It had been months since Adrian's death, but Ingrid's condition hadn't improved since then. Grief and pain were not relieved; the only thing she could do was try to live with it all. But she found no joy in anything, neither in her sons nor in Tubrok. Since Adrian’s death, she has never flirted with her other husband, and played with him not a single small game that is so characteristic of the relationship between the two of them. She did not sleep, did not eat, fled to work. For her, work has always been the first, but now it was almost the only thing.

Meanwhile, she also forgot that Adrian was dead. At least for those few hours. It’s not like she wanted to live so much; she just existed and did her duty. The Empire needed her, she had to do her duty. This could at least be done without as much emotion as possible. The Empire saw the strong, unshakable ruler, but that was not true. She was broken, she felt herself everything but not strong. She was a wreck. In vain was Tubrok there…

When she wasn't working, she was in the lab in the basement of the palace to work on how she could bring Adrian back and resurrect him. Probably many would have called her obsessed; Ingrid was just desperate. In vain are the myriad new inventions she has already discovered and implemented. While she was working during the day, she was here at night in the lab. If she had always eaten enough vitality, she did not need to sleep or rest.

She was afraid to close her eyes, and was afraid to sleep because she saw in front of her the images shared by Runi Verin Runi Verin as the woman was killing Adrian. Or just their time together, the man's smile, the glimmer in his blue eyes. She missed him so much, she could bear less and less. The Empire flourished, more than ever, yet its leader, the Empress, wanted nothing more than to die. Something Onrai Onrai made a damn hard for her when she called the red-haired woman to Endor. She just wanted to be with Adrian, but without losing Tubrok either, because she couldn't live without him.

But she hadn't been able to let her other husband close ever since. She didn’t want anyone near herself, she didn’t want to be attached because the next such loss would have actually destroyed her. The task she had been working on for hours again proved to be a dead end; it was already late at night, or rather already at night. Helplessly swept off the things on the table, which then shattered to pieces on the ground. And Ingrid fell to her knees in the middle of the lab, sobbing loudly…
