The REC-SS01 X-wing Space Superiority Starfighter was in many ways a loving recreation of the ancient starship that catapulted the Incom Corporation into a household name. The X-wing was the Starfighter that saved the Rebellion against the tyranny of the first Galactic Empire and took on the insidious Death Star… twice. It was also the Starfighter that also speared into the heart of Starkiller Base and avenged the fallen of Hosnian Prime. Suffice to say, should there be a threat to the safety of the Galaxy - X-wing Starfighters would be there to answer the call and lead the heroic charge into futures unknown. However, as the Incom Corporation has recently become silent as of late, Republic Engineering Corporation believed that it was their time to create the next generation of X-wing’s.
From this initiative, the REC-SS01 was intended to become the foundations upon which the other and successive models of the future would be based. So, when it came to the capabilities of the Starfighter - there was nothing admittedly new or fancy in terms of internal or external systems. Much of what was integrated into the Starfighter was popularized by other designs that were offered by the Corporation. However, what made the SS01 interesting to anyone that was overly familiar with Incom designs - was that the laser cannons held cunningly concealed adjustable emitters. These emitters would be remotely controlled by the Starfighter’s on-board systems to alter the angle of beam convergence - allowing the starfighter to shoot at targets much closer than its spiritual predecessors.
Alongside many of the improvements that came from modernizing the design of the X-wing, there were several systems from the ancient line of Starfighters that were overhauled and blended into its newest Successor. The first of these systems was the shared power couplings that could redirect power away from the Starfighter’s major systems, in order to boost another system. For example, if speed and maneuverability wasn’t a concern - but the fighter’s lethality or survivability was? The pilot would be able to adjust the power flow towards each respective system - significantly increasing the Starfighter’s defensive, offensive, or mobility output(s) respectively. Another was the Automated Munitions Collection System, which would see the Starfighter collect any spent shell casings from the variable munitions discharged by the respective weapon’s system within a radiation-shielded compartment.
While Republic Engineering sought to make a profit off providing War Material to various sources, it could never be said that the Corporation didn’t care about the environment - especially when many Starfighters utilized their Ion Engines in atmospheric environments, poisoning the Planet with variable levels of ionic radiation.
