Novermber is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)

National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, is a challenge where you write 50,000 words in 30 days, November 1 - 30. There's no judging or editing or whatever, just writing a novel in 30 days. It's been going on for like fifteen years or something now, and believe me when I say you can learn a lot about writing and your writing voice during a one-month period of writing all the time.

I am participating again this year, and I think [member="Darth Janus"] is planning to participate as well. Is anyone else from SWRP planning to do it? It's a lot of fun. We could stage virtual write-ins via Skype and have a little support group of our peers. Even if you're not planning to participate, please feel free to use this thread to encourage and/or hurl epithets at the participants.

NaNoWriMo link!

Cool! Post or PM your skype info and we can get a chat started November 1 (if you're interested) :)

I'm doing it for another site. And my goal this year is 100k. All IC threads. How's everyone else doing theirs? :)
That just sounds like a writing-by-volume goal. Which is OK, I guess? But not quite the same thing.

I'm going to outline my novel this weekend (hopefully) and start researching this week to hit the ground running next Saturday.

So excited!

The other site I am celebrates it that way, with IC content. There's a whole contest, and words in the millions ranges are generated, between the high volume of members and the large quantity of posts. I've already begun arranging the story arc I'm going to be roleplaying for my character. It's more than okay - it's awesome!

I've done it the "regular" way once or twice, but it's too painstaking for my tastes, and nobody reads my poodoo anyways.

To each his own, I guess? I don't get the point of excessive word count in RP for excessive word count in RP's sake, but there's a lot about today I don't particularly understand, so we'll add it to the pile.

So, is anyone else doing the real thing, NaNoWriMo? Ooh, I should add a link to the initial post.

Because it develops character. It's not "just because," that's a narrow view. Roleplay is roleplay. It's just an option people on RP sites can take. There are plenty of people, myself included, who write short novels as well.

A character's story is still a story, and still just as real. It's also a very rewarding experience writing with another. It's both unpredictable and interactive, and that can be a lot of fun for some people - especially people who find tedium in writing alone.

I've been doing it for years and I like it just as much as I like the "real" thing. :p

Fine, I give up. It's SO COOL that I literally can't even and gosh I wish I could play too. OK?

Maybe you could start a thread about it.

Huh. Looks interesting. Add me to whatever skype group is being organised - name's will.jreynolds - and I can peel off Google docs what I was kinda working on. Anyways, good luck and stuff. This could prove quite useful!
