"We're going to the medical room on my ship, yes."

Kahlil smiled an even more dangerous smile as he just carried her off.

"We'll check on the Padawans once we're all healed up, mm?"

"...I was just joking," Valery tried with a sheepish smile as he carried her off into the Bastion and headed for the medical room. The Nobles got mostly patched up there, and by the time they left the ship, Valery was still in his arms and let out a long breath. "Fine, you win," she said finally with a groan, while her eyes met his for a moment. Still, she managed a grin and relaxed while he carried her towards where the Padawans would be sparring together.

Colette Colette and Katherine Holt Katherine Holt were training together, and Shan Pavond Shan Pavond and Corazona von Ascania Corazona von Ascania were getting started to face off against each other too. His Padawans up against her own.

"Hmm, this should be interesting, huh?"

The winged Padawan had been of a similar mind as Colette’s. She didn’t want to immediately attack, instead wanting to try and draw her opponent out to take the first move. But after a few seconds it became apparent neither were going to, so Colette ultimately made the first strike.

Katherine saw her initial movement coming, knocking her wooden stick out of the way. She allowed it, even took the jab to her chest. The Padawan let out a pained grunt as Colette’s stick struck true. Yeah, that was definitely going to leave a bruise.

But Katherine hadn’t budged. If anything, she just flashed a small grin.

After Colette had knocked her weapon to the side, Katherine swung it back around and held it low. A second after as her opponent's blow landed, the Padawan thrusted her own weapon forwards, delivering a couple quick jabs to Colette’s abdomen.

Katherine had remembered reading up about battles in the Archives. Of how they very often didn’t just devolve into trying to land blows against your opponent. There was also a psychological element to it, the idea of trying to get into the other's head.

And now Colette knew Katherine wasn’t beyond taking blows if it meant she could follow up with her own.

Katherine Holt Katherine Holt

Sturdy, good with her footwork and able to seemingly take a fairly good hit. If they were anything more like Colette they most likely favored countering attacks and opportunity strikes but that remained to be seen. At this point Colette had made too few mistakes to really know, and so it was for Katherine too. Each hit was a lesson given as much as a lesson learned, and they hadn't really taught each other anything at all.

There would be a bruise forming on Colette's abdomen, sure. One hit struck true, the other was given a poor block, but the rest weren't too difficult to avoid once she got into the rhythm of it.

So, at this point the only lesson learned was that Katherine seemed to lean into intimidation and that she favored quick and precise hits. The hit that Colette had landed was both far too easily given as it was taken, meaning that the opponent was either really good at faking it or Colette was weaker than she thought, and given the training regimen that Valery put her through, it was most certainly the former.

Still, it meant that Colette needed to break Katherine down. Once that final thrust came her way, Colette let go of her own stick with one of her hands and stepped into the attack, willingly taking it in order to close the distance between them.

A polearm was mostly effective at some range, right?

… And a fighter was only ever as effective as their footwork, right?

Colette tried to hook her foot around the redhead's lower leg to sweep it away, get her prone, and then punch her straight in the face should it have landed. If one of them wanted to go the psychological route, then Colette had absolutely no issue going physical.

Even though he sat down, he kept her in his arms and Valery didn't mind. She had her exercise for the day, felt relaxed, and now she got to watch her Padawans train without her for once. She hoped to see some of what she had taught them in their technique, or perhaps try things they had never tried before, now that they couldn't use the Force.

Especially Colette was quite likely to do well — she had quite a history without using the Force.

"I'm confident in mine, so sure. Just... let's make it something fun, alright? I don't want to put credits on Padawans fighting." she laughed and gave it some thought. "Hmmm, for each Padawan of mine who wins a spar, you have to give me a massage every day, for a week. So if both win, it's two weeks of daily massages." She flashed him a grin now.

"If your Padawans win, well, what do you want?"

"This is really hard, huh?"

"Y-yeah," Loomi nodded, taking Aliris's hand and getting to her feet. "I'm... just having a little trouble seeing."

Cailen was quick to appear as well and ask if she was okay. A flustered look came to Loomi's face. So many friends were just around now, concerned about her well being. It was refreshing. An awkward smile grew between her cheeks.

"I'm okay," she insisted. "They don't really hurt that bad."

That was unfortunately because she had experienced far worse, but she wasn't going to say that out loud.

"I... don't know how I'm gonna do this," the Godoan sighed, hanging her head. "I don't know how I'll get passed if I can barely see."

"I see you've arrived nice and early..."

Outside of the ring, Silas was walking over and calmly stretching off his arms at the same time. Today, he was going to be sparing his girlfriend in a bit of friendly competition. He wasn't going to take it easy on her, but he was going to be mindful of how much power he was going to be using. Silas didn't want to put someone he loved in the med bay for something like this, there was no point going that far in the first place.

Rolling inside, he got up and walked over to Thelma to give her a brief kiss on the lips "Let's have some fun huh?" Silas winked, before taking a few steps back to put in some last minute stretches. Even though it was a mismatch, it was sure to give Thelma some valuable experience in terms of coming up against a more powerful and bigger opponent.

Next time, Silas would have to do the same and pick someone that was going to be levels above him. Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble and Valery Noble Valery Noble were good choices for that, considering the pair of them were sure to make the most of the opportunity to throw him around a bit. Who knew though, youth was on his side after all...

Katherine couldn’t help but grin as she felt the adrenaline already starting to course through her body. It wasn’t too unlike when she spared with Kahlil or Shan, but this was different. Colette was not someone she had fought before, and more so she had trained under a different Master.

One who was a very frequent sparring partner to her own.

The Padawan suspected that not all of her attacks would land, but didn’t quite anticipate that Colette would mimic her previous action. Taking the strike in stride, in order to use it as an opening for a follow up attack.

Katherine should’ve expected it, but she hadn’t.

She felt a foot sweep against her leg, knocking her backwards. There was a flash of internal panic in Katherine, until she suddenly felt herself stop long before she should’ve. Katherine’s wings had stopped her, propping her up at an angle rather than being prone against the ground.

As Colette’s fist came towards her face, Katherine moved her head to dodge it. But she wasn’t done. She dropped her stick in order to grab Colette’s arm with both hands. Katherine followed it up with her own kick to her opponent’s leg, and utilising the fact Colette had thrown some of her weight into the punch, threw the other Padawan over her shoulder.

Katherine used her wings to push herself back up onto her feet.

"Face each other. Bow."

"R-right," Resh bowed stiffly, glancing over at the instructor as if for approval. He was still getting used to all the Jedi mannerisms. Then, the match begun, before Resh could even properly stand back up. The pureblood panicked and ducked the second he saw giant girl's foot heading right for his face. "Hey!" He went to the ground, and clung onto her standing leg. Presumably in an attempt to trip her, although he didn't put much more effort into the strategy beyond holding on tightly.

Duck, tuck, and roll. Colette's leg ached for a moment, but not to any extent she hadn't felt before. The stick flew from her grip, and as her back hit the ground she used the rest of the momentum to get right back on her feet and, with perhaps a little too much flair, got herself into a neat little three-point stance to consider her next move.

The wings granted Katherine superior stability it would seem. And, of course, yet again it was Katherine who had the length advantage of her polearm with Colette standing just outside of a convenient strike range. Going head on was stupid, but then fights were built on a foundation of stupidity to begin with. Colette set off with a skid to sprint towards not Kat but rather the stick that Colette had lost possession of.

She held it in her hands yet again, but only for a short moment before a well-practiced spear toss hurled straight for center mass; a diversion if ever there was one as Colette quickly latched onto Katherine's weapon to try and pry it out of her hands and discard it over by the side of the ring, out of reach for either of them.

"Ah, yeah. That- that makes sense."

And she had no idea what to say in response. She chewed her inner lip before glancing to the stranger. Another boy. And one actually close to her age for once instead of older like the rest. A stranger entirely, though. Without thinking she sort of slipped behind Loomi, just making sure that the older teen was between her and the person she didn't know. They were all Jedi, but here without the Force she was even more paranoid than she normally was.

".. Maybe we can't. By ourselves. But.. We can rely on other people, right? So.. I'll help you."

The Padawan’s wings flexed a little, almost akin to a peacock fanning its feathers to show off and impress. Katherine didn’t hear a distinctive thud against the ground, so she turned her head to see Colette had used the momentum to fall into a roll. Making for an impressive end as she stopped into a three-point stance.

Something she picked up from Valery, perhaps?

Katherine leaned down to reclaim her weapon, but never let her eyes leave Colette. Her Master had drilled in the importance of not losing your focus in the middle of a fight. The smallest of slip ups could cost you gravely.

She slipped back into a spear stance, waiting to see what her opponent’s next move was. Colette kept herself just outside her range, so that if Katherine did attempt a strike, it would be easily dodged. But the Padawan waited, observing Colette for whatever she was planning.

When she finally moved, Katherine went in for another jab. But hadn’t expected for Colette to go a different direction, thus it went completely wide. She turned to face her, only to have to quickly step to the side to dodge the stick that was thrown towards her.

A distraction!

But it was already too late, as Colette was quick to close the distance and grab ahold of her weapon. Katherine however did not relent, she held onto it with all her strength. Both Padawans were holding it equally with both hands, their arms stretching out to their full lengths. A thought of taking flight crossed the Padawan’s mind, but she quickly realised it wasn’t going to be possible. Without any decent elevation, she’d need to use the Force to give herself enough propulsion to get high enough.

A jump would have to suffice.

Katherine dug her feet in a little, spreading her wings out and angling them towards the ground. With a mighty flap of both she jumped up into the air and flipped over Colette. And she was still holding onto the weapon, they both were.

Collete’s arms were forcefully pulled up over her and behind. But the moment Katherine landed, she realised her error. Her own arms immediately ached with pain from the awkward move. Added to that, her chest began to burn with pain too, right on the spot Colette had struck earlier.

Katherine let out an audible curse as she let go of the weapon, stumbling forwards away from her opponent.

Ko had mixed feelings about feeling disconnected from the Force. In some ways it was nice to be relieved of its pressure and constant influence. Because of this he sometimes envied those who weren’t sensitive. However, it also reminded him of the dreadfulness during his fight on Chaldea. Where he fought against another teen who had the uncanny ability to suppress his own connection to The Force.

It was scary, to feel such a big part of himself to just go numb like that. So because of that he actually had some unique experience now having gone through such a stressful situation. The question was however, had Ko managed to use that constructively?

Now he was in the woods with the younger padawan. One who had wanted to spar with him in a setting like this before. The two seemed to almost be on an equal footing. Braze was being trained by Jasper, who was known for their proclivity for Makashi. A form he wasn’t too familiar with, but was noted for being likely the least reliant on one’s connection to The Force. Unknowingly though, Ko would have an appreciation for its focus on precision and subversion in fighting rather than power.

The Kel Dor on the other hand had an advantage as well in coping with a dampened connection to The Force against a trained adversary and managing a narrow victory and fighting another Padawan who was somewhat lacking in skill with The Force. Although he lost that encounter he still learned a lot. Enough to save his skin on Chaldea.

Watching Braze ready himself, Ko rolled his eyes behind his goggles over the arrogant words of his opponent. Grabbing his own hilt from his belt, he ignited his own green lightsaber. Unlike the pale boy’s ornate and complicated hilt, Ko’s was a lot more sleek and ergonomic. The flared pommel and tusba like handguard often help with the Kel Dor’s large clawed hands. The two of them have surely stepped up their game, both with some accomplishments under their belts now and masters to teach them more effectively.

“Don’t be too sure of yourself Braze, The Force won’t be able to choose any favorites today.” Ko replied, before assuming a stance for himself. Holding his lightsaber low in both hands pointing to the ground. It looked rather ‘foolish’ and unassuming. It was similar to the niman opening. Looking as though he had himself wide open for Braze to take the initiative. Ko was actually somewhat hoping to use Braze’s own confidence against him, by making himself look like an easy target.

"I have plenty of credits," Valery said with a straight face. "Yours~" Now she began to grin and leaned up into his arms to quickly peck his cheek to rub in her little bit of teasing. "You chose to share those with me when you proposed to me." She chuckled and turned her eyes back to the spar between Colette and Katherine, right as it was picking up.

Of course, she didn't care about the credits at all, but she just loved to tease him about it.

"Alright, I can agree to these terms. Massages for a week, up to a max of 2 weeks and the first winner decides who gets to relax first." Now this was a little bet she'd love. But on a more serious note, she did actually really like watching the spar. Both Padawans had been learning and improving a lot, and this was a chance to show some of it.

"They're doing great, huh?"

Katherine Holt Katherine Holt

In a sick way, this was kind of fun. Valery was always just that one step ahead in their spars on account of her experience in the field, but this whole thing with Katherine was something else. It was like a good reminder that not everyone that Colette would meet in the 'ring' would be as practiced as Valery would be and that in the end it all came down to endurance and the ability to use what tools you had to take the other person down.

And in much the same regards to 'bringing someone down' there was that small issue that was becoming more and more evident as the fight went on and it showed in the way her elbow seemed to pop just ever so slightly once her feet got off the ground. Had this been a 'real' spar she might have called it unfair, but this was a fight for survival and there were no such thing as 'fair' when it came to those.

Colette forsook her polearm for-the-sake of pushing the advantage. If those wings were such an integral part to Katherine's strategy, then the wings had to go. Colette threw herself with a tackle at the stumbling angel and wrapped her arm around Katherine from her chest to her shoulder as her other arm struggled to keep itself wrapped around both her wing and shoulder in an awkward grip.

There had always been a through line whenever Katherine had trained with Kahlil. She knew going into it, her Master wasn’t going to throw his all into the spars. He’d use his greater experience to teach her, but they always had a different energy to them compared to right now with Colette.

It was a clash of two inexperienced Padawans, pitting themselves against each other in a test of how well they could fight without the Force. That was after all, the whole point of this exercise on Myrkr. Jedi relied on something that could be silenced, meaning that a fight like that would have to come down to some ‘unfair tactics’ in order to survive.

Colette tackled her, and for a few moments Katherine remained on her feet. If this spar had happened back when she had first started training, she’d be at a greater disadvantage. Back then Katherine had difficulties keeping her balance with her wings.

Nonetheless, the pair fell to the ground. Though rather than having any momentum to straight slam Colette down, Katherine merely fell backwards. Her opponent's hold remained even then, and despite feeling one of her wings was loose, Katherine couldn’t angle it in any useful way.

Instead, she opted for the only other thing that cropped to mind in that moment.

Katherine began to slam her head backwards into Colette’s forehead.

A fierce yell from her left. Cora turned her head slowly, delicate eyebrows quirked about as high as they could go at the sight of Shan with his hands stretched towards her. Ah.

"You missed."

Her firm expression broke into something a little softer. Cora's lips couldn't help but pull into a smile at the Mirialian's antics. "It's good to see you too, Shan."

Darth Frosty. You pelt a guy with ice one time

She nearly winced when he asked what she was doing here. Not because his words were accusatory or harsh, but because of how loaded the answer to that question was. An awkward silence fell between them as Cora hemmed and hawed over how exactly to answer.

"Yes, everything is alright now." She assured him. Or at least, I hope it will be in time.

"My husband passed away. I trained as a Jedi before I was married, and given how he…departed, it was the best course of action for me to return to the Order."

It was all the truth. The very technical truth, which left out the fact that she'd pushed Horace from an open window when he'd threatened to take her younger sister as his concubine. Oops.

Dreidi Xeraic Dreidi Xeraic passed by on her way to the obstacle course and waved, which Cora returned with a smile to her friend. They'd have to catch up later. She turned back to the healer.

"Would you like to spar, Shan? I warn you that I am out of practice."

Of course, she might not have offered had she known that Valery Noble Valery Noble and Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble were making inappropriate bets.

As Braze stood confidently with his training lightsaber in hand, the absence of the Force in this duel presented a thrilling challenge—one he couldn't resist embracing. His bratty and playful nature was evident, but beneath it lay the keen eyes and skills of a skilled combative observer.

With a playful wink directed at Ko, Braze couldn't resist firing back, "Ah... the coward's approach again is it? Oh, don't worry, Ko. I promise not to go easy on you just because you can't feel the Force. Let's see how well you fare against my ~charm~ and ~skill~!"

Taking a moment to compose himself, Braze had to rely on his more nuanced skills in the absence of the familiar flow of the Force. Ko's seemingly unassuming stance intrigued him, hinting at a subtle strategy. However, Braze was no fool, and he knew better than to fall into an obvious trap.

Drawing inspiration from his mentor Jasper's teachings in the Makashi form, Braze adopted a poised and composed stance. At first, it seemed as though he was gearing up for an aggressive frontal assault, watching intently for Ko's telegraphed response. But at the last moment, he executed a spinning crescent step, hopefully surprising his opponent with his agility.

The advantage of being left-handed against Ko's right-handed stance allowed Braze to mirror Ko's grip, making his crescent step more fluid and effective. He would move to attempt to block what he thought would likely be Ko's attempted response in one seamless motion, using the momentum to position himself behind Ko's front flank and shoulder briefly as he completed a second spinning crescent step, before gracefully stepping back to into a cross step disengage, falling into the motion.

Braze's movements were unpredictable and fluid, reminiscent of flowing water. He was playfully testing Ko's defenses, toying with him in a manner that allowed him to get a better reading on his unique form and style..

What Ko might not have known was that Braze had been studying him closely for some time. The unique position of the elder Padawan held was one that garnered Braze's attentions, and fascination. While he might lack focus in the classroom, Braze compensated for it by becoming an astute observer of his peers and superiors during training. He carefully studied each individual's style, seeking to understand what made them unique.

Sword fighting for Braze wasn't just a solemn discipline; it was an exhilarating game he approached with exceptional glee. His interactions with Ko were not just a challenge to prove himself but also a way to understand the subtleties of his opponent's fighting style.
