Gamechanger: Raid on Kayri [Mandalorians]

Thud.

Thud.

It broke.

Combat was always initiated by something breaking. Silence. Tranquility. A sense of security. It was shattered, broken in an instance. Rounds and bolts spit towards Preliat's position. He had joined solely out of boredom, and an intense desire to inflict murder on the Sith. He moved like his namesake, low and to the ground. He was fast, fast and on the trail of [member="Alec Rekali"]. He came upon attacking the wall, and looked upwards. He withdrew the tomahawk from it's place on his arm, and the Westar he kept on his thigh. He curled his crushgaunt-adorned fingers moments, before he looked over at the Rekali. He couldn't jump over the wall with his jetpack.

The wall was starting to crack. Defenders were coming towards her, reacting to the break in their defense. So Preliat maneuvered his sidearm upwards, turning his head momentarily to view [member="Ijaat Mereel"] firing at them as well. Preliat fired two well-aimed shot that found purchase in the chest of the defenders, sending them both sprawling away in death.

"Break the wall and we will break their capability to defend against us. Do so quickly, Rekali."

"Doesn't look like, we'll need to vod!" Lorsima remarked looking back toward the young one, [member="Elpsis Elaris"] - as she followed in after [member="Alec Rekali"] and [member="Ijaat Mereel"]. There were booms, and then more booms followed by shots, now this was turning into a proper raid! Granted when the bits of dust and rock came flying her way, she did her best avoid it. Rock was not on the menu that was for sure, thankfully her armor held up, didn't mean things didn't sting just not nearly as much. She watched as both Ijaat and [member="Preliat Mantis"] took aims at those shooting down at Rekali.

A crack had begun to appear but it was a crack, in a well-made wall. She cursed for not having brought some sort of explosives launcher or some alternative form of breaking the wall. What she could do was aim her rifle for those starting to crowd them in this area. Lorsima had never been particularly good with rifles, and thus it took her a lot longer to get those shots off. Each squeeze of the trigger created some sort of reaction, and while their enemies focused on her they seemed to forget her vod.

Boom! "Well, that simplifies things," Elpsis commented happily when the wall began to crack. Booms, more booms and gun shots. Columns of dust billowed up into the air, pieces of rock came flying towards her.

She could have simply tossed them aside with telekinesis...if...she pushed that thought out of the metaphorical airlock as soon as it manifested. It was time to stop moping about what she'd have done. Fortunately she was wearing Auntie Siobhan's old beskar'gam. For a change, the redhead would not be complaining about how heavy it felt on her shoulders, for she was grateful for the protection.

Hostiles put the Mandalorians under fire, more enemies died. She grit her teeth, trying to steel herself against the empathic backlash. Their pain, anger and fear resonated so strongly in her mind. For a few moments her firing ceased, as she struggled to focus and blot the pain out. Her breathing intensified. It was like in the Netherworld all over again, when her empathy had gone nuts and she'd been without her admittedly at that time weak protection. Like in the Netherworld...

There was one pleasant memory she associated with her trip to hell. Xerexes...on his knees, helpless and in pain. Without his powers, the monster who'd haunted her for so long was powerless. His mocking words and cackling had turned to cries of agony when she blew his knees away. Then did creative things with a vibroknife. It was an image she hung on to, drawing strength from it. So she squeezed the trigger of her rifle and fired, taking out defenders at long range. As they came closer, she brought forth her bolt pistol and the gun roared. APEB rounds connecting with vital body parts was a most unpleasant experience.

"That's unlucky." He'd said as the first warrior to attempt a jet-powered leap over the minefield was vivisected by the mono-filament defenses, though his tone was characteristically devoid of any actual sympathy. He did feel a momentary wash of relief at the fact he was too heavy to use a conventional jetpack, however, as he'd have likely been the first one to attempt the jump otherwise.

Following the others through the shield and across the recently cleared mono-filament forest, Bloodshot quickly grew impatient as they waited for the Rekali woman to yell her way through the wall (so to speak). When the waiting finally grew too much, he drew the Grahala'shok at his right hip, loaded a magazine of remote charges into the grenade launcher, and fired once at the wall about ten meters down. The explosive stuck with a dull thump, and he depressed the detonator switch a moment later, blowing a meter-and-a-half hole in the metal-reinforced duracrete structure.

Without a word, he moved to the hole a stuck his head through, almost instantly receiving a scalding red blaster burn mark on his buy'ce for his trouble. Reaching through with his pistol, two more thuds could be heard from the other side as he tagged a pair of defensive emplacements in the courtyard beyond, then pulled back and depressed the detonator trigger, sending two columns of fire and smoke billowing over the top of the wall after a thunderous pair of explosions. By the force he did love a bit of violence.

Unlike most of the other mandalorians with a talent for accessing the force, his own capabilities were far less diminished by its absence, owing to his natural lack of ability with most traditional powers. He could still feel the minds of both his brethren and the castle's defenders, however, as his telepathic abilities did not rely on that most divisive of energy fields. It was a good thing, too. Violence was never as much fun when you couldn't feel your victims dying around you. The sojourn at the new fortress on Myrkr had been nice for a time, but it was good to be back in the thick of battle again. A point reiterated in his behavior as he charged through the hole in the wake of his explosive attack.

Not yet having his own true Beskar'gam Rekali the Hutt instead brought a Vondunn Skerr Hutta to battle. A yuuzhan Vong invention or breed, depending on how one looked at it, that had enough energy resistance to hold up to a lightsaber, or buy him some time from blaster fire. Slithering over to the pole which the Bard was shooting the young Hutt took out a large durasteel axe and began chopping. A heavy strike would follow a blaster bolt, which would follow an axe blow, which would follow another blaster bolt as the Mandalorian Bard and Hutts got into a rhythm. Rekali the Hutt took his fair share of blaster fire as he chopped, but the armor would hold as the snipers provided him cover fire, making sure he never got twice by the same man.

It took some effort of course, but the pole came crashing down. Those of the Mandalorians with audio sense enhancing helmets would hear the snap of the monofiliment wire, designed for maximum damage rather than durability. All would be able to hear the subsequent explosions as the pole landed on the minefield, somewhat clearing a path.

"I need coverfire." The 500kg Hutt would usher throughout the commlink as he got behind the fallen pole and began to push it in a roll. If there were any more mines ahead they would be triggered by the pole he was rolling, and hopefully not strong enough to kill him after damaging the battered pole.

The Mandalorians, it seemed, had found half a dozen separate ways to handle the monofilament lines.

Sonic weapons roared, and stone foundations cracked. Blasters, cutting torches, thermal detonators, wrist rockets -- the Mandalorians forces began to chew their way through the walls of the fort. In short order, a handful of breaches opened up. Mandalorians streamed inside, into the fort's lower levels. Connory, armor smoking from stray fire, pounded into the breach alongside them. A rousing chorus of Vode An thundered in the corridors.

He'd been Force-sensitive once, briefly, by his own design; he no longer had those senses, those instincts. Other Force-sensitives, he knew, might be able to feel the pieces of void stone in a roundabout way, by recognizing when their Force connections were especially impaired. The vast majority of the raiding party, however, would just have to identify the rocks with sight and common sense. Black stone, a bit crumbly, mounted in ancient amulets made for insectoid bodies: fairly distinctive. Connory found his first piece within fifteen metres after he entered the breach. He stripped away the metal mounting with a firm twist and stowed the rock in his belt pouch. A few of the raiders, he knew, might forget raider protocol and this mission's objective, and keep a piece or two of void stone. He couldn't really blame them: the stuff was justly priceless. But the bulk of the take, the void stone part of the take at any rate, would wind up being forged into a new invention. Connory's brainchild, with Mandalorian smiths as the midwives. Voidsteel.

Scruffy Lookin’ Nerfherder
"OYA!"

Roared Kade Kelborn, launching out from behind the shell Hutt in a dead run toward the nearest breach in the wall. Blaster fire poured down from above, kicking up clods of dirt in sprays of sparks. Several struck the beskar cuirass hard enough to bruise the chest beneath, leaving pocked scorch marks in the armor. Kelborn shrugged them off, no more than arrows to a Krayt Dragon, and barreled into the gap.

A short boost from the jetpack carried him up over the heads of the defenders. Their fusillade fire tore through the air underneath him. He fired a mini-rocket from his wrist into their midst, then cut the jets and slammed feet first into the center of the blast zone. Kade's beskad hummed through the air. Blood sprayed. Screaming, incoherent. He used the dark length of razor-edged iron more like a bludgeoning tool than a sword. No finesse. No art. Nothing but pure, ruthless practically. Bones cracked audibly. Limbs fell flopping from their hosts.

Kade's muffled laughter issued from inside the black and red helmet as he cut down one after the other.

The butt end of a rifle rammed into the back of his helmet. He stumbled forward, whirled about, knocked the weapon up with a swing, then slashed underneath. The edge of the sword unzipped the Fringer's belly. The contents within spilled out in a red-slick jumbled mass. The backhand took off his head.

The Mandalorian turned, seeking another foe within the breach.

Not receiving any reply the Verpine shrugged and adjusted the hover the shuttle was in. Bringing it up a few feet so it was clear of the trees the Verpine opened fire on the shield with two blaster cannons. Compound eyes simultaneously watching his co-pilot maintain the hover, the heat sensors on the weapons, and where he was shooting Sko'saht started to steadily whittle down the shields.

Once more unto the breach!

Or something similarly dramatic. The fortress' defences had been breached and the monofilament lines overcome, Mandalorians stormed in. Death followed in their wake as they chewed their way into the citadel. A chorus of Vode an rose to the heavens. Blasterfire rained down upon them, grenades were tossed, explosions and cries of pain were heard, but it was a losing battle for the defenders.

Elpsis' armour was scorched by blasterfire as she made her way up, but it did its job protecting her well enough. Her Force senses were strongly impaired as she got closer to the mysterious black stone that was the cause of this quest, but that did not matter. She had stopped worrying, stopped yearning for the supernatural power that she had been so afraid of once. Pain and foreign emotions continued to assault her mind through her empathy, but she was steeled against the barrage. Perhaps the rush some Mandalorians gained from combat had proved contagious.

Either way, she gave herself over to battle. No fire powers, but her gauntlet had a flamethrower and it spat out a volley of scalding heat to engulf a charging opponent. Her bolt pistol roared, spitting out armour-shredding projectiles at close distance. The recoil was tremendous and it took a lot of strength to hold the weapon. Two guars died, she used the pistol as a club to knock another one out. Wielding a spear of Rae like a halberd when her magazine clicked empty, she forced her way through. The black stone was close, as evidenced by her strongly impaired Force senses, and she soon happened upon it.

The walls bowed before the Mandalorians, and as the breaches were made the clans made their way inside the fortress. As water courses through the river only to end up in the ocean. So did they course through the fortress only to end up at the heart of their quest, voidstone. "Vod an!" She chanted in time with the rousing chorus that grew. Guards fired at her, blaster bolts smashing into the Gratiir beskar'gam scoring it as it did so, she responded with her maul. Lorsima took out her hammer, a fairly basic hammer in the eyes of the Mandalorians.

The blood of the guards splattered as the heavy bludgeoning object made contact with their bodies, and heads, repeatedly. When she couldn't beat them over with her maul she was kicking them down with her boots. "Par te Mando'ade, cuyir adenn Vod!" Lorsima shouted firmly, and admired how her companion fought, "gar akaanir pirusti tracyn'ika!" Complimenting the little red headed girl. Pressing further into the breach, the guards cried out in pain and she relished in it.

Thundering down the corridor, she swung with precision, she swung knowing it took her longer to swing her weapon than it did for the guards to fire at her, but that was alright. She enjoyed the pain, each sting she felt only served to enrage her further and like a raging barbarian of olden days she roared through it. Her swings becoming more powerful as her rage and intensity grew, her eyes scanned up ahead, "there vod! There! The voidstone!" She recognizes the crumbly black stone.
