SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Multistage Deployment - Though often not required when deployed from a Capital Vessel; each device is designed to deploy in multiple stages to allow for the weapon to break the gravitational pull when deployed from a planet at a target in orbit.
  • 5J Mk.II Afterburning Ion Engine - The mainstage of the device - which carries the primary nuclear warhead - is equipped with a specialized afterburner to provide additional momentum and ensure delivery of the warhead.
  • XS-3 Intelligent Detonation System - Coupled with a basic, rudimentary droid brain - the XS-3 makes the final decision, based off information such as length of flight, range, etc etc, on when to detonate the warhead.
  • Self Destruct Device - Each Device is designed in such a manner as to prevent modification in any capacity beyond simple maintenance of the device or exchanging of a preapproved warhead loaded with preapproved Fissile materials. Specifically, this device includes a secondary droid brain that is designed to detect the presence of Baradium being added to the weapon - and is set to detonate in the event that an attempt is made to deploy the device.

STRENGTHS
  • Fissile Materials - The design of the device allows for the use of normally non-fissile material, such as depleted uranium, as the primary fuel of the weapon in the event that preferred fissile materials are unavailable or rarer to procure.
  • Droid Brain - Each device is equipped with a rudimentary droid brain, pre-programmed with a set of instructions and variables to ensure efficient deployment and detonation of the device when fired.
  • Electromagnetic Pulse - Often an unintended byproduct of the deployment of these devices; these EMPs have the potential of disabling or damaging unshielded electronics or technologies. In most cases, these devices are deployed against Capital Ships, with the intent being to disable or damage sensors, scanners, or cause severe damage to the shields.
  • Destructive Capabilities - The combination of explosive blast, electromagnetic pulse, and radioactive pollutant when one device is detonated forms the basis of its destructive capabilities. Each device has the potential of rendering the area around the immediate blast lifeless, and potentially uninhabitable in the proceeding years after detonation.

WEAKNESSES
  • Rate of Fire - Even without the safety designs of its predecessor, rapid deployment of these devices is not feasible, as great care must be taken when transporting these devices - even from storage to its launcher. Even if a launcher was pre-loaded, reloading a launcher with one of these devices would require time, which still prevents their rapid deployment after the initial volley was fired.
  • Multistage Deployment - Each device is designed to be deployed in stages - though often not required when deployed from a Capital Vessel or Station. This multistage design ensures that a device can be launched from a planet into orbit; however, there is potential for these stages to fail or sabotage, preventing proper deployment of the weapon.
  • Electromagnetic Pulse - A byproduct of the device is the creation of an EMP, which - though not physically as destructive as the initial blast - has the potential of disabling or damaging unprotected electronics in a given radius outside of the blast radius. This EMP is incapable of determining friend or foe; with its effects affecting anyone caught within the EMP blast.
  • Radioactivity - During the process of maintaining or transporting these devices; if improperly handled, an individual has the potential of being exposed to lethal levels of radiation. This, in turn, would result in radiation poisoning, with the symptoms of such depending based off the individual's species and their ability to withstand radiation exposure. In the most common cases - such as with Humans - exposure could potentially lead to a painful and severe death.
  • Radioactive Pollution - In the event that a device is turned upon a planet; not only would the immediate area be devastated by the initial blast of the weapon, the resulting pollution of radioactive elements produced by the device would render the area uninhabitable and hazardous to those species incapable of withstanding high levels of radiation. With contamination lasting anywhere from a few weeks to decades, often requiring expensive and extensive cleanup operations.
  • Volitile Fuel - Storage and deployment of these weapons is further complicated due to the utilization of Coaxium and Rhydonium as the primary fuel source. Each device must be carefully transported, with great care taken into preventing the potential detonation of the fuel - which would result in a catastrophic chain reaction of detonations; potentially even detonating the fissile material within the device itself.
  • Baradium Fission Device - Each device, though powerful and destructive in their own right, is otherwise incapable of cracking or obliterating a planet on their own.

DESCRIPTION
The first line of Phlegethon Devices were developed and deployed at a time when the Mandalorian Clans had laid siege to the planet of Eshan - during that conflict, the first devices were deployed in mass; resulting in the Eshan Accords which limited their further mass deployment. Though they would eventually undergo a series of changes which included target locking the weapon to prevent its use against a planet, and preventing deployment of more than one device in set intervals - that time and the circumstances have changed. The second generation devices are under no such limitations - originally intended to be developed and deployed against the Bryn'adul, their use and target has, likewise, changed.

Each Phlegethon II device is equipped with a rudimentary droid brain which is pre-programmed to deal with a set of potential variables and obstacles to ensure the efficient deployment of the device. Unlike its predecessor, the second generation devices were developed with a multistage deployment capability; which allows for the device to be deployed directly from a Capital Ship, or deployed from a planetary location. The drawback of this multistage design comes in the form of potential failure of the stages to deploy properly, or even to be sabotaged, which would prevent properly deployment in its entirety. The second generation devices were also designed to be able to utilize non-fissile materials - such as depleted uranium - as the fuel source for ignition; however, this greatly reduces its overall effectiveness when compared to utilizing the fissile materials that are often deployed within the device.

Likewise, the dangers and potential hazards of both transporting and handling these devices remains - such as they had been present in the predecessor devices. This can range from acute radiation poisoning, in the event that an individual is exposed to the fissile material through improper handling; to even the potential detonation of the device due to the volatile fuel - Rhydonium - that is utilized as a propellant in the multistage design.

With conflicts continuing to change and evolve throughout the Galaxy, the need for such weapons was revisited. Though, in many cases, it is rare that these devices would be deployed - their destructive capability is a boon to any arsenal. Their design, however, is limited in a major regard - that being the lack of a Baradium component. Without that component, these weapons, in and of themselves, are still highly destructive, though are otherwise incapable of cracking a planet like a Baradium Fission Device.

It should also be noted that any attempt to tamper with, or otherwise refit these devices in such a manner would fail, either resulting in radiation exposure to those attempting to modifying the device, or activating a self-destruct component that would detonate the device. The Self Destruct Device does not trigger when in the presence of Baradium - rather - it works by detecting the addition of Baradium to the device, and then activates in the event that the Baradium modified device is attempted to be deployed.

A hard number for the yield had been a point of contention with the previous submission. It was purposely left out of this submission to avoid confrontation over a specific hard number damage value; as was suggested in the previous submission.

I'd recommend staying away from specific numbers of megatons in the future. I don't mean this only within the roleplay, but within the submission itself. The exception to this would be if it was an extremely small number, which would rather act as a limiting factor in how much damage these weapons are expected to deal.

  • Thermonuclear Device: There's no easier way to state its strengths. It is a thermonuclear device capable of producing a blast up to 100 megatons.
This is taken from the same submission, your first strength. This apparently was forgotten and I just wanted to note this before I approved it. I saw what Gir typed and I am in agreement, but if this is abused, we will be back here later.

APPROVED!
