OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Snazzy new substance that extends the range of telepathy.
  • Image Source: Fibrous Malachite by Adrien Lambert
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: Itsu'Dvasi
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
PHYSICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Synthetic Crystal
  • Weight: Very Light
  • Colour: Teal
  • Resistances:
    • Plasmatic and Energy Weapons: Average
    • Lightsabers and Disruptors: Very Low
    • Kinetic Weapons: Very Low
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • The rather unusual properties of the unique crystalline structures that make up Telecrystalline allows it to serve as a "relay" or "conduit" for telepathy, both the Force ability and its natural counterparts.
    • "Telepathic Conduit": Individuals or entities near or in contact with Telecrystalline can extend any telepathic abilities they might possess through networks of the material as if they themselves were present in its space, i.e., if a ten-kilometre long dreadnought is interlaced with Telepathic Conduits, a telepath at its front should be able to communicate with one at its back as if they were right next to each other. Any interruptions in the conduits will, of course, damage or even nullify altogether this advantage, depending on its severity.
    • "Telepathic Relay": A more sophisticated use of Telecrystalline has it used in the construction of special relays designed to bolster a telepath's range, e.g., in the hopes of avoiding jamming or surveillance. The inherent limitations of telepathy mean that using this to extend one's range beyond a single system is currently believed to be unfeasible. (OOC: Interstellar use would require another submission which would, of course, need to stand on its own legs as far as balance is concerned.)
STRENGTHS
  • Telepathic Relay: Telecrystalline has the unique ability to extend the range of telepathic abilities, most commonly in order to function as "conduits" or "relays", i.e., extending telepathy through a network or bolstering its range; in either case, an actual telepath is required.
WEAKNESSES
  • Open Conduit: As is the case for most materials, Telecrystalline lacks any sort of awareness and thus cannot distinguish between authorised users and that very angry looking Jedi who just kicked in your door. Get better security, schmuck.
  • Smashable: The average humanoid should have little problem shattering telecrystalline by, say, hitting it with a metal shovel - and you can forget about its fine crystalline structures surviving contact with a vibroweapon or the like.
DESCRIPTION
Developed alongside the sentient beings that were the Itsu'Dvasi yet possessing not the faintest shred of inherent intellect, Telecrystalline is an unusual construct whose one and only purpose is to relay telepathic messages and the like; unlike metals, the material cannot simply be melted, forged, or nailed down - rather, it must be "grown" in its destination location, a process which, while hardly fast, does not require an Alchemist.

While originally intended for the Sith Empire (and, in a less public role, the Primyn Group), the material, alongside several other Primyn projects, can supposedly be purchased through obscure
CryptNet channels, or so the rumours go.
