STRENGTHS
  • ANTI-INTERDICTION - The "Hellmouth" Battlecruisers were named for the nightmarish Nether-rifts they tore open, traveling through the realms of sin to bypass Hyperspace altogether. Interdiction, Stormseeds, Hyperwave detection, there was not a single hyperspace obstacle that could stop a Hellmouth from arriving at it's intended destination, so long as it used the Netheric-gate Engine. With these fiery wounds in reality, a single Hellmouth was enough to ferry entire Covenant fleets through hell and back.
  • BLADED PROW - The prow of a Hellmouth was an armored superstructure made from solid Quadanium Steel, save for the narrow Monorail track used to reach the prow's shield generator housing. A combination of heavy Particle Shielding, Ablative Inertial Dampening and Magnite-Tractor Beams built into the armored superstructure allowed the Hellmouth to immobilize enemy capital ships twice it's size and ram them at high speeds with little risk, slicing right through the opposition in close quarters.
  • SLOPED ARMOR - Laser-reflective sloped armor allowed Hellmouths to bounce and even rochochet many energy-based projectiles in battle using smooth angles designed to redirect incoming fire away from critical areas of the ship. The underside in particular boasted the flattest slope on the vessel, allowing it's bladed prow to cut smoothly through hostile ships like a knife.
WEAKNESSES
  • MANEUVERABILITY - The Hellmouth was designed to move forward and guide fleets through the Netherworld, not complex naval manuevering. Though it could roll, the turn rate of these Battlecruisers was abysmal, and they were better suited to engaging from long range at the back of a fleet or blasting right through an enemy blockade. Hellmouths often traveled with an escort and maintained a defensive fighter screen when able.
  • SLOW HYPERDRIVE - The Netheric-gate Engines for which the vessel was named made hyperdrives obselete in the mind of it's creators, but maintained a backup Hyperdrive in case of emergency. The "primary" hyperdrive therefore was cheap, slow, and underperforming.
  • SHIELD GENERATORS - A Hellmouth Battlecruiser boasted large Shield Generators, large enough to be identifiable from the exterior. Sphere-like superstructures, two of which were located within the ship's mid-section and one within the armored prow, contained the vessel's massive shield generators which could be focused by bombers and weaponry to damage shields with certain munitions.
  • NETHERIC-NAVIGATOR - Netheric-gate Engines required both a Netheric-wayfinder and a specially trained "Netheric-Navigator" to operate, a rare school of Dark Side Adepts, the majority of which were trained by Darth Anathemous herself. Without both a navigator and wayfinder, the engines answered to no one. Furthermore, Netherworld travel using these devices often attracted Nether-spirits and "demons", forcing Sith to protect both Crew and Fleet using Battle Meditation and similar powers, else they'd be possessed by spirits or madness.

DESCRIPTION
They called them "Hellmouths". great beasts of quadanium and alusteel which ferried Sith fleets through the Netherworld, tearing fiery rifts in their path. They were designed around the Netheric-gate Engine, an invention of the warrior-enchantress, Darth Anathemous, who schemed to aid the Great Hunt and cripple the Jedi by providing the Sith Covenant with unconventional weapons that would demoralize the the Core Worlds.

Countless months of experimentation and meticulous planning resulted in these Battlecruisers, designed to serve as fearsome command ships, shepherding whole fleets through their portals and into the Netherworld, their sole hope of escaping that hellish land and reaching worlds they would despoil. The engines were rare of course, so too were the navigators she trained to use them. In the end these vessels were as much a scheme to expand her influence as they were a boon. Her engines. Her navigators. Her control.

They were a boon however. The prototype, a monster named "Hellmother", proved exceptional at avoiding everything from Interdictors to Stormseeds, turning a fully fledged Stardestroyer into a surprise attacker that could thwart ambush and defenses both.

Ever forward, that was it's design philosophy. Circumnavigating hyperspace anomalies, ramming through enemy lines while spitting boarding pods in it's wake, or guiding Sith through the great firestorm beyond, it didn't matter. They weren't terribly efficient in maneuver warfare, requiring either an enemy to conquer with brute force alone or careful coordination with an escorting fleet, but that was the beauty of it; In all the chaos, a Hellmouth forced Sith to rely on one another.
