PHASE IV
The stars flared with realspace disruption as the Valor emerged first at Timbra Ott, flanked in close escort by the Retribution, Rurik's Shield, and the Indomitable. Moments later, the Centurion, Pride of Orpheus, and the tender X-0613 arrived, their formation tight and methodical. No pomp, no broadcast. Just presence—swift and overwhelming.
The Pimbrellan League had dispatched pickets and patrol flotillas across its frontier, a half-step between sovereignty and paranoia. The arrival of Imperial recon drones had stirred the hornet's nest. Warily neutral until now, the sudden appearance of an Imperial warfleet at Timbra Ott tipped the balance.
Pimbrellan pickets - eight corvettes - responded to the recon drone's detection and arrived just before the full fleet at Timbra Ott as well. Ashin's corvette screen was still withdrawing, and no heavy ships were present. They assumed a probable Imperial scouting party.
Then the Valor arrived and the rest of the fleet.
The League's commander attempted to disengage, but the Rapax corvettes flooded the battlespace with jamming, while the Harrowers surged forward like iron-clad behemoths. Imperius ordered no quarter for the warships but restraint toward civilian infrastructure. This was to be a demonstration. Shock and awe in its purest form. Meanwhile his Destroyers were speeding up to chase and attack the withdrawing ships that seemed to belong not to the locals, pushing them away.
In less than fifteen simulated minutes, three League corvettes were disabled, their command bridges slagged. Two corvettes were annihilated in the first volley from the Retribution. The rest fled toward League space.
The Iron Empire's flag now flew over Timbra Ott unless the unknown enemy brought further reinforcements.
Meanwhile, the Iron Baron and Sword of Bastion completed their sweep of Sebiris, finding only token resistance. A local mercenary station tried to bluff compliance but had been transmitting coordinates to League forces. The Sword bombarded the station's defense grid with precision strikes, then left a burn-scarred hulk and a clear message.
They advanced into Pimbrellan space, taking a circuitous path designed to mislead sensors. The goal was not occupation, but silent compliance.
These two ships, supported by drone screens, would play the role of the enforcer while the main fleet consolidated at Timbra Ott.
Timbra Ott was not occupied in full, but a firm exclusion zone was established around its orbital stations and system relay points. Interdiction mines were deployed. The Xesh-class tender refueled the fleet in rapid succession while drone pickets were left behind to mask activity.
Imperius ordered a holobroadcast to all Pimbrellan League sectors: "
This sector lies within the sphere of Order. The Iron Empire does not seek conquest without cause—but we will not tolerate threats to stability. Stand down. Maintain distance. Or be broken."
The message was received together with the Virilus and Terminus that arrived over Dolstan.

TASK FORCE VECTIVUS — DAYARK, KATHOL REPUBLIC
Ashin kept the bulk of her forces at Dayark, and the bulk of TF Vectivus' attention on making this system as hard a target as possible. Interdiction tripwires for one, groups of small INCIS interdiction bubbles out for several light-hours, staggered to hopefully keep incoming ships from arriving simultaneously or in formation. A few S-3 scout fighters positioned near the bubbles served as traps for the enemy's blisteringly quick probes. When they got to Kathol Republic space, they might get scans before they died; the goal was to minimize that opportunity, giving the enemy less information on Ashin's assets than she now had on his. So far, the probes and the Jamillia's massive towed array showed no enemy probes inbound on the territory where she meant to make her first stand.
Her other focus in the region was ensuring the Kathol Republic's grudging support. Just a few corvettes, but also access to their commscan networks and their capital's limited planetary defenses. Dayark had a bubble shield for its capital city and some serious turbolaser assets. She kept her ships out of range of those and landed some basic troopers to keep them secure on the ground. Dayark could serve as a decent anvil to her hammer, if Imperius was willing to play that game.
TASK FORCE PLAGUEIS — DEEP SPACE BETWEEN TIMBRA OTT AND PIMBRELLAN LEAGUE
The escape from Timbra Ott cost H902 some hull integrity, three of the scout fighters, and plenty of probes both destroyed and self-destructed, a decent price for good scans.
The two corvettes and the surviving fighters rendezvoused to become Task Force Plagueis. The probes distributed through Pimbrellan space sent back a nasty picture: a pair of heavily armed light cruisers wandering around, telesponders reading
Sword of Bastion and
Iron Baron. Destroying either of them would be impossible. The only advantages TF Plagueis had were superb speed, comparable to light freighters; the good sensor data their probes had gathered throughout the region, including early-warning; their INCIS probes' short-range interdiction capability; their slim profile; and the H9's axial long-range ion cannon.
Ashin opted to set up a few INCIS tripwires along the route between Pimbrellan space and the new enemy stronghold at Timbra Ott. Each tripwire was simple enough: a pair of probes with partially overlapping interdiction fields, staggered in such a way that it might, might, might lead the two enemy ships to collide if their vectors were close enough. An S-3 fighter hovered near each tripwire to try to kill enemy probes should they come along. At extreme capital weapons range from two of the tripwires, the H9 corvettes waited to take a harassing shot with their long-range ion cannons — possibly before shields were up, prioritizing engines as targets — and move on.
The setup used every bit of TF Plagueis. There was no fat on the steak. If perfectly successful, it had a chance of preventing
Sword of Bastion and
Iron Baron from joining the main fleet for additional days or weeks if and when they decided to do so.
TASK FORCE CALYPHO — EMERGING AT ???
Navigating through Otherspace was titantically fraught. TF Calypho had a real chance of not emerging at all, let alone arriving anywhere useful.
d20
1: Destroyed.
2-3: Further delayed until next phase.
4-19: Arrive at a random system, counting along the most direct route from Exocron to Kal'Shebbol.
20: Arrive at Dayark battle-hardened and armed with major Charon weapons.
d6 (if d20 was 4 or higher)
1: Pursued into realspace by a major Charon fleet, and under extreme attack.
2: Pursued into realspace by a major Charon fleet, but so far unhurt.
3-4: Pursued by a few Charon vessels on equal terms.
5-6: Alone.
