DESCRIPTION
The Etheric Rudder/Rotational Engine system, aka "Space Brakes", was a propulsion system created from a joint design effort from ArmaTech Industries and Mandal Hypernautics, however the project was finalized by Alderaan Engineering and sent into production with their oversight. While not new technology as it has been found on Keizer-Volvec's KV807-A Engine System and the TIE Ugly designated "Clutch" for small snubfighters long ago, it is an innovation for corvettes and frigates however models were drafted and fabricated for sub-capital ships as well.

In effect, the Ship uses the Velocity Nullification System to preform a rapid full kinetic stop, halting all forward movement followed by a rapid pivot or spin using a set of rotational maneuvering thrusters, jets, and engines. Designed off an the KV807-A Engine system, the package allows a ship to use the full kinetic stop as a tactic to rapidly change facing in combat as needed to bring new guns to bear against different vessels, to escape an escalating situation by rapidly changing flight vectors, engage new targets attempting to outflank the vessel, or reorient to incoming enemy reinforcements arriving from hyperspace.

This has the noted benefit in small sub-capital craft of helping evade missiles however, larger ships don't really gain this advantage as there is much more space for the warheads to strike and much more time for them to compensate for the sudden stop. The propulsion package is intended for ships smaller than 600 meters in size, and requires active inertial compensators. Attempting to use a Full Kinetic Stop in space without inertial dampeners active and on high enough setting would result in a mop and bucket clean up. Due to the stress placed on the Inertial Compensators, the larger the ship, the longer the pilot should allow the capacitors to recycle before attempting such a maneuver again. Normally for Starfighters this time is about forty-five seconds, still a long time in a Dogfight. For small corvettes, the cooldown is about two minutes, and for frigates and larger vessels it takes about five minutes before they are able to handle performing the maneuver again.

*Some Starfighter Pilots like to set the Inertial Compensators to around 99.5% to "Feel the G's" which can cause pilots to black out while preforming high stress maneuvers. This would be a prime example of high stress.

Strengths:
  • Full Kinetic Stop and Turn: The system allows for a ship to make a full stop in space, followed by a rapid pivot or turn to reorient the facing of the craft. Full stops are unorthodox in space, having only been used rarely and most ships aren't designed to be able to perform them, and thus it has numerous tactical benefits.
Weaknesses:
  • Escorts Only: Larger Cruisers are unable to be outfitted with the system, as it has been noted to cause too much stress on vessels larger than 600 meters. Ships like the Nebula-B have noted that their spinal structure can fracture when attempting a stop from maximum speed.
  • Killer Inertia: Without active Inertial Compensators, performing the maneuver will most likely end in the death of the crew and the displacement of cargo.
Special Features:
  • Space Maneuvering
  • Cooldown

There's no such thing as a full stop in space, but I get what you're saying. Just need to specify whether you're talking full stop in relation to a nearby planet, the average velocity of a fleet engagement, etc.

I'm... a bit confused by that. I think what you are saying is that technically the galaxy is still moving, and things are moving around that, and so on. I'm gonna go with in relation to Fleet Engagement and will add that in, as not all fighting is done near a planet or even a star for that matter, though it is normally.

How does this sound?
preform a rapid full kinetic stop relative to a fleet engagement's normal movement in local space, halting all forward movement by comparison
