    TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

    • Armament:

      With Missiles Loaded
      Very High

By itself, the "Can Opener" Rotary Laser Cannon grants this starfighter enough destructive output to contend with a fully-loaded X-wing with 4 heavy lasers and twin torpedo launchers. On top of that, add a missile compliment, and the Tal'koth Starfighter can achieve a VERY HIGH rate of damage.

This rotary cannon has immense recoil, which is hard to control. The Dorneans compensate for this by equipping this ship with four extremely powerful Triple "T" Muscle Motors. These engines have more than enough low-end thrust power to overcome and mitigate the recoil of this massive cannon.

X4 Externally Mounted Large-Rated Missile Hardpoints
      IMG-3235.png
Each missile hardpoint is capable of housing just one LARGE missile each, giving the Tal'koth Starfighter four missiles total in combat. These hardpoints can support the following missiles, but are not limited to:

    • Defenses:
      Low

      Shields & Armor
      IMG-3257.png
      • Hull: Due to a specialized Titanium pressure hull, this fighter sacrifices some durability in exchange for extreme aquatic submersion capabilities. The hull design is specifically designed to be able to dive in-and-out of bodies of water as quickly as an airspeeder could dive into a cloud.
      • Shields: To further avoid interference with the integrity of the pressure hull, a low-key Z-9 shield generator (in red) was installed to provide a little extra protection. As a result, the Tal'koth Starfighter's durability is comparable to the RZ-1 A-wing.
        • Shields are readily boostable with the on-board Inertial Dampeners for dealing with things like dovin basals.

      Countermeasures
      IMG-3255.png

A FAE/S-03 Inclusive Countermeasure Module is installed in the aft section of the starfighter to give it a definitive edge in dogfighting. If the pilot is a Dornean—or another sonar capable race—the interface will connect directly to the pilot's ear clickers. When this module is fully loaded, the Tal'koth comes into battle with the following consumables:
In addition to the FAE countermeasure suite, a reasonably modern ECM system is installed to contend with most modern targeting systems.

Integrated combat de-ionizers are also installed throughout the design to assist with resisting ION cannon or EMP attacks.

    • Squadron Count:
      Average | 12 fighters
      IMG-3258.jpg

(Yeah, I know the image shows 16, but AI wanted to be moody about this one…)

    • Maneuverability Rating:
      Very High
      IMG-3261.png
Like most starfighters, the Tal'koth utilizes mechanisms such as Attitude thrusters and Etheric rudders for maneuvering. However, the Triple "T" Muscle Motors have a bad habit of resisting tight turns and sudden vector changes. To coax more maneuverability out of their premier starfighter, the Dorneans had to dig deep and think outside the box.

First, they added Dornean Inconel layers under the control surfaces (in red) on the wings and fins. This allows the starfighter to use the drag of ambient tachyons in space in much the same way a regular aircraft uses atmospheric drag to maneuver. The next thing they did was divide up the four engines between frontward set-and rearward-set positions (in blue). This allowed for thrust vectoring to occure on two leverage planes rather than just one plane at the back. This "dual-plane" thrust vectoring, combined with the tachyon-drag control surfaces, actually ended up overcompensating for the sluggish nature of the Triple "T" Muscle Motors, giving the Tal'koth unprecedented maneuverability in combat.

    • Speed Rating:

      Using Missiles As Boosters
      Very High
(Note: when in flight, the engines sound like a highly modulated whale song)
      IMG-3263.png

      Propulsion Systems
      • x4 Triple "T" Muscle Motors for flying in space, atmosphere, and water
        • Note: the Tal'koth can fly in-and-out of bodies of water as easily as flying through clouds.
        • Note: the Dorneans did their best to coax more speed out of these engines, but at their limit, they could only get an average performance rating.
        • Note: the engines may not have a lot of high-end speed, but they reportedly have enough towing power to rip the tractor beam off a proper star destroyer.
      • Repulsorlifts are used for low altitude flying or VTOL.
      • When desperate for more speed, the externally mounted missiles can be retasked to behave as auxiliary thrusters. This, of course, drastically reduces the effective range of the missiles, and this feature is lost once all missiles are spent.

    STANDARD FEATURES

    • Amenities
Safety: While the fighter itself is relatively lacking in durability, the cockpit is specifically designed with a conscientious eye towards pilot safety. Incidentally, it is commonplace for pilots to survive after getting shot down or crippled.
      Storage/Passenger Accommodation:
      IMG-3281.png

      IMG-3283.png
There are two main compartments for holding cargo/passengers on a Tal'koth Starfighter. Combined, these compartments can hold a combined total of 270 kg of cargo.
      1. The Back Seat: First, as shown in the top image, there is a convenient storage space inside the cockpit behind the pilot's seat. In the case where this fighter is configured into a two-seater trainer, this storage space is replaced by a second Ejection seat. Otherwise, this storage space is usually good for up to 120 kg.
      2. The Trunk: In the second image shows an underbelly cargo hold with extravehicular access doors. This hold can safely carry up to 150 kg of cargo. In a bout of twisted judgement, the trunk is also designed with a life support module for hauling "non-consenting" passengers. The door locks from the outside…

    • Avionics
      IMG-3300.png
Navigation: since many dorneans are returning expatriates from the Nomadic People's Coalition, many had ample experience with working on the old DZA starfighters that were used at the time. Therefore, when it came time to select an avionics package, the old NH-7 flight control (in red) and AN/AQ-184 Landing System (in blue) combination was selected for its familiarity.

    • Power Plants
      IMG-3286.png
As shown in the image above, there are two specialized Dornean tibannalene reactors, located just in front of the rear engines. The design of these reactors was largely informed by Dornean tibanna experiments with their motors, energy weapons, and ordnance warheads. In essence, tibanna gas is fed into the Inconel turbine chamber, which is then infused with tachyons. The tachyons are then decelerated by gravity refraction modules in order to excite them. The excitation of tachyons is infused into the resident Tibanna gas, causing a reaction that turns it into tibannalene. This energy source is highly stable and "slow burning", which makes it reasonably resistant to EMP/ION disruption.

    • Communications
      IMG-3306.png
Seeing as how many Dornean techs are familiar with the DZA starfighters, the AFIRS-397 Flight Communications Module was selected for its familiarity. A Laser Comm Array is added as well as comms booster to increase range and jamming resistance.

    • Water Landing

      IMG-3297.jpg

In addition to standard deck-style landing gear, this ship is also designed to comfortably land on water and float.

    • Tibanna Gas Tanks
      IMG-3309.png
The Tal'koth Starfighter uses a lot of tibanna to run all of its systems. To sustain these systems for the duration of a long engagement, two massive fuel tanks that flank the cockpit are installed inside the fuselage.

    STRENGTHS / WEAKNESSES

    • Mowing down daisies
This fighter is primarily designed to be able to routinely defeat immensely numerically superior foes. These weapons systems tend to have very little difficulty erasing entire swaths of evasive targets at a time thanks to this ship's superior maneuverability and targeting capabilities.

      Situational Awareness
The Tal'koth has highly sophisticated sensors which offer incredible resolution, range, and deep scan penetration. When the pilot is using ear clickers, these sensors feed 360° data to the pilot, giving him/her total combat awareness. If the pilot is not wearing ear clickers, another UI or HUD is sufficient.

      In The Goo
This fighter is versatile enough to navigate any three-dimensional theatre, from the void of space, to the tempest of atmospheric flight, to the gloom of the deep sea.

      Just Don't Get Hit
Despite the lacking durability of these fighters, they are particularly difficult to hit in a proper dogfight thanks to their maneuvering capabilities and comprehensive countermeasures.

      Strike Capabilities
The sensors and weapons are highly capable of supporting ground strike missions, close air support, and large structure demolition missions. Despite their lack of durability, these starfighters can hit pretty hard under the right circumstances.

    • Exposed Missiles
The missile racks are poorly sheltered, being exposed on external missile racks under the belly. If these missiles are hit in battle, it could risk a detonation that could destroy the fighter and its pilot.

      Spend Missiles, Spend Speed
While the missiles can be retasked as speed boosters for the Tal'koth Starfighter, this reduces the effective range of said missiles. The longer the boost function is used, the less range the missiles will have when fired. Inversely, firing the missiles in combat limits the fighter to just basic combat speed until ammunition can be restocked.

      Limited Missile Mounts
The external missile hardpoints house large missiles, which are difficult to store on a small fighter such as this. As a result, this fighter only gets four missiles to spend in combat.

      Eggshell Protection
The shields and hull on these fighters are pretty lack-lustre. It may not be quite as frail as a traditional TIE fighter, but it's also not quite as durable as an X-wing either. They're more akin to an RZ-1 A-wing in terms of durability.

      Intelligence Leak
This owner's manual is considered confidential by the Dornean authorities. In this manual contains dozens of clear diagrams that expose weak points and component locations. If the enemy should ever get their hands on one of these manuals, they could use this information to their advantage against the Dornean Starfighter corps.

    DESCRIPTION

"Well, it only took, what, a thousand years?"

This was the sentiment that was shared across the entire Dornean population when the Braha'ket Fleetworks Conglomerate finally unveiled the Tal'koth Starfighter. For a thousand years, the Braha'tok gunship had been the sole product and symbol of their people. Every couple decades-or-so the shipbuilding Conglomerate had come close to announcing a new project. Dornean engineers—being set in their ways—seemed to have an allergic reaction to change at every innovation. Every time a new project seemed to simmer, there seemed to be a subconscious impulse by the collective of Dornean engineers to default into just updating their aging gunships instead. After the first century of let-downs, any time a new project was announced, Dornean citizens would jokingly say things like, "what, are we getting massage chairs in the gunships next?" Or "sounds like Mahporeem is gonna sell us some new fighters again".

So, when a test flight for the Tal'koth was publicly showcased, it came as quite a shock to the Dornean population. Until that point, the Dornean admiralty had almost exclusively purchased cheap Uglies from Mahporeem or other discreet suppliers to supplement their struggling fighter corps. For the Dornean navy to acquire a fully homegrown starfighter space-frame was quite the unexpected shock.

The motivation for building something was ignited by the return of Dornean expatriates from the Nomadic Peoples Coalition and the Elysium Empire. These wayward dorneans had been forced to embrace change for several decades and were exposed to new ideas and inspiration. A strong desire for change came back with them and this spurred a new trend into the Braha'ket Fleetworks engineering team. After a couple years of push-back from the Dornean admiralty, they settled on trying out this new approach with a small starfighter to "test these waters".

Many of the design elements came from the Nomadic Peoples Coalition, from certain suppliers to various intellectual properties. Since many of the expatriates were familiar with NAKAIOMA avionics, many of those contracts were grandfathered in. However, offensively and defensively, new blood was needed to be brought in. While the dorneans had some special ordnances of their own to implement, they still needed a reliable fire control and countermeasure platform to contend with modern technology. For this, Bido Roz’lyn Bido Roz’lyn reached out to First United Astral Engineering.

First United was selected for its reputation for supplying Imperial Confederation military contractors. The Imperial Confederation was already en route to annex the Dornea system. By creating ties between a Confederation supplier and Braha'ket Fleetworks, Bido Roz’lyn Bido Roz’lyn gambled that this would help to preserve the struggling corporation during the annexation process.

When the test flight was successfully completed with plenty of fanfare coverage, a name was needed. Due to the way it maneuvered so erratically and the ferocity of the weapons systems, it was quickly compared to a tornado over the water. The name Tal'koth—which is Dornean for "water devil"—was quickly adopted.
