SETTING INFORMATION
  • Structure Name:
  • Classification: Jedi Temple
  • Location: Alaris Prime
  • Affiliation: Silver Jedi Concord, Witches of Dathomir (Mistwalker Clan)
  • Accessibility: Public Access. The temple is open to those seeking healing or on a spiritual pilgrimage, being located within the city of Kamar Taj that led the temple's revival in recent decades. For those traveling to the temple from off-world, the nearest starport is the trading post, outside of the main commune.
  • Description: Originally a Jedi Temple dating back sometime before the High Republic Era, it had fallen into ruin and disuse by the time of the Clone Wars. Rediscovered by the Silver Jedi Concord following their migration to the Kashyyyk System, the temple was re-purposed as a refugee shelter following the invasion of Talay and the arrival of the Mistwalker Clan as refugees. Today, the temple is mostly restored, though the architecture blends the nature around it to create a living structure that is reflective of the Dathomirian belief in harmony, nature, and the spirits.

POINTS OF INTEREST
  • The Altar. At one time, this might have been the library for the temple. Today, it contains the oldest of the Mistwalker's Nightsister Bloodline Skulls, as well as the original copy of the Mistwalker's Book of Shadows. It is an open area, with a long processional leading toward where the skull looks down on the assembled Nightsisters and Nightbrothers when they gather for communal rituals or ceremonies.
  • The Shaol'ma'ka's Chambers. As the Shaol'ma'ka is both the head of the Mistwalker's religion and their government, the Altar of Mists serves as a sort of governor's palace. This area of the temple may have contained the Jedi Council spaces, as well as the Jedi Master chambers. Today, it forms the living apartment for the eldest of the Mistwalker shamans, the Nightsisters who help to care for the Shaol'ma'ka, and appropriate spaces for meetings with visiting dignitaries from the Concord, the Wookiees of Kashyyyk, or the other Clans from the Daughters of Allya.
  • Nightsister Dormitories. This section of the temple may have housed the Jedi Knights who once served their order on Alaris Prime. Today, it provides apartments for those Daughters of Allya following in their Mother's footsteps, serving the temple while furthering their understanding of magick.
  • Visiting Chambers. Small apartments that feature a meager amount of technology, though far more than found in the temple otherwise, intended for overnight stays by dignitaries from off-world meeting with the Shaol'ma'ka.
  • Nightbrother Commune. For lack of a better term, these are the servant quarters and may have been the section of the temple that housed either padawans or younglings. This part is more open and communal, with less privacy than is afforded the Nightsisters.
  • The Halls of Healing. This wing of the temple is dedicated to the Mistwalker practice of shamanistic healing, offering alternative medicines and holistic remedies for the ailing, the afflicted, or those disaffected by the cures of modern medicine or technology.
  • The Refectory. The communal dining hall, where the Mistwalker custom of the tira is observed -- that is, the communal preparation and sharing of a meal.
  • The Meditation Garden. A grotto beneath the temple proper, where a floating garden has taken shape. A place of spiritual cleansing for those Witches about to undertake on the trials.
  • The Hall of the Dead. A series of catacombs, with benches much like a museum -- and for the same purpose. The Mistwalkers come here to visit their dead, reflect on their ancestors, and even speak with the departed.
SECURITY
Medium.
Like a Jedi Temple, the Altar of Mists is both a place of worship and practice of Dathomiri shamanism. Nightsisters and Nightbrothers can be found here at all hours, studying and applying their craft for magick. Totems provided mystical wards outside and within, while an armory contained within the temple supplies lightsabers, zhaboka, duskblades, and energy bows should the need arise to defend the holy relics that are housed here, particularly the surviving Nightsister Bloodline Skulls from their native Dathomir and the original copy of the Talay Grimoire, which are the Mistwalker's most sacred and irreplaceable cultural icons. Be it mortal, spirit, or ghost, the Mistwalkers stand ever-ready to defend their temple, their home, and their cultural heritage.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Constructed during the days of the Old Republic, the Jedi Temple on Alaris Prime served the Jedi for many generations. The location fell out of use by the Jedi and had been forgotten about by the time of the Stark Hyperspace War, at which time the ruins of the temple were re-discovered by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi. It was used by Obi-Wan Kenobi during the Alaris Prime colonial war fought between the Wookiees and the Trade Federation between 39 and 36 BBY, during which time Kenobi recovered a Jedi holocron from out of the ruins.

Jedi Researchers from Coruscant planned a scholarly study of the ruins, but the expedition was put on hold by the onset of the Clone Wars. With the Great Jedi Purge, the location of the temple once again fell into obscurity. For nearly a thousand years, the ruins remained uncharted. When the Order of the Silver Jedi migrated to the Kashyyyk System in 851 ABY, they discovered the Alaris Expanse at the edge of Wookiee space. Antarian Rangers located the ruins of a Jedi Temple on the forest moon of Alaris Prime during a survey mission. Later that year, the Alaric Explanse was designated as a training area for a group of Silver Jedi trainees -- a program dubbed the Padawans Initiative.

The Padawan Initiative was replaced in 853 ABY by new approaches to training, which moved the focus of training back to the Jedi Temple on Kashyyyk. The subsequent move by the SIlver Jedi to Commenor further eclipsed any training value or purpose that the Alaris Temple might have served. That is, until 859 ABY, when the Mistwalker Clan arrived in Silver Jedi space fleeing the planetary assaults on Talay by the Vegemite Jedi Enclave and Agents of Chaos, largely in response to a military base that the Confederacy of Independent Systems had begun construction on -- rendering their longtime home a target of the many proxy wars taking place across the galaxy.

Owing to the fact that the Wookies tribal structure closely mirrored the Clan dynamics of the Mistwalkers, the Silver Jedi arrived at the idea of using Alaris Prime as a home for these asylum seekers. Kashyyyk would handle the external diplomatic affairs on their behalf, as well as manage intra-system law enforcement responsibilities, while the Mistwalker Clan would see to its own maintenance. The Silver Jedi Concord supplied food, medical care, and resources, helping the Mistwalkers to establish their farms and adapt their methods of subsistence that they had developed on Talay to the ecosystem present on Alaris Prime.

Between 860 ABY and today, the Mistwalkers undertook the reconstruction of the Jedi Temple, achieving the modern structure that was built upon the ancient ruins of the High Republic era sometime around 874 ABY.

Hello! This looks great and I'm in love with the pictures you selected! Just one small thing that I noticed before I approve this.
In Image Credit, Your third image links to the Elephant Temple source. Could you replace it with the source for the Temple picture by Magdalena Radziej?

Give me a tag when this is done and I'll be more than happy to approve!

Not sure what the glitch was there. I found that editing the link wouldn't work, so I had to remove the line, save, and then edit again before it would actually use the correct link.

It should be fixed now.
