Jor Kvall was born on Kalevala as the eldest son of Hygela Kvall, Alor of House Kvall. When Ra Vizsla reformed Death Watch in an effort to overthrow Mia Monroe in what would become known as the Seven Day War, Jor eagerly joined Ra's side against his father's wishes. Jor served as an infantryman in the Death Watch during the Seven Day War, fighting in most of the major battles of the campaign, notably the final battle on Sundari where Monroe was killed and Vizsla assumed the title of Mand'alor. He also took part in the purge of Force Users from Mandalorian society under Vizsla's orders, an action which he later regretted. Shortly afterwards, Jor journeyed home to Kalevala upon learning of Hygela Kvall's ill health. Hygela died not long after his return, after which Jor ritualistically killed a mythosaur and added its bones to his armor, thus formally passing leadership of House Kvall to him.

Jor's first act as Alor was to use the political capital gained as a veteran of the Seven Day War to ingratiate himself into the newly formed Mandalorian Empire, and return his family's seat to their ancestral location on the planet Krownest. Not having forgotten about Kalevala, Kvall also oversaw the effort to terramorph the desert planet and detoxify its atmosphere. In the process, Jor grew closer to Yasha Mantis, who had stepped into the title of Mand'alor after Ra Vizsla's disappearance. Increasingly distrustful of the Sith Empire's role in Ra Vizsla's reign and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, Jor finally pressed Yasha for answers, demanding to know the truth. Yasha, who had experienced the Netherworld herself, told Jor everything. She revealed that Ra Vizsla was in fact a resurrected clone of the original, reanimated to do the Sith Emperor's bidding in the Sith's attempt to rule the galaxy. In sharing her knowledge, the two struck a deal; Jor would keep Ra's resurrection a secret in exchange for Yasha promising not to marry the Emperor's son. The two agreed to work together to fight off the Sith influence over Mandalore.

Meanwhile, Jor journeyed back to Kalevala to collect a bloodwrack debt from Alor Talos of Clan Kros, who had killed Jor's uncle in a drunken argument a year prior. Talos surprised Jor by instead offering the hand of his daughter Lira Kros Lira Kros as payment, which Jor accepted. Lira accompanied Jor back to House Kvall's new home in the mountains of Krownest, where the two began to live together and eventually grew fond of their future arranged marriage. Shortly after, amid growing concerns over Yasha's leadership, Jor hosted a meeting between himself, Preliat Mantis and Vilaz Munin, leaders of the renegade Mandalorian group Te Veman. However, Jor was disappointed to learn that Te Veman's opposition to Yasha was bureaucratic in nature rather than motivated by an earnest desire to shake off the Sith yoke, and so Jor declined their offer to join Te Veman. Later, at the Wue'gi Vod Council, as relations between Mandalore and TSE grew tense, Jor advised Yasha to work to sever Mandalore's ties with the Sith Empire while buying time diplomatically to avoid war before the Mandalorians were ready. Instead, Yasha formally allied with the Emperor and handed over control of Dathomir, Cathar and the Quelli Sector to the Sith Empire. This action caused Jor to officially withdraw his support for Mand'alor the Infernal and remove House Kvall from the Mandalorian Empire.

The short peace was not to last, for either Kvall or the rest of the Mandalorians. As Jor had feared, the Sith soon broke the alliance when it was apparent that the Mandalorians' military might was waning, and launched an attack on Mandalore and Concord Dawn. A week before his wedding to Lira, Jor left Krownest to defend Mandalore, but not before Lira told him the news that she was pregnant with their first child. Jor fought in Operation Hammerfall in defense of the capital city Sundari, which saw Mandalorian forces successfully repel the Sith Empire from Mandalorian territory. Driven into a battle frenzy, Jor declared his belief in Kad Ha'rangir, the old Mandalorian deity of destruction. Operation Hammefall, though a tactical failure for the Sith Empire, would prove to be only a minor setback, as the battle had left Mandalorian forces depleted and without the strength to repel a second Sith invasion. Additionally, Mand'alor herself along with most other top commanders were missing and presumed dead. The massive Sith war machine soon spread through Mandalorian space, including Krownest, encountering little resistance. Jor Kvall and other remaining Mandalorians withdrew into hiding and began to organize underground resistance groups.
