DESCRIPTION

Bladesmith and armorer Gel Karn spent most of his life in forced servitude to the Sith, having been imprisoned on the factory world of Seswenna for the last 15 years of his life. His fortunes, however, would change with the arrival of Siv Dragr and the Iron Covenant, who rescued him from slavery and helped him escape the clutches of the Sith once and for all. Immensely grateful to his saviors, Gel sworn and oath of loyalty to Siv Dragr and the Covenant and sent about forging a sword for him, crafting the so called Sword of Aay'han.

In the language of the Mandalorians, Aay'han means "bittersweet perfect moment of mourning and joy", and such a description applies to Gel Karn rather perfectly. Gel remains unbelievably grateful to the Iron Covenant for saving him, and by extension quite happy with his new situation, but also deeply ashamed of the years he spent making weapons and armors for his Sith oppressors. To ensure he would never forget what he had been forced to do, Gel named the sword for Siv "Aay'han", and he hopes that he might one day redeem himself for what he has done so that he no longer needs to mourn the lives he has destroyed with the wares he had created.

Beyond its symbolic meaning, the Sword of Aay'han is a relatively standard vibroblade weapon, though one fashioned in the size and shape of a Beskad, or traditional Mandalorian sword. The Sword of Aay'han is incredibly durable, thanks to its primarily Beskar construction, and possesses incredible cutting power and an advanced energy damage dealing power cell. Gel sincerely hopes that the Sword of Aay'han will serve Siv Dragr well as he continues his quest to eradicate the Sith from the galaxy and help redeem Gel in the process.

DESCRIPTION

As Gel Karn made his escape from captivity with the help of Siv Dragr and the Iron Covenant, he took with him a pair of Vonduun Crab legs that he used as makeshift daggers, having been completely disarmed by his Sith captors and psychologically conditioned into being essentially incapable of using blasters or slugthrowers against his enemies. Once safely on Kestri, Gel decided to use the unusual items in the construction of a new weapon: the so called "Bev Shield".

In the language of the Mandalorians, Bev means "needle" or "spike", a rather apt description of what Gel ended up creating. Starting with a central Beskar disk, Gel attached the Vonduun Crab legs to the top and bottom of the shield, with one pointing upwards and the other pointing downwards. He tend added a Beskar spike on both Vonduun Crab legs and wrapped them in a thin layer of Cortosis, creating a shield that could be used both offensively and defensively against his enemies.

Gel can use the central Beskar disk to punch with and the Vonduun Crab legs to stab with, along with being able to block lightsabers with nearly any part of the shield itself, thanks to the fact that the Bev Shield is constructed nearly entirely out of lightsaber resistant materials. The Bev Shield can even be used to block Sith Lightning much like a lightsaber can, though this is quite difficult to do in practice.

Of course, the Bev Shield comes with a host of downsides, as it is nearly useless against ranged attacks, rather inconvenient to carry on one's person and takes quite a bit of practice to get used to using offensively. Nonetheless, the Bev Shield is a solid alternate option of Gel to carry with him into the field of battle in place of his Vibroshield or another weapon or device.

Gel Karn has taken this concept even further with the creation of what he calls a "Mandalorian Dueling Shield", a lightweight Beskar buckler with a number of unique and novel features that are designed to make the shield far more versatile in combat.

The Mandalorian Dueling Shield employs a "caged buckler" design, which allows the shield to not only redirect enemy vibroblades but to catch and trap them, rendering them harmless to the person using the shield. Being able to disarm an opponent in the middle of a fight can prove to be a huge advantage, and the excels at doing so reliably. The Mandalorian Dueling Shield also comes equipped with a front facing hook, which too can be used to deflect and trap vibroblades but is more often used to hang the shield off of one's belt.

When hung in this manner, the shield's handle faces outward, allowing the shield to be drawn rapidly and comfortably, without having to worry about using the shield or keeping it on one's person. Of course, such shields are by no means a perfect defensive item, as they are quite small and nearly useless against ranged attacks and can accidentally get an opponent's weapon "stuck" in them, making them far more unwieldy than they might be otherwise. Nonetheless, the Mandalorian Dueling Shield is an attractive option for any Mandalorian warrior looking to engage in melee combat with all the possible advantages that they can get.

DESCRIPTION

One of the most dangerous weapons in Gel Karn 's varied arsenal is also a deceptively simple one: the humble Caltrop, an area denial weapon that has existed for thousands of years throughout galactic history. The versions made by Gel and those in the Iron Covenant are constructed primarily out of Beskar, making them nearly indestructible and capable of functioning without failing for decades, if not centuries.

Resembling an oversized Jack, each Beskar Caltrop contains four exceptionally sharp points, and because of the way that the weapon is constructed, one of these four point will always end up facing upward no matter how the Beskar Caltrop is dropped or thrown. After being thrown or strewn about, one need simply to wait for an enemy to step on top of the Beskar Caltrop, delivering grievous damage to their foot or feet and potentially taking them out of commission.

Beskar Caltrops are similarly effective against Sithspawn and Groundcars, being able to puncture the toughest hides and tires, and can easily pierce through metal boots on some of the most durable powered armor systems, making them potent weapons against both armored and unarmored infantry. Unfortunately, Beskar Caltrops are vastly less effective against droids and mechanical units, and are essentially useless against anything that hovers or flies. When used correctly or in large numbers however, Beskar Caltrops become potent psychological weapons, and the mere notion of these weapons being deployed onto a battlefield is often enough to slow an enemy's advance down to a crawl.

WEAKNESSES

• Blasters: Though Mandalorian Jazerants protect well against glancing blaster bolts and lower powered weapons, more powerful blasters can punch "holes" through the Beskar Chainmail
• Piercing: It is theoretically possible, though immensely difficult, to stab through a Mandalorian Jazerant should the weapon have an especially sharp and narrow point
• Blunt force trauma: Though highly effectively against melee weapons in general, the Mandalorian Jazrant is marginally less effective against blunt weapons
• Exposed: The Mandalorian Jazerant leaves the head, neck, forearms and legs exposed to attack, requiring additional armor to keep those areas of the body safe
• The heat is on: Though the Mandalorian Jazerant can be worn in essentially any climate, the user may find themselves getting uncomfortably warm on planets with hotter climates

DESCRIPTION

Though Mandalorian culture is very much a warrior's society, there are times where wearing Mandalorian Armor may not always be necessarily appropriate, such as when attending diplomatic meetings, banquets, balls or parties. Yet any proper Mandalorian would never venture out into the galaxy without being able to defend himself or herself, causing something of a clothing conundrum for any Mandalorian trying to go about his or her day. To solve this problem, Gel Karn has invented a rather unusual piece of hidden armor: the Mandalorian Jazerant.

At a glance, a Mandalorian Jazerant appears to be indistinguishable from a normal piece of clothing, but the reality is far different. Hidden inside the Mandalorian Jazerant is a layer of Beskar Chainmail sandwiched between other layers of fabric, giving its wearer a surprisingly large amount of defense against kinetic strikes and lightsabers. The Mandalorian Jazerant even provides a decent amount of protection against energy attacks and blasters, though these kinds of weapons can find "holes" in the Beskar Chainmail, making the armor less effective against them.

Looking or touching a Mandalorian Jazerant does not reveal the Beskar Chainmail inside, and the garment does not make any distinctive sound due to the other layers of fabric muffling the noise that chainmail would normally make. Scanners do not work on Mandalorian Jazerants either, due to the garment having a layer of Baffleweave sewn into it. A Mandalorian Jazerant is a stylish and smart piece of clothing for any self respecting Mandalorian, one that can be used for everyday wear and the most formal of occassions.
