SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Class 1.0 Hyperdrive
  • Quiet Hyperspace Transit
  • Hyperspace Course Corrections
  • Atmospheric Jump Capabilities
  • Precision Hyperspace Jump
Detailed Special Features:
  • Quiet Transit: The Specter Hyperdrive does not trigger Early Hyperspace Warning systems unless used in large groups (more than a few squadrons of fighters) due to using a small, ergonomically designed hyperspace bubble around the craft it is installed on. This allows for small scale attacks of secure worlds and travel through enemy territory without being tracked.
  • Redirect: The Specter is able to make recalculations and replot its trajectory while in hyperspace, such as entering a system from a different direction than along the lines of the ship’s initial start point, or changing direction to move to a different system without reverting to realspace. However the more serious the course correction, the more likely to trigger Hyperspace warnings.
  • Atmospheric Jump: Using this Hyperdrive, a ship is able to make the jump to hyperspace while in the gravity well of a celestial body, even from within the atmosphere of a planet. Artificial gravity wells present their own set of problems and can still be effective due to their ability to shift and change position relative to a ship’s star charts. In addition there is a high degree of risk involved, increased turbulence, and other issues mean it is suggested only to make a short jump before realigning.
  • Atmospheric Reversion: The Specter Drive is able to revert to realspace within the atmosphere of a planet, albeit not safely even with a very maneuverable craft. Excellent piloting and very powerful maneuvering thrusters are only going to save the ship from becoming a fireball, not from hitting the ground.
  • Micro-Jump: The Navicomputer is able to plot accurate inter system jumps to a degree, such as jumping from inner system to outer system or vice versa.
Strengths:
  • Advanced Hyperdrive: The Specter Hypertransit System is able to fly quietly through hyperspace without trigger early warning sensors; can change course and plot heavily angled courses in hyperspace; jump to hyperspace within the atmosphere of a planet and vice versa; and preform Microjumps.
Weaknesses:
  • Not Without Risk: While it is capable of many things, attempting anything beyond the capabilities of a standard hyperdrive results in increased risks. When making course corrections in hyperspace it reduces the effectiveness of its ability to avoid early warning sensors; when making jumps from atmosphere or gravity well the vessel suffers heavy turbulence and can be thrown wildly off course without accurate calculations; when reverting to realspace within a planet’s atmosphere the ship will hit the ground.
  • Small Scale: It is designed for Starfighter sized vessels. Nothing larger than 50 meters are able to make use of this particular system.
DESCRIPTION
The AE-HD1 Specter Hypertransit System is a Starfighter Grade hyperdrive and navicomputer system designed to make use of several innovative Hyperdrive systems combined into one system designed for starfighter use only.

First and foremost, the hyperdrive emits an ergonomic hyperspace bubble around its ship that hugs close to the ship and limits the disturbance normally caused by a ship traveling through hyperspace. This allows the system to evade detection from Hyperspace Monitoring systems when used in small groups. (U-Wing was able to travel to Jedha without alerting a Star Destroyer monitoring the system) (U-Wing, X-Wing, and Y-Wing Squadrons able to revert at Eadu, the system where the Death Star Superlaser was constructed without triggering any warnings) It has been noted that the effect of this is reduced in groups and when attempting to make course alterations, which can render the ability to slip in undetected null.

The advanced navicomputer and astrometrics system installed in the hypertransit package allow for an equipped vessel to make course corrections and change course during transit without requiring the vessel to revert to realspace. (U-Wing redirecting to travel to Eadu without reverting to Realspace) This also allows the ship to plot very angled courses, such as moving around a system to enter from a different direction, maneuver around known hyperspace disturbances and other phenomena. (T-70 X-Wings able to redirect 90 degrees all while in Hyperspace)

One of the many innovations of hyperspace travel is the ability to enter Hyperspace from numerous locations. The ability to jump to hyperspace from within a planet’s atmosphere or gravity well is one of the most useful, however the system is only able to manage jumping through gravity wells it is able to calculate for, allowing a ship to rapidly escape pursuit. (U-Wing jumping to Hyperspace in the atmosphere of Jedha) Such an act causes significant turbulence which can render a vessel structurally unsound, thus short jumps are suggested. The fact that the computer must be able to calculate for a gravity well means that artificial gravity wells which are not charted will still be effective due to their ability to shift location and intensity as the navicomputer cannot accurately plot a course to compensate for them, while the gravity created by a celestial object can be accounted for with relative ease.

This also allows a ship equipped with the Specter Hypertransit system to revert to realspace within a planet’s atmosphere as well. (Millennium Falcon able to travel to Hyperspace while within a cargo hanger and able to enter a planet’s atmosphere in hyperspace) However, reverting from hyperspace leaves little to no time to change course and will result in a crash. In a very maneuverable vessel with a very good pilot, survival is possible but not a certainty as the ship will hit the surface. Piloting ability will only limit the damage to the craft.
