DESCRIPTION

Bladesmith and armorer Gel Karn Gel Karn spent most of his life in forced servitude to the Sith, having been imprisoned on the factory world of Seswenna for the last 15 years of his life. His fortunes, however, would change with the arrival of Siv Dragr Siv Dragr and the Iron Covenant, who rescued him from slavery and helped him escape the clutches of the Sith once and for all. Immensely grateful to his saviors, Gel sworn and oath of loyalty to Siv Dragr Siv Dragr and the Covenant and sent about forging a sword for him, crafting the so called Sword of Aay'han.

In the language of the Mandalorians, Aay'han means "bittersweet perfect moment of mourning and joy", and such a description applies to Gel Karn Gel Karn rather perfectly. Gel remains unbelievably grateful to the Iron Covenant for saving him, and by extension quite happy with his new situation, but also deeply ashamed of the years he spent making weapons and armors for his Sith oppressors. To ensure he would never forget what he had been forced to do, Gel named the sword for Siv "Aay'han", and he hopes that he might one day redeem himself for what he has done so that he no longer needs to mourn the lives he has destroyed with the wares he had created.

Beyond its symbolic meaning, the Sword of Aay'han is a relatively standard vibroblade weapon, though one fashioned in the size and shape of a Beskad, or traditional Mandalorian sword. The Sword of Aay'han is incredibly durable, thanks to its primarily Beskar construction, and possesses incredible cutting power and an advanced energy damage dealing power cell. Gel sincerely hopes that the Sword of Aay'han will serve Siv Dragr Siv Dragr well as he continues his quest to eradicate the Sith from the galaxy and help redeem Gel in the process.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Shield.
  • Weight: Light.
  • Resistances:
    • Energy: Very High.
    • Kinetic: Extreme.
    • Lightsabers: Extreme.
    • Environmental: Low.
    • EMP/ION: Low.
    • Radiation: Very Low.
    • Sonic: None.
    • Acid: Average.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Relatively light
  • Nearly indestructible construction
  • Central Beskar disk can be used to both offensively and defensively
  • Vonduun Crab legs can also be used to both block attacks and stab with
  • Possible, albeit difficult, to block Sith Lightning with the Bev Shield in the same vein as a lightsaber
STRENGTHS
  • Exceptionally tough: The Bev Shield is nearly indestructible, thanks to the unusual metals and materials that went into its construction
  • Lightsaber resistance: The Bev Shield is easily capable of blocking lightsabers, and thanks to the Cortosis used in its construction, can also potentially "short out" lightsabers that come into contact with it
  • Offense is the best defense: The Bev Shield's Beskar center can be used to both block and punch with, as can its Beskar reinforced Vonduun Crab legs, making the shield an unpredictable variable to face off against in combat
  • Lightning rod: It is entirely possible, albeit difficult, to block Sith Lightning with the Bev Shield, in much the same way one might do with a lightsaber
  • Handy: Compared to many other shields, the Bev Shield is rather lightweight and handy, making it a useful tool for close quarters combat
WEAKNESSES
  • Small: The actual blocking surface on the Bev Shield is quite small, making it nearly useless against ranged weaponry
  • Unusual: Fighting with the Bev Shield takes quite a bit of practice to get used to, especially when trying to use the shield's Vonduun Crab legs offensively
  • Active participant: Unlike other shields, which tend to protect their user passively by their size, the Bev Shield only protects its user when used actively
  • Inconvenient: Though it is fairly lightweight and handy, it is nearly impossible to wear the Bev Shield on one's person, forcing the user to hold the shield in their off hand or drop it when necessary
  • Exotic: Should the Bev Shield somehow become damaged, repairing it becomes nearly impossible due to the scarcity of the materials that went into its construction
DESCRIPTION

As Gel Karn Gel Karn made his escape from captivity with the help of Siv Dragr Siv Dragr and the Iron Covenant, he took with him a pair of Vonduun Crab legs that he used as makeshift daggers, having been completely disarmed by his Sith captors and psychologically conditioned into being essentially incapable of using blasters or slugthrowers against his enemies. Once safely on Kestri, Gel decided to use the unusual items in the construction of a new weapon: the so called "Bev Shield".

In the language of the Mandalorians, Bev means "needle" or "spike", a rather apt description of what Gel ended up creating. Starting with a central Beskar disk, Gel attached the Vonduun Crab legs to the top and bottom of the shield, with one pointing upwards and the other pointing downwards. He tend added a Beskar spike on both Vonduun Crab legs and wrapped them in a thin layer of Cortosis, creating a shield that could be used both offensively and defensively against his enemies.

Gel can use the central Beskar disk to punch with and the Vonduun Crab legs to stab with, along with being able to block lightsabers with nearly any part of the shield itself, thanks to the fact that the Bev Shield is constructed nearly entirely out of lightsaber resistant materials. The Bev Shield can even be used to block Sith Lightning much like a lightsaber can, though this is quite difficult to do in practice.

Of course, the Bev Shield comes with a host of downsides, as it is nearly useless against ranged attacks, rather inconvenient to carry on one's person and takes quite a bit of practice to get used to using offensively. Nonetheless, the Bev Shield is a solid alternate option of Gel to carry with him into the field of battle in place of his Vibroshield or another weapon or device.

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Nearly indestructible
  • Physically small and difficult to spot
  • Effective against both organic infantry and Groundcars
  • When thrown, always lands with a "point" facing upwards
  • Barbed heads makes removal from the body much more difficult
STRENGTHS
  • Small: Beskar Caltrops are quite physically small, making them rather easy to conceal and difficult to spot
  • Simple: Beskar Caltrops can be constructed by even the most novice armorsmiths, allowing them to be produced in enormous numbers
  • Painful: Stepping on a Beskar Caltrop is highly likely to cause serious injury, potentially incapacitating anyone unlucky enough to step on one
  • Barbed: Beskar Caltrops are barbed, making them much more difficult to remove from the body once stepped on
  • Indestructible: Beskar Caltrops are incredibly durable and nearly impossible to destroy, allowing them to function for years at a time without failing
  • Psychological warefare: The mere notion of Beskar Caltrops being deployed onto the battlefield is often enough to give enemy organic units pause
WEAKNESSES
  • Passive: Beskar Caltrops rely on the enemy stepping on top of them, making them quite passive weapons
  • Droids: Though Beskar Caltrops can damage droids with legs, they are far less effective against mechanical units
  • Repulsorlift: Beskar Caltrops are essentially useless against anything that hovers or utilizes repulsorlifts
  • Inefficient: Scattering Beskar Caltrops around a battlefield can be time consuming and inefficient, though this can be made much faster if dropped from vehicles or starships
  • Double edged: Beskar Caltrops do not discriminate against friend or foe, and allied forces who are careless may end up stepping on their own Beskar Caltrops
  • Wasteful: Some might make the argument that using a rare metal like Beskar for Caltrops is wasteful, and those who make such an argument are not entirely wrong
DESCRIPTION

(Describe some of the histories behind the submission. Give us some idea of how it might perform its function, what it excels against and what some limitations of it are. This is where you talk about your idea, flesh it out over at least a good-sized paragraph, and address some of the ways it might be used or abused. For especially powerful or ambitious submissions, a very thorough description is recommended.)
