Connel Vanagor Connel Vanagor

A dead serious, nearly deadpan look fell over Colette.

"Connel, if you don't think manly men cry you've got the wrong heroes." She grumbled. "But I get it. It's a crutch and there's nothing wrong with that."

It wasn't for her to advice on, but she'd still think the mask had to go eventually or he'd risk never being able to process things. Especially the rougher emotions that took time to learn how to navigate through.

"Just be careful, is all I ask." She crossed her arms. "Where's Omega heading off to next?"

Sage Advice. He doesn’t kid that often, if ever, that’s why she did not pick up on it. So there was no reason to correct her or clarify, it was good even to see someone show they care.

When Colette brought up the issues of the mask itself, he understood. It’s funny you bring that up. He smirked again, looking at it. I use it less and less because it had started becoming my identity… I was becoming less visible without it. I made a conscious change.

He shrugged. Now I use it when I need to stay focused.

While Colette wasn't aware of what it was like to be identified through a thing it was still something she had read about. It seemed horrible. Made a person less of an individual and more of a symbol, neither of which existed without the other. She tried not to read too deeply into it or she'd risk falling back into a talking point from her past about the impermanence of existence.

Neither of them really wanted that.

"Sounds best to treat it more like a tool, yeah." Colette nodded and pushed off the workshop table to continue feeding cartridges with plasma. "Not that I meant to say you were stupid to use it."

"Just worried, trying to look out for the people I care about, you know? Before the war comes knocking. Make sure we're all in this together, so to speak."

Yeah, it comes out when I need it to, but only when I need it to. A “tool” indeed. He nodded, it was good to be able to say that, it was something that Connel had been working on for a while, and it finally was able to be a reality. A difficult reality, but a truth he needed to realize.

When Colette admitted she cared, Connel smiled. Thank you for saying that. Contrary to past evidence I’m not closed off and appreciate the thought. We all do. In the end, we all have families to go home to. All married with children. He smirked again, looking at his left hand instinctively. I never thought you believed that, and if you did, you were welcome to. It’s not simply a hat. He smirked.

When she mentioned things to come, he inhaled. As long as ones are in it for the right reasons. Foreshadowing?

Married? Children? Colette grimaced, although she suspected that was part of what Connel had hoped for. She was far too young and far too active in something actively dangerous to even consider that. Granted, so was Connel but that was a matter of differing priorities.

"Yeah, well, I have a gut feeling we'll need all kinds of voices in the coming days." Colette snickered to herself and began charging another cartridge. "There's a tension. Hard to say whatabout."

Her voice lowered into a whisper. "Might have to start keeping stricter checks on the inventory. I've already caught some of the younger clerks trying to cover something up. They just don't know they're caught yet."

I wasn’t looking for anything with anyone either, it just happened. He nodded, it was good to be able to say that. It’s funny how life has a way of surprising you when you least expect it.

When Colette brought up her concerns, Connel agreed. I get that. I’m not around as much as you, but I see a lot of impatience. He didn’t really elaborate because he didn’t truly know what it was about. It will work itself out. He sighed. Thinking of the last time he saw and felt that way was a long time ago at a gathering on Crait.

When listening to her, he did not like what she was saying, not that she was. Need anything from us?
