"If what he said is true, it will show us my greatest desire."

Valery had a pretty good idea about what that was. Nothing made her as happy as being with her husband and kids, after all. But how would it manifest itself in the context of her bond to their unborn child? How was it going to help those visions from bleeding into her dreams at night?

Valery reached down to take his hand and looked at him with an appreciative smile. She was just a little bit nervous about this, but having him so close made it a lot easier.

"We do, let's get inside." She walked towards the front door with slow, measured steps. Her hand settled against the door, and slowly pushed it open. The sound of laughing kids and the holo-tv playing could already be heard up ahead.

She guided Kahlil through the hallway, and stopped once she was able to look into the living room. They were all there. Vera, about 16 years old and quite the beautiful young woman. Aris, being surrounded by the the triplets, who were growing fast themselves. Colette, giving some attention to Nibbles. And, of course, Bee to watch over them all.

But there was also a little 3-year-ols, with raven-black hair and green eyes, sitting on the couch with his big sister.

"There you two are. How was the walk?" Vera asked her parents, like they belonged here. In this future. "Eryx is hungry, and we can all use a bite too. Dad did promise pancakes tonight..." She looked at her Dad, and for just a moment, was a mirror of her Mom with the way she smirked.

Eryx, huh?

Valery looked up at Kahlil and smiled. Maybe all she needed, was just realizing that in the end, everything was going to be okay.

Valery's hand felt almost limb as he took it and gently squeezed. She was just staring at the scene in front of her. At all the kids, and little Eryx playing on the ground. The dreams, the nightmares, the visions — they had made her so afraid of the future, and for what reason? Nothing was set in stone, and with a family like this, how couldn't things turn out okay?

For many years to come, he was going to be their little one to take care of. What happened beyond... well, that was something to help him with later.

"Yes, let's go home." She turned to him with a smile, and leaned in closer to wrap her arms around his neck. She couldn't care less about the Vianists now, or if this had really been a solution or not. She just wanted to go home, and give birth to another new little Noble.

...
"Isn't he so cute?" Valery asked, her face covered in sweat while she cradled the baby into her arms. She had already pulled the sheets over her for some privacy, and held the baby out for her husband to take. Outside the door, all the other kids were waiting to be let in.

Valery had asked them to be out of the room, just so she wouldn't be too overwhelmed. But they were eager to see little Eryx for themselves.

"Hey Aris? You excited to hold him, too? The triplets are small, but a baby is really tiny." Vera grinned, but the triplets all looked up at her. Squinted.

"We're not small!"

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil spent only a few moments with the doctor he'd called to their home. A midwife, more accurately, just to make sure there were no complications or anything for him to worry about. But the moment everything was fine? He was in bed beside her, smiling warm and wide as he cradled them both in his arms. There was nothing that made him happier than this.

There truly was nothing better.

"You did perfect, my love."

Aris stood by the door with the others, staring at it rather intently. This wasn't what he was prepared for, if he was being honest. The baby was born. Eryx. Their brother. He had cried at first, which was what babies were supposed to do. It didn't stop him from wanting to rush into the room. .. Is it okay for me to hold him? Won't he be.. Really small?"

He was worried. Very worried. How could he not be? The last thing he wanted to do was hurt their baby brother.

Valery nuzzled into her husband's embrace and offered the midwife a grateful smile. Everything had gone perfectly and their son was healthy. How could she not cry a few happy tears when she heard her newborn cry? This was the future she wanted for her family - for it to steadily grow and have everybody happy and healthy.

"Couldn't have done it without you," Valery said before an emotional snort escaped her. "Well, literally of course, but... I also appreciate the support and protection." She leaned in and kissed his cheek. Then, her eyes finally turned to the door.

"You can hold him. Just support his head and neck, and be gentle. Mom and Dad will show you when they hand him over." She could see the protective big brother in his eyes. He was going to be very careful, and he was going to do everything in his power to protect his little brother.

But this was also new to him, so Vera understood he was nervous.

"We'll wait and-" Vera stopped when the door opened. The midwife stepped aside and allowed the kids in, before she departed from the room to give the family some privacy. The triplets quickly rushed over to be by their Mom's side, and all of them got a kiss to the top of their heads.

Then, Valery looked at Aris, "Hey sweetie. You want ro be the first to hold Eryx?"

"Oh, don't I know it."

He snickered in turn as he leaned over to kiss Valery's forehead. There was no chance he'd never protect her, or their children. And truthfully, there was nothing that made him happier than this moment. For all of their children. He looked to the door as it opened and they all came in, smiling softly. They were all here now. All together.

"Go ahead, Aris."

Aris hesitated in the doorway for a moment before taking a step forward. Then reached out. He was very careful, bordering on paranoid, as he took up his brother in his hands.

".. He really is so small."

Valery closed her eyes and enjoyed the warmth of his kiss against her forehead. The birth of their son had made her particularly emotional already, but her husband's added affection made her melt. It was everything she needed and more. The one other thing that made this moment complete started just a second later.

The kids entered the room.

After looking at their little brother, the triplets rushed over to Mom and began to climb up onto the bed. Valery groaned a little, still sore, but tried her best to wrap her arms around them.

"Babe..." she did squeak, just to get Dad's help with them.

Vera, meanwhile, walked over to Aris while he held Eryx in his arms and patted him on the shoulder, "You're gentle." With a grin, Vera waggled her finger in front of Eryx, and he responded with some squeals and noises. "It's also going to be up to us to protect him, huh Aris?"

Kahlil_Div2.png

"Careful with your mother, children." He reached out, gently picking up the three of them in his own arms to set them beside Valery, not on her. She was going to need time to heal and mend, but it wasn't going to take long. Not knowing Valery and how stubborn she tended to be. "Give her space, yeah? She's going to need to heal after everything."

".. Yeah."

Aris smiled widely as he looked down at Eryx. Didn't look away, really. This was fascinating. He wasn't here for when the triplets were this small. He'd never seen someone who looked so helpless and vulnerable as Eryx did now.

"We're going to keep you safe, Eryx. Don't worry."

The triplets flailed when Kahlil pluckes them off of their mother, but calmed down again when he put them besides Valery. As chaotic as the little Nobles could be, they didn't want to hurt Mom. So, one by one, they leaned in closer for careful hugs to make her feel better.

Valery was struggling to keep herself from crying more happy tears.

"Daddy?" Aurra asked while her little hand went over the sheets where Mom's stomach would be. "You have to make mommy better." She looked up at him with pleading eyes, childishly unaware that all of this was very normal.

Valery sniffled, then looked over at her oldest. Vera... was squinting at her brother. She looked from the baby to him and back again, and squinted some more. She also wanted to hold Eryx, but Aris seemed to be in a trance, holding him.

"Yeah, we will," Vera said with a little grin. "Aris, can uh, I hold him now?" She asked before looking over at Mom. Undoubtedly, the Mama's boy would want to hug her too, right?

"Don't you worry, little one. Mommy just needs some rest."

He chuckled as he reached out to gently pat the top of Aurra's head and looked to Valery. She looked like she was going to cry again, which wasn't too surprising to him. Today would be a day of happy tears for sure.

Aris glanced up to Vera before rather carefully holding out their brother for her. "I did say we, you know."

Aura felt her father's hand atop her head and looked at him with a little smile. If he said that Mommy was going to be okay, she'd always believe it. Mom and Dad would never lie, after all, and as far as she was concerned, they were always right. Looking back at her Mom, though, it was clear she needed a little bit of attention.

The little ones and Dad would take good care of her. Together.

"I know, I know," Vera said with a roll of her eyes, as she took Eryx into her arms. Her smile brightened immensely, and gently, she started to sway back-and-forth. "Aris, I think Mom wants a hug from you." Vera looked over, having spotted Mom focusing on her oldest son for a long moment.

"Aris?" Valery asked before inviting him with an outstretched hand. "Our family is getting big, and the triplets are... you know... they need attention. But Eryx will too. Your Dad and I can count on your help, right?" It was a question she already knew the answer to, but her emotional Mama side wanted her son's reassurances as well.

Aris blinked before looking over to Valery. And smiled sheepishly. He did step over and gave a very, very, careful hug. "I will help where I can, as much as I can, of course." He was one of the eldest after all, it made sense for him to help where he could. He pulled back, giving another sheepish smile.

"Just don't rely on me or Vera too much. We are our own people still, and we have a lot we still need to figure out as we grow."

Huff, puff, pant, and exhale.

"Am I too late?" Was the first thing Colette could think to ask as she blindly latched onto the hospital door and heaved for air. The stairs were practically skipped over in a single swoop on the way over. "Is it the happen?"

Sweat practically poured from Colette's forehead as she looked up at the rest of her family.

"Sorry, the ship was not letting me off until the—" She exhaled. "Until the landing gears—" Exhale once again, air escaped into her. "Until they had touched down?"

"Ran as fast as I could."

She let in a deep breath.

"Is the baby alive now?"

Her brain was clearly running on fumes though.

"I know, sweetie," Valery said after the careful hug. She then kissed his cheek and placed her hand against it, just so her thumb could brush over his skin. "Your Dad and I will never expect you and Vera to raise them for us. Just... sometimes we might need a little help, and I think your little brother would love your attention too." her hand shifted to his shoulder and she kept eye-contact while she smiled.

"Being a big brother means they're going to look up to you." The triplets certainly did — especially Adam and Aurra. Aeryn was far more independent and stubborn, though she did love her siblings.

The sound of footsteps rushing in caught Valery's attention. Colette had made it home and with the family complete, Valery just couldn't be happier.

"He's here and very healthy," Vera said, as she held out the baby for Colette. "His name is Eryx."

It took Colette a few moments to regain her composure as she stumbled over and sat down in a nearby chair. Everyone looked very happy, and in some regards even Colette was happy. There was a clear sense of belonging growing in her given the time that she had spent with the Nobles as a family by now, but even with all of that in mind there was that tough shell to crack.

But, as 'Eryx' was handed over to her there was no denying that the shell fractured just a little bit more as she looked into his eyes with a warm smile.

It was funny to think that she had been that small and defenseless once. Unaware of the world at large, every second a new adventure… And that was just after she had left Ophus. She didn't really take her eyes off the kid as she carefully looked at him. He cooed, she 'woah'ed back.

The hold was second nature by now. She had seen enough kids to know that part. It was the 'being there at the start' of it all that got to her the most. It was a trance that she only really managed to snap out of once she caught on to the way that the others seemed to look at her.

"Sorry." She said and handed the little babe over to its father. "It's a powerful moment."

"You have absolutely nothing to apologize for," Valery said with a chuckle after she watched Colette hold her baby brother for a long, quieter moment. She felt the connection there, and the gentle impression ledt behind. Colette, as much of a gremlin as she was, had a strongly caring side to her as well.

It showed with Nibbles and the triplets, and it would be much the same now.

"He's your little brother, too. I'm sure he'll love the attention from all of us." Valery smiled and watched Colette hand him over to Kahlil. In his father's arms, he immediately made some more happy little noises and got himself comfy.

"Love? Do you think we should celebrate somehow? With something big? Or...just some time alone here at home?"

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil himself was quickly enraptured by the little Eryx as he was once again in his arms. For the first time, actually. He'd been very patient in getting his turn to hold the newest Noble, but now that he was he was very focused on entertaining the newborn. He smiled, reached down to tickle his chin. Then blinked as he glanced over to Valery.

She wasn't even going to be able to walk for a little while longer, and she already wanted to go out and celebrate? He chuckled and shook his head. "We can celebrate later. For now, I think you need to get some rest, yeah?"

Her shoulders rose and sunk with a deep breath as the rest of the exertion from her sprint faded into nothing. Colette looked at Valery and then Kahlil. It was a happy day to be sure, but Kahlil also had a point. Valery would need to rest, and Colette had other pressing matters to attend to.

Or rather, it had her to attend to. Soft paws patted against the floor until they lept up into Colette's lap and began to rub against her thighs. Nibbles surprised Colette for a moment before she warmed up and scooped her own child into her arms and gently nibbled at the scruff of his neck while she raised him to look over at the small bundle in Kahlil's arms.

"That's your new best friend." She whispered and gently lowered Nibbles to let him rest in her arms. "His name is Eryx, he's my new brother."

The cat gently wrapped his teeth around the thumb stroking up and down against his fur to make it stop and then quickly let go.

"Now, you are not allowed to bite Eryx, okay?"

"I'm fine," Valery said stubbornly after watching her husband have his little moment with Eryx. The littlest Noble was making some happy sounds after being tickled and had his green eyes fixed on his father. That made Valery smile, but it also made her want to get up and going to celebrate and do something fun with her family.

She hated being stuck in bed.

Valery then watched Colette interact with Nibbles and smiled for a moment — until she realized it was a good distraction as well. After being in bed for so long and giving birth, she was thirsty and hungry for some good food. So, with everybody hopefully focused on either the baby or kitten, she opened the sheets and started shifting to sneak her way onto her feet.

"...Dad..." Vera said, just in case he hadn't picked up on it.
