Dhalinar Greystar had been in a dark place for months. His padawan missing with no word, kidnapped by the brutish Mandalorians, had become just another mystery lost to the tide of war as the Empire closed in on the Alliance and the Maw remained an ever-present threat. The Council had quickly become busy, so busy that it had taken him weeks to get an audience with them only for them to deny his request that the Jedi send a strike team to rescue his padawan. They sited an Alliance treaty with the Encalve and the oddity of a Mandalorian kidnapping a Jedi with such a pact in place. How could they be so blind? The Mandalorians could never be true allies of peace and balance. They were the defacto imbalance between the light and the dark, always playing third party to one side or another, though they had historically usually fell on the side of dark. Even when they fought for the light their methods had caused strain between them and the Jedi. It wouldn't be the first time Mandalorians had killed an ally either on accident or with intent. His grip on his grab handle tightened at the bitter memories so much that his leather gloves squeed against the plastoid.

The single dropship carried several Jedi Knights who had agreed to take on this dangerous task. He could not abide by the Council's wishes. Not on this matter. Valery Noble Valery Noble was an idealist and one from a different time, a time that he'd thought would make her more sympathetic to his please and distrust towards the Mandalorians. Zark San Tekka Zark San Tekka and Bernard of Arca Bernard of Arca were simply being practical, he knew. They did not wish to start a third war with the Mandalorians, didn't want want to spread the Jedi, who were seeing a boom in numbers, too thinly. Dagon Kaze Dagon Kaze had been the only one to vote in favor of Dhalinar's pleas.

He turned to the gathered Knights and Masters, a grim look on his face.

"Thank you for coming. I doubt I could have done this on my own," he began before pulling a holodisk from his pocket. The glow illuminated the dim interior of the dropship. "Kestri is the home of the Mandalorian Enclave and from what data Corellian Intelligence could gather the last message I received from my Padawan and her captor originated from here." The image shifted from the planet to the mountain fortress city of Tor Valum. "Do not underestimate the Mandalorians. They are cunning warriors with a culture dedicated to destroying us. Even more disturbing I've heard rumors of Mandalorian Shamans who wield the Force and bend it to their will. Sith by another name I say." He grunted in derision. "We drop inside the city and infiltrate the Warden Quarter. They'll most likey have her there where she can be kept under guard."

"We're coming in on the drop zone Master Jedi," called the pilot. Dhalinar nodded solemnly before fixing his grey-blue eyes on the team assembled.

"Thank you again for coming. May the Force be with us all." The drop doors hissed and slid open. A frigid wind blew through the cabin billowing cloaks, robes, and capes. The city lay below the Jedi and with one final nod Dhalinar took his lightsaber in hand and jumped into Hell. He would pull Sola out of this if it cost him everything.

"Kestri is the home of the Mandalorian Enclave and from what data Corellian Intelligence could gather the last message I received from my Padawan and her captor originated from here."

As Master Greystar explained all this, their drop shuttle approaching the intended destination, a frown spread across Gotto's face. It was a peculiar situation, really. A Mandalorian capturing a Jedi padawan? The Enclave, or some of it's clans, seemed to be working towards diplomatic relations with the NJO. Some had even visited the temple. It seemed quite odd that they would try such a thing. Risking all out war with the Jedi was not one that ever went well historically. He couldn't help but wonder if Master Greystar was letting his emotions get the better of him. His note about the force-sensitive ones being no better than Sith seemed to all but confirm this. Still, if a padawan was in danger, Knight Sorendu was determined to ensure their safety, even in spite of his skepticism.

"Well, there he goes," Gotto sighed with a shrug. "I didn't even ask if he had attempted to communicate with the Mandalorians."

Gotto was a rational thinker and a lover of peace. If no lives could be lost today, he would very much prefer it.

"No disrespect to Master Greystar, but I'm concerned there may be more to this," he stated rather bluntly. "The safety of Padawan Taan is our priority, but I fear we may risk war where it is not necessary. I suggest we proceed with the utmost care."

And with that, staff in hand, Gotto followed behind the Corellian Jedi master.

Grendel had traveled with Sōla Taan Sōla Taan to Tor Valum he didn't know why she had elected to join him here especially when there where other planets that she could have gotten off at, Grendel had thought she would want to get away from him as soon as possible and be with her own people at the very least. Either way it probably didn't matter the Jedi's business was her own and he was currently walking down one of the many streets of Tor Valum buying supplies for his ship as the trip here had been a bit of a drain.

Feeling a bit hungry Grendel spotted a street vendor, walking over and ordering some of the mysterious street meat he then when to find a place to sit and enjoy his meal.

Outside Tor Valum, Kestri

"Why do we need to practice with you? We train for battle every day!"

Cheers rose from the small crowd nearby of support for the defiant 'student' that had volunteered to play with a certain Twi'lek around the perimeter of the city. Training chambers were nice, but too familiar. A change in scenery didn't hurt. Plus they could always end up fighting the Sith in the bitter cold.

"How many Sith have you slain?" Zlora Rue asked as she stood with scarcely any clothing on as usual. If the chill of Kestri touched her skin, the Lethan woman showed no indication of it.

The man puffed up his chest and cried, "Fifty!"

Zlova didn't even try to suppress her laughter. Her lekku whipped back as she howled into the sky. "Fifty? Fifty? I said Sith, not their lapdogs." A violet beam of plasma ignited from a saber drawn from the small of the Twi'lek's back. "How many had one of these?"

The bucket on the man's head turned toward her. No doubt with a dark expression behind it. "One."

A grunt and slight nod accompanied the man's correction. "Impressive." It was an actual compliment the man was still alive having faced even one in battle. Probably not the strongest, but everyone started somewhere. "Then you should already know why you need to train for fighting a Sith in battle." The lightsaber at her side whirred and hissed as it vaporized countless snowflakes in its passing. "You have plenty of weapons and gadgets, but have you trained using them without thinking about how to use them? It needs to be an instinct. Something you know and could do the second you were forced awake in the night before 'who' and 'why' even enters your thoughts. Because the slightest hesitation will get you killed."

The crowd murmured and looked to one another. Some were still not convinced, but at least they weren't laughing and talking about banal matters of personal import. It was a start.

"Draw your weapon."

The Mandalorian warrior brought their rifle to bear in a sturdy grip. Zlova could tell the man hadn't been lying about his training. Proper stance, firm hold, on-point aim. Hadn't take more than a second for him to find his mark. Then the rest of the training wouldn't be a waste of time.

Zlova spun the saber at her side once more and slowly slid her right foot back with a smile widening in concert. "Now, when you're ready, shoot me."

Again, for his credit, the man only hesitated a moment. While Zlova was shameless about where she came from, which had a number of Mandalorians perturbed by her presence, she was one of them. Killing vod was a crime. Especially one that had been inducted into the Enclave by the Quartermaster that passed not long ago. It was a flicker of doubt, but they always got over it in the end. No point training with plastic weapons.

The piercing whine and sharp punch of a bolt's discharge filled the air.

An embankment of snow that'd been thirty feet behind Zlova had a hole drilled into its snow and ice covered exterior.

The buzz of a lightsaber filled the Mandalorian's ears and the crowd's eyes snapped from where Zlova had been standing to where she now stood. The Twi'lek held her saber at a forty-five degree angle with the hilt high and the tip low under the blaster rifle in the man's grasp; if she'd carried the swing through with both hands on the weapon she'd have easily cleaved the man in two from hip to shoulder. Golden eyes shone with the light of the saber as they bore into the man's T-visor.

"Do not underestimate your opponent. Certainly none that can use the Force. They can move faster than you can see. They can throw you about like a ragdoll, and can bewitch your mind. If you have time to think when facing a Sith adversary then they are weak, and you should count your blessing from the Manda for it." Zlova stepped back, then back again before the saber discharged. "Shall we go again?"

Could her methods be demoralizing? Well, of course. She was Sith. They cut people's hands off, they didn't hold them. The first round needed to be overwhelming. The warriors needed to understand what they were facing, then they could properly beginning quickly ramping up the ability to respond to it.

As Zlova moved to get back into the starting position, however, she turned her head to the side. Her eyes narrowed slightly sensing... the Light side of the Force? It wasn't the Mandokarla. She'd become accustomed to their strange tight-rope act they walked with the Force. There were more than one or two in the same place as well. Strange, Zlova hadn't heard the Jedi were sending some kind of delegation to Kestri, and Master-Padawan combinations for training were often just that -- two or three. Seemed unnatural there would be so many with such skill visiting at once.

"We'll need to continue this later. Something's come up that requires my attention."

He frowned towards Gotto, a stare left the corner of his blue and narrowed eyes. "The time to ask was on Coruscant," the young Jedi plainly said with his frame swallowed by the robes that draped over his form, "If you're not comfortable, stay with the ship." He continued with a touch of bitterness and a subtle purse of his lips.

The Mandalorians, now neighbours to his homeworld. Their conflicts and causes were a constant stain on the countless of systems their barbaric horde touched across the thousands of years since their inception. Maramere included, whether direct or indirect, or from the Enclave at all, Rakaan was never truly afforded the clearest of details. Beyond the last semblance of connections to his old life left dead in the dirt. It was a mission to save a Padawan, that much was true, even if Rakaan wanted more from it. More that he knew he shouldn't.

Rakaan stood by the Jedi Master, the hilt of his saber in hand.

The option of peace was cast aside the moment the Mandalorians stole that young girl.

An impossibly long report sat in front of the Karjr Guildmaster. As far as reports went, it was only the eightieth he'd read that day. Not that it wasn't his fault, atleast not entirely, usually he spread his report reading and archiving out across the week. Recent Events had demanded his presence, and he had to play catch up in his duties as a result.

The extra work certainly didn't help.

Still, he found himself tapping his fingers on the cold metal of the table, even though he knew he shouldn't. It was a poor habit that'd only damage the table and his equally metallic fingers. On any other day, he might've been able to muster the resolve needed to keep reading, to keep filing.

Not today, though.

The Demon had been more active, far more active. While it did not plague his nightmares, did not wake him with a sweat for an early day, it plagued the corners of his vision, brushed its hand against his skin, even though it was not bare. Every shadow danced to its form, spreading against whatever light was cast upon like a cloak in the wind.

On any other day, he would've indulged its attention seeking by now; Invictyra was not uncordial, and far too long-lived to grow bored. It acted only when it was necessary, though its definition of the word was, more often than not, different to the Dragr's.

It was only when, after relentless haunting, the Guildmaster gave in and reached out to the Demon did he finally understand. He was no Jedi, no Sith, but he knew when something was out of place.

Ashla, as the Demon called it. The Light Side.

Jedi.

Rising from his chair in haste, Volo made sure he had not left a single artefact or weapon behind. Waving a hand, a rift to the Netherworld sprung open against his office wall, closing just as he stepped through.

The Dragr emerged not far from the Jedi's position, his amulet masking himself to their senses. For now, he would content himself to merely investigate, to observe.

Raising the alarm would come later.

Icy wind buffeted Dhalinar as he fell, his short shimersilk cape billowing wildly behind him. He landed with the thud of boots on durasteel, his fall greatly softened by the Force, a technique he had yet to teach Sola, one he'd thought he would never get the chance to. Anger boiled in his stomach again remembering the single communication he'd received after Ilum. It brought up memories he'd thought long buried. Dromund Kass, a city of ash, a missing Jedi Knight, a broken lightsaber. Dhalinar suppressed a growl and stood, looking up to see his fellow Jedi Knights following suit.

A Mandalorian starfighter flew out from under them followed by a transport headed off on some unknown mission. It seemed they had landed on a hangar. He checked his wristpad. They had just under an hour before the Corellian Defense Force destroyer "Eva" dropped out of hyperspace above Kestri to retrieve them. They didn't have any time to waste. He closed his eyes, reaching out to the Force, searching...searching.

' Sōla Taan Sōla Taan ... Where are you...'

The baker had been busy throughout the day, glad that her legs had now healed. She had almost lost them defending her home, Kestri. Despite the craving to find a time of peace there always seemed to be something going on here on Kestri, and it is thanks to this that Venari had taken it upon herself to help keep an eye on things.

Her heavy boots make a satisfying thud as the heavily armored gunner strode along in her now battle worn armor, the scars of blaster rounds still adorning the plate.

Now the question would be.. Was the peace going to be disturbed once again by more aruetyc? Only time would tell, and her heavy repeater would help bring back that peace one way or another.

Gotto was quick to take note of his fellow knight's anger. It was clear that there was strong emotions when it came to the Mandalorians, not just from Master Greystar. The Kage did, however, find it humorous what Rakaan had said in response to his concerns...

"If you're not comfortable, stay with the ship."

The truth of the matter was that he was always comfortable. Gotto followed simply where the force guided him. He was, by nature, a very basic man. Even as he dropped from the sky, there was a certain ease about his aura, a composure that kept his vision from the blindness of rage and frustration. Although, he was now beginning to wonder about the legitimacy of this mission. He had signed on rather absentmindedly, only paying attention to the 'kidnapped padawan' part. Had the council really sanctioned such a strike? Surely they could not afford a three front war. No matter. Gotto was committed now, and there was very little that could be done in the way of turning back.

His bare feet hit solid ground, digging into a thin layer of snow. Gotto spun his staff, clasping it much like one would a double-bladed lightsaber and allowing the force to flow through it. He opened in an Ataru stance, though a noticeably more relaxed one.

"Alright," Gotto began casually. "Put up your dukes!"

Silence.

The Kage knight scanned the surrounding area, looking for the rest of his team. Nobody. For that matter, there were no Mandalorians in the vicinity either. Hadn't he just been behind Master Greystar?

"Blast," he sighed, hanging his head in embarrassment. "Gone and lost myself again... I wonder..."

Perhaps this was the perfect opportunity for infiltration. Gotto certainly didn't look like a Jedi. He could easily pass for a homeless man who had lost his shirt. The Kage all but looked the part, so long as you ignored the fact that he smelled of scented candles, which he was very fond of burning while meditating. Seeing no opponent and an opportunity to resolve the situation rationally, Gotto casually strolled into the fortress.

After all the excitement of the past month, Shai was enjoying the moment of peace and quiet in the Karjr headquarters. Yuri was back with his dad and the Wardog had some time to catch a beer once she was done with all the tedious stuff around her new duties as Karjr.

”And here I thought filing after action reports with the Siks was bad…” She grumbled as she dropped her spent cigarette into an empty beer bottle. She had conveniently removed the ‘no smoking’ and ‘no drinking’ signs around the office space when nobody was looking. With her work done, the Shistavanen let out a sigh of relief as she rose and took her helmet. ”Who the kriff thought it was a good idea to file reports and stuff? Just shoot ‘em and call it a day, holy kriff…” She grumbled as she marched out and into the streets.

A smile formed as the crips air blew through her mane and along her features. However, an odd scent drifted across her nose as she wandered the streets. It wasn’t exactly pleasant… but the extra hints had her brow furrow in suspicion. She slinked to the shadows and followed the scent for a good few moments until an unfamiliar figure appeared in the streets.

”Can’t say I’ve ever met a hobo who smells like Jedi and scented candles. What flavour is that? Stupidity and vanilla?” She spoke up with a growl in her voice as a hand rested on the grips of her twin pistols. He definitely wasn’t a hobo… and there were far too many scents she had encountered before in the Coruscant and New Cov temples.

”Stay right where you are. Who are you and why are you here?” She asked him as she clipped her helmet to her belt. There weren’t any Jedi visitors cleared for landing on Kestri, though she wasn’t going to start trouble with one.

”Can’t say I’ve ever met a hobo who smells like Jedi and scented candles. What flavour is that? Stupidity and vanilla?”

A shistavanen Mandalorian had approached him, seemingly taking note of his intrusion. Walking in the front door was not doing to be as simple as he had hoped.

"They're actually lavender and wroshyr root," Gotto explained, seemingly unbothered by the Mandalorian's aggression. "They're handmade, and really are quite atmospheric."

She was quick to ask for his name and why he was here. Gotto began to wonder how he would answer such a thing. Why was he here? To save a padawan, obviously, but there was something else at play here that he needed to get to the bottom of. To do so, he would need to do some investigation. Being friendly with the Mandalorians could perhaps be of use.

"I'm afraid I don't know," Gotto frowned. "Not my name, I should clarify. That's Gotto. I wound up here rather absentmindedly, and worse yet I'm terrible with directions. I haven't had my... Chit!"

Gotto turned back for a moment, hoping to find the shuttle that had dropped them off. The skies were empty. The Kage sighed, hanging his head.

"I left my caf."

"Any Galactic Alliance delegates scheduled today? Specifically of the Jedi kind?"

"No. Would the Jedi even visit Kestri?"

"The Jedi are like cockroaches -- they visit everyone whether you want them to or not."

"Well, none today."
There was a brief pause before a lower tone came back, "Why?"

Zlova smirked to herself with the comm channel open. "Saw a ship, and just making sure I didn't bump into any unexpected guests. An innocent, red Mandalorian like myself and Jedi would get along like rocket fuel and open flame."

"Despite the color, I'd wager you're the fuel,"
the Control agent bit back.

Firecracker wasn't wrong. Zlova didn't mind being the agent provocateur. Life could get pretty boring at times and a Twi'lek could use company; so maybe sometimes she gave people a nudge. "Jorhaa'ir draar," Zlova quipped in response before she closed the channel. No need for them to know about the Jedi yet, right? Mandalorians might start getting all abuzz about nothing.

At least nothing Zlova couldn't handle. She could use the exercise. The Jedi could use the excitement. Win-win-win.

The Lethan strode down the streets with her golden eyes scanning the surroundings. Much as she could sense them in the Force, it didn't display a map with a red dot on it that screamed 'Sourpusses here.' Shame.

Shai couldn’t help but smirk at the man’s remark as she fished a cigarette out from a pouch and lit it with her vambrace flamethrower’s ignition. If she wasn’t dealing with a trespasser, she would have indulged in the small talk. But for the moment, she needed to figure out why Jedi were on Kestri without starting another intergalactic situation.

"I'm afraid I don't know,"

"Not my name, I should clarify. That's Gotto. I wound up here rather absentmindedly, and worse yet I'm terrible with directions. I haven't had my... Chit!"

"I left my caf."

Shai let out a plume of smoke through her nostrils as she watched him for a moment. He was doing the typical Jedi thing. ”Well, Gotto… here’s how it’s gonna go down. You’re gonna come with me to our station and I’m gonna contact Valery Noble directly so we can find out why the kriff one of her Jedi is on our homeworld, seein’ as you ain’t gonna tell me yourself.”

She slid her helmet on and opened a comms channel. :: Volo, come in. This is Shai. I, uh… got a Jedi here with me. Bringing him to HQ. Just lettin’ you know, put the others on alert. :: She looked back at Gotto with a hand resting on her pistol. ”If you come without an issue, I’ll give you the option of caf or hot chocolate. Otherwise, you’re gettin’ a stun bolt and tap water.” The smirk in her voice was evident, contrasting the emotionless T-visor of her helmet.

”If you come without an issue, I’ll give you the option of caf or hot chocolate. Otherwise, you’re gettin’ a stun bolt and tap water.”

"You got it," Gotto nodded. "Oh, you should take my staff. I wouldn't want to come into your home armed."

It was, seemingly, just an ordinary stick, but the fact that Gotto could imbue it with the force made it still considerably dangerous, even if he never used it to strike someone down.

"Probably wise to consult Master Noble," the Kage agreed. "She's frankly far more organized then I am. I do have some questions of my own that I need to ask her now that I think about it..."

What he really wanted to know was it this entire mission had been sanctioned. Given the relative confusion of the Mandalorians and Shai's hospitable nature in spite of his intrusion, Gotto was starting to suspect that this may have been a rogue operation that he had signed up for without paying attention. It seemed that his laziness was coming back to bite him.

"I must apologize again," Gotto sighed. "My chosen lifestyle has its... unforeseen consequences. Life lived moment to moment leaves very little room for forward thought."

Her mind wandered for a time, going through a checklist in her head of future plans.. But her daydreaming would be stopped as she turned the corner, spotting Shai escorting some strange man.

"What's with the hobo? Isn't he a little lightly dressed for this place?"

Mother then chimes in through the holoprojector.

"Too light, spending even an hour outside of this city in such attire would freeze you to death. I do not trust this, this one has arrived very recently. So called allies do not just wander in suddenly from the outside, they would arrive at the dedicated space port."

Venari squints at the man from under her visor.

"Momma has a fair point, they must be hiding something, or else they would have just docked at the port. I would raise an alarm if I were you, no one here wants to deal with any shady aruetiise after the imperials tried to kick down out front door."

She raises her heavy repeater, keeping it trained on the Jedi.

"Want a fellow pair of eyes while you escort this one? Or would you prefer for me to keep watch for any other suspicious people that try anything?"

Shai blinked as the man handed her the staff to confiscate. He had a point, and the Wardog knew that Jedi could get crafty with random items as weapons… but being intimidated by a stick was the last thing on her mind. She took the staff with a smirk before escorting the man to the Karjr headquarters.

"Probably wise to consult Master Noble,"

"She's frankly far more organized then I am. I do have some questions of my own that I need to ask her now that I think about it..."

"I must apologize again,"

"My chosen lifestyle has its... unforeseen consequences. Life lived moment to moment leaves very little room for forward thought."

Shai glanced over to the man with a frown. ”You’re tellin’ me that you’re trespassing on Enclave ground, risking a literal war with the Enclave… and you don’t got a clue why you’re here?” She asked him with annoyance in her voice. As they walked, another joined in the mix as well. A Krayt. Shai wasn’t familiar with the new arrival, but the markings were unmistakable.

”The Alliance ain’t stupid enough to risk war with us, they can’t afford a war on two fronts with both us and the Empire. Nah… I got a feelin’ that mister Gotto here’s busy with some kind of stupid mission. It’s all good, though. Val will be able to clear this up real quick.” She commented as she glanced at the Krayt.

"Want a fellow pair of eyes while you escort this one? Or would you prefer for me to keep watch for any other suspicious people that try anything?"

”Nah, you can tag along. What’s your name, by the way? Don’t think I’ve seen you when I was part of the clan.” She looked ahead as she spoke, a hand resting on Gotto’s shoulder to make sure he didn’t try anything.

Upon reaching the headquarters, Shai guided the man to a holotable and punched in the private contact details of Valery Noble Valery Noble .

:: Yo, sis. What’s up. I need you real quick. I found this guy wandering around Tor Valum and he ain’t telling me why he’s here. We don’t got any expected visits and I don’t wanna risk war by sending him back to y’all in a bacta tank. Can you tell me why there’s a Jedi on Tor Valum? :: She spoke as she spared a glance at Gotto and the Krayt.

Now that they were in front of the communicator, Gotto was finally comfortable in the fact that he would be able to warn the Temple about what had happened. It was best, he had deduced, that both Master Noble and the Mandalorians hear what had transpired at the same time.

"Master Noble doesn't know," Gotto piped up, still remaining calm. "I've deduced as much by now... Sorry for withholding this, but I felt it was best to inform you both at the same time. I have not done my due diligence of research, and thus have become a part of something that risks more than I could have imagined. For that, I apologize. Master Dhalinar Greystar was of the belief that his padawan was being held against her will at Tor Valum. He's organized a small strike team and is heading a raid on the Mandalorian's fortress as we speak. I... was unaware that the strike would be of this nature. When I heard that a student may be in danger, I signed on rather absentmindedly."

Gotto sighed, hanging his head. This wasn't his finest hour. Such thoughtless action made him part of something that risked a three front war. But, there was no time to feel guilt.

"We need to act fast before any more damage is done," the Kage reasoned. He turned to Shai. "Do you know where Sōla Taan is? I fear she may be the only one who can deter Master Greystar. I don't believe he's in a state where he'll listen to reason."

Seeing as the man was being friendly enough, Venari lowers her gun. Giving a slight nod to Shai as they invited her to tag along, no doubt for a little wild ride.
”Nah, you can tag along. What’s your name, by the way? Don’t think I’ve seen you when I was part of the clan.”

"Venari Krayt, I am a foundling. My father is Kragr... What do you mean by 'when I was part of the clan'?"

The headquarters seemed cozy enough, Venari taking the chance to rest her legs at a nearby chair. Though as the conversation between the Jedi and Shai went on, it only agitated the young woman more.

"So you are telling us that instead of simply talking like you did, the rest of those idiots are about to cause a chit-show right here on our doorstep, right after we just dealt with the Empire trying to play some games? Why can't people just leave this place alone?"

The woman lets out a frustrated sigh, her temper rising already.

"Has the alarm been raised? If not, we should raise it right now. Before some amped up self-righteous armed Jedi think they can just stomp around our home thinking they have authority."

Same shit, different day as they say. If they really wanted, Venari would gladly help Shai send some idiots home in either some body bags or bacta tanks.
