STANDARD FEATURES

  • All the standard features one would expect from a ship of this class and purpose.
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
Strengths:
  • Like the classical X-Wing, it is a good multirole fighter. It has plenty of gadgets to counter exotic enemy weapons and get into battle quicker. Its defence systems also makes it quite tough.
  • The starfighter packs a very strong punch and is fast. The speed can be further boosted by a SLAM drive.
  • Inspired by the classical StealthX as well its contemporary incarnations, the starfighter features a number of stealth systems. It utilises gravitic modulators, photon absorbers, thermal dissipators and sensor negators along with passive energy and static dempeners. This makes it more difficult to detect the starfighter at standard sensor range and beyond. The Reflec coating blocks most sensor technology. Thanks to a DERP, the starfighter is invisible to most sensor pings. It makes the ship invisible most enemy scanners, targeting computers and incoming missiles. The Phantom senor jammer can not only jam incoming sensor pulses, but also the target's outgoing signals, as it has static discharge panels designed to scramble communications and sub-space frequencies.
Weaknesses:
  • The starfighter's most powerful weapon is a Deathstrike Type 3, a concussion missile normally reserved for a bomber, which is why it is only one-shot. Ergo it should not be wasted.
  • The SLAM drive is rather power-hungry. When it is engaged, Manoeuvrability drops to Low and Defences to Average.
  • The stealth system has its limitations. The starfighter does not visibly cloak, so it can be seen. Thus it is not on the level of say a Stygium cloaking device. Moreover it is easier to visually track the starfighter at closer range and during dogfights. Weapons' locks are difficult, but not impossible. Likewise, active sensor pings and comm waves will generate attention. Weapons' fire and active shield emissions are able to create signatures that are more easy to spot at normal sensor range.
Description: The Iskur Class Starfighter is named after the Qadiri god of the skies; an apt naming choice since it was built for an elite squadron of Qadiri pilots. Mirage Squadron was founded by Jazan Jai Khalal, a Qadiri corsair who made herself a name as a daring raider but gave up her criminal ventures and aligned herself with Firemane. She was motivated by pragmatism, a desire for profit and a chance to see the stars. Like her, the pilots are sons and daughters of the sea who have graduated to space. The Mirages distinguished themselves during the Tephrike Campaign, where they saved the Scarlet Destiny from Force-enhanced surface to space missiles the Dominion of Light had deployed against the Firemane Exploration's Corps' flagship.

Later, they played an active role in Firemane's ground campaign. To counter their enemy's air power, the Dominion activated a weather control machine. The subsequent storm wreaked havoc. The Mirages were among the very few Firemane pilots that had a chance of flying through the storm. Being Qadiri, they have inherent navigational talents. Moreover, every pilot in the squadron is Force-Sensitive, excelling at Force Meld and Force-enhanced piloting. Thus they flew several recon and close air support misssions to aid the ground troops. In the aftermath of the campaign, Jazan was awarded the Galactic Cross, Firemane's highest decoration.

The Iskur was built to replace the Drakes Mirage Squadron had used until then. The Mirages are all-rounders, so the Iskur has been designed as a multirole fighter, similar to the classical X-Wing. Most of the features used by the Drake have carried over, but the Isur also draws inspiration from other models, such as classical and contemporary incarnations of the StealthX. It is heavily armoured and well-armed, but also has a myriad of gadgets acquired from Alderaan Engineering and other sources.

These give the starfighter better countermeasures and shields. Moreover, though it lacks a Stygium cloaking device, the Iskur features a comprehensive stealth suite based on the one used by the StealthX. A myriad of support systems blur the craft's sensor signature, dissipate incoming sensor pings and scanner signals. This makes the starfighter difficult to track. It can use these systems to appear as a naturally occuring space phenomena and blend in easily with other vessels or background noise. Moreover, it is more difficult to gain a targeting lock on it. Thanks to a DERP, the starfighter is invisible to most sensor pings. In combat it can block targeting computers and scanners by using broadband transmissions to interfere with sensors attempting to target the fighter. However, weapons' fire and active shield emissions are able to create signatures that are more easy to spot at normal sensor range.

The Iskur is a tough, rather well-armed fighter that performs well against most attack craft. Moreover, it is rather fast and is able to further boost its speed by using a SLAM drive. This is useful for A-Wing slashes, drive-bys, pursuits, retreats or when the craft needs a real good boost to escape a tractor beam. To enhance its ability to take on heavily armoured targets, the starfighter has been equipped with a one-shot Deathstrike type 3 missile. This is a weapon normally reserved for bombers to crack heavily armoured targets, whereas starfighters carry the type 2 variant of the concussion missile. For this reason, the launcher is one-shot, and thus has to be employed strategically. Aside from this launcher, the Iskur has two dual laser cannons, one heavy laser cannon, a ground-buzzer light blaster Cannon and two variable warhead launchers. These launchers have an internal magazine that can be loaded and unloaded rapidly and is able to fire a variety of ordnance. It can load and unload very quickly, allowing the pilot to switch ordnance rapidly.

Each Iskur is equipped with a Stargaze Module, a smaller version of the Stargaze Engine. This Path Engine analogue enables the calculation of quick and precise hyperspace jumps, including very difficult or complex ones. However, the module lacks a Navbrain of its own. As a result, optimal performance requires a Force-Sensitive pilot trained in instinctive astrogation. That applies to all present members of Mirage Squadron, so it's not a problem for them per se, but also limits use to them.

Overall this looks pretty good to me, there's just one thing I can see that we need to address before we can move the submission forward.

The image credit link is broken if you could fix that I'll be happy to approve the submission.
