STRENGTHS
  • Heavy Armaments - The NovaSword is centered around the capacity to unleash heavy amounts of damage as seen with its primary focus being on maintaining a heavier armament than similar Starfighters designs.
  • Secondary Deflector Shield Generator - Designed to act as a "workhorse", the NovaSword is equipped with a secondary generator as a means to boost its already considerable defensive capabilities.
  • Light Bomber - Equipped with a bomb chute capable of deploying Proton Bombs, the NovaSword is capable of acting in the role of a Light Bomber in the event that a more dedicated bomber is otherwise unavailable.
  • High Maneuverability - Despite its size, heavier armaments, and defenses, the NovaSword is capable of maneuvering much like an Interceptor; accomplishing turns, banks, and moves that more nimble craft are capable of performing.
  • AR-0B Damage Reduction Armor Component - This specialized component maintains an ablative current that courses through the hull plating of the NovaSword. The purpose of this current is the removal of harmful particles that may have built up on the hull as a result of damage sustained from laser-based weaponry. This also serves to increase the longevity of the hull plating; increasing the duration between refits and repairs.
  • R-PB6 Repair Unit - Each NovaSword is equipped with a launcher that is capable of deploying specialized probe droids; these droids in turn can serve to render repairs to nearby vessels including the vessel that has deployed the probe droids.

WEAKNESSES
  • H9 Turbolaser Cannon - The primary weapon of the NovaSword is a singular H9 Turbolaser Cannon; the downside of operating such a weapon on a Starfighter is the drain that the vessel's systems can feel. This often requires the either the H9 Turbolaser be utilized or the Laser Cannons; neither can be operated at the same time due to the massive power drain on the system.
  • WhisperThrust Engine - Like many of the Starfighters, Interceptors, and Bombers designed and manufactured by Von Sorenn Industries and its Subsidiaries; the NovaSword is outfitted with a specialized engine that utilizes supercooled gases and components to trap and scatter escaping emissions. Though this serves the decrease the sensor wake of the vessel, it is only capable of doing so provided the vessel remains at a slower speed. Sudden bursts of speed or maneuvers render any advantage of the WhisperThrust Engine cancelled; with the vessel immediately being detectable on scanners and sensors.
  • SLAM Passout - Those vessels equipped with this component; which can allow a crew to override safety protocols and increase the sublight speed of the NovaSword, also have the potential of being rendered unconscious. In the event that this happens, the vessel would likewise be rendered inoperable; left at the mercy of enemy formations.
  • L-41c Power Converter - Though capable of allowing a pilot to transfer the power of the vessel's engines to increase the weapon reserves; it also has the drawback of lessening the vessel's speed due to the drop in power output to the engines.
  • Minimal Speed - With a focus on heavier armaments and defenses, the vessel lacks considerable in the area of speed. Though more nimble and maneuverable than other vessels, it often does not have the speed that compliments this maneuverability.
  • Low Squadron Numbers - The size of the NovaSword as well as other mitigating factors has caused the vessel to be deployed in smaller squadrons that normal. This can often create logistical problems in operational theaters; deploying far fewer Starfighters despite being capable of fielding larger numbers of Squadrons.

DESCRIPTION
Originally designed and produced to overcome the aging Z-95 Headhunter, the NovaSword acted as a Space Superiority Fighter - designed so that it could easily be piloted by a singular individual or host an additional Co-Pilot depending on the manpower of the organizations deploying these Starfighters. This variant of the NovaSword is centered around those older design elements, capable of providing a heavier armament platform or fulfilling the role of a Light Bomber in the event that a dedicated Bomber-wing is unavailable. Its primary weapon system is an H9 Turbolaser Cannon - often deployed on larger warships - which takes up the majority of the vessel and resulted in its larger size. Additional weapon components include heavy laser cannons, projectile launchers, and a dedicated bomb chute which can carry a complement of proton bombs. The primary downside of this design is that the H9 Turbolaser and the Heavy Laser Cannons cannot be operated at the same time - as the turbolaser consumes large amounts of power to properly operate. This forces the crew to focus on either utilizing their main weapon or the laser cannons.

Though the vessel is nimble, with a maneuverability that is often seen in many Interceptor designs, its heavy defenses nearly mitigate this factor due to the lack of speed which often complements such maneuverability. In the event that the crew utilizes the L-41c Component; which provides the ability to transfer the engine's power into the weapon reserves - the speed of the NovaSword would further suffer due to a lack of power to the engines. However, its primary design is not focused around outrunning or even outpacing an enemy as much as it is focused on taking a hit and still moving. This can be seen in its heavier defenses, which include a secondary shield deflector shield generator - making for a Starfighter that can stand toe-to-toe with heavy hitters such as dedicated gunboats or smaller patrol craft. The addition of a WhisperThrust Engine can often be utilized to sneak up on any enemy to unleash a strike before pulling away; however, the advantage of the engine requires that the vessel be traveling at a slow speed - as any sudden burst of speed or maneuver would render the vessel immediately detectable to scanners and sensors.

During its time the NovaSword was rapidly overshadowed by the reveal of the X-Wing Starfighter; given a second chance, the NovaSword has been reenvisioned as a capable Starfighter, Light-Bomber combination. A heavy armament and defenses make up for any lack of speed, and the capability of being deployed from a Carrier or deployed via its Hyperdrive capabilities ensures that the vessel is more than capable of filling in multiple roles in the event that a dedicated craft is missing from the roster.
