Force Imbuement and Kyber Crystals [ Jedi Academy, NJO & GA ]

JEDI ACADEMY | HOUSE EGLAREST
Atrium Garden and Training Grounds

Deep underground, within the lichen gardens and biomes, was the Sullust Jedi Academy. While the Jedi Academy would work in conjunction with the New Jedi Order, the Jedi Academy was an area to provide all professors and students within the House network to be able to study, teach, and learn.

Moderate sized, this academy would utilize the deep volcanic hot springs and slow moving volcanic eruptions to create natural forges. Taking inspiration from the ancient Jedaii Temple of Vur Tepe, House Eglarest came to be. While it catered to various areas, it’s specialty lay in being a place of study where students learned the ways of the Force through metallurgy and the construction of tools and weapons.

The Hot Springs
The Hot springs here are fed from deep underground water reservoirs from Sullust’s core. Naturally heated by geothermal activity, they feed mineral rich hot springs which are known for their healing properties. None know the specifics about it, but by the will of the Force, these springs have been said to accelerate healing and rejuvenate not only the body, but the mind and spirit.

The Circle of Healers are invited to utilize the Hot Springs as well as the Crystal chambers for their use.

The Crystal Healing Chambers

Deep underground crystal chambers have been uncovered near the Sullust Jedi Academy. Akin to those of the Healing Fire Crystals, a patient placed within their presence has been said to promote healing for a variety of needs. While they are not as powerful as the Healing Fire Crystals or the Ankarres Sapphire, their presence has provided a small venue to promote their use by the Circle of Healers.

The Forge | Caldera
The Force is set against the lip of a caldera, allowing Academy students the location to forge force imbued weapons and create their crafts. Here, under the guidance of Knight Varek, the lost methodolgies of Vur Tepe are once again taught to those who can respect the tradition and do so with the intent to combine craftmanship with the desire to help others.

Some say that the more it is used as a location for lightside imbuement, that the chance of this potentially becoming a small lightside nexus may result in time. For now, it is simply a venue for students to learn and pass on their knowledge to the next generation.

The Atrium
This vast open underground chamber is an isolated garden that holds a wealth of botanical plants, flora, and small fauna. Here, the unique underground environment along with the heat and humidity have created viable bubble for life to flourish. Ithorian, Zelosian, Ho’din, and Morodin masters frequent the atrium, enjoying to wander the vast garden and educate students on the importance of horiculture and maintaining a balance.

The Residence Halls
The residence halls for students and guests are literally carved into the cavern walls. They are kept heated from geothermal energy and provide simple, but pleasant accommodations for residents of the Academy. They are lay in a semi circle, facing inward towards the atrium with the distant glow of the Forge and Caldera in the background.

The Training Areas
There are several training areas for students as well as for conferences. House Eglarest promotes an open venue for teaching, desiring to not remain cooped up indoors for long. They utilize the environment as living facilities for training and on the job practical application.

And to anyone within the New Jedi Order or Jedi Academy that may want to join.

Knight Rhen Qel-Droma stood beside a small collection of glowing cerulean crystals. They were Upari crystals collected from a sister House Academy on Kashyyyk. The Old Corellian gave a small smile, plucking a small crystal between his thumb and forefinger.

He was here to teach a class on Crystalurgy, and a basic application of cutting a Upari Crystal to create a specific, but minor effect. It was a type of lightsaber crystal primarily encountered scattered in the orbit of forest worlds. It was brittle but versatile, and a Jedi Master could get it to produce many effects. A Wookiee clan on Kashyyyk could cut an Upari stone to use as decorative jewelry. The cutting altered the effects of the crystal making it more powerful. There was also a lesson on basic Force Imbuement that would come after. For now, he was waiting to see which students would be coming to train and learn with him today.

Sullust had been about as welcoming as Loken had expected.

Everything was dry heat and tight corridors. Life was industrial, and everywhere the Echani warrior turned he felt the presence of people. It was the antithesis to Dxun, and while he was pleased to be free of that murderous world's vine-choked grasp, the Sullustan world wasn't much of a comfort. Getting authorization to land had been difficult to begin with -- that sort of thing tended to be when your ship was unmarked. Indeed, the vessel itself had been impounded, and an investigation by the port authorities was now underway. Fortunately, the men working the security desk had allowed the twins passage when they explained their desire to enter the tutelage of the Jedi.

That was, of course, a lie. Loken had no idea there was a Jedi temple on Sullust, only that he had little choice other than to abscond to what his parents would have considered a backwater in their time. Judging from the vast fleet movements within the void around the planet, and the near constant traffic of the flight lanes, that was no longer the case. The twins only knew that a temple stood here, though Loken had expected it to be of Echani make considering the allegiance of the man whom had referred them.

That, as with his previous assumptions, was evidently not the case.

With their ship impounded and very few credits to their name, the Blake men couldn't really afford to avoid the temple anyway. They felt the force; it had been with them since birth. Even know, Loken relied on Kaden's sight as a proxy to take Sullust in. He would have missed the choking smoke and the great cavern walls with his own limited vision. Entering the temple had not been particularly difficult: it seemed there was a class going on, and the guardian assumed the two young men were to attend. When asked about the two Zakkeg pups that followed in their wake, Loken had explained that leaving the babies to their own devices would have likely resulted in their deaths, and so the infants followed their surrogate parents rather closely through the temple halls.

"It smells like mother's old sparring hall, bre'thro," Loken muttered through the telepathic link that bound him to [member="Kaden Blake"]. "Do you think -" Loken's thoughts were interrupted as the guardian led them into a room of crystals. The Echani could not make sense of their significance, though he'd thought that he heard the guardian muttering something about crystalurgy or...something.

What drew Loken's attention was the man fiddling with one of those crystals. The young Echani quirked a brow, Kahliir the Zakkeg pup huddling up at his feet. With the slightest of trepidation, Loken stepped forward.

"Hello," he bowed his head forward and made the sign of the moon over his chest. "My brother and I are here to learn," he lied.

"I'm Loken," he gestured toward the man at his side. "This is Kaden. Don't worry about the pups -- they won't bother anything. but we can't leave them alone right now."

He'd just returned from dealing with a turf war back on Coruscant with Trextan, this all fell after he barely survived a duel with a Sith back on Nar Shaddaa. In all honesty, he was still dealing with the aftermath. He'd gotten back into death sticks, and have been using them secretly but hadn't the time since coming back from Coruscant seeing as how he didn't go straight home. He had a training session scheduled and since it was on Sullust...what better way than to go to the Hot Springs to gather himself before proceeding.

He sat there as his body absorbed the heat, the water condensed on his skin and the moisture made his hair wet.

Sigh.

"Chit..." Thats all he could really say, his mind wouldn't let him speak anymore after that. He sat back and closed his eyes before pushing his head back against the stone surface behind him.

--------------------------

He walked through the training hall entrance with his arms up, bent at the elbow, and his hands resting on the back of his head. His face was stiff, and it seemed to others who looked at him that he was disinterested. His boots made his steps heavy and those could be heard as he walked towards the front.

"Crystal cutting and Force Imbuement huh?" he said under his breath.

He saw a familiar figure, and immediately approached him seeing as there was one explanation for him being here. "How ya doing Old man Rhen?" He said calmly, his eyes were closed just as he stood there but then opened them with a slight smirk forming as he addressed the instructor.

"You have to follow your own path."
Sullust.

The further they ventured into the planet the more bad things happened to them. Kaden did not expect the port authorities to believe that someone just "gave" their ship to the man. So when it came time to produce proof of ownership he was not surprised by what happened. The Wayward Wandered had been impounded until a time that it could be determined whether it truly belonged to the Blake brothers or not. As they made their way out of the spaceport Kaden reached out to his brother, drawing on their connection in the force to speak to the man. 'Son of a hutt...Just got that damn thing.'

A tired expression came over him as he glanced back to the two Zakkeg pups that trailed behind the twins. Ya'lea and Kahliir had taken a rather obvious shine to the brothers. Though they had quickly asserted themselves as the pups new parents they were well received and for the most part, obeyed.

They made their way to the only thing they had plans towards. The Jedi Temple. Jedi, Kaden had always been amused the design of the Jedi and their fabled code. Their views on the force were admirable and even their lifestyle left little to be desired, never the less it had never been a wish of either brother to join the aged order. They were the sons of Eshan before anything else, and it had not been a necessity in their training to become a robed warrior of the Galactic Alliance. Kaden was pulled from his thoughts when his brother remarked on the similar smell to their mother's own training courts.

An amused smirk came to Kaden's face as he reached out to Loken once again. 'Indeed. There are a few similarities actually.'

They found themselves brought before an aged Jedi, who seemed to be in wait of something, or perhaps someone. Having not paid their escort any attention he was slightly behind his brother's knowledge on what was to come. As Loken spoke Kaden reached out to him once again. 'I will not speak. For now I will listen.' His thoughts were sent to his brother as he mimicked his twins greeting, placing a crescent moon symbol over his chest as he bowed before the Jedi.

As Loken spoke about training Kaden merely bowed his head in agreement with the elder twin. When Loken spoke of the pup Kaden glanced down to his right leg, where Ya'lea had snuggled against his boot, attempting to hide from the Jedi Knight before them. Kaden's attention was shifted when another entered the room behind the duo, directly speaking to the Jedi in a tone that rang of familiarity. By the looks of him he could have been another Jedi? Or perhaps just another wandered like Kaden and Loken.

The Old Corellian lifted his head. A welcoming smile crossed upon his pockmarked face and that peppered beard. "Ah, welcome." He began, gesturing for [member="Loken Blake"] and [member="Kaden Blake"].

"Please come in," he added, a bit of joy coming at the sight of the pups. "Well, what do we have here." while Loken had said to pay them little mind, Rhen paid them plenty. He had an appreciation of creatures, and these pups were the first he'd seen in a while.

A familiar voice came from his right, ah [member="Rebel Sunka"]. "Ah, young Sunka," he came back to his feet. "It is good to see you." So now he had at least three students. The Jedi Academy wasn't tied to the New Jedi Order, it merely worked in conjunction. The New Jedi Order Temple was at another site. This, this was just House Elgarest, the Academy within the chain that specialized in crafting and forging.

"Rebel, I'd like to introduce you to Loken and Kaden." of course, he was also getting to know them as well. "And their pups."

Elmont Block

Elmont was always game for development. He’d received some training on Tython from his first Master – who was currently away on a mission with no guarantee of a return. So any offer to learn something new was always gratefully received. The class in question was not one he would have ordinarily considered – so perhaps his appearance was because he would rather have some training than none.

But the truth was that, as he reviewed the subject, there was more and more to like. He’d done a little homework on the Jal Shey and their work with permanently imbuing items – be they crystals, armour or even just clothing – and he was surprised to see that the effects could range from the physical to the mental.

So he presented himself to Rhen Qel-Droma and with a curt bow and fell in line with the others assembled and awaited instruction. He was dressed in his usual robes and looked as if he’d just jumped out of bed – his hair unkempt and his robes creased. And the five o’clock shadow was heading towards ten at least.

Kaden was silent as ever.

Loken took his brother's lack of speech in stride. It was rather normal for the deaf man not to speak verbally; doing so often proved to be a bit humorous, if not slightly embarrassing. Loken stepped forward in his stead, though his eyes never turned to meet the gaze of the Jedi Knight. They stared forward into nothingness, though Loken's engagement in the conversation at hand was rather obvious given his body language. Arms hanging from his sides, shoulders back, spine straight like a rod: the warrior's stance.

What was the term Jedi used for their elders? Su'thra? No, that was the Sun Guard, the Jedi title was in basic - ah, yes!

"Thank you for having us master," Loken spoke through a polite smile, the simple title drawing a bit of amusement from the young man. The swordmasters of the homeworld had often demanded grandiose titles prefaced by adjectives that smacked of self-assured superiority. The humble simplicity of the Jedi moniker almost made him laugh - how mother would have been amused at such plainness. "This is Kahliir," he gestured with a tilt of his head toward the Zakkeg pup at his feet.

Unlike Ya'lea, Kahliir had no fear. If anything, little beast seemed apathetic to those gathered within the chamber. His emerald eyes drooped, and the little ball of black flesh that served as his body barely moved. The larger of the two infants was above all this prattling, evidently.

Must be tired.

"Hello Rebel," Loken spoke, turning to face the stranger. This one didn't carry the look of the elder - he was a youth, probably another hopeful. Loken's eyes never moved, but he saw just as well any with Kaden's assistance. He watched for minuet body movements and other varied motions; they helped hint at who a person might truly be far better than words. "We're a bit...new, you might say, though we're interested in whatever there may be to learn here."

The Echani offered Rebel a simple bow of the head - one that was repeated as another man entered the chamber. Kahliir turned upon this one, his upper lip lifting in something that might have been a warning growl. Unfortunately for the pup, Kahliir barely rose up to Loken's ankle. He wasn't very scary.

Loken turned as the baby growled, his eyes sweeping over the general direction of the approaching man. His brow furrowed; his ethereal sight was muddled here for some reason. It was something worth looking into later.

"Anyway," he turned back to face Rhen, "Kaden and I are ready to begin whenever you are ready, teacher."

"You have to follow your own path."
Kaden's eyes fell on each of the individuals in the room as they spoke. Though the mostly-deaf sibling could hear them he decided it would be best if they simply thought he was fully deaf. Which was not necessarily a lie, it was merely just not the whole truth. As Kaden examined those in the room he saw movement out of the corner of his eyes.

Another new comer? Well wasn't this quite the popular area.

As the people around him spoke his eyes would watch their hands, knees, and even the way their neck would turn as they spoke. To an Echani they had a rather sloven or unkempt way of speaking. They seemed lazy and at times very disinterested in what they spoke about. But Kaden had to pull his thoughts from the basic warrior's mentality. These were not sons of Eshan and they did not use their bodies to speak in the same manner that his people did. Still, it was a rather odd display.

Though they had been off of Eshan for years it never failed that Kaden found himself curious on how other cultures could communicate with something so basic as sound alone. As his eyes fell to the man who seemed to be in charge, [member="Rhen Qel-Droma"] he could hear him introduce him to the newcomer, [member="Rebel Sunka"]. He turned to the man and bowed his head respectfully, though words were not broken he flashed them an a kind smile, hoping to show he had nothing but good intentions.

Kaden tapped [member="Loken Blake"] on the shoulder, and began to sign a few words to the brother, using him to speak for him rather than attempt to use his own tone-death voice. 'Ask them about the man we met on Dxun, could they know about him? Perhaps he was one of their order or a similar one? Also, give the Master and the one he calls 'Rebel' my greetings.'

HK was in the room as well, there on the Forge where Rhen was going to conduct his lesson on the crystallurgy. All the greeting Rhen would get from the droid would be a nod as he remained in the back of the group and the classroom, listening to let Rhen get through the material.

The droid was there to learn, as much as Rhen could teach him, for crystallurgy was never a subject he went much into, at least not until recently. That was also what brought the machine to the Jedi Crystal Laboratories on Caldera, HK expanded his field recently into crystal-based technology and had a new toy forged somewhere deep within Abregado's numerous workshops and smithies, he wanted for Rhen to have a look at it as he was one of the Crystal experts HK had knowledge of. Plus the droid had a rather easy access to him since they worked together before, and he trusted that Rhen would not steal the technology to use it for himself or maybe not even care much what the droid would do with it, he did not seem like the type to engage in much of an arms race.

Either way, HK was there, sitting in the back of the classroom, just waiting for Rhen to finish the lecture and see how things progress.

He nodded his head as a smirk formed across his face. His arms came down as his attention averted to the other students present, his eyebrow quirked up as he turned his head to look upon the other two that Rhen wanted him to meet. He lifted his head up in a way of greeting them before parting his lips to speak, "How's it going?" then he looked down to the ground, "and their pups huh?" He smirked and then looked back to the instructor.

Before he could speak, his heard the footsteps of other approaching and his head turned when he saw [member="Elmont Block"] enter the room. He'd seen him around before but...they've never spoken or anything. He bowed his head to him as a form of greeting, and then turned his attention back Rhen.

He squinted his eyes at the glowing cerulean crystals scattered in front of him, leaning in slightly and then standing back up fully he spoke out with an expressionless face, "So what's this all about? We gonna be cutting crystals or something?" he spoke out after taking a deep breath.

Kellyn had little interest in the exploration of the philosophy of the Force. He wanted to understand it, yes, but he cared not for the 'Light Side', just as he didn't care for the 'Dark Side'. What he did want to understand though was how he had obtained these mysterious powers and what they might do for him. He wasn't a Jedi, his master Julius Sedaire even said so. While Kellyn had no desire to join them, he saw no harm in sitting in on their teachings. They could offer a valuable insight he very well have wouldn't been privy to before.

The man was unfamiliar with the Jedi, Sullust, or with what they'd be doing. Wearing the armor he's so often found in, he removed his helmet before walking into the room as the instructor began teaching. He thought he'd be alone in the back, but as he slid in, he noticed the glowing eyes of HK-36, a droid unit he recognized from the inaugural ball on Eriadu. With a short nod of greeting, he set his helmet down on a stone pillar and leaned against the wall next to it, curiously watching the developments from afar.

Well, things were starting to get quite busy. Pleased by the turn out, the old Corellian Green Jedi gave a clap. There were other familiar faces, and he in turn replied with a nod and a, "Welcome! Welcome!"

He was a rather agreeable fellow, even if the scars on the right side of his face gave him a rather ominous edge. Certainly a story to tell were anyone to ask of it. There were red, pock marked areas, as if his skin had melted and healed in thick keloid bands. The areas along his jaw were hidden behind tuffs of his peppered beard, but for certain it must have been terribly painful then.

"With such a turn out, let us get comfortable." he gestured for everyone to please take a seat and introduce themselves if they haven't. In the meantime, he would speak over the low murmurs.

"I am Jedi Knight Rhen Qel-Droma." he began, his voice rather boisterous. He kept his hands at about belly level, flexing his weight back and forth.

"I am from the Corellian Jedi Academy, based off the Sasahlah Mountains." he elaborated. Few knew of the place and lesser still, were able to travel there.

"My area of focus within the Jedi Houses is that on Crystallurgy, and today, we will be discussing a particular crystal, the Upari."

A sudden clap and rub of his palms.

"So, to begin, what does everyone know on crystals? Please just toss in what you know. No order necessary."

Taeli slipped into the back of the classroom just as Rhen was beginning his lecture, making as little noise as possible to not distract the Jedi Knight. As a resident Master of the Educational Corps for the Jedi, she had wanted to be present for Rhen's lesson to just observe his teaching style and possibly contribute to the lesson if necessary. As it was, she was content to just sit back and let him and the students present to talk about the crystals in the area. Once they got to imbuement, she might get involved, considering her background with helping Phylis Alince perfect her alkahest process.

Elmont nodded as one of the other Apprentices acknowledged him and once more as the teacher began the class so enthusiastically.

He took a seat as requested and when it was his turn her introduced himself simply – as a Jedi Padawan named Elmont. He declined to name his former Master. He held no animosity to the Jedi – a mission was a mission after all. But to have his hopes raised after all this time to finally have a mentor, only for them to be dashed a short time later was something he hadn’t really gotten over, and did not want to discuss.

So he was relieved when the teacher started up again and he wondered who would venture what on the subject of crystals. He knew what he knew but he was too long in the tooth now to be competitive with that knowledge, so he threw in a fact and allowed others room to share information around what he shared.

“The Upari isn’t found widely. Typically in forest worlds and is known to be brittle. Oh, and cutting a large crystal into smaller crystals makes it more powerful. Apparently.”

He noted the arrival of another Master but did not turn his gaze and instead remained focused on the teacher in front of him.

First of all, the droid nodded back to [member="Kellyn Muir"], remembering the armored man as one of the closer spectators of the Eriadu ball when Graf got punched by one of their GA fighty-boys. Of course Graf proclaimed himself to be the Emperor of Galaxy, which would usually be a bad person to punch, but the machine considered him to be more joke than man, so he did not refrain from the chance to try and pull him into a fight and mock him further.

His attention then turned back to Rhen and the lesson, he asked about crystals and Elmont raised his hand, providing some information about the Upari crystals, of course HK could raise his hand even faster than Elmont and provide even more detailed description of the Upari crystals and their attributes, since the whole connection to the Holonet at will and all, but he let the organics have their moment for once not stealing the spotlight for the most part.

Most part because HK still raised his hand, speaking out,

"Some crystal structures are capable of housing complex bio-electrical structures, for example true bodies of sentient creatures known as Shards, crystalline beings who are known to develop symbiotic relationships with droids by fusing with their bodies in order to interact with physical plane, or a parasitic relationship by fully taking control of the droid's body and ruining their perfectly nice day."

His lips grew thin as he looked arouned the group to see if any of them would answer Rhen' question, because quite frankly Rebel didn't know poodoo about crystals other than they were used to power lightsabers...and he was sure that wasn't the answer he was looking for. He quirked his eyebrow as he noticed [member="Elmont Block"] about to speak, and what the guy said was...hell smarter than anything Rebel could come up with. He nodded along,

"Heh this guy knows his stuff..." He thought to himself just before speaking out, "Yeah...what he said." he said motioning with his head.

He watched as the attention averted to something behind them, when he turned around he saw the droid from before. "Hey, it's Mr. droid from last time..."

He turned back around, "Crystals can really do all that old man Rhen?"

As the older Jedi knight began his demonstration, other pupils began spouting out what they already know of the subject matter. One of the more vocal participants was that of the droid HK-36. Kellyn smiled briefly as he dropped his head in amusement. Why was he not surprised that the droid held the most technical knowledge despite being a pupil in the scenario? Nonetheless, he was sure the Jedi had a few tricks up his sleeve that they would not suspect learning. Kellyn took a couple steps forward and took a seat, looking onward curiously.

"Yes! Correct, well done... " thick bushy brows rose towards [member="Elmont Block"]. Rhen hadn't met him properly. At least that he could recall, a small gesture would come from the Corellian Jedi as if to prompt a quick toss of his name when he was able.

Turning towards [member="HK-36"] then [member="Rebel Sunka"], "Yes, that is correct young Sunka. The Baron is right in regards to such crystals." Rhen began a small amble around the pedestal that held the crystals.

"There are Shards as well as Tsils. They have been so touched by the Force that they are sapient crystals. Able to communicate with us through such means as Telepathy. Each with distinct personalities. Truth be told we are not aware of just how many of these types are out there, but the Force is limitless. I have spent a lifetime studying and wandering the Galaxy to document as many as I can, but even I am aware that a mere lifetime wouldn't be enough."

A clap came as if to continue.

"Now, what about Force Imbuement. Does anyone know what it is." again he gestured for anyone to speak up in any order.

Elmont was not looking for praise from the Master. He had restated a fact he believed was common knowledge and in his opinion, regurgitation was not precisely a significant test of his brainpower. If Elmont hadn’t said something, someone else would have. The Padawan did not see this as some flexing of intellectual testosterone. Rather he was simply showing that the class was, on the whole, paying attention.

He listened to the teacher as he continued before he reached the point where the next question came back to the group.

Elmont paused, not worried about being the first to speak again but he believed in giving others a chance to speak. Finally, he offered, “I believe the Jal Shey were proponents. I don’t know a lot about them but I have heard of items they created being highly sought after. They added effects to weapons and armour and the like. And the items could be used by non-Force users too. But as to how they did this,” he shrugged. “I have no idea.”
