OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
KIIR-27 'Starmace' Plasma Rocket Launchers are a reasonably compact anti-vehicle weapon well-suited to killing everything from main battle tanks to starfighters. The limited homing capabilities and high speed of a Starmace's projectiles make them difficult to jam, but they tend to struggle with rapidly-moving targets, especially if there are obstacles in the way. Additionally, the projectiles cannot be recalled or re-routed once fired.
The price profile of a Starmace is somewhat unusual; they are notably more expensive than conventional rocket launchers, but at the same time the ammunition they use (typically Visium, but the only static requirement is a lot of power very quickly) is far cheaper than normal rockets.
As a result, Starmaces get more and more cost-effective the more they are used; Globex strongly discourages issuing these weapons to troops that are, to be less than delicate, cannon fodder. Rather, their compact ammunition makes them exceptionally well-suited for commandos and the like.
While Starmaces are able to shoot down aircraft, the miss rate is quite high for anything that isn't low-flying or slow-moving; while they are fast and resistant to common countermeasures such as jamming, their energy signatures are glaringly obvious and their manoeuvrability subpar.

- By tampering with the energy makeup of any given shot, Starmaces can make use of various firing modes even without a physical shell.
- Dumb-Fired: Direct line of fire, relies on its impressive speed to hit moving targets; immune to jamming, for obvious reasons.
- Semi-Homing: Locks on to a set area, a heat signature, or a vehicle's engine emissions; once fired it cannot be directed or disabled by the Starmace that launched it. Emissions-tracking shots are easier to interfere with than ones aiming for a predetermined location.
- Dumb Curving: Comparable to dumb-fired, but follows a curved arc; useful for shooting over obstacles or shelling an area.
- The energy makeup of any given shot can be altered to produce a concentrated anti-vehicle blast or a larger but more diffuse blast suitable for disabling infantry. Should infantry be equipped with unusually heavy armour, such as Beskar'gam, the anti-vehicle mode should be used.
- A standard Starmace can hold a dozen Visium Power Cells, each one being expended after a single shot. Starmaces mounted on vehicles or fortifications often have auto-loading capabilities; they can serve as everything from anti-air/vehicle weapons to mortars for shelling.
- Starmaces mounted on fortifications or vehicles sometimes draw power directly from reactors to cut down on expenses.
- Handheld Starmaces can generally fire around two projectiles per minute; vehicle/mortar variants may be faster.
- The safety can be overridden to shoot faster, but this risks overheating, improper aim, etc.
- Kaboom!: Starmaces strike their targets with terrible potency; they have a high enough yield to blast through most armour plates.
- Convenient: The Visium Power Cells used by Starmaces are far more compact than rockets of comparable yield; logistics is easier.
- Line of Fire: Starmaces are objectively worse at manoeuvring than concussion missiles; a mostly direct line of fire is advisable.
