok sat at the nucleus of the fleet, at his tactical console in the center of his command room. His fingers tapping wildly as he dispatched orders to the various crews.

"Horizon, drop down a Prefabricated Garrison Base with the dropships. Fighters, maintain air superiority and keep an eye out for any intruders." His gaze noticed several replies of acknowledgement as the chain of command spread the orders.

The Chimaera disgorged its own dropships, as well as its solitary prefabricated base. The base would work hand in hand with @[member="Dranok Lussk"]'s prefab base in order to make the foundations of something much larger and more permanent, and the construction equipment wouldn't hurt either.

"Oh, there's a great deal of interest here. A great many things to see. It's a good thing we're working together, and in a meditation chamber, or this would be exceptionally difficult, even for one who learned from the Aing-Tii...and for his protegee."

He closed his eyes and sank into a flow-walking trance. With Spencer alongside him, he began to drift back through the planet's history.

The Lord Admiral's eyes twinkled as he caught the image of a second transport ship carrying its own base merge alongside his descending ships. Good. They both would merge together on the ground to go ahead and get the colonists somewhere safe as well as establish a military foothold. His fingers continued to micromanage the entire fleet operation.

They'd been there only a day when a scout caught the sign of ships entering the atmosphere. It was also quite obvious they were not there for a rescue mission by the number of ships coming down. The ship's beacon was simply destroyed in the crash only pieces remained of it. As such he'd been relying on suit distress beacons but their range was far smaller, and those drop ships weren't anywhere near their location. On the other hand had an entire crew of scientist at his disposal.

Walking over to their makeshift camp Sargon climbed up a small rock and looked around for a moment unimpressed at the pace of the work. "Alright I need every man who has knowledge about beacons, signals, power supplies and I need them now. We have what I presume is a friendly force out there well beyond our transponder range. What I need is a team who can put together a strong enough signal to get us off this rock."

Watching as the men mumbled amongst themselves a team of seven stepped forward. "Squad, you now have one mission. Get these men whatever they need to get a signal together. I don't care what we need to build, and I don't care if they want blood. Give it and get it going."

A small camera stuck out of a hibridium cloaking field. The Lords of the Fringe had dropped an astonishingly large fleet on this world, and seemed to be settling in for the long haul. But what could they find so interesting about it?

What did Karrde and Lussk know?

Jorus's hands closed to fists, but he kept watching the screen.

The signal was together in less time then he'd imagined. They'd used some relay what was left of the power sources and what appeared to be the tin wrappings of MREs to construct a make shit transponder. All Sargon cared about was it got him off this rock, or at least back to civilization. "Alright, start it up."

Aploeia's aleph class fighter slipped from the hangar of the Chimera and streamed for the atmosphere, skipping past the dropships already on route.

"Faster than you." she purred as she passed, entering the atmosphere.

"Apoleia to Karrde, I'm going hunting...I might stay in touch."

Rave's dropship touched down -- along with a few thousand of its closest friends -- right beside the unfolding prefab bases. Immense panels fit together just so, guns settled into place, construction machinery and crew whirred. The dropships' labor crews jumped in to lend a hand, and immense industrial command-and-control networks slotted them in with appropriate tasks. The two prefab bases began to take shape.

"Lord Admiral Lussk, we're getting a transmission from the crashed survey team. triangulating now."

The Fringe fleet continued its descent down through the thick atmosphere of the world, several dropships hitting the ground and dropping off their passengers and supplies. Thousands of colonists, engineers, and legionnaires began the construction of outposts as the transport ships containing the Prefab Bases landed at the center of the massive wave of supplies and souls.

"Karrde to Apoleia. I know where you sleep. Keep in contact, and you'll make me a happy woman. Also, you wouldn't believe the things people will earn through determined service today."

"Optio, we're receiving a signal from the Fringe. A shuttle is on the way!" The excited scientist made Sargon more annoyed then he already had been. Finally he could get to doing something useful. No more babysitting scientist that was all he knew. Of course no one ever asked him to either they just told him.
