On Comms with Ashin Cardé Varanin Ashin Cardé Varanin Kuxirra Tano-Bonteri Kuxirra Tano-Bonteri

(OOC: I’m on holiday with just my phone to use for typing, so apologies if these next few posts from me are a little more sloppy and to the point haha)

The harbinger approached the building where Kardek was, slowing as it drew closer. Kardek activated his jet pack and, grabbing the backpack from earlier, arose into the air and landed on top of the ship near the docking hatch. “Agreed. I think we need to get some distance from this place.” He said on comms in response to Ashin’s feelings on their predicament. “I’m going to get off the surface and head out of atmo... I’m no good to anyone down here if I’m dead.”

INSIDE THE HARBINGER

As he stood on top of his ship, which was slowly skimming overtop the colony, he saw the lazer hit the perimeter of the town from Ashin’s ship. He opened the hatch and jumped down into The Harbinger, quickly making his way down and into the cockpit with Alpha. “Hey buddy.” He said as he sat down in the copilot seat. “Let’s go.”

The Harbinger was about to start its journey into space when the alarms from the scanners started going off. Ashin came across the comms...

"Kardek - get moving, get out of the perimeter or get somewhere insulated. The subsonic readings are off the chart, like a sonic fence crossed with a hard-sound gun-"

Kardek motioned for Alpha to get the ship moving. Suddenly another alarm went off. Kardek instantly knew what that meant... incoming fire. “Hit it!” He yelled. Alpha slammed the thrusters forward. The massive engines roared to life as The Harbinger blasted away from the ground. As they headed upwards, they saw Ashin’s ship get devastated by an ion cannon blast and begin to fall out of the sky. Kardek’s eyes widened, seeing the ion blasts heading down towards them. Luckily they had been closer to the surface, which meant they had more time to respond to the ion cannon than Ashin did.

“Fire flak cannon!” Kardek yelled. The projectile shot out from the ship, straight above it, and exploded into thousands of pieces of metal and debris. The ion blast that was heading for them hit the debris field, neutralizing almost half of the ion particles. The diminished ion beam streamed through and hit The Harbinger head on as it was heading upward towards it.

The vessel shook under the impact, shields were drained drastically, but luckily, they had neutralized enough of the ion particles to stop it from completely decimating the shields. The Harbinger shot through the debris field, heading straight upwards toward the enemy ship. Kardek, full of adrenaline and his arms holding tightly to the console, yelled out his final command...

“Fire!!”

Four turrets, a stream of heat-seeking missiles, and two ion cannons began to barrage the invisible object in the sky where the ion beams had originated from. It was a very impressive display of firepower from the seemingly standard light freighter. One of its best kept secrets.

"Stage two has begun!!" Sal danced a little jig on the stage as the crowd cheered. "Our daring cast of characters were eager to get it going, unable to resist the urge to press on. And who are we to deny them that chance?"

The screens all showed the actions of Ashin Cardé Varanin Ashin Cardé Varanin and Kardek Alpha as they dealt with the ion blasts from an invisible source. Ashin's ship crashed in a brilliant display of sparks and broken metal. While Kardek fought back with his own bit of firepower, one that came as a welcomed surprise to the viewing audience. "Just look at that little ship go, ladies and gentlemen!" The ion blasts hit the shields of the much larger vessel, which was momentarily decloaked while the engineers beefed up the shields. It's hangers were opened and a half dozen squadrons of TIE Fighters and Infiltrators flew out, making their way towards the Harbinger. "Uh oh! Looks like there's some trouble up there! He better look out!"

Sal then pointed down towards his feet. "And what about those below? How will they fair? The device has been activated again. The countdown has stopped early. They have awoken THEM early. If there are any survivors from the device on this second round, they'll be facing THEM. And you all want to know what THEY are, don't you? Well hold tight to your butts, ladies and gentlemen. We'll all find out....soon!"

Ashin Cardé Varanin

Couple bodies in the garden where the grass grows
Hate came on demand. She planted it in fields accustomed to its growth. She nourished it with the knowledge that today's events had set her long search back. It flowered as she contemplated the lost ship, the physical and electronic clues that had died with it - those she hadn't recorded or transposed elsewhere - and especially the contact who'd died with the rest of the settlement. Half a dozen potential paths to resurrecting Spencer, damaged or cut off entirely.

And all of that led straight into the rage and grief of Spencer's murder, the deepest source of weaponizable fury she'd ever tapped.

She brought up her rifle and sighted through the scope for a better view. Up there, Kardek's freighter was tangling with a much larger ship - it decloaked briefly - and a starfighter swarm. The spacer couldn't last long against those odds. He'd be forced to flee soon, which was for the best. Because otherwise he was about to be collateral damage.

Ashin slung the rifle over her back and raised her hands, gazing at the sky. The fabric of reality shivered. The Dark Side rushed into her. Whatever threat had premeditated the settlement massacre, it clearly didn't want witnesses. That put the big stealth ship's interests up against hers at a fundamental level: kill or be killed.

Space itself ripped and writhed into the beginnings of a yawning gulf: a Force Storm designed to shred the enemy ships and cast their carcasses across the system. Some traditions considered this the apex power of the Sith, and Ashin had rarely employed it. It required desperate need or transcendent rage. These days she had both to spare.

Far overhead, the hungry Force Storm breached realspace adjacent to the big stealth ship, its fighter swarm, and Kardek's lonely freighter.

Whoever was behind all this had a touch of the dramatic to them, clear enough. A spark of wry humor made its way through the fury: she rather hoped they appreciated the show before they died.

The droid was in shock - quite literally, as his circuits had been recovering from the electrical pulse surging through them. He had almost fried himself, right then and there. BB-610 was no stranger to deadly situations, he'd participated in space battles several times. But from something so deceptively safe as a data port? If the astromech wasn't terrified from the the multitude of dead bodies around them, he was definitely terrified now.

While he'd opted to try again, Vyn Daldoure Vyn Daldoure and Argos Xalen Argos Xalen had suggested to pry the door open with brute force. BB-610 was perfectly fine with that, as he hangs back to let his systems recover. He rolls beside Willow & Ivy Willow & Ivy , if only because there's a level of comfort from being close to them.

And then he sees the fear settle in their eyes.

Before the droid had even managed to register what happened, the twins take to their feet and run towards the elevator, through the path he'd just mapped out. It takes no time at all for BB-610 to decide what he's doing; the twins can soon hear the low whir of his rolling behind them.

The minute they arrive, BB-610 is quick to enter the elevator, optic surveying the inside panel for its data port. The astromech waits for the others to catch up to them, his data probe socketed inside with a thunk.

Obedient without question, he twists his probe. Left, right, left, left, right. The elevator's doors shut as fast as he can make them, and he detaches himself once the job is done.

' What did you see...? ' he chirps quietly, head tilted up at Willow and Ivy. The droid rolls closer to them, offering support.

The ion blasts from The Harbinger hit the shields of the ship, sending wrinkles of visible interference across them and revealing the true size of the enemy vessel. As the ship began to decloak, Kardek’s eyes widened further. It was massive. He knew his freighter was no match against it.

As soon as he saw the hangar bays begin to open, Kardek leapt out of his chair and scrambled back inside The Harbinger towards the turret access. Alpha informed him through their neural link that there were swarms of tie fighters and infiltrators that were now headed in their direction. “Switch the flak cannon over to turret control!” Kardek ordered as he settled himself into the turret seat and frantically began to activate the controls. He was still trying to figure out what in the world he was going to do... all of his options seemed to be very risky with the odds stacked heavily against him. In fact, the only option that he could confidently guarantee his own survival in was the one option that he hated to even be considering... leaving everyone behind and making the jump to hyperspace. Nevertheless, he was more than considering it.

“Alpha! Prepare to make the jump to hyperspace!” He grimaced at his own words, feeling the weight of defeat in the fact that he felt so unable to help those who were still on the surface without becoming a casualty himself. He slammed his fist against the chair and let out an enraged scream.

Suddenly Alpha informed him that there was some very strange sensor readings. It was almost like a massive storm was forming out of nowhere and it was headed right towards them and the enemy ships. Kardek quickly realized that, whatever this was, it might really help to even the odds.

Kardek changed his mind. He quickly swung the turret to face the oncoming enemy fighters, “Ok Alpha, let’s head back down to the surface!” The Harbinger began to turn, keeping its acceleration up as it began to point back downward towards the planets surface. As they began to turn, Kardek opened fire, releasing a line of flak projectiles right in front of the incoming fighters.

BAKK BAKK BAKK BAKK BAKK

The flak began to explode one by one, creating a debris field in between the enemy fighters and The Harbinger. At least a dozen of the fighters were unable to react quickly enough and were torn to shreds as they flew through the debris field.

“Ok, give me lazer cannons!” Kardek yelled as he shifted the turret seat to target the remaining fighters from behind as they began to make their approach to the planet. Kardek opened fire with the lazer cannons, spraying a steady stream towards the nearest incoming enemy vessels. The Harbinger began to skim across the surface of the planet, heading far away from the settlement.

Vyn was pointing at the slight gap in the metal door suggesting to Argos Xalen Argos Xalen they could always pry it open with a rod or sick of some sort. looking around he saw the twins using their ability, he knew that could be dangerous to them and he hated they were put in that situation, He'd rather defuse a bomb than put them in danger, turning back to the door

"I'll try and find a pol-"

He turned, watching the dread in the twin's eyes hIs instincts kicked in and without another word took off after them, in fact, he passed the two up and was a few steps ahead slipping into the elevator doors, and as soon as the three were in, he began to brute-forcing the door shut, hoping Argos would arrive in time but if not, hoping he would understand, Vyn imagined if he survived once, he could do it again.

"CLOSE IT SIX-TEN"

Vyn was worried the BB unit would short circuit again and the door was barely giving to his strength, the dead gears and motors were working against him, but he might have more levarage outside, looking back at Willow & Ivy Willow & Ivy the gears in his head were turning.
Then Looking down and placing his head against the door as he strained and mumbled
"C'mon... give damn you" trying his hardest to force the door shut, but the only sound in his mind was the door resisting

He could see outside, from there he could push it shut much easier than pulling against it, but would that be enough? Knowing BB-610 would protect the girls if he died, but he'd rather not.. he had too many questions and plans, he was still contemplating as the seconds ticked down, he didn't know how much time he had, would his second heart be enough to keep him alive if he was caught outside... in the end though he bet on BB-610 BB-610 being able to close it in time as he kept forcing the door.

Argos was about to slide into the door when Vyn offered a pole being used instead of the Lervon’s own body. That’d be better. But then the twins ran. Crap. When Force Wielders like them ran, Argos tended to follow suit. He shifted though, looking like an alien big cat. A Razor-Tail Tiger from his... his homeworld. He when they got their though....

Vyn attempted to force the door closed, and Six Ten was trying to get the twins to say what they saw. The doors wouldn’t..... The sandy being body quickly shifted around again, pushing into the doors systems before attempting to pull them together.

“Come on!” When it finally seemed to close though, he would get out of the door and look at the twins. “Are you two ok?” A genuine worry came off of him. He.... They reminded him of.... He closed his eyes as he waited for the answer.

Willow and Ivy almost watched from a distance as BB-610 BB-610 , Vyn Daldoure Vyn Daldoure and Argos Xalen Argos Xalen were quick to get in behind them and work on the door, while they tried to recover from what they saw. The twins held onto eachother, heads leaning against one another. Even Kuxirra Tano-Bonteri Kuxirra Tano-Bonteri had appeared suddenly, her arrival into the elevator not seen.

And yet all of them seemed to have eyes on the pair, most full of worry and concern. Even BB-610. It was a strange thing for the girls to have so many looking out for them at once. They weren't quite sure of what to do in response outside of answering their questions.

"W-we saw death."

"Yes, it was like an echo....but not."

"The elevator kept us safe before...We hoped that it would work again." And it did. In the nick of time the doors were shut.

"But we can't stay here. THEY are coming and THEY will find us if we don't move!"

Out in orbit the Force Storm brought on by Ashin Cardé Varanin Ashin Cardé Varanin slammed into the vessel, it's shields being useless against a Force attack. The hulls were breached as the storm tore it appart. The hangers opened as Fighters, Interceptors, dropships and escape pods did their best to try to get away from the storm's wake.

Those attacking Kardek Alpha 's vessel continiued their pursuit. Yet when it seemed that The Harbinger was going back to the surface, they stopped opening fire. Their objective was met.

Alarms rang out and they broke their pursuit to try to protect the others escaping from the Force storm.

Caught up in the Dark Side, Ashin struggled to rein in her impulses. What she wanted to was to broaden the Force Storm and eradicate the fighters, the escape pods, all of it - but she risked losing control. Force Storms were notoriously difficult that way. Palpatine had accidentally killed himself once with a Force Storm, or so Sith legends said.

So she pulled back from the brink, and the Force Storm crackled away to nothingness. Chunks of the destroyed ship began drawing lines of fire as they burned up in the atmosphere. Other pieces were now scattered across the system from the Storm's far end whipping about through realspace like a burst coolant line. She let it all go. When she opened her fists, a fingernail fell away.

She let out a shaky breath with a smile, and started walking toward the perimeter of the settlement - though she wouldn't go inside it. One of these dead bodies likely had a comlink she could pull out with telekinesis. She wanted answers, and there might be survivors again.

As the tie fighters broke off their pursuit and started heading back up, Kardek stopped firing. He looked up towards the big enemy ship and the storm cloud, and watched with a sense of awe as the ship was torn apart by the storm.

“What WAS that...” Kardek commented as the storm began to dissipate. It was one of the most beautiful yet terrifying things he had ever seen. He was fairly confident that it was not a natural phenomenon... someone had created it to destroy that ship, that much was clear.

With the threat from above now burning up in the atmosphere, The Harbinger swooped around and began to head back towards the settlement. Kardek climbed out of the turret seat and opened the exit ramp. He walked out to the edge, the landscape rushing past him below, as they approached the perimeter of the settlement and the crash sight of Ashin Cardé Varanin Ashin Cardé Varanin ’s ship. Kardek shook his head at the sight, solemnly aware that any chance of survival was slim. However... she had survived against odds earlier, so anything was possible.

Kardek squinted as he saw a small shape of what looked like someone leaving the wreckage and heading towards the settlement. “No way...” he said, laughing slightly to himself, “Who IS this woman?!” The harbinger passed by the wreckage and slowed down as it approached Ashin, finally landing just outside the perimeter of spheres. Kardek stepped off the ramp and walked towards her, Alpha not too far behind him as he shut the engines down and made his way to the planets surface as well. “Looks like you’ve seen better days...” Kardek called out towards her as he approached, trying to make a heavy situation a little lighter. He was coming to highly respect her and her resiliency. “I think I’m going to just stop asking you how the hell your still alive.”

about that time, the low and familiar rumble of sharship engines could be heard approaching. Kardek turned to see Mauve Vayern ’s ship approaching them from the settlement. Considering it was a freighter, it wasn’t likely aligned with the enemy ships from above, so Kardek gave the survivor a friendly wave as they made their approach.

Quite frankly, he was a bit overwhelmed by the sudden franticness in everyone's tones. Willow & Ivy Willow & Ivy were cowering behind him, his optic focused entirely on Vyn Daldoure Vyn Daldoure as the man tried to slam the door shut with brute strength. BB-610 wasn't a stranger to being ordered around - it was his job, after all, to be ordered around - but the panic in the man's voice coupled with the fear oozing from the twins was more than enough to set even the droid in a state of disarray.

' I'M TRYING! ' he cries out in a loud, metallic shriek, desperately twisting his data probe in sync with the line of code jittering through his systems. Come on, come on, it was just a data port, he'd done hundreds of these- but the panic was setting him off, the astromech shaking in... fear. At this point, he hadn't even cared to wait for Argos Xalen Argos Xalen ; if the creature was left outside, that was a mere second thought to him. All BB-610 was concerned with was getting the doors shut.

And after what felt like eons, after Argos had even managed to slip inside, the doors clash shut with a loud thud. BB-610 retracts his probe with a metallic sigh of relief, optic briefly shutting off as he lets the dramatic turn of events fully sink in. A series of low, mumbling binary meets the air, and the droid's head twirls to look at the twins.

For once, he does not know what to say. He had never been under the care of anybody Force sensitive, so the implications of what the twins had even said were lost upon him. That isn't to say, however, that BB-610 is completely unaware of the situation. Willow and Ivy sound terrified, and they're in a place surrounded with corpses and rigged data ports. It doesn't take a genius to know that the group are in serious danger.

Astromechs aren't programmed for emotional support. As far as his programming was concerned, BB-610's task was done. He was ordered to shut the doors, and he'd done so. But he can't help himself, as he rolls the few inches necessary to hug the twins' legs. He does not offer words of encouragement, or try and dismiss the scenario as them being okay, but he does do his best. And that's all he can ever do, really. He's but a small astromech.

So he gently nuzzles their legs, and panels on either side of his spherical body open up. BB-610's dual utility arms emerge, so they can wrap around their legs for an embrace warmed by his internal heaters. The hug is rather awkward, as his utility arms weren't designed for such a purpose. But the thought is there, and it's very evident that he loves them.

"They?" The hunter didn't like how vague that answer was. Death he could handle, a THEY usually implied something someone couldn't describe. He looked at Six Ten, Vyn, and Kuxirra, closing his eyes to think.

"We need to be ready then." His hand shifted into a blade like look for a second before he watched the door. It would come time to run eventually, so they needed to be ready before THEY came.

They began to emerge to the surface, walking in a slow and lumbering pace towards the settlement. Of course they could move a lot quicker than that, but right now that was not what they were programmed to do. Their sensors were on full blast, already tracking reading the biometrics of the survivors of the settlement. They were commiting them all to memory. Soon they'd be in their grasp.

"Monsters."

How else could Willow and Ivy describe THEM? They had encountered THEM before in Cloud City, an encounter that they'd rather forget. Dr. Veinstein Dr. Veinstein sent them and they were quite certain that he had a hand in what was happening here as well.

The twins wrapped their arms around BB-610 BB-610 as he hugged them, quite aware that he was trying to make them feel better.

"We have a few minutes to spare before we have to get out of here. We'll need a ship that works." Willow looked up at Vyn Daldoure Vyn Daldoure . He'd have to open the door again, along with Argos Xalen Argos Xalen 's help.

The twins had felt the Force Storm created by Ashin Cardé Varanin Ashin Cardé Varanin that had saved Kardek Alpha and the others. Normally it would have scared them too, but such a storm was directed away from them, so they didn't sense any danger.

“Looks like you’ve seen better days...” Kardek called out towards her as he approached, trying to make a heavy situation a little lighter. He was coming to highly respect her and her resiliency. “I think I’m going to just stop asking you how the hell your still alive.”

Ashin cracked her neck and got to checking her rifle's guts. The Dire Wolves mercs had designed the DMR for simple field maintenance. It wouldn't take long.

"That'll probably save you a good deal of time going forward," she said drily. "I did mention I was the one and only Dark Lord of the Sith when your parents were still wetting the bed?"

Ashin laughed at her own joke.

"I'm considering heading out into the wilderness on foot, putting as much distance between me and this fethed place as I can. Any chance you have a spare speeder bike?"

She broke off and looked up as Mauve Vayern's ship passed overhead - and her gaze snapped over to the near horizon. Creatures of strange proportion were coming in quantity. A knot of unease twisted in her gut. She began reassembling the DMR.

"Never mind. We might be hitting last stand territory."

He didn't like the sound of that, any kind of they was problematic in their current situation, feeling a burning in his fingertips then looking down at his nails they were bleeding from how hard he had been pulling on the door, Vyn wiped them on his pants then looked towards Kuxirra Tano-Bonteri Kuxirra Tano-Bonteri who seemed to have snuck her way in while he was having a wrestling match with metal, she clearly wasn't a threat, only They were any concerns of his

"A ship is great and all, but it won't matter if we can't get to it alive girl." The second echo had put a pep in his attitude, it was time to leave the planet to sit around and find out what happened to the people, was a waste of time, they were dead and gone, what mattered now was the living and making sure they all stayed that way.

crouching down Vyn starred towards BB-610 BB-610 "Sorry..."

This situation was definitely becoming a hassle, what was supposed to be a quick diplomatic discussion turned into a mystery and now an attack, according to what the girls just said. Vyn seemed to open the door with ease compared to how he had been struggling to close it, perhaps Argos Xalen Argos Xalen tore the gears apart when he helped Six-Ten close the doors

Vyn looked around his eyes darting up and down the hall, it was empty, which was a good sign, they still had time. Motioning towards Willow & Ivy Willow & Ivy , plus their tagalongs to start getting a move on.

"Ok, let's go." Taking off down the hall hoping the others were on his heels "Once we get down there we either need to open it fast or ill just blow a hole in the wall"

Vyn unholstered his blaster, then reached back under his satchel taking out the rifle extension, and married the two separate pieces.

Kardek shook his head with a smile, "Yeah, I'll try not to hold that whole 'dark lord of the Sith' thing against you." He rested both hands on top of the sheathed blasters as his sides, observing her as she began to field strip her rifle. "I mean, I knew you were old... just not quite that old. You don't look a day over 90." He seemed to be getting comfortable enough to engage her with light banter, especially after her 'wetting the bed' remark. However, as he continued speaking, he wondered if he might be going too far with it. "...I'd start calling you 'grandma' as a term of endearment, but something tells me you might not be down for that." His eyes drifting towards the skyline as his cybernetic implants started to alert him to something that was approaching their position.

"Never mind. We might be hitting last stand territory."

Kardek scanned the horizon as well, reaching out with his cybernetic sensors to try to get a clearer understanding on what it was that was approaching them. As he was doing this, he realized that, because Ashin was a Sith, it was most likely her who had caused the storm. "So, that storm..." He said, reaching into his pack and pulling out a pair of binoculars to get a better view of the approaching enemies, "That was you, wasn't it." He put the binoculars up to his eyes, getting a closer look at them.

Kardek felt like the best move would be to make contact with the remaining survivors, get them back out past the spheres to where The Harbinger was, and get everyone out of here as fast as possible. He decided to propose the idea to Ashin. Whatever they did, they would need to do it together. "Ashin, What do you think of us getting the remaining survivors and getting out of here? I don't want to risk flying The Harbinger inside the spheres, in case it activates again." He took a few steps closer to her, pulling the goggles off his head and running his hand through his hair before putting them back in place. "I propose that one of us stays here, creates a defense to hold back the enemy units until the other makes it back with the survivors... then we get the kriff outta here." He looked back towards the town... He knew that whoever went back inside the settlement perimeter had a great risk of getting caught in another wave from those spheres. He felt like it made the most sense for him and Alpha to stay here to fend off the invasion approaching on the horizon, simply because they knew the ship, and they could set up a decent stand using what they had on board. Also... if the worst case scenario happened and she didn't make it back out... They could still pilot the ship. The Harbinger had a series of firewalls that made it almost impossible to pilot without security access.

... But then again, the Sith would be more than capable of holding her own, proved by the insane force storm she had just created. So maybe it would be better for Kardek and Alpha to go, using their jet packs to make it quickly to the survivors. He wasn't fully sure who should stay and who should go. "I have a land speeder in the cargo hold with a heavy repeater cannon mounted on the back, as well as lots of equipment and weapons. You tell me what you think we should do."

Mauve had been so busy observing the two figures on the ground that she hadn't noticed the monsters, yet. "Jethro, take us down. I think theyre okay." Mauve figured if they were out to get her they couldve just done whatever they did to the other ships that attacked them.

The ship set down a few meters behind Ashin Cardé Varanin Ashin Cardé Varanin and Kardek Alpha. Mauve exited with her A280 blaster rifle. Thats when she noticed the monsters.

She had planned to introduce herself, but instead what came out was, "what in the world are those?" Mauve thought of the life forms the ship had picked up inside the settlement. "Oh no," she said. "We have to save them."
