The Beast is Rocho's version of what a lightsaber for a Trandoshan might look like. Due to a considerably superior strength when compared to most species, a weapon designed for power and reach over dexterity was his choice. It took a bit of work, and help due to his inexperience in the area, but the weapon gave Rocho pretty much exactly what he wanted.
In battle, the Beast is an excellent weapon against other lightsaber users, as the power it brings combined with his enhanced strength is often enough to break through their defenses as all their focus is on their wrist, whereas he has inertia behind the edges of his weapon. It serves much like a superior vibro-axe when it comes to fighting other melee weapons, meant to cut or break through its enemies weapons and armor if it can't cut.
There is a certain advantage it has few blaster bolts as well, as Rocho doesn't have to be nearly as accurate deflecting them away from himself because he can turn the blade so it hits the side giving him more area to reflect them with. However at the same time this makes angling the handle against multiple shots from different directions difficult to aim back.
