SETTING INFORMATION
Structure Name
: MezNez Casino.
Classification: Casino/Hotel
Location: Efavan, Vorzyd V.
Affiliation: Enyo Typhos, Typhos Clone Family.
Accessibility: MezNez is one of the many lavish casinos on the gambling world of Vorzyd V. As such it is marketed by the many holographic advertisements in Efavan. This means it is quite well-known and usually a hive of activity, as various sentient beings flock here to make - and often lose - their fortune. The casino can be reached from Esfavan's main spaceport and there is a special docking bay for VIPs. However, the gambling paradise is heavily guarded and the security is formidable. People entering the casino must go through a screening procedure. But the owners do not care about a visitor's political or religious allegiance as long as they have money and do not cause trouble.

Description: The MezNez is a luxurious mega-casino located in Efavan, capital city of Vorzyd V. Here of means and those who dream of having them congregate in the hope that Lady Luck will grant them her favour. The casino floor is a living, breathing ecosystem populated by people with too much time on their hands. Some seek a fortune, others already had more money than they know what to do with, which is why they need the thrill only the risk of losing everything can offer. Between slot machines, dice and card games, holofights, miniaturised droid races and so on, there are plenty of ways to make a fortune here - or lose it all and end up a debt slave.

Here, there will be a rush of euphoria as a player scores a big win at a slot machine, accompanied by a triumphant roar. There, the same player might experience a parabolic descent into an abyss of despair and anger when he loses all he has gained - and more - at the next get-lucky machine, and all his savings are devoured by the ravenous beast that was the casino. Of course, the house always wins in such establishments. The interior of the casino is luxurious. It is meant to beguile the guest, make them feel like part of the elite and seduce them into coming back again and again. Music and bright neon lights abound.

Krovan Brandy, Mataa-Rahts and exorbitantly expensive caviar is served here. This is a place where fortunes are made and lost just as quickly. Security up front is formidable. Armed and admoured guards protect the entrance. Security measures include weapons' detectors, biometric security and bag checks. An assault is obviously not impossible, but a dangerous proposition. Moreover, the serving entrances are monitored. Hanging gangways extend from the casino and dock with walkways, which lead to the lower sections of the city. This allows goods and workers to enter and leave without being seen by the visitors. These entrances only open at shift changes or deliveries though. The MezNez makes ample use of surveillance droids.

As is common for such establishments, the MezNez features a VIP docking bay. This allows select visitors to land without having to share a space with all the riff-raff. Moreover, the casino features a luxurious hotel. Staying here is very expensive, as the hotel caters to captains of industry, nobles, crime lords and the like. The difference between these categories is often academic. The casino has a special lounge where clients can discuss business away from prying eyes and loud music. It goes without saying that many of these business dealings tend to be illicit in nature.

Select members of Enyo's power base may have rooms reserved there. Enyo disdains luxury and thus does not use it. Reserving a room here is extremely expensive, but they are luxurious and the staff is very attentive. As a rule, Enyo has a hotel room inhabited by a member of her 'enterprises' or a guest who is of interest to her bugged. She has a low view of subordinates or clone siblings who succumb to temptation and fully indulge in the creature comforts of the MezNez. The corridors of the hotel are wide and opulently decorated, with gaudy statues and exotic plants, intricate aquarium installations containing rare aquatic creatures. There used to be golden statues of Bogo the Hutt, the previous owner of the MezNez. However, Enyo had them melted down.

Speaking of the staff, Enyo has replaced key employees of the casino and the associated hotel with HRDs. This especially applies to employees who work in the control room or who handle the money, such as the head accountant. Droids do not need to sleep and cannot be bribed, so she considers them to be more reliable. Sometimes an Infiltration HRD or a
Doppelanger will be assigned to a mundane job in the hotel or casino staff in order to get close to a person of interest and spy on them. Both the casino and the hotel feature a comprehensive camera network.

Enyo took control over the MezNez in what amounted to a coup, so she is very security-conscious. There is an executive office on the top floor. An HRD manager oversees the various functions of the establishment from here. The office overlooks the casino's main gaming room. Enyo prefers the quiet and solitude of an unobtrusive, mundane looking backroom office. The establishment maintains a database of players who have earned a reputation for breaking the banks of casinos. Enyo employs a Force-Sensitive
Iktotchi from the Awakened as a cooler. This is a person who is tasked with breaking the winning streak of an unusually successful gambler, though this is employed sparingly.

Moreover, the MezNez features a control room, several restaurants and entertainment areas. There are a number of chambers in the basement level that are used for storage. The Terminatrix administers the MezNez via an ostensibly legitimate front company. However, insiders obviously know that it is a criminal enterprise. Mafia bosses have a reputation for screwing their clients over. But Enyo is quite disinterested in luxury. In many ways her way of thinking is quite droid-like. She takes a very hard line on corruption among her staff. It helps that many are droids. She takes a very poor view of minions who try to strong-arm or harass guests.

As a result, a stay in the hotel is actually quite safe because that is good for business. Of course, individuals who cause trouble are quietly eliminated or vanish without explanation. Sometimes they turn up again and suddenly have a very different attitude. Enyo is privately rather contemptuous of her guests. She was raised in a monastic way and finds fixation on frivolous pursuits such as gambling distasteful. The same applies to obsession with luxury in general. Of course, she has no problems with murder. Officially, Archangel has no connection to the MezNez. Indeed, Enyo uses a proxy to run Archangel and has no official association with the droidmaker.

POINTS OF INTEREST

Lady Luck's Palace: Enyo hates the name, but it has stuck. Her PR advisors have convinced her that changing it to a more logical, boring name would hurt the brand and lead to reduced revenue. Regardless, this area is home to the casino pits as well as more mundane forms of gambling. There are slot machines and tables as far as the naked eye can see. Moreover, huge screen monitors dot the walls, providing visitors with countless live matches and games to bet on, such as swoop racing, shockboxing and so on. The statistics are updated in real time and the information is provided in multiple languages.

Shuttle Deck: Self-explanatory. A place for shuttles to land and dock. There is also a more exclusive VIP bay at the hotel tower.

Eternity Prospects Bars Fortune's Favour: The restaurant for those who do not fit the VIP bill. Service and food are still good, but it is less exclusive. Or less pretentious, depending on your point of view.

Sapphire Club: An extremely exclusive restaurants for VIPs. Guests who do not fit the bill are turned away by security. The food is gourmet and there are large screens that enable visitors to follow games and the like. There are also dancers. Many an illicit deal has been hatched here.

The Emerald Lady: A high-class brothel and nightclub, for all those seeking a different form of entertainment. Some of the dancers and courtesans are organics, others are secretly Infiltration or Doppelganger Droids. Health checks are mandatory for organic employees and customers. The bouncers are quick to discipline clients who do not follow the rules. The rooms have been secretly bugged.

Executive Offices: Access to this area is restricted, requiring a special turbolift. This is where the management of the MezNez has its offices. The various business operations are coordinated from here. Enyo is is not on Vorzyd often, but has an office space here. Ironically, her office might be the blandest.

The Den: Located in the basement. Its existence is all but unknown outside of certain members of senior management and the people who work here. This is actually the hub of the Typhos Clone Family's surveillance operations in the city. Indeed, it is a full-fledged signals intelligence facility, enabling its employees to intercept, decode and collate transmissions. Needless to say it is also used to spy on the guests of the MezNez. Only droids are employed here. It is run by one of the
Special Surveillance Teams. The room is equipped with a BRT Supercomputer. Electronic surveillance and computation power is also used to detect and unmask potential cheaters in the casino.

Containment: The prison and detention area. The doors to the cells are made of Turadium. Two cells have ysalamiri in olbio trees perched above them. Intruders and troublemakers who are not eliminated outright are not kept here for long. Instead, they are discreetly transported to a more secure facility. The cells are able to disperse poison gas to liquidate prisoners if required.

Aurium Towers: The lavish hotel that is attached to the casino. A turbolift connects the two. The hotel features amenities such as several restaurants, pools, spas, gyms, a dance hall, conference rooms and a night club. The rooms are opulent, sound-proofed and have hidden surveillance equipment installed. Enyo dislikes it and rarely visits. However, she recognises that it is good at filling her coffers with money.

Patrician Lounge: Here the cream of the crop - or simply those who have so much money that they can buy respectability - can enjoy some peace and quiet away from the loud music and the 'common gamblers'. No one may enter without the right pass, no matter who they are. This is a place for the big fish to meet, do business and enjoy some respite. Attentive waiters and waitresses are on hand to serve the guests. The bars are well-stocked with liquor. The discerning customer may also sample more illegal wares.

Room Z: A panic room the Hutt and his minions could escape to in case of attack. Enyo now uses it to store some more valuable items than even the vault. It is a useful place to store blackmail material on her 'associates' on the planet. For this reason, security is extremely tight.

Adamant Vault: Informally known by the clones as Enyo's Purse. She is not amused. Regardless, the vault is heavily fortified, with cybersecurity, Turadium doors and antitamper software. It has been designed to withstand a baradium blast. Access is heavily restricted and it is always guarded by HRDs. The casino cages are nearby.

Throne Room: A former grand reception room where Bogo the Hutt used to hold court. Naturally it had a grandiose, gilded throne. Since the takeover, it has been remodelled and it is no longer a reception hall. Enyo had the throne melted down. She now uses the room to store unused furniture. Much to her annoyance, the old name has stuck. For some reason, no one else thinks Storage Room 1 is a good name.

Staff Accommodation Area: The MezNez's former owner had indentured servants. This was where they lived. Enyo finds both slavery and indentured labour inefficient and not worth using. Instead she has converted this place into an HRD repair bay and recharge area.

Control Centre: The security and control hub. A full-scale lockdown of the MezNez can be initiated from here, triggering ray shields, closing doors etc. Access is extremely restricted and limited to senior staff and security personnel. Most of the staff consists of HRDs.

SECURITY
High

  • The MezNez has 360 degrees of audio and video surveillance. It has a comprehensive network of surveillance cameras and listening equipment. Many areas in the MezNez have been bugged. This particularly applies to those areas where people are likely to let down their guard. The section called the Den is a full-fledged signals intelligence outpost.
  • Keycards are required to access sensitive areas, which are also guarded by layers of biometric security. The code needed to access an extremely important area is very long because droids. Ray shield projectors can be triggered from the control room.
  • The MezNez features heavy blast doors, R-TechApp Man Traps (concealed at the main exits and entrances), BAS44 Customs-Grade Holoscanners and concealed pop-up turrets. The turrets are activated if the MezNez is placed uner lockdown. Security scanners and weapon/explosive detection sensors are also security assets of note. Enclision grids have been set up in certain sensitive areas the public should not access.
  • Cybersecutiy measures include Rapid Repetition Defence Measures, Pyrowalls and Socketguards.
  • The MezNez has a contingent of security guards employed by Enyo. These are members of her paramilitary consortium. Many are organics, but leading positions are occupied by HRDs and Ambrosia Droids. Several of the organic guards are cyborgs. It is worth noting that some HRDs are disguised as more mundane employees, such as waitresses, dancers or maintenance personnel. Thus an employee who seems harmless may actually be an assassin droid. Stecher Wasp Droids are used for surveillance, as they are like a mechanical fly on the wall. Two Overlord Heavy Combat Droids are secretly kept in reserve and deployed in case of a serious emergency. A couple Fenris Cyber Mastiffs are used as guard dogs. Some have been ‘skinned’ to appear like a regular dog, kath hound or other canine like animal.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The MezNez mega-casino has come into the possession of Enyo Typhos fairly recently. However, its ties to organised crime predate her acquisition. The casino used to belong to Bogo the Hutt. As the name implies, he was a Hutt crime lord. As is typical for that sort, he had expensive tastes. However, he also had many rivals. One of them was the Ezatz Family, an influential mafia group. As part of a local power struggle, the Ezatz family's patriarch hit the MezNez hard and Bogo retaliated in kind. The Hutt's son was taken out in a drive-by on his speeder yacht. Bogo went underground and only appeared on holovids.

Business continued at the mega-casino and those who alleged the Hutt was no longer in control were quickly silenced. Indeed, he kept appearing via hologram. In truth, the Hutt was dead. His Chevin 'Vizier' used a projection to maintain the illusion that he was still in charge. Then Enyo and her 'enterprise, the Iron Fist Consortium, showed up on Vorzyd. Her first step was to interfere in a gang war between three youth gangs. One of them was led by Maris Fero, who had a violent confrontation with Enyo.

Noting that the girl was Force-Sensitive and, moreover, recognising a kindred spirit, Enyo took Maris under her wing. She proceeded to cow the rival gang bosses and force them join her Lawful Evil campaign of 'ordering' the underworld. Maris supplied her with intelligence on the local criminal underworld. The story of the casino caught Enyo's attention. With the help of Maris, she came up with a plan to infiltrate and seize control of the establishment. While Maris snuck in to open an entrance for Enyo and her troops, using her infiltration skills, an HRD called Charlotte infiltrated the casino to undermine security and investigate the rumours surrounding Bogo. Enyo, Maris and her minions faced a tough fight as they battled the local security contingent.

Ultimately, after a lot of bloodletting, it was discovered the Hutt was long dead. Infiltrating the secret chamber from where the transmissions were being made, Charlotte took control and helped Enyo cow the cartel's lieutenants by faking a broadcast of the Hutt, who denounced the Vizier and his co-conspirators as traitors and announced an alliance with Enyo's gang to retake the underworld. As a 'reward' for ridding him of a traitor, the MezNez was 'ceded' to Enyo and her associates. Thus the Iron Fist Consortium and the Typhos Clone Family set up shop in their new business enterprise.

To all outward appearances, very little changed and business as usual continued. However, behind the sceness Enyo was busy consolidating her control and purging the MezNez of unsuitable employees. Those who aroused her ire, were corrupt or knew too much were quietly removed. She also initiated an overhaul of the security measures. The MezNez had always been heavily guarded, but she had been able to infiltrate and seize control, so there was reason to be thorough.
