A sharp hiss fills the circular chamber, a singular dais protruding from the floor. The room is cast in shadow, dim candles burning in small recesses around its perimeter. As you look closer, a small device sits on the pedestal. Approaching, the top of the pyramid snaps open, its triangular sides folding downward like the petals of a flower. Buzzing to life, a standard hologram image appears, the figure hooded and clad in robes. A voice greets you.

"Traveler. You search for answers about the Ren, I hold the answers you seek."

An image flashes in the hologram for a brief second, an image from the past followed by another voice, this one different.

You say you have never seen the Supreme Leader.
Yet here, he stands before you.
We are his eyes, ever watching.
We listen in his stead and where we walk, his judgement follows.
~ Unnamed Knight of Ren to his apprentice, date unknown

"What is the Order of Ren you ask... Let me tell you."

Servants of the Supreme Leader, the Knights of Ren are elite practitioners of the Dark Side of the Force, and are spread throughout both First Order space and the wider galaxy on tasks which serve the Supreme Leader and his aims. They are shrouded in mystery, but what is known is that their allegiance to the Supreme Leader is absolute. From seeking ancient knowledge to intelligence gathering, assassinations to aiding the First Order military on the battlefield, the Knights of Ren's activities are wide and varied.

For those in the First Order military, the Knights of Ren make rare but powerful allies on the battlefield, their combat expertise and use of the Force invaluable to the First Order. To the ordinary person in First Order space, not much is known about them. They are not like the Jedi whose peace-keeping presence is well known to those in the wider community. The Order of Ren is secretive, and to the average citizen they are but a whisper in the cantina, a rumor on the mouths of Stormtroopers.

Philosophy

I have forsaken the days of my arrogant youth, my selfishness is but a distant whisper. My will is no longer my own but the Supreme Leader's. My aims are no longer for power for its own sake, but power for the sake of the First Order. To establish true order and discipline in this galaxy, to achieve what the Sith never could, and the Jedi could only dream of. Peace. Real peace. And yet, the Dark Side only grows stronger within me. I do not lose anything by losing my self-absorption. No, I only feel the darkness grow stronger as I lose myself to the will of the Supreme Leader.
~ Correspondence between a Master of Ren and a Sith Lord, date unknown

The philosophy of the Order of Ren is first and foremost encapsulated by an unwavering loyalty to the Supreme Leader. This loyalty manifests itself among some Knights of Ren by a devotion that borders on worship, and for some it is indeed worship, though this is not the norm and is by no means a necessity for those who choose the path of Ren. For some it borders on fanaticism, while for others it is a cold and rational pledge of submission that seeks to further his indomitable will, an iron will that will establish law and order across the galaxy.

Whereas the Sith prize individual ambition, hunger for power and selfish greed, the Knights of Ren reject such vain notions. The Order of Ren works as one unit, one body working for the Supreme Leader, and together their power is nigh unstoppable, their convictions pure and their cause righteous. Where as the Sith derive their Dark Side powers from their own selfish lust for power, the Order of Ren derive it from their shared hatred of disorder and chaos, their desire for a united First Order to extend its iron rule across the galaxy and their submission of self to the Supreme Leader's will.

Some would mistakenly label the Knights of Ren merely as "Dark Jedi" or even Sith, but they are not lone stragglers without vision, nor indeed are they fallen Jedi. The Knights of Ren have a purpose and a distinct philosophy, first to serve the Supreme Leader, and consequently to establish an iron rule across the galaxy that will bring order and disciple, true peace. Not the individualistic and chaotic divisions of the Sith, nor the idealistic expectations and democratic intentions of the Jedi. No, both of these organizations are fatally flawed. The Order of Ren has found the true path.

The Father State

One need only look at the traditional Human family to see the natural order of society. The father leads, commands and provides for the family. The family lovingly obeys and is happy. This naturally occurring model can and should be applied to society as a whole. One powerful figure, the Supreme Leader, who watches over and directs his people.

Rather than follow the natural order of things however, there are dangerous idealists like the Jedi, who would prefer to create an artificial and senseless thing called democracy. A corrupt and morally bankrupt system, democracy is a plague on modern civilization that holds it back and prevents it from flourishing. No doubt an idea conceived from good intentions, and innocent but misinformed notions of 'equality', democracy seeks to give everyone an equal say in the running of government.

What results however, is disorder, ineffective bureaucracy, and short-sightedness. Politicians will only implement laws that will help them be re-elected a few years later, not in the long-term health of the society. Further, divisions in the Senate cause delay to important and urgent laws. The entire idea is further invalidated as corruption emerges among the elected officials themselves as mega corporations and criminal gangs simply buy off politicians to serve their own ends.

With a single strong, just, and powerful leader, society will flourish unimpeded. There will be no more bloated bureaucracy, no more ineffective and delayed law-making that only prolong people's suffering. With a strong hand will come law and order. An iron fist to smash down on crime and disorder, and bring about peace.

One Language, One Culture, One People

An idealist may dream of a multi-species society in which aliens and Humans flourish together, holding hands and working together. This, however, is a lofty and foolish goal that is never reached and only results in more crime, disorder and suffering. Aliens naturally stick to their own kind, and communities develop separated from each other. Sooner than later, tensions develop between these communities and more disorder and disunion occurs as more barriers are encountered between culture and language, and not just species. Tensions flare up and eventually violence breaks out. Distrust, discord, disharmony. These are not conducive to an orderly and peaceful galaxy.

As such, one must pursue a policy that favors one people, one language and one culture. Accusations of 'specie-ism' and 'xenophobia' are ignorant and outright defamatory, seeking to shut down the discussion with buzzwords rather than confront the issue head-on with reason and logic. It is evident that with one culture, one people, and one language, society runs better, people respect each other more, and there is less crime; Order is easier to achieve. Given that the majority of inhabitants of First Order space, and indeed of the civilized parts of the galaxy as a whole, are Human, and Humans demonstrate the most superior level of innovation, ideas and culture, it is only natural that Humans are the favored people of First Order policy.

This is not to say that aliens will be persecuted and banned from entering First Order space, or whatever it is the latest propaganda would have one believe. Rather, aliens who wish to live under First Order rule must assimilate into Imperial Human culture, speak Galactic Basic and become an upstanding and law-abiding Imperial citizen. Those aliens with the ability to serve the First Order well can achieve great things. In many cases, alien species are able to contribute in meaningful ways as long as they ascribe to the Imperial way of life.

In the case of the Knights of Ren, as they are a secretive organization that does not make public appearances, there are no restrictions on a person's species from entering. The Supreme Leader prizes merit and ability above all, and those who are worthy of a place in the Knights of Ren will receive one.

The Legendary Galactic Empire

Much of the Order's philosophy revolves around the Galactic Empire of Emperor Palpatine, and the First Order that followed afterwards. It is strongly believed that Emperor Palpatine surpassed what the Sith could ever achieve, an Empire that was not divided by the selfishness and ambitions of individual Sith but lead by a single, iron fist. Emperor Palpatine was a legendary, mythic figure who lived over 800 years ago. In some Ren circles he is even treated as a god-like figure, and worshiped as such.

The Galactic Empire represents the pinnacle of Human society, and what can be achieved by following Imperial principles. All those who would claim Imperial ideas would not work, need only be pointed to the Golden Age of the Galaxy, to the Galactic Empire and the rule of Emperor Palpatine. Crime was crushed, peace was upheld. Disorder was flushed out, and the galaxy lived in harmony and general happiness.

An Empire that spanned the galaxy. The Knights of Ren and the First Order seek to emulate the same thing, following the principle of imperialism, seeking to expand their territory to encompass the entire galaxy in the same way. While imperialist civilization is spread across the galaxy, barbaric peoples and savage cultures become tamed and those who live in squalor and filth are given the opportunity to live under the protective and caring rule of the Supreme Leader.

While many would be unwilling to admit any flaws in Emperor Palpatine's system of governance, keen Ren historians would point out just one fatal flaw of Palpatine's Empire, the desire to keep one last vestige of Sith philosophy, an apprentice; the emperor had trained Darth Vader. For all the esteem that Vader is held in by the Knights of Ren, he was blinded by selfishness as he wished to aid his son and killed the Emperor in a fit of short-sightedness. The Supreme Leader has avoided such fatal errors. There is no Rule of Two. There is only the Supreme Leader.

By Their Merits They Shall Govern

Those who are strong are the ones who are fit to rule. This is not to say that this power should be wielded with irresponsibility or selfishness. No, power must be wielded for the greater good. This power to govern cannot be wielded by the weak, by the lazy, and the incompetent. Such a thing seems unthinkable, and yet it is a sad reality in democracies, as a deceived people elect deceitful and incompetent leaders. Both in the First Order and the Knights of Ren however, it is the strong that will rise through the ranks, the strong who will survive and flourish.

While nobility often indicates a natural and hereditary strength and those of noble birth often attain high status based on their natural gifts, those of lesser status can also rise to the highest ranks of the First Order based on their individual merit and strength. Those who display strength are naturally the most trusted to be given the responsibility of ruling. Whether it be strength in combat, diplomacy, superior tactics or cunning and wisdom, the Supreme Leader values the strong. Those who commit their strength to his vision and purpose will be greatly rewarded.

Embrace The Whole Of Man

Love, passion, fear, anger, hatred. The mind is complex and beautiful, staggering in its intricacies and varied emotions. What a vibrant and colorful life to be lived! And yet, there are always those who wish to take away the things we love most. Insane zealots like the Jedi would wish to cut us off from our emotions, from the very essence of who we are. We must be detached, emotionless and inhuman. Such a demand is sickeningly unnatural and among the worst kinds of punishment. Of all the various punishments the First Order metes out to those who break the law, none can even think of cutting a sentient being off from their emotions, and their very identity.

The Knights of Ren and the First Order are proud of the Human spirit, and embrace all the varied emotions that make up the Human psyche. For those who use the Force this is even more precious, as it taps into a power that the Jedi denounce as dark and dangerous. What is known as the Dark Side of the Force is embraced and encouraged among the Knights of Ren, a powerful ally to be employed in service of the Supreme Leader. Embracing the whole of their being, with all of its emotions and thoughts, a Knight of Ren uses the Dark Side to further the Supreme Leader's aims. Unlike the Sith, who generally use the Dark Side to further their own vain ambitions and schemes, the Knights of Ren use the Dark Side to further align their goals with the Supreme Leader's, their power only growing stronger as they feel themselves sink deeper into the dark depths of the Supreme Leader's wisdom and strength.

History

"How long have the Knights of Ren been around, Master?"
"For as long as the Supreme Leader has. For time immemorial."
"I am no fool, Master. The Supreme Leader surely has not lived for more than a century."
"Who are you to preside over the Supreme Leader's life? Who are you to say how long he has lived, and count the years of his being?"
~ Conversation between an unnamed Knight of Ren and his apprentice, date unknown

Over 800 years ago, the Galactic Empire was born. Reaching heights the Sith had never imagined before, the Galactic Empire instigated a rule of order across the galaxy, an Empire that was not tarnished by in-fighting and the petty dreams and ambitions of individual Sith. It birthed a new movement altogether, a new Imperial vision of what the galaxy could truly be. Not limited by the short-sighted ambition of the Sith or the idealistic pacifism of the Jedi, the rule of Palpatine had ushered in a golden age for the galaxy, only to be brought down by an emotional apprentice, the one fatal flaw in Palpatine's system of governance.

The First Order rose out of the ashes of the Galactic Empire. The true successor of the Galactic Empire, and one that would improve upon it. The fatal flaw of the Rule of Two was removed, as Supreme Leader Snoke took the First Order and unleashed it upon the galaxy. Eventually, this First Order retreated into the Unknown Regions, though this too is shrouded in mystery, and the exact events which led to this are unknown.

The First Order's resurgence came 800 years later, as they burst onto the galactic scene once more after gathering power in the extremities of the galaxy. Whether they are the same First Order that was encountered 800 years ago is unknown, much of their inner workings kept a closely guarded secret. This time led by a Supreme Leader by the name of Sieger Ren. His relationship to Snoke is unknown, if one exists at all. With the Order of Ren by his side, his iron rule began to expand across the galaxy, his power sure, his will indomitable.

The holographic figure stops talking once more, now bowing before continuing.

"These are but a step on the path. For more knowledge you must seek out the Masters and the Knights of our Order by ascending the Path of Jagged Stones."

With a sharp fizzle the hologram shuts off and the triangular panels fold upwards, sealing the device back into a pyramid shape. Silence absconds, the scene fading before you.

Probably, I think we're also the remnant of a remnant of a remnant of the Galactic Empire.

Wouldn't the One Sith actually be the Two Sith too?

The One Sith went into hiding after the Legacy Comics, and so the creators of the faction went off of the idea that they remained in hiding throughout the Four Hundred Year Darkness and resurfaced only recently after their rival Sith sect went belly up after the Old Empire disintegrated.

I suppose the same argument could be made for the First Order, but Imperial Order sounds way better.

For any interested, there is a small group of initiates being granted the title of Disciple here: http://starwarsrp.net/topic/100226-the-ren-initiations/

This would be a great opportunity to establish yourself either as an Initiate becoming a Disciple or perhaps later on in the thread, a Disciple training at the Bastion of Ren!

(The only difference between Initiate and Disciple is primarily age. Younger boys and girls are taught at the Initiate Academy on Skye prior to their coming of age, at which point they become Disciples. Initiate is only an informal rank and is a freebie, as is Disciple. The rest must be earned per our promotion rules here: http://starwarsrp.net/topic/98742-disciple-to-knight-requirements-order-of-ren/ andthe general promotion rules of the board here: http://starwarsrp.net/page/articles.html/_/role-play-rules/ranks-promotion-r13 )
