Major Faction Application Lords of the Sith

Name: Lords of the Sith
OOC Hierarchy:
IC Hierarchy:
Lords of the Sith - Government (x)

Government:
Like all Sith Organizations, there is an essential 'Order' that must form. It is the nature of the Sith to establish their reputations based on personal power, and the Lords of the Sith are no different - having formed a simple pyramidal hierarchical structure. The hierarchy of the Lords of the Sith is direct and straightforward, with only one simple rule: all positions can be taken, either be taken by direct challenge and must be defended regularly. It is imperative that the Order is led by the strong, and that the strong are led by the strongest. This - and nothing else can correct the systemic weakness that plagues the current Sith Empire.
  • Upper Echelon -
    • The Emperor of the Sith
      • As the name suggests, the Emperor of the Sith is a rank gained by only the strongest among the Sith. It is not a rank with a chosen successor, a primogeniture inheritance, or any other sort of 'given' entitlement. The Rank is only taken - either through Kaggath, or a Tournament of Claimants should the Emperor die from outside the Order's machinations. While the Emperor's power is absolute, it can be challenged by those who have proven themselves in the Upper Echelons of the Order.
    • The Dark Council
      • Formed from those chosen by the Emperor, or those who have proven themselves through combat, the Dark Council is equally as strong as the Emperor in administrative measures. Separated into three ranks, they monitor and deal with the mundane needs of the Empire for all day to day dealings. Carrying more weight than the Dark Lords, they are to be feared in presence, for it is they who have proven themselves closest to matching the Emperor's power.
        • Will of the Emperor
          • Collectively the greatest administrator in the Empire, the Hand serves as the controlling voice of all things to deal with Law and Coin. Able to loan the Emperor's funds out at will, or change laws as they see fit - they are often peerless in their intelligence, able to challenge the greatest minds in the galaxy. They are chosen for their skills as adjudicators, bankers, and scholars.
        • Fist of the Emperor
          • More generic in what outsiders might assume of the Sith, the Fist of the Emperor serves as the greatest military mind the Sith have to offer. The final word on keeping the Emperor's Peace, marshaling Empire forces, or handing out the Emperor's legions as rewards - the Fist serves as both the General of all the Emperor's followers, but also the daily running of the military. They are most often chosen for their tactical mind but are often known to be chosen for their sheer presence and skill - knowing that others will fear the Fist for their appearance on the battlefield, which can be just as worthwhile to the Sith as a tactical genius.
        • Eye of the Emperor
          • Leader of the Sith Religion and its doctrine within the Empire, the Eye serves as the greatest zealot among zealots. Feared for their nigh omniscient foresight, they serve to warn the Emperor of threats both within and without - but also to find anyone who would betray the goal of the Lords of the Sith. Often, this makes the Eye the most important role within the Empire, as they can single-handedly keep the Emperor on the Throne, or help remove them if they so wish. Often, they are chosen for their ability to maintain spy networks, knowledge in the Sith, or diplomatic connections far and wide.
  • Middle Echelons
    • High Lords of the Sith
      • The highest conventional rank in the New Sith Order, the High Lords reign over their autonomous states at the behest and will of the Emperor. Reigning over entire sectors, they can wage war against fellow High Lords, domineer over lesser lords, or otherwise partake in diplomacy at their behest - they are beholden only to the will of the Emperor, and only if the Emperor can truly ensure control over the High Lord. It is not a rank given, but one claimed - forged through manipulation, battle, or diplomatic connections; the High Lords of the Sith are the rank all Sith should seek to become, embody, and exemplify.
        • Rules over Sectors, Lords of the Sith, and runs an autonomous state within the Empire itself. Control their military, Sith, and are beholden to only the Dark Council and Emperor.
    • Lords of the Sith
      • Domineering over Planets, the Lords of the Sith are the rulers that listen only to the High Lords they are sworn to. While they may scheme to overthrow their High Lords, through the will of the Dark Council or other High Lords, they are in essence beholden to the will of the High Lords until they can challenge them. Often, this means Lords of the Sith are not as strong as their leaders - but that is not universal, as many simply choose to stay planetary governors for the sake of family or clans. Controlling planetary fleets, militaries, and actively establishing their governmental bodies - the Lords of the Sith is necessary for the micromanagement of the Galaxy's planets.
        • Rules over Planets, Knights, and run their planets as they see fit - with as much freedom as their High Lord allows. Beholden only to their sector leader and High Lord, they do as they see fit.
  • Lower Echelons
    • Knights of the Sith
      • The lowest landed title, Knights of the Sith serve their lords respectively. Able to be claimed by the Emperor as a member of the Praetorians, or High Lords and Lords as personal enforcers, the Knights of the Sith are those who have either proven themselves are true Sith and chosen not to rule, or given a fief by a Lord or High Lord. These fiefs are often smaller planets with lesser infrastructure or city districts on more developed planets. Those who do not take a fief but become a Knight are known as 'Ronin' - and it is these Ronin who do not lead governmental bodies that are the most diverse in their skill. With some being nothing more than Sith unable to prove their skill, while others are legendary duelists and powerful actors who have made a name for themselves on their skill alone - choosing to avoid the conventional means of raising themselves.
        • Knights rule fiefs at the behest of their Lords or High Lords, be it cities or underdeveloped planets. The lowest rank within the Sith structure, they do as they are required to by their lord.
        • Ronin does not rule, nor do they always answer to a Lord. Ronin are Sith who wander, proving themselves through combat and reputation rather than the administration of governmental bodies.
    • Acolytes of the Sith
      • Unlanded, unproven, and without power; the Acolytes of the Sith serve directly as squires and pages to Knights and Lords. While Ronin have proven themselves and simply forgoed a Master, Acolytes hold no such ability to stay separated. Answering directly others, they are the greatest in number of the Sith coming directly from the next generation, but also because the more powerful the ranks above them, the greater the contest it is to prove themselves as viable leaders. This means that acolytes must not only compete with the most contenders but also that they get the least respect for the position until they do.
        • Great in number, widely varying in skill, an Acolyte remains an acolyte until they are given a chance to prove themselves. This can be in combat, skill in administration, or otherwise - they serve as the backbone of many Sith campaigns in the galaxy as the leaders of squads, incursions, and micro administrative efforts.

Military:

Each Knight is given the freedom of a legion - a public show of their power, influence, and control. Be it the technologically advanced cyborgs a scientist might create to defend him, or an endless wave of graug - the limits are up to the Lord themselves, but there is no one the Legion holds loyalty to beyond their own personal Lord. This ensures that each Sith can gain the strength they desire and the strength that they deserve; though it comes at the cost of infighting, broken tactics, and a network of commands that do not always communicate.
To compensate for this, there are the High Lords - those who actively control their Lords to ensure some semblance of normality. While a single Lord and his Legion can do sieges alone, to have a High Lord backing a war effort is exceptionally important - as it can make what one Lord hoped to accomplish something more akin to child’s play. When many legions march, it is a sight to behold - both in space and on land.
But when there exist external threats, it is up to the Fist of the Emperor to dominate over even the High Lords. Dragging them to the table, by force if necessary, the Fist of the Emperor is the Grand Marshall of the Lords of the Sith - speaking as the Emperor’s voice to every soldier in the Legions. When the Fist beckons, the Legions follow - enacting complex invasion plans deep into enemy territory with all the brutality each legion entails.
The Legions themselves are freedom, personifications of the will of their leader - and such each has begun to amass their reputation. Like the 501st once had under Vader’s rule, there are some legions well regarded for their destructive tendencies - while others still are known for their authoritarian charity, able to hold planets with minimal bloodshed, while many more simply burn and pillage as they see fit. It creates a harsh dichotomy between the legions but creates a powerful moral effect when one of the legendary legions approaches an enemy planet.

Frumentarii:

The eyes and ears of the Emperor, the answer to the Eye of the Emperor on the Dark Council. Spies, intelligence agents, everything from assassins to criminal assets smuggled into powerful positions across the galaxy - the Frumentarii serve to extend the Emperor’s will far beyond the traditional reach of his legions.
However, for security, there is rarely a strong connection between their various forces unless necessary. While the Spider of the Eye weaves a web of information, each Frumentarii is only given so much information for their task to help ensure that no single agent could betray the emperor and his networks. This is especially important internally, as the Emperor often needs to know of rising threats from the various Imperiums under his rule.
Legendary in their own right, the Frumentarii cast a long shadow for those who know of them and their reputation. It is not uncommon for swaths of one Lords own to be killed by the sword for the assumption they work for the Frumentarii - but rarely have their agents been exposed. At least, those that are exposed die before they speak; only adding to the exact mystery of their reach, and what exactly it is they do.

Consul:
While not directly as feared as the likes of the Frumentarii or the Legions, the Consul is a subsect of Sith focused on administration, science, and finances. They are direct agents of the Will of the Emperor - trained in all matters adjudication, higher education, and the work of fiscal policy. While most settle on a specific specialization, it is not unheard of for some Sith to differentiate their skills into a variety of platforms, making them the renaissance men of the current generation.
Due to the skill at which the Consul operate, they are given to each Lord to help manage their demesne - be it a High Lord, or a Knight given the fiefdom of a city. The Consul help improve the living conditions of the Empire, while also managing the concerns of each area; to help reduce the likelihood of impoverished neighborhoods of the various Imperiums. This is not universal, however.
Skillful in their tasks, the Consul is also feared. Their intelligence makes them dangerously charismatic schemers - and with access to some of the largest book of secrets each Lord may possess - it is not unheard of for Consuls to betray those they work for, in the hopes of gaining their power. While less common, it is still a righteous danger for anyone to consider - and as such Consuls have been banned from many Lord’s courts, though at the cost of their efficient bureaucratic connections.

Praetorian Guards:

As many of the Knights and Ronin of the Empire don’t necessarily swear to individual Lords, there serves their highest rank - the Praetorian. A set of Knights extremely skilled in the art of combat that helps protect the Emperor - elite and dangerous, they often swear off their vows of power to ensure that the Emperor is only faced by the ruly powerful of the Empire rather than an angry mob of lowborn hoping to upend the very essence of the Lords of the Sith.
This makes Praetorians as dangerous as they are helpful to the Emperor - as it is often the case that Praetorians are the single deciding factor in an Emperor remaining on his throne. Both their protector and executor, they watch and judge silently - carefully holding their opinions to themselves when a challenger finally approaches for the throne they can either step aside and allow it or fight the would-be ambitious Lord.
Due to this, it is also not unheard of for the Praetorians to abandon their place at the Emperor’s side and challenge them directly - though often at the cost of facing their brothers in arms. The Emperor’s housecarls, the Praetorians grow strong together and by themselves - and are greatly feared by both the galaxy at large and his vassals; but the one who fears them the most is often the Emperor and the Dark Council themselves, no matter the loyalty they swear.
The Keepers of the Code, the First and Last Defense of the Doctrine of Strength, each Praetorian knows their role is singularly important; to ensure that the Emperor who takes the throne is always stronger than the last.

Description:

After the invasion of Korriban, there was a stirring in the Force. Dark and heavy, the holy world of the sith was wretched from their control by the likes of the Galactic Alliance - Jedi who under their admission were weakened managed to take one of the most important worlds possible from the likes of the Sith Empire; and with it, it woke something dark from beneath the surface.
Little more than rumors spread at first, whispered in the backroom meetings of Sith Lords doubting the strength of the throne, that the Zambrano’s Rule of Order had offended the Left-Handed God and he sent a dark emissary to enact his will. That there lay a figure with five masks and a thousand voices that punished those who had abandoned their ambition for the sake of comfort - feeding on the lies of unity to the state, the worship of the Emperor, and the myth that infighting was the death of the Sith.
Yet they were more than rumors - as hundreds of Sith soon found. Through theological debate, through kaggath, or the sheer will of his presence - Sith on Sith found the once rumored avatar of the Dark Side far more than a simple myth; but the dangerous figure that he was. Crowned the Worm Emperor by his admission, and the Left-Handed God by his followers, his thousand voices collected a Legion to rival some of the greatest armies the galaxy had known.
A thousand and one, Sith of every caliber and their legions, raiding across the Tingel Arm for goods and resources to establish something new yet old. A return to tradition, where strength determined who was truly right in the world - where Sith could once again spread their wings, break their chains of indoctrination, and fight for what they truly wanted. That together, the very essence of the Sith would reemerge - where ambition was not struck down at its first sign of roots, but encouraged and reinforced until the next generation outdid the last; forever increasing in the skill of its leaders.
It was this that created the draw on the Sith, strong and powerful aspects from across the Galaxy that finally saw a chance to free themselves of the Rule of Order, to find strength in themselves once again; and it would be beautiful. Many would face the sword of their greater quickly, but after the chaos of its initialization, it would calm itself to something far more sustainable.
Where the strong led the weak, where the weak fostered their power and waited for the plateau of their masters before striking - so that there was always one stronger to remain. It kept the strong wary, on their toes, and it kept the weak always striving - until a hierarchy was formed that was as natural as natural could be. Those on the top were powerful but stagnating, those on the bottom were power-hungry and ambitious - and every year the order would grow stronger until one would inevitably challenge the Worm Emperor himself.
It was in this that the foundation of his doctrine would come to fruition - a war declared on the rule of Order on Korriban; where the group would grow strong once again. Legions of Sith pounded spears into the ground as the Emperor announced his war cry - and the beginning of the end was upon them.

The Pitch:

As the Sith Empire has been the primo dark side faction for onwards of three years, and almost every Dark Side faction to arise in recent years has been extremely centralized authoritarian, there came the idea to upend that convention of ‘governmental power’ and introduce a new take on the Sith - where Sith do not follow the Emperor because of the government's power to enforce such, but because the Emperor demands it of their own will.
IC, this seems like a dichotomy to the Rule of Order and the Sith Empire - leave alone the Obsidian Order, Knights of Ren, or Imperial Knights. It allows a new faction to rise, writers to build the power bases that are loyal to just them, and both scheme and wage war against their fellow sith for the joy that comes with the story. Managed by administrators and game masters to help accommodate impartiality and a growing story, there exists a powerful opportunity for an entirely new type of dark side roleplay to emerge.
Freedom for each dark sider, the power to take the throne as you so desire, and to encourage a focus on Sith politics that have been laid to the side for years. Essentially, it’s Game of Thrones for Sith - and many are excited to see such.
