Conceited
Humbarine Election

The ecumenopolis of Humbarine was set for an election of a brand new senator to represent the planet on the fledgling Senate of the New Republic. The previous representative of the planet- Yasmleil Ridall- had succumbed to a rare heart attack at the age of thirty two. Despite the autopsy providing an analysis that she had been in perfect health prior to the sudden affliction that had taken her life, the doctors had declared that she had died of natural, if not unfortunate circumstance. It was a rare thing to happen to someone that reasonably young, but not unheard of. If there had been a Jedi, Sith or a well trained Force-sensitive within the vicinity of the Senator at the time then they might have felt the tug of the dark side squeezing upon the heart of the unfortunate woman, but seeing as there hadn't been at the time no suspicion had been caused for alarm, and the public mourned the loss of one of their most decorated public officials. In the wake of Ridall's death Humbarine had held off holding a new election for their next representative for a standard month, so as to pay respect to their late Senator. But as the weeks had unfolded it became clear who would be the new running mates that would be pitted against one another before the public gave their verdict on who they wanted to represent them. Then it would be down to the planetary governors of each of Humbarine's districts to decide who should be their representative in the New Republic, taking into account public perception and the internal bureaucracy that often emerged in inter-planetary politics.
As the month drew to a close it became clear who the front runners were to become the next Senator of Humbarine. They were:-
Peytgav Dresaxo, a known celebrity from district eleven who had participated in several Humanitarian runs in the lower districts for the poor and impoverished in the run up to the next election. Rumoured to be backed by an unknown consortium off world.
Sullchri Ridall, the brother of the late Yasmleil Ridall and the favourite for the upcoming election given that he was a relative of the late Senator. Given the sympathy vote and his record as a public official at regional level in districts seven through nine made him an automatic candidate and likely to win the election now that he was running in place of his sister.
And, perhaps curiously, Ella Nova, a former Jedi Knight who had been given citizenship on Humbarine several years ago in the wake of the One Sith wars due to her service in the Army of the Grand Republic who had entered in the running prior to her return from rumour self-imposed exile elsewhere, and significantly backed by a vast amount of personal wealth of unknown quantity. Seemingly she had been busy during her time out of the galactic eye since the end of the war and the collapse of the Old Republic.

Darth Ayra surveyed the city below her with a malevolent glare. Behind her on the balcony that she stood upon was a gorgeous apartment set with the decor and fragrance associated with Humbarine culture. It had been an hour since she had met with the governor of district ten, where they had gone over policy and how she would best help the governor's district if she were elected Senator. Through the Force she had been able to detect that the governor didn't really care for the district, but rather himself and how she could best benefit him rather than the constituents who had elected him. Of course she had played her part, nodding and smiling accordingly, thanking him for his gratitude and praise for her service in the One Sith wars some years ago during the wake of the Old Republic. Little did he know that she had fought on the other side for most of that war, and that the woman stood before him wasn't exactly the Jedi Knight who had fought on behalf of the Republic during the Battle of Balmorra. She hadn't felt the need to correct him though. After all, Ella Nova was a near perfect disguise for her latest machination.
After murdering the previous Senator, Ayra had moved quickly to mobilise support in the upper echelons of Humbarine. With the assistance of her old contacts in the IGBC she had quickly learned who she would need to win the election, what she would have to do and how to enact her plan. A lavish advertisement campaign indicating that she- not Sullchiri Ridall or Peytgav Dresaxo- was the best candidate to represent Humbarine in the New Republic.
The campaign focused on the fact that she had been a decorated war hero for the Old Republic, and that due to her status as a war hero, she knew how best to represent Humbarine in a violent and cruel galaxy in a fledgling government that had endured- like she had- to bring peace to their world. She had quickly emerged as a front runner second only to Sullchiri Ridall who, given his public record and the sympathy vote he had quickly gained with thanks to his sister's death, was the leading man who was favourite to land the job.
Little did Sullchiri know that his opponent was a Dark Lord of the Sith who had no intention of playing fair. For all the campaigning and deals that Ayra could spin in the election cycle she knew that victory would not be achieved through dealing with bureaucrats and politics but through the demise of her opponent. Turning away from the balcony she re-entered her apartment to take a seat as she waiting for the arrival of Jack Anderson, an emissary from a cult which called themselves the Order of Jen'ari who Ayra had reached out too for a private meeting.
