“Vanagor?”

Go…

“You’re needed at the Sanctuary as soon as you can get here.”

Why?

“I’m not privy to the details.”

That was a day ago.

Connel was on site. This was not something that he really enjoyed, Connel had what he needed, and while this island, this Sanctuary was technically “his”, he left the day to day to those who were here every day. No disrespect to anyone here, this was just full of memories that up to this point that Connel was not ready to address. Yet today was “different”. Being here, he seemed to be “alright”, though he did not like surprises.

He was here to find out why they had called for him.

One of the facilitators pointed to the processional making its way to the island. “That.”

That was a “royal” transport. Organa was coming. This was actually a welcome surprise. Are we ready for them? If not, we need to be, like now. While everyone went about their business doing last minute checks, he made a run around the small island. He may know the Organas, but they are “royalty” and deserved that respect.

The transport made its way to the island's private starport, confirming identity and access before touching down. When the landing ramp opened, there was no procession of guards and aides clearing the way for their royals. There was only a single figure: Queen Amani Serys-Organa. She was not even dressed in a recognizably noble fashion, opting instead for a dark brown robe and headscarf, as if to intentionally downplay her identity.

She stepped down onto the docks, and no one followed her out. She had come truly alone. "Connel Vanagor?" The Queen spoke aloud after a beat, "Thank you for receiving me on such short notice.

… Can we talk?"

Your Highness.

He had known her a long time, back through the New Jedi Order, even back among the Silver Jedi when he was a child. She was still a Queen, and still deserved to be addressed as such, with a bow on bended knee. Standing again, he nodded when she offered thanks for receiving her. Of course.

Waving everyone off, it was clearly a conversation not meant for everyone.

While others had gone about their daily business, he had gestured a path for them to walk together. She had been here before, they had not had the chance to speak then, or since, so this clearly was not a social call. It was still a good call though. I never had the chance to thank you for the last time you were here. Michael told me of your kind words about my father. They were much appreciated.

There was no need to speak about that further, this was something he had wanted to do for quite some time but never truly had the opportunity(or courage) to do so up to this point. Which makes his change in demeanor that much more prevalent. They walked up to what was once “The main house” and still is, but is more for meeting and receiving, especially with that view. Will this do? Are you thirsty? Could I get you something to drink?

Amani followed Connel along the path, her pace a little to quick for a leisurely stroll, "Caltin was a good man, and a great Jedi. It was the least I could offer him." Her gaze was off in the distance, many thoughts unspoken.

They approached the main building. Amani answered his string of follow-up questions with a few nods and shakes of her head. Yes, it would do. No, she wasn't thirsty. She entered now, and turned around to face Connel directly. "I'm sorry I haven't come by more. it would do good to keep in touch, but my duties as Queen have left me distracted, and distant from my old Jedi life." Amani fiddled with her signet ring while she spoke, "…And ashamedly, the reason I'm here now is because I need something from you."

There you go.

Having gotten her a fruit drink, and offering it from behind the juice bar, he walked around and she was apologizing for not being around. Master Serys… She had earned the level she was at as a Jedi, like the military that is a lifetime title(unless of course you fall to the Dark Side).

... you have nothing to be ashamed about. Life often has a way of getting between you and your plans.

Then came the reason why she was here, she wanted something, she needed something. It was obviously important, so he stopped where he stood and waited. What can I do for you?

Amani gave the space a once over, "Are we alone?" She leaned in conspiratorially, "Alderaan is compromised."

"The Sith have begun to spread their influence into the Great Houses. Turn them against House Organa in exchange for safety, and likely power, should the Covenant take over."

"The people I trust the most are off world. The rest I can no longer fully trust. So that leaves your people."

"This is a sanctuary for Jedi Shadows, isn't it?"

That explains the shift.

“The Shift”, being that of one in the Force. It was not anything outlandish or huge, but something “off” that no one could center on. It was an Insurrection. Well, you can count me and everyone on this island among those you can trust. He grabbed a datapad and offered it.

On this, you will see what the Shadow Sanctuary is about. It’s really “Shadow” in name only as we house and teach all Jedi who are invited without any affiliation. I vet each individual myself.

She would see that there is a lot more underneath than what the naked eye sees on the island. We are also in preparations for a long expansion. More space, more training areas, this is going to be a full “Temple” soon.

Letting himself pause for a moment, he hammered his point. Each person on this island have the same motivations as I do. As for me, I was “Warden” of Alderaan before the Empire attacked Coruscant. Galactic Alliance, New Jedi Order, Jedi Order and High Republic aside… as far as I am concerned, I still am. I will bring it up with those here, but I am highly confident they will share the opinion. We're at your service.

"I know I can," She smirked, "That's why I came here."

Amani looked over the datapad, making a mental note of the upcoming expansions. This Sanctuary could well become a proper base of operations as things carried on. Perhaps it might need to be one. "We have to be careful. I don't want your people or this sanctuary getting targets on their back.

Not only that, but if you're caught, then it might jeopardize our mission as a whole."
Jedi secretly investigating and meddling with Alderaanian politics would no doubt make for ample ammunition against House Organa. "Your influence must be as unnoticed as the breeze. But we need to find the source of this darkness.

That's what Shadows do best, isn't it?"

This was big. He did not know all of the details, but that was to be expected at this point, but there were already gears moving. Too much of the Core had fallen to the Empire, then the Sith, Alderaan could not be one of them. Don’t worry about those of us here. There are protocols in place as well as technology that turns anyone away who do not have the coordinates already. We’ll be okay here.

When she expressed her concern about anyone being caught, he handed her a datapad. This is still just a residential island on records. My father, when the Shadow Temple fell due to the Mandalorians… not the Empire or the Convenant… the older ones… they razed the planet. Anyway he took a lot of what he learned with that facility, which I have rebuilt, and took them here. No one is officially “here”. It’s just a resort to anyone who might see the above ground. I vetted everyone here myself… he chuckled ... and if you thought my father was “paranoid….

She made her point, so it was time for him to make his. Whatever we do, you’ll have full “deniability”. The words were clearly uncomfortable, but the conviction in them was unmatched.

"With luck, no one will be any the wiser." Amani sighed, "People are nervous. Some will want to settle for Sith control to avoid retribution. Others will turn because they have something to gain from working with the Sith. Others will resist, but unless we can find proof of Sith interference, it won't be enough."

She managed a slight smirk, "No pressure." The Queen turned around, then stopped, "I probably shouldn't linger much longer. Can't have people back at Aldera getting suspicious about where I've snuck off to. But one more thing: I'm reaching out to some old friends for a summit. More people I can trust. I'd like you to be there as well. And if possible, to use this Sanctuary as the rendezvous point. Would that be alright?"

All of this information coming in gave him more reason to “greenlight” the expansion plans, and go even further. This was a serious issue and needed to be addressed sooner rather than later. He did not “feel” like a Jedi, but he had the sense of duty and that will never change. There are already people in places that could help. I will get you that information before you leave. After that, I will look into who could help in regards to the other houses.

When she expressed her concern about being here too long, he smirked as well. You were out for a “drive”... Then came her request. Consider it done. This facility and all of her residents are at your disposal. As long as those coming know about the secrecy of this place, to which I don’t doubt, all will be fine. You can count on us.

He wasn't his father, but that look he gave at the end resembled him.

"I appreciate it." Amani said, gathering her things. She wished this could just be a social trip, but if she didn't have time for it before, she definitely didn't have time for it now, "Oh, I don't think you'll have to worry. In fact I suspect you'll be well acquainted with at least a few of our guests."

With that, the Queen headed for the door, turning around once more to offer a deep bow in gratitude, "I'll see you there. I thank you again for all your help, Connel. We're going to need it."
