The Padawans: Homecoming

Faction OOC thread for discussion is here.

Apologies for the crap audio on the video. My first time creating a crawl. You might have to turn it up if you want to blast the Star Wars music.

This pretty much confirmed it.

Jedi were the STUPIDEST motherkarkers in nine galaxies.

There were bad things happening all over the gorram universe and what did their illustrious grandmaster have them doing? Smelling the fething roses, that's what. How else would you describe a mission to go look at some old rocks and then ask the Neimodians to please, pretty please play nice with the Wookiees.

Bith please.

Through the narrow transparisteel view ports, the young Pantoran watched as a green dot appeared against the sea of eternal darkness. Steadily, it grew. Expanding into a glistening emerald orb as the SSV Captain Jack ferried them from Kashyyyk and into the Alaric Expanse. It was it's own mystery inside of the Kashyyyk System. A nebulous region at the edge of the system. It should have been well outside of the habitable zone... except it wasn't. A forest moon orbited a gas giant. Some environmental or atmospheric voodoo creating a terrestrial environment that might have been Endor's clone brother.

It was an easy spot to miss. In the history of the planetary system, even the Wookiees hadn't known about it for much of their spacefaring history. They'd even fought a war with the Trade Federation for the rights to colonize it, even though it was literally in the backyard of their own star system.

The Antarian Rangers had visited the moon recently. The Silver Jedi wanted to make contact with the trading post here, see the condition of the hamlet. With everything that had happened to Kashyyyk in recent years, the going sense in the sector was that pretty much all of the Wookiees attention was on reconstruction and rebuilding working on the homeworld. That meant outposts like Alaric Prime kind of fell by the wayside.

During the visit, the Rangers had picked up a blip on the scanners. It wasn't much, but it was definitely man-made. So... here they were. Grandmaster [member="Valae Kitra"] had booted them out of the temple on Kashyyyk with instructions to go forth and do good things.

...do good things?

How was any of this supposed to make them better knights?

They needed to be practicing for combat. Studying the First Order's strategy at L-49. Evaluating the effectiveness of the Mandalorian tactics at Dagobah. Not saving the gorram trees!

Feth the trees!

The First Order understood that. Did anybody think that the Knights of Ren would give a damn about some Wookiees and their trees? Feth, the Primeval would have steamrolled right over the loggers and the tree-huggers alike. [member="Zambrano the Hutt"] probably would have slaughtered the Neimodians, then burned the whole forest moon to the ground and forced the Wookiees to watch.

That's the kind of things they were dealing with. You didn't solve that kind of evil by asking people to play nice. You solved it by identifying who the leaders were and then neutralizing the threat. By whatever means necessary.

Jedi never seemed to get that.

The clouds gave way to a vast sea of leaves. The canopy of the forest blanketing the horizon. As the Captain Jack descended further, the ride became bumpy. A couple of branches were shaved off, as the transport headed for the so-called clearing that wasn't very clear, which the Rangers had marked off for them.

Outside, all the boy could see were trees and weeds. Ugh. No thanks. He was a city kid.

...not even. He was a sewer kid, from Coruscant's Undercity. This looked like deplorably too much sunshine, too much fresh air, and way, way too much outside for his tastes. This was probably just Théo's way of getting him to put down his holostation 4 and go outside to play.

As the loading ramp opened, the frame of the young Pantoran was silhouetted against the daylight coming in from outside. Something slithered along his frame, as the snake-like amphistaff reared it's head up from where it had been resting against his shoulder.

Jedi Master [member="Théodred Heavenshield"]'s padawan was different to say the least.

Quietly, the boy departed the ship to see for himself what fresh hell Grandmaster Valae had just delivered them into...

EPISODE ONE:
"HOMECOMING"
Welcome to the first thread for what (I hope) will be a series of Padawan Pack themed adventures, done in the style of [member="Jorus Merrill"]'s "Weekend Treasure Hunt" series of threads where our characters work together or in teams... and then we see where that leads us. This will be largely unmoderated, free-form storytelling (unless chit goes sideways and there's a need for moderation) Again, for any discussion, there's the OOC thread in the faction forums.

LOCATIONS OF NOTE

The Ruins [Wookieepedia Article: Jedi Temple (Alaris Prime)]
Where our transport, the Captain Jack, will be dropping us off. It's not much to look at. Break out the camping supplies. If we're going to be here for a bit, it's going to be rough. If you want anything to eat that's not a ration bar, you'll need to brush up on your trapping, hunting, or fishing.
Camp Attichitcuk [Wookieepedia Article: Attichutcuk's camp]
Our closest neighbors. A small trading post and village hamlet of Wookiees, built on the site of where legend says that a warchief named Attichutcuk led them to victory against the Trade Federation. There's a bit of a local problem with a mining consortium that the Wookiees say is illegal de-foresting and mining resources on the moon.

The Mining Consortium
A Neimodian run logging and strip mining operation that's made a home for itself in spite of Wookiee protest and objection. Claims to be legitimate, but no one on Kashyyyk knows anything about it. With all the damage and reconstruction going on with Kashyyyk from the Mandalorian invasion, however, Kashyyyk hasn't been able to spare any resources to challenge or evict the mining group. Of note, there's a lot of security around for a simple logging job...

The chance to work with other padawans was a difficult thing to pass up... really it was a fun idea and Kras was all for it as she stretched out. Her robes were a little tight but she hadn't grown she just wore them until they were. She had her bottle on her belt, the guardian robes that gleamed white silver and different shades thanks to the synthmesh and skuylar. Everything was here until the small jedi engineer placed her hammer on her hips, her saber built to fit into the hilt and conect to make the handle of the hammer longer. She was looking at it where she wanted to work with the other padawans. She looked around and was going over where she could head out. The temple might be the best place for her, as possibly the only one for engineering and for the tech division. She had more of her equipment in her field kit.

With so much weighing on her, Shika welcomed a mission on a quiet moon. The imminent battle against Sith forces, a reunion with an old friend, a fear of loss that never waivered, all this made her daily meditations even more difficult than usual. Father always said, if you want to clear a soldier's mind drop them in the wilderness with nothing but a stick. GrandMaster Kitra must have sensed as much when she asked Shika to accompany this venture. So here she was, on board SSV Captain Jack with nothing but her 2 meter Beskar Staff and a small medic pack that Master Luckless had taught her to keep, trying her best to keep her new pack out of trouble.

A trip to the jungle, a chance to lose herself in the nature of the jungle wasn't something that Asaraa was ever going to turn down. Being thrown in there along with the rest of the Padawans was only going to make it that much better, these were the people she'd spend the rest of her life working with so it was always better to get to know them, besides, they all seemed nice...she thought. The ones she'd met so far had been at least. It was actually hard for her to remain still the closer they got to the drop off point, her hands gripping her harness as she felt the Captain Jack settling down on the ground, almost bouncing out of her seat as she pulled off the harness, reaching out with the force to pull at her gear, floating it up to her back as she padded out into the sunlight, her bare toes digging into the soft earth as she closed her eyes, stretching out with her mind into the jungle as she enjoyed the feeling of the sun settling on her skin.

So, what was all this about?

The teen sat quietly, gazing out the small viewport next to her seat. She would rather have been flying a fighter right now. Her imagination conjured up the image of an A-wing escorting this transport – that’s where she should have been. The pilot girl wanted nothing more than to fly free, but for now she was trapped her with others of her rank… her Jedi rank.

Though she had come to the Silvers for more experience in flight combat, she was also here to learn more about the ways of the force – and even how to use it for herself. However, she wasn’t really interested in that sort of thing. Faye just couldn’t imagine herself running around in a pair of drab robes. Ew.

But she did have to admit that lightsabers were pretty cool. Really, who wouldn’t want to have a flashy sword? Turning a glance over her shoulder, she attempted to scope out her companions. So far, she didn’t recognize anyone. Then again, her experiences with the other members of the Silver Jedi were slim. Turning forward again with a shrug, she figured that there would be plenty of time to get to know everyone soon. She just hoped that didn’t include playing any of those silly ‘ice-breaker’ games. Ugh.

Leaves crunched underfoot.

As the young Pantoran ventured forth, the amphistaff seemed to key in on something moving in the underbrush. The snake suddenly re-positioned itself, head down, eyes intently scanning into the foliage. It's tail flickered back and forth, twitching as the biot seemed to have a sudden interest in the environment.

Then the snake took off, whipping out from around the boy's frame as it shot into the bushes like a streak of black lightning. From the sound of rustling, a chase was underway as the amphistaff hunted in the wild.

Nonplussed at having been abandoned by his pet, the boy just continued on without pause. Passing through a veritable wall of hanging moss, the blue-skinned youth found himself at the base of what looked like steps emerging from out of the forest floor. Around which, bits of marble stood out against the verdant moss now covering some of the lingering remains. "Oh, look, we found rocks!" the boy proclaimed. It was a thoroughly underwhelming discovery, at least in his opinion. "And weeds. This is sooooo wizard."

It really wasn't, which the sardonic tone heavily implied.

Were they Jedi ruins? Were they Massassi ruins? Did anyone really care? They had bigger problems to deal with. Not the least of which was, spoiler alert, setting up the gorram camp since they were gonna here a minute.

The youngling reached back to the utility belt he wore. There was a muted chirp as the boy unfolded and activated a hand hand scanner. Holding it aloft, the boy too measure of the ambient light that was trickling through the forest.

"-tt-"

The canopy was too thick. There wasn't enough sunlight getting down to the surface for one of the Sasori hard-light blinds to maintain a charge overnight. Annoying. And also more work.

This was a total drag.

There was a chirp as the boy folded the scanner, returning it to his belt. "We'll have to break out the shelters," the boy announced, turning back to the very estrogen heavy contingent he'd gotten tossed in with. Chicks to the left of him. Chicks to the right of him. Théo probably would have enjoyed this. Boo? Boo felt like no matter which way he stepped, there was going to be a gorram babysitter looking over his shoulder.

They had some old plastent modular shelter units in the Captain Jack. If they were going to start setting up base camp, looked like that's what they were going to be dealing with.

What did you learn today at Jedi camp, son? How to find rocks and pitch a gorram tent, that's what.

Wow. So helpful. Much astral.

Never Underestimate a Good Bottle of Whiskey
Jerit sat in the SSV Captain Jack. He could hardly contain his excitement. He would be with other padawans just like him. He made sure to bring some alcohol for the special occasion! The only supplies he had brought were some extra clothes, booze (lots of it), some rations, camping supplies such as rope and cloth, and a DL-18 he had aboard The Thunder Phoenix. He was sitting down with his harnesses in place over his body. His bags were resting on his two feet when the Captain Jack dropped all of the padawans off at its destination. Jerit kicked up his bag, unlocked his belts that constrained him to his seat, and walked off. His luggage made him look like a homeless man, but he came prepared. He pulled a beer bottle from his bad sneakily and drank a good portion of it.

He closed his eyes and pointed his head towards the sky, bathing in the rich yellow-orange sunlight of the jungle. It felt refreshing to him. He looked around and noticed all of the people who came onto this mission. The majority of them he could not recognize, except for [member="Asaraa Vaashe"]. He ran over to her to greet her.

"I can already tell this is going to be a blast!" A tone of jubilee took place of the padawan's voice.

He remembered venturing out in the wilderness of Lothal with his Father. Hunting animals, learning about them and setting camp. Jerit was all too excited for this little vacation from battle. He heard the youngling who seemed to be running all of this say that the entire band of people to set camp. Jerit immediately went into his bag to retrieve bundles of rope and torn tan fabric and got to work setting up his own tent. He knew there might be some shelter units somewhere on the SSV Vehicle, but Jerit wanted this to be purely made by himself.

The end result was something that may not have been tasteful to the eye of a commoner. But to the wilderness, it blended perfectly in with the foliage. The end result looked like this:

Vihe-Vaellus-LoueII.jpg

He had used sticks he found as support and tied them to the green fabric with the rope. He then tied that to a tree to use as support as well. He went under the tent and unpacked everything and set them neatly in an area in the tent. Now he sat under the cover of the fabric, and relaxed.

This is going to be fun.

Shika grabbed a shelter unit and pitched her tent between [member="Jerit Kolomor"] and [member="Asaraa Vaashe"] What Shika lacked in social experience, she made up for in a tolerance for alcohol. She smelled the familiar scent radiating from the boy and it reminded her of times she snuck off to the local Tavern with her Father's soldiers to celebrate a recent victory. With so many strong impressions in the Force it was difficult to feel any one person out.

Reggie examined the other padawans, realizing that he only knew two people on their transport. He would make sure to meet everyone here, especially since he would be most likely work with these people a good bit throughout their time. This wasn't a problem of course, Reggie was actually excited to meet everyone. He always enjoyed making new friends. This adventure was a opportunity indeed.

When they landed and departed the ship, Reggie's excitment began to grow. When they decided to break for camp, he grabbed a shelter unit and set it up quickly. He didn't have much with him. He was a simple man who didn't have many possessions, not needing a lot of things to keep him occupied. Reggie had a bag that contained things that he thought would be important for their journey here, his lightsaber on his belt, and wore his signature brown clothes and headband.

Krass was looking at the one there as she had her pack of equipment. Leaving the ship and seeing the tents being set up as she pulled out a gincho power cell and attached it to the hardlight projector. No sun to recharge no problem, use a power cell that could recycle its own energy and last in theory for near five thousand years before reaching ninety percent life. She shrugged seeing some of the others and Boo was there though as she set up the blind making it into a tent with an opening and walked in. Adjusting so there was a hardlight bed she could lay on then a seat from the memory. Oversized pillows and contours to her body before she spoke. "Human's are strange." She said it though while getting some of the meads out and starting to drink the one. Red and thick tasting like strawberries and honey. She had the rest of her equipment and could use it here for some fo the best results as she sat down with a ration pack and opened it. Jakobeast jerky, her drinks and there were some other rations to eat before checking out what the others brought with them.

Gingerly setting foot on the ground, Faye frowned at the branches and leaves crunching under her shoes. Perhaps she’d come a bit underdressed, having chosen to wear sneakers today instead of boots. Her attire was casual today, jeans, sweatshirt, and a large coat overtop. Stuffing her hands into her pockets, she walked on.

A strange buzzing sound made her pause.

Eyes widened as a flying bug flew around her, Faye let out a startled cry. Batting at the air, she started to run towards the others. “AH! It’s not in my hair!? Is it?” She ran hands through her dark strands. “IS IT?”

Luckily, there wasn’t a sign of the bug. But she had a suspicion that there were probably all sorts of creepy crawlies around this place. Maybe this was a bad idea. Dropping her backpack and supplies down at her feet, she looked around. It seemed that some of the others were already pitching tents. Thinking she should go ahead and follow suit, she started to unpack one of the shelter tents.

Glancing over towards [member="Jerit Kolomor"], she arched a judgmental brow.

“What is… that?” She said more to herself than to anyone else. “Is he really going to sleep there?”

Really, it was a sheet of fabric stretched out and tied to a tree. Faye supposed that it would keep him moderately dry if it started to rain, it didn’t seem to offer much protection… at least in her eyes.

[member="Krass Wyms"], [member="Reggie Faayare"], [member="Shika Skirata"], [member="Boo Chiyo"], [member="Asaraa Vaashe"]

"I think maybe?" Asaraa padded over to examine the tent cautiously, crouching down to peer into it before straightening and grinning at her friend. "I see you came prepared then," she let her gaze drop down to his bag before she peered cautiously up at him, "very well prepared."

The Togruta slipped her own bag off her shoulder, stretching her hands above her head as she worked the kinks out of her back as her own tent drifted up from the confines of the duffel bag she'd brought with her. The Torgruta had drawn a set of camping gear from the Ranger's inventory the tent unfolding into a basic pyramid of canvas. She was actually really proud of her handiwork...until she looked over at [member="Krass Wyms"], noticing the hard light shelter that she'd built. Still, sleeping out under the stars in the middle of the wilderness, that actually sounded like a lot of fun. Unlike several of her peers Asaraa had always felt more at home in the wild than in a city, the jungle much closer to her natural environment.

"So, I guess this is base camp then?"

Shika busied herself making small traps around the campsite with sticks and twine. Fresh meat cooked over an open fire was much more appealing than a ration cube for supper. Hopefully her contribution would help strengthen the bonds she would develop with her fellow Padawans. Shika took one more lap around their campsite checking her primitive creations and collecting firewood. Satisfied with her work and her arms full of tinder, Shika returned to her pack. On her way to drop off her haul she caught sight of the young Togruta, she felt at ease in this wilderness just as Shika did.

Shika solidified her nerves for her first introduction, "I was going start building a fire, a hot meal to bring everyone together. I'm Shika by the way."

Figures. The Khazund-Daran was packing a miniature arc reactor. These Jedi engineers were useful in so far as what they made was practical, but there was simply no way of knowing just what prototypes or potential disasters the dwarven woman might have dragged with her into this wilderness. But, the hard-light constructs would make configuring some structures for the base camp easier. There was that.

"So, I guess this is base camp then?"

"This is base ca--" the boy began, only to freeze as he turned to look at who'd spoken.

Nobody said anything about a Togruta being on this trip.

This was a total drag. He probably should have noticed her on the transport ship here, except the boy had hopped into the first empty seat, donned headphones, and drowned everyone out while he played his HoloBoy Advanced the whole trip out to the Alaric Expanse.

It was like being slapped in the face by every mistake he'd ever made, and then backhanded by the guilt.

He promptly put some distance between them.

One the girls, Shika, offered to cook. That was a welcome bit of news. Not that he hadn't subsided on ration bars before. Those got rough after awhile. "I'm Boo," the Pantoran replied.

"We'll stay here tonight, then some of us should check out the Wookiee camp in the morning," the boy opined aloud.

He was rather precocious for a youngling.

Looking over at the Khazund-Daran woman, the boy asked, "You bring anything to analyze the rocks with?"

Krass looked up at the mention of her tent and a few things. She had the scanners and everything needed while moving out of her tent and pulling the small brazier from the field kit. "Yes I do, rock and mineral scanner, zoological analysis and even artifact and equipment database." She had a number of other things, the field kit was packed with whatever one needed when she pulled some fo the strips of jakobeast bacon and the brazier was hot but you could see it and feel it. Touching it the glass didn't burn your hand as she was sitting the strips on it and allowed the smells of the cooking meat to come with a sizzle. Pouring a little of the mead on it for flavor and then salt. "Grandmaster Crieff supported and gave the tech division and artisan's a lot more care. Let us create a number of beneficial equipment." She looked up and at the togruta who didn't seem to have covering nor did another both whom she didn't really know. "If you need it, I can make more space or there is the brazier, it won't cause a wildfire if unattended and can generate enough heat to keep several people warm around it." THe others were making tents she thought but they seemed bare and sitting there she stretched her arms out looking at Boo. "I'll check the temple in the morning. If anyone wants to come with."

Reggie turned his attention to the conversation, waiting to see if there was anything he could do to help. When the boy who seemed to be leading the group answered Asaraa, the young one seemed to freeze when he turned to face her. What was up with that? He decided to push it out of his mind, focusing on what else was going on. One of the girls, who's name seemed to be Shika, took up the role of cook it seemed. He also found out that the boy's name was Boo. Two names down, a few more to go.

One of the Padawans took up the mantle of checking the temple in the morning and offered others to join her. This was something that Reggie could.

"I'll join you if you're fine with that."

Reggie smiled while saying this, trying to be friendly as he always is.

The Pantoran's reaction wasn't lost on Asaraa, the way he almost seemed to scamper away from her, escaping to the other side of the camp. The young Togruta's brow furrowed as she turned her blue eyes on him for a moment, confusion clouding her eyes before she looked away transferring her gaze to Reggie. She wasn't sure that she'd ever met that boy umm Boo before, let alone done anything to him that would result in his being that put out by her. For a moment she looked back at him before shaking her head,

Taking a deep breath she focused on the other for now, "Well if you guys are headed in to explore the ruins then I guess I'll go the other way and head over to meet up with the Wookie village, see what we can find there."

Jerit laid under his tent. He could see the woman look at him strangely. He closed his eyes, put his hands behind his head, and spoke to [member="Faye Demos"].

"If you don't like it, then look away. This tent might not seem much, but it helps me become more like the environment around me. Plus, it's much better than those modular shelter units everyone is setting up."

Other than that encounter, He felt very relaxed and loved the gentle green grass touching his back, making a natural bed for the boy. He looked up when he heard the Pantoran speak to the group. Wookie Village? That sounded like fun! The padawan was very fond of the Wookie people. They were fearless warriors and great friends who are full of honor and respect. Jerit got up from his laying position, twisted around the tree and stood just outside of his tent. He talked to the Pantoran and anyone else who might have wanted to go to the Wookie Village.

"I can check out the Wookie village in the morning with Asaraa."

He went back into his tent to lay back into the grass. He closed his eyes and reached out with the force to sense the living things in the forest.

Krass and Reggie were headed to the temple.

Good. He could trust a Khazund-Daran to find her way around some rocks. That left gathering intelligence to him, which was where the Wookiee village came in. "I'll go..."

Right as he started talking, the Togruta spoke up and declared her intentions.

She was headed for the village.

"...the temple sounds good," Boo opined, shifting his thought process completely with that added piece of information. "I'll, uh, join you and Reggie," the Pantoran uttered finally.

Better to be bored to death looking at rocks covered with weeds than haunted by the image of Assak Tey every time he turned his head.

"Beew cakanle Sargon baa me'soh baesa."

The day started early for the Primeval. First prayers were said to coincide with sunrise, if the adherent was on a planet or other celestial object that experienced such a solar event. And there were rituals and things to prepare before one committed themselves to the prayers. So the boy had slipped out of his shelter before the first light had kissed this part of the dark wood, retreating to just inside the treeline. Still in full sight of the camp, but hopefully far enough away that most would be oblivious to his having moved through the camp.

In many respects, the Primeval religion agreed with everything [member="Jerit Kolomor"] had expressed. Their temples were open to the environment. Their shrines were placed next to forces of nature. When one communed, they did so as close to the elements as they could get.

"Mah kon bk'haoo."

The language was a dialect of Huttese. One of the oldest of the living languages still spoken in the galaxy today, many of the Primeval's most sacred and oldest holy texts were passed down to them from bindings of loub-paper that had been inscribed in the Hutt tongue. As he spoke, the boy pulled on a chain of prayer beads.

After he had finished his religious obligation, the small Pantoran returned to the camp as the first light was taking the edge of the darkness.

As had become his custom, since he was up and awake anyway, the boy began to pull together the supplies and foodstuff that they would need for breakfast. A meal before parting, as a team was headed for the village while the survey team looked around the ruins of that had been found here.

Krass looked at the others and raised an eyebrow at how Boo was acting but then she went back to her bottles of mead and sat there with her bacon. "Well alright then." She didn't really laugh and join in the other conversations or whatever there was. These were strange people and she did miss her master when she finished one of the bottles and then another and another leaning back into the hardlight bed with the warm feeling of the hologram at her back and the tent all around her. Getting up in the morning was easier as she listened to Boo and walked over to him. It was morning that meant a few things like the first morning scratch. "Oh that feels good, so how are you doing Boo?" She was curious and stood in the guard armor seeing all of them. Flexible and made for moving around with the jet pack and boosters so she could run but also power armor and loaded with sensors and weapons to defend. She opted for it with a possible risk of exploring. "Alright ready to go."
