- By tampering with the energy makeup of any given shot, Starhammers can make use of various firing modes even without a physical shell.
- Dumb-Fired: Direct line of fire, relies on its impressive speed to hit moving targets; immune to jamming, for obvious reasons.
- Semi-Homing: Locks on to a target, typically a set point in space or the emissions of an ion engine; once fired it cannot be directed or disabled by the vessel/vehicle that launched it. Emissions-tracking shots are easier to interfere with than ones aiming for a set area.
- Dumb Curving: Comparable to dumb-fired, but follows a curved arc - rarely used in space, but often used by groundside artillery.
- NB! Atmospheric will involve some loss of momentum, precluding perfect straight lines; dumb-curving is intentional, however.
- Kaboom!: Much like conventional electromagnetic plasma cannons, Starhammers strike with terrible potency.
- Aimbot: In contrast to energy torpedoes, Starhammers have various firing modes beyond dumb-fired direct fire.
- Sustainable: The use of energy-based projectiles allow Starhammers to fire more shots than torpedo launchers.
- Line of Fire: Starhammers are objectively worse at manoeuvring than, say, a concussion missile; a mostly direct line of fire is advised.
- Rate of Fire: Starhammers can fire more bolts than physical torpedo launchers, but must recharge its capacitors after each shot.
An innovative new take on traditional Umbaran Electromagnetic Plasma Cannons, the Starhammer is a complex piece of engineering roughly on par with an energy torpedo launcher (or more conventional torpedo launcher) in size, at least on average; this may vary from model to model, of course. While initially designed to be fitted to starfighters, it may be used by vehicles or even capital ships.
While almost always powered by a small chunk of solid-state visium, these weapons can be modified to run on other, equally potent fuel sources; it is far from uncommon for the larger capital ship variants to make use of capacitor banks for entire batteries, as opposed to individual Starhammers.
In flight, a Starhammer's bolts resemble tiny, hyperluminous white-tinged spheres trailed by multicoloured streams of energy.
