OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • City Name: Ran Dom Kuun, "Scar of Kuun."
  • Classification: Cathar Home-tree, tribal home of the Denik
  • Location: Cathar, on the edge of the Equatorial Jungle
  • Affiliation: Cathar Denik
  • Population: Moderate - About 2 Million
  • Demographics:
    • About 80% Cathar-Denik
    • 6% Wookie
    • 4% Human
    • 4% Shistavanan
    • 6% Various species
  • Wealth: Medium
    • While normally a place of tribal escape, the Starport on the upper branches acted as it's sole place of contact with the rest of the galaxy. That changed with the advent of Si Tech, setting up a small hub in the inner branches for research and design, allowing the tribal people a chance at employment both within the branches of the Home-tree, but also off-world in Si Tech's Coruscant Hub, bringing credits in.
  • Stability: Very High
    • The Cathar-Denik have been a solitary species, living in a tribal culture for generations. While their time under various empires brought strife within the tribes, their reaction to it was always the same. Hide within the great jungles to the south, and wait it out. The current leadership holds the same respect as those in the past, and the current acting Sage, Jonyna Si, acts as the voice of reason for the Denik.
  • Freedom & Oppression:
    • The Tribes of the Denik have always been a peaceful, free society. While strict rules on travel do keep young and foolish Denik from traveling out at night and getting themselves killed, the Denik do believe in a free culture, of both sexuality and personal freedom. The elders hear all concerns, and while some may fall on deaf ears at times, the people are heard. The only truly strict law is a cultural expectation that if you are Force Sensitive, you are to become a jedi, as Sylvar herself.
  • Description: A massive tree that overlooks the endless savannah to the north, and the endless jungles to the south. Poking above the clouds, the Home-Tree is a decently large spaceport for weary travelers looking for a getaway, teaming with life and Denik people, various murals carved into the bark. Denik use it's massive branches as highways, surfing and swinging from them, using their superior dexterity to maneuver around the thick canopy.

POINTS OF INTEREST
Kuun Spaceport:

The primary point of contact between the outside galaxy and the Denik, Kuun Space power is built into the largest branches of the lower levels, a multitude of landing pads act as entrances to the enormous tree's ecosystem and society. EAch landing pad has a dedicated crew, and a small hub that allows for storage, repair, and service landing starships, while also acting as the primary jobs for many male Denik. Pads range from personal starcraft size to massive corvette landing pads, the landing areas have most of the local business, locals servicing tourists and allowing them to see the Cathar Homeworld. Small lifts allow non-Denik to reach the ground several miles below,

Si Family Home:
Childhood Home of Jonyna Si, The Si Family home is one of many throughout the canopy. The home is marked only by a mural that is carved into the bark above it, of two Denik fighting off a Stormtrooper, wielding a red blade. Inside, a small abode houses the Cathar jedi, mostly unchanged since the days of her childhood. The smell of homemade, meaty soup and old jungle wood fills the air as you enter, and the bright colors of tribal decorations fill the eyes as you enter the living room. Off to the side, a small set of bedrooms hides away memories of long past. The home sat abanonded for years, the Si Family having moved to the stars since then, only a small contingent of them remaining elsewhere within the branches. Now only the occasional home of Jonyna, the home is slowly becoming the home of the Sage again...

Canopy Lookout:
High above all else, the top of the massive mountain of a tree, sits a spot many young Denik-Cathar find as a spot to find young love, and for elders to look out on the stars in meditation. The top of the tree, a small lookout balcony sits, old railings from generations past sit, set up by ancestors to help those who live beyond their years find solace in the stars and endless Savannahs.

Canopy Highway:
The massive branches and twisting interlocking offshoots of them act as a natural highway for the Denik. A usual sight among the tree is that of Denik surfing across branches, using them for transport around the branches, or sometimes entirely for fun. Many younger Cathar use it as a sport to reach the bottom the fastest, or perform tricks of acrobatics. While it does act as the main form of transport for the Denik subspecies, the other denizens of the tree can find carved staircases and ladder systems that allow non-climbers to make their way down safely.

Tribal Root Rings:
Far below the massive branches, the roots of the sacred tree to the Denik carve up the forest floor and create loops onto themselves, which the Denik use as rings for various rituals. From sparring matches between warriors, to feasting grounds for tribal banquets. The rings were once thought to hold the souls of the dead centuries ago now keep the traditions alive, and act as a solace for those in need of some place to hide away from the world. Small ponds form from nearby streams flowing through the roots, flowing back into the southern jungles.

Murals of The Past:
Among the massive expanse of bark, the Denik, much like their other kin, carve murals of their legends and heroes into the tree. The tale of a hunter who took down a Skih Rých singlehandedly, The story of a jedi who fought against the dark, the chronicle of female who had explored the equatorial jungle by themselves. To have your life immortalized on the tree's bark, is the eternal goal of all Cathar.

SECURITY
Low
Ran Dom Kuun is guarded only by it's inhabitants. Warriors by nature, the Denik have the ability to fight off Kiltik incusions, and yet, their first instinct upon an assault on their tree is to flee into the massive jungle. This has changed slightly with the return of Jonyna, but one jedi can only do so much, and the Denik aren't exactly trained to fight off an army.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION:
When the Mandalorians glassed Cathar, deep within the jungle the Denik laid in wait, hiding from the destruction. When the dust settled, the Denik returned to what had been their city-tree. Taking the last seed they could find, they replanted it. Generations later, Ran Dom Kuun, named after the scar given to the Sith Lord Exar Kuun by the great Cathar jedi Sylvar, the Denik rebuilt. Many great families of the 1000 remaining Denik, have passed through it's trees. The Sis, the Dels, the Grans. Denik claim the new tree holds the soul of their people, both figuratively, and literally.

The story of the Denik is a long one, and the story of Ran Dom Kuun is at the center of it. Their culture was born in these branches, and many stories could be told of those. The tree itself though, acts only as a silent character among them all. The setting of the story, the home of the tailed Cathar. The story of many a jedi, many a sith, as the Denik like their bretherin have since spread out across the stars. And yet, every single one of them can return back to this single tree to trace their roots.
