GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Unit Name: Kerstas Auxiliary Legion
  • Affiliation: Order of Wonosa, Darth Strosius Darth Strosius , Sith Order
  • Classification: Auxiliary Infantry
  • Description: Accompanying their more zealous and fanatical soldiers-in-arms of the Kerstas Legion, the Auxiliary Legion marches in a manner far more organized yet no less spectacular. The armor of the Auxiliary Legionnaires is notably different from the typical Legionnaires, much like their general demeanor. An armorweave cloak and an armband bearing the symbol of the Order of Wonosa, as well as helmet that offers more visibility, marks them as a supplemental force. Conscripted from the average citizenry, and petty criminals, the Auxiliary Legion may lack the zealousness of their comrades but in that lacking fanaticism they display a slightly more regimented and orderly disposition.
COMBAT INFORMATION:
  • Unit Size: Large
  • Unit Availability: Common
  • Unit Experience: Trained
  • Equipment: Much like the wider legion that they belong to, the Auxiliary Legion wears the typical Kerstas Legionnaire Armor albeit with some modifications like an armorweave cloak and a more open helmet, meaning an overall slight decrease in protection due to their common placement within garrisons or as support. Each Auxiliary Legionnaire is equipped with a blaster rifle and blaster pistol for a basic yet solid loadout but they also operate weapons such as Mounted Repeating Blasters, Missile Launchers, Blaster Cannons, Ion Blasters, and Mortars to provide a variety of fire support based on the situation at hand. Typically they crew and operate Mailoc Combat Speeders for motorized support and also have access to various armor modules much like the regular Legionnaires.
  • Combat Function: The Auxiliary Legion's entire purpose as a subunit of the Kerstas Legion is to support them. Operating defensive emplacements, acting as rearguard or flank support, operating equipment such as mortars or even vehicles, and even occasionally working as escorts and medics for wounded Legionnaires. This frees up the main Legion to operate as an almost entirely offensive force while the Auxiliary Legion secures their rear. In general they are trained in the same tactics as the wider legion, using small-unit and storm tactics much like their fellow Legionnaires. However, given that they are typically less devoted that the normal Legionnaires, wild and bloodthirsty charges are instead replaced with coordinated firing lines that ensure each squad can dish out as much damage as possible all at once while covering themselves from reprisal.
  • Force Abilities (Force User Units Only): N/A
Strengths:
  • Trained to Match: Despite being meant as a supporting force, the Legionnaires are all trained together regardless of their intended destinations in the Legion. As such the Auxiliary Legion is no less skilled or trained than the average Kerstas Legionnaire and can transition to reinforcements rather than support without much drop in quality.
  • United we Fire: Given that they lack the zealous nature of the typical Kerstas Legion, the Auxiliary Legion substitutes their wrathful and dangerous charges for far more practical and safe tactics. Namely they use excellent coordination amongst themselves to turn whatever enemy that approaches them into a target. Whether by vehicles, emplacements, or their standard equipment, the Auxiliary Legion prefers a more organized method of warfare that favors laying ambushes and establishing zones of concentrated fire in order to put down whatever threats may come.
Weaknesses:
  • Conscripts and Volunteers: The Auxiliary Legion is entirely made up of either civilians living under the Order's domain or petty criminals that are offered conscription rather than jail time. This means that they are far less eager to battle as their comrades in the Kerstas Legion, but it does not make them cowards or traitors. Rather, they are just far more likely to surrender or retreat rather than die fighting like their fellow Legionnaires would.
  • Always the Support: Although given similar equipment and training to the main Legionnaires, the Auxiliary Legion is never meant to be a military force all their own. They are meant to support an advance or aid in defense, not act as the main attackers or defenders. This can be seen in a general hesitance and lack of experience when it comes to direct engagements.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
With the Order of Wonosa expanding its reach across Formos, and in more recent times even establish itself somewhat on Faldos, outsiders and locals became new citizens under their dominion. While initially this presented no obstacle it was quickly discovered that many of the volunteers lacked the drive and fanaticism that the Kerstas Legion was meant to exhibit and embody. They simply weren't as deeply tied to the Order as the citizens of the Formos Dresuoti were, although many of them showed a surprising dedication to the Order itself given that it now served as their defender.

In order to not dilute the main Legion while still growing it in scale, and in order to provide a potential avenue of public service to the petty criminals that hadn't earned themselves a spot in the execution cells, the Auxiliary Legion was established for the new citizens of the Order. Rather than serving as another main force though, they would supplement the Legion in a variety of ways. Equipment and vehicle operators, garrison troops, general laborers, the Auxiliary Legion was meant to live up to its name.

Although slightly less glamorous than their counterparts, the Auxiliary Legion would still find plenty of able recruits. Additionally, a process for an Auxiliary Legionnaire to be elevated to a typical Kerstas Legionnaire was put in place so that dedicated Legionnaires or skilled tacticians would be in no short supply for the main Legion. The sight of the zealous outsiders in many settlements would quickly be replaced by the more familiar faces of the Auxiliary Legion, with many being allowed to garrison their home towns or areas in order to ensure that their defense of such assets would be fervent and guaranteed.

The ranks of the Auxiliary Legion would swell alongside the main Legion as more and more freed slaves and citizens of Formos would be inducted into the Order of Wonosa. They would become the face of the cult to the many towns and outposts that they guarded, being the most common military forces seen by civilians due to the nature of their duties. This did not go unnoticed by the higher ups of the cult's military arm and as such many competent members of the Auxiliary Legion would be promoted to proper Kerstas Legionnaires as a show of good faith and respect. Although they rarely served alongside other members of the main Legion, instead just being considered elite garrison units.

When the Kerstas Troopers were introduced the Auxiliary Legion was largely unaffected as their support role was simply broadened to include the Troopers as well as the Legionnaires. They did find a somewhat new role thrust upon them in the form of parade guards whenever celebrations and tours of Formos would be conducted by cult officials and leaders, with a portion of the Legion even becoming dedicated specifically to banner carrying duties and the like both on the battlefield and the homefront.
