Private Lost At Sea

Somewhere out in the Outer Rim...

Curled up in a corner wearing her teal and black spacesuit, Brie looked up sourly at the flickering light in the brig aboard the unregistered Baleen-class heavy freighter. She had been captured and locked up by space pirates before, but this time it was different. Last time, she had not had the friends that she had now. Friends that she had gained through the great, big and crazy heart of Daiya Daiya and since being introduced to Darkwire. Hex Hex . Her sister Ruby Jaxx. Her boyfriend Cassus Akovin Cassus Akovin . Heck, she even missed the bum of all bums Cartri Keswoll Cartri Keswoll . She glanced down at the old, white space helmet; the Fishbowl, which Cartri used to call it, and laid a gloved hand on it and pulled it closer.

Through the years of being a salvager and more recently a Shadowrunner in Darkwire, she had learn to be patient, though. To find the right moment to fight back. To flee, and to be free and able to continue the search for her parents. She almost had come to accept that she would not be able to succeed with the latter. After all late those late evenings with Ruby trying to talk sense into her and comfort her in a very Ruby kind of way, which was the best way a sister could ever ask for. Soon after the capture, which included Brie's own B-29 light freighter, they had hit hyperspace so probably no one knew where to look for her. There was still a small spark of hope within the young Shadowrunner, one that had burn through worse situations.

Suddenly, the door to the brig opened with a loud hiss and a man with long filthy hair and an enamel eye entered with a tray of barely warm food. Brie side-eyed him defiantly as he approached and put the tray down by her feet.

''For a young girl, you don't look that scared... '' the pirate remarked with a toothy grin.

''I've been through worse, hutt-spawn...'' Brie snorted and looked away from the food. ''My friends are going to find me and make you regret ever capturing a Shadowrunner.'' she added.

''Oh, so I heard! You're a terrorist, aren't ya? Then we have more in common than you think...'' the pirate responded.

''I'm not a terrorist! And our cause is far far different than yours!'' Brie finished, wanting to keep the conversation as short and sparse as she could.

"Face it BB," Jax grumbled looking over his navigator. "Your calculations were waaaayyyyy off, look at this! We're in the fringes of the Outer Rim! We're not in Naboo!"

<Jax!> BB-12 beeped. <You were the one who gave me the coordinates right?!>

"Yeah!" Jax said accelerating the X-Wing towards a suitable Hyperspace Lane. "But it's your responsibility to make the necessarily calculations to jump us into Lightspeed! Do I see Naboo in orbit?!" Jax pressed a couple of buttons displaying the map. "Oh look at this BB!" Jax said. "Does that say Mid Rim? Noooo, it's the fracking Outer Rim!"

The Jedi Master gave a heavy sigh shaking his head process. "And it's not even near any remote planets!"

<That just means you need a better Lightspeed calculator!> BB-12 whirred. <Look what I have to work with! This program is so ancient, it's showing signs of dementia!>

"That doesn't make any sense!" Jax yelled. "My book tour off to a great start! I had to have Jairdain Jairdain pull some strings to get this Podracing book tour. The Alliance has putting heavy restrictions on Podracing and my Holobook would dispel some myths behind the sport."

<The book is pretty bland Jax!> BB-12 beeped. <It's the equivalent of taking sleeping pills!>

"Piss off," Jax growled. "You don't read BB all you do is drink and eat Pizza all day!" Jax looked at the radar noticing a faint signal ahead. "Son of a gun," Jax muttered. "I'm picking a signal."

<Oh I got it on the sensors!> BB-12 beeped. <It's a large whopper! Baleen Class!>

"Probably big time Smugglers," Jax said. "A freighter that large is either working for a company or they're gangsters."

And given that they were in the Outer Rim, the latter was most likely.

<Okay Jax I got the coordinates to Naboo!> BB whirred. <For real this time! Shall we go your highness? Before we get caught?>

"No....." Jax stared off blankly into space.

<Oh chit!> BB whirred. <It's the- I sense something in the Force look! Whenever that happens we always get into trouble!>

"You're more observant than I thought," Jax said as the ship came closer. "I sense a familiar person in that ship, It feels..... like they're in danger......"

<Uhhhh Jax,> BB beeped. <We're being hailed!>

Jax snapped back into reality. "Patch them in!" Jax said. "I have a feeling that those people and I are going to be very friends soon."

From the bridge of the Baleen-class heavy freighter, the pirate captain narrowed his eyes as his crew made contact with the unknown starship that just had come out of hyperspace and within the reach of their sensors. Two prizes, two captured ships with crew and cargo in a day, was a very rare occurrence. An opportunity not to be neglected by the greedy Outer Rim scum. Greed was also common between salvagers, but Brie had since long learned how easy it was to crash and burn if you let it go to your head. She was learning to embrace patience, to bide her time for the right moment to fight or flee.

<''Unidentified ship? Heave to. You got a battery of heavy turbolasers aimed at you, which lasers will travel faster than your sub-light engines would manage to push that piece of junk of yours... If you cooperate, no harm will come to you or your crew... as long as you pay a little... tax.''> the pirate ship transmitted over to the starship, all while the crew activated the tractor beam and locked onto the smaller ship.

Meanwhile down at the brig, Brie had turned her head away from the pirate. His shadow loomed over her for a moment, and Brie held her breath and prepared herself to be kicked or worse, but nothing came her way. The shadow left her with heavy steps and the sound of the cell door closing made her exhale in relief and glance down at the food she had been given. She was not that dumb to kick it out or let it go to waste. Of course, the pirates didn't want to kill her by poisoning her. They wanted to put her in a slave collar and sell her to the highest bidder. An equally frightening destiny, to be honest, when Brie thought about it.

The food looked like some kind of soup, with a lump of bread to go with it. Brie leaned away from the cold wall and reached for the tray pulling it closer to her, before she grabbed the spoon and the bowl and gave it a sniff. Ughh, not like the food served at The Blue Flame, that was for sure! Brie thought, as she tasted the soup and took a bite of the bread to eaven out the bad taste. Her thoughts lingered around Daiya Daiya and Ruby. If only they knew about this, now Brie didn't know how long it would take til they realised they could not reach her and begin missing her. Everyone had their own little chaoses to go through after Darkwire was chased down The Tombs and now tried to get themselves to the feet in smaller groups to start with. What Brie didn't know, was that her thoughts reached far beyond and outside her own head. They were carried by The Force, and everyone gifted with it would be able to pick it up, so to speak. Brie continued to munch on the bread and slurp on the soup, knowing that she would need the strenght then the time came. If it came...

Jax tried to turn off the music but BB-8 maintained connection. "What hell are you doing?!" Jax muttered.

<Jax> BB-8 beeped. <This is no stress express! You gotta remain calm under pressure and what better way to soothe your soul than some music.>

"Stop projecting YOUR anxiety and fears BB," Jax said. "We both know that it's you who panics a lot in these situations!"

<No Jax, I always recommend that you kill them all.> BB whirred. <We got the bomb let's use it to blow the damn ship and get going! I want to eat some Naboo style coleslaw!>

"Not yet....." Jax said his gaze shifting towards the ship. "I sense a familiar presence I'm going to turn ourselves in."

<Then you're the biggest idiot I've ever met.>

"Who's more idiotic?" Jax asked. "The idiot or the idiot who follows him?"

<Frack your fortune cookie chit.>

"I'm shutting down combat systems," Jax said pressing a few buttons on his console. "Feel free to use your tractor beam to freeze us in place."

A freighter like that definitely had a tractor beam used to bring in damaged ships. As he waited for a response, Jax remained focused on the Force calling to him. Who was in that ship? Either way he trusted the Force that he was going to get through this intact."

Brie had been aboard too many spaceships not to notice any change of its speed or course. She stopped chewing on the dry bread for a moment, looked up the ceiling and listened. The pirate ship had come to a halt, and the sound from its generators and other systems connected through a web of pipes and cables in the walls behind her and the roof above her, started to change. Something was up. She couldn't exactly imagine Daiya Daiya piloting something bigger and more bad than this vessel, but they had people who could. At least before The Tombs.

She slurped up the last amount of soup right from the bowl got up on her feet, curious of what had brought the ship to a stop when they were probably in a hurry to the nearest slaver world and the pirates had credits in sight. Brie brushed herself off somewhat and approached the cell door for a peak outside the steel bars. The brig was quiet. Some alien species snoring in the nearby cells. Brie could do no more but to prepare herself for when the opportunity presented itself.

A deep sigh left her, just before she sensed something strange. A familiar feeling. A feeling resembling the one she had experienced on Terminus, and even later after that. It was quite common for most people to feel the presence of their close friends or loved ones, but mostly when they were very close. This however, was something else. Her ears perked and her hearing seemed to ever so slightly become hightened.

Meanwhile, the pirate vessel opened its giant hatch and reeled the smaller ship in like a bigger fish devouring a much smaller one. The pirates started to wonder what it was carrying, and how much bigger their payout was going to be.

<You know Jax,> BB-8 whirred.

"What is it?" Jax leaned against his seat seeing that his controls were disabled thanks to the tractor beam pulling them in. He knew that BB was going to say something crass to him. The two have been butting heads since Jax was a kid and while BB was a foul vocabulatored droid, they always worked together to get out of unfortunate situations like the one they're in.

<When I die,> BB beeped. <You stay away from my funeral.>

"Noted," Jax said as the disturbance in the Force became stronger the closer his X-Wing got to the hangar. Already, Jax could see armed mercenaries: 12 by his count huddling close to the platform ready to take Jax in.

"All right buddy," Jax said. "When we land, let me do the talking all right. Mute yourself and don't try to kill anyone like you did last time."

<I said I was sorry.> BB beeped. <If it makes you feel better, I removed his decapitated head from the toilet.>

A heavy sigh escaped Jax as the X-Wing gently landed, he grabbed his Lightsaber which was clipped on his belt, then placed it on a small chute next to him where it'll go towards BB-12's compartment chamber for safekeeping. "And here we go." Jax mumbled.

Brie listened intently for any sounds coming from outside the brig. She didn't know it, yet, but while concentrating she also reached out and felt through The Force. Raw, untrained and undiscovered. She were totally unaware that an opportunity to explore that would soon present itself. Now however, she just prayed that someone, anyone would find out and at least give her an opportunity to escape.

A stun baton suddenly hit the bars of the door, with sparks erupting which made her jump and lose her balance falling backwards. She shuffled backwards and throw a glare upwards to the pirate man standing outside and grinning down at her with a couple of metal teeth showing.

''What are you doing, girl?! Something's wrong?'' the pirate said, followed by a mean laugh.

Brie snorted and shook her head no. ''N-no... I just... Need to go to the refresher... Like, really need it...'' she uttered, hoping that the man would let her. She were unarmed and like half the size of the pirate, after all. The pirate looked at her for a moment, obviously considering his mandate, before he swiped a key card and opened the door.

''Let it be quick!''

A tiny spark of hope ignited within Brie, but she kept it well hidden and got to her feet and walked out of the cell with the man following her to the refresher.

"All right!" Ten armed and armored mercenaries surrounded Jax's X-Wing their weapons drawn at the cockpit. A large, scarred man approached the X-Wing a cigar stuck in the corner of his mouth. "Come on out! Any sudden movements and my men will be lighting you like a Life Day tree!"

"I wouldn't even dream of doing that!" Jax responded as the cockpit hissed open. The Jedi Master raised his hands up high giving the mercenaries a wide grin. "You are all VERY SMART people! I would be an idiot NOT to do anything rash!"

"Then come down now!" Jax jumped off his X-Wing while the merc leader walked towards him sending his fist to Jax's solar plexus. Jax gave a cry of pain falling to his knees. Truth be told, Jax would've used the Force to send them all flying but he was in their territory. There must be hundreds of mercs maintaining this ship. Not to mention the ships inside defenses.

"Scan the ship," The merc leader said cuffing Jax. "And bring the Droid to the Butcher, I'm sure there's a lot for him to dissect."

"Dissect?" Jax muttered as he was grabbed by his hair and pushed towards a Rodian merc.

"Get him to a cell," he said. "Preferably next to the girl, I'm sure she must be lonely."

''I said; Be quick about it!'' the foul man shouted at her from outside the door to the refresher, and slammed his hand against it so hard she jumped. Brie hurried to finish what she were doing, unlocked the door and stepped out. She frowned at the man who hard-handedly grabbed her by the neck and led her down the corridor back towards her cell. She grunted somewhat to the rough treatment, but held in on the words that were created in her mind for the man.

Suddenly, the door to the brig hissed loudly, signaling to them both that they were getting company. Another prisoner? Was it what all the new noices was about? The pirates had caught yet another innocent space traveller? Well, Brie wasn't truly innocent any longer after hooking up with Daiya Daiya and Darkwire. Stars, she missed them all so much right now! The sound got Brie to instinctively turn her head. She saw a man in a flight suit. Maybe an Alliance pilot? But that made no sense, as she thought military units seldomly operated alone, and these pirates would probably have been mangled by a squadron of Alliance fighters. He didn't look like a smuggler, either...

As they reached the cell door, she thought that she recognised the man. She had to take one more good hard look at him as the pirate led him towards a nearby cell. It was that guy that had encouraged her to search for and delve deeper into her supposed abilities within The Force! The Jedi! Brie's heart was filled with hope having a Jedi in the room. Her mind raced as she thought about a plan. Only thing was that she had none! They were about to be locked up, so she thought that if there was a time to be rash, it was now!

Brie draw a deep breath and charged an elbow backwards as hard as she could, aiming for the pirates stomach and then turned to swing a punch at his face. Fingers crossed that this worked, and that the man got the picture to act himself!

"Oi!"

As mercenary pushed Jax into a cell, he pointed his Blaster Pistol at who seemed to be a young girl. Jax could feel the Force vibrating inside of him. That girl.... she looked familiar. Jax quickly got up and witnessed his handler continuing to point the Pistol at the girl. "What the hell you think you doing eh?!" He snapped. "You thought you could be clever?! Huh?!"

"You're a very smart man," Jax said rolling his eyes. "Nothing ever gets past you."

"That's right!" The man said nodding. "You think you can hurt my friend and leave this place?! Well guess what, that ain't gonna happen! Now get back to your cell!"

He picked up his partner who was clutching his stomach. "Be thankful that the boss wants you alive!" The guard yelled. "Otherwise I would've melted your brain!"

As they left, Jax walked over to the girl. "Brie?" Jax said. "Is that you?!"

The pirate had managed to block the punch, and before Brie could get another chance a blaster were pointed at her face. She froze, but glared at their captors before she were again shoved into the cell and watched as the door shut close with a loud slam.

''Jerks...'' she mumbled under her breath as she turned to walk towards the simple, very uncomfortable bed that each cell was fitted with.

As they left, Jax walked over to the girl. "Brie?" Jax said. "Is that you?!"

The mention of her name made her stop in her tracks and turn towards the voice. ''Yeah... So much for being a Jedi, huh? We need something bigger than your all mighty Force now. We need a miracle...'' she said in despair, but also in disappointment of the mans supposed powers that seemed to have been left where he came from. Brie slumped down on the bed, a deep sigh leaving her.
